The Misadventures of the Young Six: The Accidental Brownie Bake

The sun had barely risen over the tranquil town of Ponyville, and the crisp morning air felt fresh, welcoming a new day full of possibilities. It was a Saturday, and for the Young Six, that meant one thing: no schoolwork, no schedules, just a day of fun and relaxation. They had all agreed to meet up at Yona’s place for a baking session, an activity they had grown fond of in the past few weeks. The idea was simple enough: spend the day making brownies, enjoy a little break from their usual routines, and hang out as friends.

Yona, the yak, had never been particularly good at cooking, but she had a zest for learning. She had spent the past few days excitedly collecting ingredients and reading up on recipes, eager to impress her friends. Sandbar, the earth pony, was the practical one among them, always trying to keep things on track. Gallus, the griffon, loved to eat but wasn’t particularly interested in the finer details of cooking. Silverstream, the hippogriff, had a wild imagination and an even wilder appetite, so she was all in for anything sweet and sugary. Oculus, the quiet changeling, was more reserved but enjoyed the social aspect of the group, and always found a way to add her own little twist to the events.

The plan was simple: bake brownies, hang out, and enjoy the day. But like all good plans, things don’t always go as expected, especially when a crucial ingredient gets mixed up.

The sun’s rays streamed through the window of Yona’s cottage as the six friends gathered around the kitchen counter, ready to start. A large wooden bowl sat on the counter with flour, sugar, and cocoa powder. Yona was eager to begin, pulling out her apron and excitedly clapping her hooves together.

“I ready to bake!” Yona exclaimed, her voice full of energy.

Silverstream fluttered her wings and hovered above the counter, her eyes wide with excitement. “Brownies! I can’t wait! Are we putting anything fun inside them? Maybe marshmallows? Or chocolate chips? Or—” She was cut off by Gallus.

“We’re making brownies, Silverstream, not some weird hybrid candy dish. Stick to the recipe,” Gallus said, rolling his eyes playfully.

“Gallus is right. Stick to the basics first,” Sandbar chimed in. “Once we get the hang of it, we can make it more interesting.”

Oculus nodded in agreement, her eyes scanning the ingredients. She was a meticulous thinker and liked everything to be in order. She carefully read through the recipe Yona had brought with her. “All looks good so far,” Oculus said softly, her voice calm. “We have everything we need.”

Yona nodded enthusiastically and trotted over to the cupboard to gather the last of the ingredients. As she opened the door, her eyes landed on a small, green jar tucked in the corner, labeled with a simple, handwritten note: *‘Herb for Seasoning – Use Sparingly!’*

Yona, never one to question things, assumed it was some kind of special herb meant to be added to the recipe. She had no idea what it was, but she remembered seeing something similar when she and her friends went to the local market earlier that week. The vendor had been selling all sorts of rare spices and herbs, some of which were unfamiliar to Yona but looked fancy enough. She shrugged and pulled the jar from the shelf, placing it on the counter next to the rest of the ingredients.

“I found spice!” Yona announced proudly. “It make brownies taste yummy, I think.”

Sandbar looked at the jar with some skepticism. “Uh, Yona, are you sure that's a spice? It doesn’t look like the ones we’ve used before.”

Yona gave him a confident smile. “It looks like spice to me! Just use tiny bit, like recipe says.”

Gallus raised an eyebrow but didn’t press further. “Whatever, if it makes the brownies better, I’m in. Just don’t go overboard with it, okay?”

Oculus leaned in for a closer look at the jar. “It’s… green, Yona. Are you sure it’s edible?” She raised an eyebrow, trying to be more cautious.

Yona shrugged, clearly not concerned. “Yona see it in store. Looks like good spice for food. It’s okay.”

With that, Yona opened the jar and took a large pinch of the contents, tossing it into the bowl with the other ingredients. She stirred it in, thoroughly mixing it with the flour and cocoa powder, unaware that the substance she had added was not a typical spice at all.

As they continued baking, the kitchen filled with the sweet aroma of melting chocolate and baking goods. They added eggs, vanilla extract, and butter to the mixture, carefully following the recipe. The friends had a great time laughing, chatting, and getting flour all over the place. The joy of making something together was enough to distract them from the fact that something wasn’t quite right.

After a while, the batter was ready. Yona poured it into a baking pan and set it in the oven, the warmth of the kitchen beginning to feel more inviting as the brownies baked.

“I can’t wait to try them,” Silverstream said, her mouth watering. “They’re going to be delicious!”

Gallus, who had already eaten half of Yona’s leftover chocolate chips, shrugged. “They better be, or I’m going to be disappointed.”

As the brownies baked, they all settled down around the table, chatting and telling stories. The laughter echoed through the room as the minutes ticked by. Finally, the timer on the oven dinged, signaling that the brownies were done. Yona eagerly opened the oven, carefully pulling out the hot pan of brownies. The sweet scent was overwhelming, and it made their mouths water.

She set the pan down on the counter, letting it cool for a moment before cutting them into squares.

“Brownies ready!” Yona cheered.

One by one, they each took a square. At first, everything seemed normal. They bit into the brownies, and the taste was rich, chocolaty, and just the right amount of sweetness.

But after a few bites, things started to feel… different.

Oculus blinked, her face suddenly becoming flushed. She reached up and adjusted her glasses, trying to clear her mind. “Wait… something doesn’t feel right,” she said slowly, her voice sounding distant.

Silverstream’s wings twitched. “Yeah, I don’t know… everything feels a little… floaty?” Her eyes widened in confusion as she glanced around the room. “Did we… did we add something that makes you feel… like you’re floating? Because I feel like I’m floating!”

Gallus looked at his brownie, then back at his friends, his eyes narrowing. “Okay, I’m not the only one feeling weird, right? Like, my stomach’s doing flips, and my head feels fuzzy.”

Sandbar, who had taken the smallest bite, suddenly stood up and staggered back. “Wait, something’s wrong. Yona, what did you put in these brownies?”

Yona, who had been eagerly munching on her second piece, stopped mid-bite and looked at her friends with wide eyes. “What’s wrong? Brownies taste good, yes?”

“Yona,” Sandbar said slowly, pointing to the jar she had pulled the “spice” from. “What’s in that jar?”

Yona blinked, her expression growing confused. “Uh… herb for food, like I said! I not know what else it do, but it smell nice.”

Gallus rubbed his temples. “Herb? That’s not an herb. That’s something else entirely.”

Suddenly, it hit Oculus like a ton of bricks. “Oh my gosh, Yona, you didn’t… that’s not a seasoning, that’s… that’s marijuana!”

Yona froze, her eyes wide with shock. “What… what is that?”

“Cannabis,” Oculus clarified, her voice trembling slightly. “It’s a plant that can make you feel… well, the way we’re all feeling right now. It's not something you cook with. It's… it’s a drug.”

The room went quiet for a long moment, as the weight of the revelation sank in.

“I… I just thought it was some weird spice,” Yona said, looking absolutely horrified at the realization. “I… I didn’t know! I just want us to have fun baking!”

“It’s okay, Yona,” Sandbar said, trying to reassure her. “This is… a big mistake, but we’re not in trouble. We just need to wait for it to wear off.”

Gallus shook his head, his usual sharp wit dulled by the effects of the brownies. “Next time, Yona, we stick to the recipe, alright?”

Silverstream giggled, despite herself. “I’m just gonna… lie down for a bit, I think. Maybe… float some more.” Her voice trailed off as she flopped onto the floor, her wings flapping aimlessly.

“I’m so sorry, everypony,” Yona said, her voice filled with regret. “I never meant for this to happen. I thought it was just a spice! Please forgive me.”

Oculus, who was still trying to maintain some level of control, simply nodded. “It’s okay, Yona. We’ll all be fine. Just… maybe no more ‘herbs’ for the next bake, okay?”

The group settled down, and while they waited for the effects to wear off, they couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. It was a mistake—one they wouldn’t soon forget. But in the

end, it wasn’t the worst thing to happen on a Saturday.

As the hours passed and the effects slowly wore off, they all agreed on one thing: they were definitely going to be a lot more careful next time they decided to bake.

The Young Six may have accidentally baked a batch of narcotic brownies, but in the end, they had learned something valuable—sometimes, you just have to laugh at the little misadventures life throws your way. And always, always double-check your ingredients.
