Rather than plow into planning for NaNoWriMo and fail, I’ve been taking October and doing an experiment where I plot out the whole month of writing ex post facto.  It’s a bit enlightening to see how many times I change topics to keep the writing fresh, so dive in and see how I meander for a month.
