Continuing the plot of The Herd of the Ring, the story intercuts three storylines. Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle continue their journey towards Canterlot to destroy the One Ring, meeting and joined by Spike, the ring's former owner. Applejack, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash come to the war-torn nation of Tohan and are reunited with the resurrected Twilight Sparkle, before fighting at the Battle of Horse Deep. Scootaloo and Pinkie Pie escape capture, meet Minty the Tree, and help to plan an attack on Hayengard.
