"Why did you keep your promise?" asked Solar Night.

"It was the right thing to do," replied Rarity.

"Solar Night, you're back!" squealed Lilly Pad, rushing over.

"The promise was broken," Solar Night said in a distant, emotionless tone.

"I'm sorry, Cave Dust," Rarity sobbed.

"Hold out your hoof," Cave Dust commanded with a sinister smile, reaching toward Rarity, intent on transforming her into a bat pony.

"Stop!" shouted Solar Night, startling the other bat ponies. They gasped, watching him step forward.

"I challenge Cave Dust for the title of Elder," he declared boldly.

Lilly Pad looked alarmed. "That's… a battle to the death," she said, her voice trembling.

Cave Dust smirked, crafting a fake horn, clearly ready to engage.

"Solar Night, you don’t have to do this!" cried Rarity.

Lilly Pad shook her head. "You can't back down once you've challenged an Elder."

Solar Night and Cave Dust took their places, facing each other. They both bowed, a show of respect before the impending duel.

"The Elder attacks first," announced Lilly Pad, acting as referee.

Cave Dust struck quickly, aiming to stab Solar Night, but he dodged. In a flash, Solar Night teleported behind her and landed a swift, decisive strike, his blade piercing through her.

"I'm… so proud of you, my son," Cave Dust whispered weakly.

(Quick note: When a bat pony mother gives birth, she doesn’t raise her child. Another bat pony steps in as caregiver, and the young bat pony only knows their siblings due to a curse of the cave.)

"Mommy!" cried Lilly Pad, running to Cave Dust's side.

Cave Dust managed a small smile at Lilly Pad, then turned her gaze to Rarity.

"Love them both," she murmured to Rarity, her voice soft as her eyes began to close.

"What… what are you doing to Mommy?" Lilly Pad screamed, panicking.

"CPR," Solar Night replied, frantically trying to revive her. "I don’t know if this will work, but I have to try," he thought, his heart racing.

"She was stabbed through…she’s not coming back," Rarity whispered, her voice full of sorrow as she gently rested a hoof on Solar Night's shoulder.

Solar night blushed at Rarities' touch.

Let us burry her said Swift dig the second elder. Yes said solar night but not in the cave in the forest he said firmly.
Swift dig did not argue Yes solar night dust said Swift dig. Rarity. saw him flinch at his mother name being added to his title.

Gather lily pads," commanded Solar Night Dust.

"Will you join us in the gathering?" Swift Dig asked quietly.

"No, I would like to look through my mother's things," Solar Night Dust replied.

"The new Elder is supposed to help with the burial," said Berry Glow.

Solar Night Dust revealed his bat-like eyes, causing Swift Dig, Berry Glow, and Lilly Pad to run off to gather leaves.

"Brother," Lilly Pad said as she returned, "I went through Mom's things."
You were supposed to be gathering lily pads," Solar Night Dust replied, frowning at her. Lilly Pad saw her brother and hid behind Rarity.

He used his magic to take the scroll. "Please, prepare the lily pads. You're an expert with them," he said with a smile. Lilly Pad saw her brother’s smile and realized he was still the same.

"By you too," she muttered, rolling her eyes as she left to get the lily pads.

Solar Night Dust opened the scroll.

"I wrote this in case your time with the unicorn turned into something else… like love. And if you loved her, you'd want her to stay her same unicorn self. I wasn’t sure if you would challenge me. If you love her, take this ring wrapped in this scroll and ask her. But if you’re reading this now… I love you both so much. You’ve never known me as your mother, but you will always be in my heart."

Just then, Rarity entered quietly, noticing his somber expression as he held the letter. “She must have loved you deeply,” she said gently, placing a comforting hoof on his shoulder.

He looked up at her, his eyes softening. “Thank you for being here, Rarity. I don’t know if I would have had the strength to do this alone.”

"Rarity, come with me into the forest. I need to ask you some questions," said Solar Night Dust.

"Okay," said Rarity, hiding her blush.

"What questions did you want to ask?" she asked as they walked.

Solar Night Dust took a small step closer, feeling his cheeks warm. "What do you love about me?"

Rarity looked down, gathering her thoughts, then met his eyes, her gaze steady and sincere. "What do I love about you?" she repeated softly. "Well… for one, your courage. You've been willing to face the most difficult challenges, even when you had every reason to walk away."

Solar Night Dust listened intently, his expression softening as she continued.

"And you’re kind," she said, a gentle smile forming on her lips. "You take care of those around you, especially your sister."

The air was heavy with anticipation as Solar Night Dust met Rarity's gaze, his eyes shimmering with hope and vulnerability. He took a small step closer, his voice quiet. "What do I love about you? It's your unwavering kindness, your ability to see beyond the surface, to recognize the light even in the darkest places."

Solar Night Dust opened the scroll and carefully took out the ring.

"Will you—" he began, only to be cut off by the sound of huffing from Twilight.

"Oh, thank Celestia we found you," said Spike.

"Maybe we should give them a minute," said Twilight, noticing what Solar Night Dust was about to do.

"Okay," said Spike, pretending to be fine with it.

Solar Night Dust held the ring in his magic. "Um… will you marry me?" he asked. "I know it's not a big rock, but I believe it’s been in my family…" he trailed off, embarrassed.

"Oh, darling, I don’t care about the carats of the ring," said Rarity. "I love you."

Solar Night Dust smiled, adding a string to the ring so she could wear it. "May I… bite you?" he asked.

"I trust you," said Rarity as she tilted her head slightly, ready to embrace her new life with him.
