Holidays are ever evolving. The celebrations change little year-to-year, but what when history stacks a hundred little changes? A thousand? What was Nightmare Night before there was a Nightmare Moon to appease? Before there was an Equestria for her to attempt to rule?
This is a story of the old holiday. Of a pegasus who had resigned himself to never achieving his dreams of glory. Of a call for a hero, answered.
