A giant, hulking mass charged across a field, an army of soldiers pursuing it. That was me, Fergus, the large being. I was now a Cybertronian. A Transformer. And I had one goal. Run. That’s all I could think about now as I was chased across Equestria. I had only been awake for a week now, and already was deemed too dangerous to be kept alive. But this isn’t where the story starts. That would be back on Earth, in a musty back alley in Downtown Los Angeles. I had just bought some new Transformer toys for my collection. It had been a hobby of mine for years now, and I had thousands of them in my possession. I don’t really know if I could say what made me want to collect them. Maybe it was the characters themselves? The unique transformations? It was hard to pin it down. I shook my head and smiled to myself as I walked along the alley.
“Can’t believe they had the new movie characters in stock.” I chuckled to myself, my Irish accent still thick as I looked at the bag I was carrying. Inside was a brand new figurine from the new movie Bumblebee, a Decepticon named Blitzwing. I sighed as I kept walking, blissfully unaware of the group of gang members in front of me until it was too late.
“Eyyy esse, what’s in the bag eh?” One of them asked as they stood in front of me.
“Nunyer damned business.” I frowned as more of them circled around me.
“Now that’s not cool man. You just disrespected me. Now you gotta pay up.” The young wannabe gangster sneered as he pulled out a handgun, aiming it at my head.
“Now hand over the bag.”
I was sweating now, but tried to remain calm.
“Yer not gonna shoot me. You don’t have the stones fer it.” I said calmly as the gang members looked nervously at their leader.
“Oh yea?” He sneered again as he lowered the barrel to my chest and pulled the trigger. I looked down, seeing a smoking hole in my chest as I stumbled backward.
“Wha…” I wheezed, looking up at the gun weirder before falling backward, my shirt now soaked in blood as the gang members ran off, deserting their boss. He just looked at me, a slightly panicked look on his face before he too ran off. I looked up at the dark night sky, wishing this wasn’t the end.
‘Please… if there is a God, let them hear me…” I thought to myself as I felt my life fade away.
“Your wish has been granted.” A gruff voice answered. I opened my eyes to see a hooded man standing above me. He knelt down beside my body and frowned.
“Usually I’d have you buy something before doing this, but these be… extenuating circumstances.” He chuckled as he picked up my figurine. The box glowed blue for a moment before he set it down on my chest.
“Have a nice trip.” He winked as I faded back into darkness.
‘What was that? Was I dreaming?’ I thought as I was then suspended in the inky black void between life and death.
Falling. I could tell I was falling by the sound of rushing wind in my ears. I tried to open my eyes, only to find my vision blurry and out of focus. I could see greens and blues, as well as the odd purple streak, but I couldn’t tell what was what. I blinked a few times, my vision partially getting clearer each time. I rubbed my eyes, which felt strange to do, and finally saw that I was hurtling towards a planet from a high altitude.
“What the fuck?” I shouted, my voice sounding deeper and… robotic? I didn’t care about that, I was too focused on the ground coming up to meet me. I put my hands up in front of my face, odd mechanical hands, as I impacted the ground. Tumbling and rolling I crashed to a halt against some rocks by a river in the middle of a forest. I looked around in confusion as I wondered how the hell I’d managed to survive that impact. Or why I was nearly forty feet tall. Or made of… metal? My attention was soon drawn to a warning now flashing in my vision. It was in a language I’d seen plenty of in my comic books, but was still learning to read. It was Cybertronian. I tried to make out the words, but only certain letters popped out.
‘_ar_i_g, cri_ica_ ___or_ fai__r_’
I didn’t have enough time to understand what it meant as I watched the world go dark. Later I would understand it was warning me about a critical memory failure.
4000 YEARS LATER
Making her way through the undergrowth, Daring Do forged a path as she continued her search. She had been looking for the Guardian of the Everfree for several years now, but this forest always seemed to turn her around. This was her fourth expedition, and she was confident it would be the one to find it.
“Come on now, this should be easy compared to my other adventures. It’s just a statue.” She told herself as she paused to catch her breath. Looking around, she rubbed the back of her head. This part of the Everfree was more akin to a jungle than an actual forest, the trees covered in vines, with large fauna and flora packed tightly in the underbrush. With a slash of her machete she cleared a way forward. There had been rumors that the statue was not from our planet, as previous expeditions that managed to find it claimed it to be made of some form of metal, rather than stone.
Daring Do’s POV
“Like that’s true..” I sighed as I cut through more plant life. Ahead of me, I could hear the rush of water, telling me I was getting close to the River Faust. I pushed forward, the sound renewing my energy as I emerged on the bank of a wide, if shallow, river. Pulling out a map, I tried to triangulate my location and eventually figured it out. I was more or less south of where this ‘Guardian’ was supposed to be, so after putting away the map and having a short rest I pushed on up the bank.
“I just hope it hasn’t been vandalized or destroyed..” I thought to myself as I trudged forward. That was always a possibility with ancient structures and statues. Being left unattended to the elements for centuries or millennia could utterly decimate prime archeological sites. I thought about the dig I worked on in Prance last year, an ancient castle that had become nothing more than a few weathered stones on the surface. The dungeons had been mostly intact, but it still hurt my heart to think about what that site might have looked like in its heyday. I was still deep in thought as I rounded a bend in the river, stopping dead in my tracks as I saw it. Sat in what looked like a stone throne sat an immense effigy of a person, nearly forty or fifty feet tall. As I stepped closer, I noticed the many intricate layers of material, the patterns seemingly flowing into each other. What struck me as odd was that it resembled nothing else in recorded history, and was covered in unfamiliar markings.
“Well what do we have here?” I whistled as I found an opening in the statue’s chest. Inside sat a glowing green gem, giving off an unnatural light.
“This seems important. Better take it for safekeeping and study..” I said calmly, reaching inside and grabbing the crystal. As soon as my hand touched its rough surface however, something began to change about the statue. It emitted an odd warbled growl as a pulse of energy shot from the gem throughout its body. I quickly got my hand out and ran for cover as the statue came to life.
Fergus’ POV
SYSTEM REBOOT COMPLETE, INITIALIZING…
Light filled my eyes as I slowly regained consciousness, my brain being overloaded as I recalled my crash landing.
“Graaaaaaaaah!” I roared as I jolted to my feet, taking a few unsteady steps before falling to my knees. As I sat there I finally saw my reflection. The face that stared back wasn’t human. It was Blitzwing’s face. My face. I watched the rippled reflection as I ran a metallic claw down the side of my face, my glowing green optics tracking my movement as I slowly rose to a standing position.
“How interesting… it seems I have been turned into… him.” I frowned slightly as I finally heard my own voice, gravelly and synthesized. I looked around, finally taking in my surroundings. I noticed the massive stone… throne? That I had been sitting on for the last… I wasn’t sure how long I had been in what I could only describe as stasis. My new internal processors began crunching the numbers as I continued scanning, identifying many new lifeforms as I zeroed in on one particular signature.
“Identify yourself.” I called out, watching as the candy brown equine poked her head out from behind a toppled column.
“Um.. Hi? I’m.. Daring Do. You… you’re alive. How?” She said, her voice quivering slightly as she stepped out from her hiding spot.
I knelt down and brought my face level with hers, making the poor equine take a step back.
“It is nice to meet you, Daring Do.” I said calmly, attempting to smile as I introduced myself. “I am Blitzwing.”
