A New Dawn For The Dusk

ACT ONE A New Day

About 6 months later…

Sonata stretched as the sun shown through her window, she sat up. After six months she was still happy that she now had her own room and her own bed she didn’t have to share if she didn’t want to, although she hadn’t up to this point. With one exception. And not competing to find the best place to sleep in the van. It was the first time ever that they’d had a home of their own.

And now she had a job she enjoyed. Not like the past, making money and lodging by allowing herself to be used. It was disgusting that from almost the beginning, some men thought that because they paid for your ‘favors’, they were entitled to do whatever they wanted to you.

The first man that made the mistake and thought it was appropriate to abuse her was met with Sonata catching his hand mid-action and asking him not to do that. That was followed by him laughing and slapping her hard with the back of his other hand. He quit laughing when she returned the slap hard enough to fracture and dislocate his jaw.
She knew that this was not Equus where she couldn’t slip back into the sea and leave no trace. So she couldn’t have easily gotten away with slapping him hard enough to snap his neck.

But now, it’d been about four hundred years since she’d had a bright, clean and pretty room of her own.

Adagio thought the choice of wallpaper was a little juvenile with the fluffy kitties and puppies. But it made Sonata happy so she didn’t care. Plus her nieces, Aria’s children, had helped her pick it out. The girls were attaching themselves to Sonata not only as a playmate, but almost like a 2nd mother.

Sonata loved them more than tacos.

The house that she and Adagio were sharing was next door to Aria and Mike’s home. Their sister and brother-in-law had insisted that they buy them the vacant house next to theirs. Aria thought it best to have them close as they made the adjustment.

It’d been easy for Aria. She had her motivation in the form of a smart and humble man. Now she was hoping that she could help her sisters to find some happiness as well.

It wasn’t like Adagio, Sonata and even Aria were without money. They had actually a respectable sum in the Bank of Equestria. Believe it or not, it was Sonata’s idea. And over a thousand year period they had accumulated a tidy sum.

There were two problems.

First, it was required all three sisters to withdraw any of the money. That way one couldn’t empty the sum on a whim and the reason Aria had lived above a brothel and worked at a diner. She had left the sisters so that she couldn’t gain any funds that way. But neither could Adagio or Sonata.

And second, because they had lived ‘on the run’, it was easy to deposit but hard to withdraw.

But the interest had built up over the years.

The house had taken several weeks to get set up the way Adagio and Sonata wanted. Most of the décor reflected musical and nautical themes as per Adagio’s wishes. But some were quite whimsical reflecting Sonata’s tastes. They’d even taken down the fence that divided the back yards so the families could interact more easily.

“Sonata!” came the voice from downstairs, “get your arse down here or you can make your own breakfast!”

“Coming!” shouted Sonata.

Sonata stretched and the covers fell from her as she sat up. As she stood up, she looked at her nude self in the full length mirror. She’d never said anything to Aria or Adagio but she liked this curvy body so much better than her siren body. What Sonata didn’t know was that Aria and Adagio thought the same about themselves.

Adagio heard footsteps coming down the stair.

“Good morning Dodgy,” said Sonata, embracing Adagio from behind. One hand ‘just happened’ to be on her breast, and she was kissing Adagio on the neck in her favorite spot. Adagio didn’t mind.

“Smells so good…” Giggled Sonata, “so does the food.”

“Thank you,” said Adagio smiling, it was something Adagio was doing so much more than in the past. Adagio really liked the feeling. She turned in the embrace to face her sister, then with shock, “NAT! You know the girls1 are coming over, how do you know that they’re not already here? Get your arse upstairs and get dressed!”

“But you said to come down stairs right away.”

“You can take some time to put your bloody clothes on!”

“You didn’t mind last night in my room!”
Adagio blushed brightly. Sonata giggled and groped Adagio’s arse. Then she let go and went to the stair. Sonata had done this because Adagio was so insistent for her to come down to breakfast.

Plus it was a tease.

Sonata went back up the stair, Adagio was smiling as her hands rubbed her own breast and arse where her sister just had a feel, as she watched Sonata’s arse and her ‘goodies’ all on display as she walked away. They’d never told anyone, but in the past, from time to time, they’d had ‘slept’ with each other. Yes they were sisters, but not sisters by blood. And they all needed relief in times of stress when they were on the run. Plus it did reinforce the bond between them.

But now there were nights that the two would watch a movie, get distracted, start making out and the next morning they were in the same bed.

Sonata came down stairs in her work uniform. Of course she was working at the local Enchilada Gong. Adagio was afraid that Sonata would get fired for eating all the profits. But Sonata was smarter than she acted. She had a great way with the customers and made sure that the product was up to her standards of tastiness.

Plus everyone loved her.

“Don’t forget that I’ll have the girls over today because of the funeral.” Said Adagio, “I know they may’ve wanted to have you watch them, but I told them that you had to work. Plus they like my voice lessons.”

“I know Dodgy,” said Sonata, “give the little angels kisses for me.”

Adagio just nodded as she sat at the table and set the plates in front of her and Sonata.
Sonata took Adagio’s hand leaned over and gave her a quick girly kiss.

“Thank you for cooking, Dodgy, I love how you take care of me now.”

“Well,” said Adagio snickering, “I have to cook, or I’ll have to eat taco’s morning, noon and night!”

Sonata and Adagio laughed together. They both were still amazed how happy and closer they and Aria had become, it felt so good.

After eating, Sonata washed, dried and put the dishes away. Adagio then walked her sister to the door and surprised Sonata with a long and loving kiss. Yes, it would be disturbing to many that ‘sisters’ were kissing, tongue and all. But they were sisters in the pod and out of necessity, but not by blood. So it could be forgiven.

“I’m sorry that I took you and Aria for granted for so long.”

“It’s okay, Dodgy. We three have made up and put the past in the past.” Sonata kissed Adagio an equal kiss. “But the loving we now share is nice. And if you ever find a guy, it’d be okay if you gave him all your attention.”

“I don’t think so Nat,” said Adagio smiling.

Adagio and Sonata had become that much closer, to an extent, after Aria left them about fifteen years ago. Even as assertive and pushy as Adagio had been and how cold Aria had been to Sonata, they only had become closer to their sister.

Adagio and Aria may have been cold and domineering in the past, but Faust help anyone else who might belittle or try to take advantage of Sonata, other than themselves.

‘That’s our job!’ they’d joke.

The two laughed as they opened the door in time to see their nieces about to enter. The girls looked at their aunts and hugged and kissed them both.

“I’ll see you later, girls” said Sonata.

“Goodbye auntie Nat,” said little Adagio.

“Bring us back some tacos please!” said little Sonata.

“I don’t know if your mother likes Nat doing that,” said Adagio.

But Sonata winked.

“You know I will,” said Sonata, “and if your mother says anything, she won’t get any, neither will auntie Dodgy!”

They all laughed as Sonata walked away to catch the bus to work.

As Sonata walked by Aria’s house, her sister was standing on the porch.

“Have a good day at work, Nat.”

“Thanks Aria, give my love to Mike.”

Sonata continued around the corner and to the bus stop on the other end of the block, just as the bus was arriving. She showed her bus pass and took a seat. In their past, the only time they paid attention to their surroundings was to figure the best exit route out of town. But it’d been a couple hundred years since they had to flee crowds with torches and pitchforks. But then there was the police and deputy sheriffs to avoid. But she now enjoyed watching people and the parks.

The bus stopped in front of the Enchilada Gong and Sonata exited the conveyance. Sonata took out her key, opened the door and went in to start prepping for the day.

“Sonata!” said the boss, “I’m happy to know you’ll always be here on time. I count on you so much.”

“Thank you sir,” said Sonata as she started her pre-opening duties.

“I have a bit of news for you.”

“What’s that sir?”

“I’m sorry,” said the boss, “but with how hard you work and as much pride you put into your job, not to mention never complaining on whatever duties I give you, I’m sorry to say I can’t pay you as much as I have been.”

Sonata felt let down a bit, but her smile never wavered.

“That’s okay, sir,” said Sonata.

“Yes, but it was something I felt led to do. So as of now, you have a three bit an hour raise.” The boss chuckled to see her face brighten even more.

“Thank you, sir,” said Sonata.

“Well it’s only fair that the new Assistant Manager gets a pay that matches.”

Assistant Manager?”

The boss shook his head. Sonata forgot herself and rushed and hugged the man. Almost too tight.

“Wow! What a grip you have!”

“Sorry sir,” said Sonata blushing.

“This is contingent on one thing,” said the man.

Sonata was almost afraid that this was a setup for some physical favor.

“What’s that sir?”

“That you call me Bill, you’re management now after all.” He handed her a new name badge.

ENCHILADA GONG
Sonata Dusk
Assistant Manager

She hugged him again, albeit not as tight.

“Okay Sonata, we need to get the restaurant ready to open.”

“No problem… Bill”

Sonata was known for her smile, but today, all her co-workers were almost blinded by the extra large smile she wore. She didn’t brag about the promotion, but all the others noticed the new name badge, and would congratulate her.
