After a war between the Storm King's Army, Equestria and the Democratic Republic of Humanity, the dictator is captured, and his forces are no more. The Equestrians and the Humans stand victorious, though not without a heavy cost, especially to the Humans. Refusing to ever be taken by surprise again or at a disadvantage to magic, the HDR engages in a series of operations to maintain survival of the nation and the ruling party.

The nation of the two Princesses, propose harmony and friendship between the two nations, with the stipulation of reduction of armed forces. The HDR, upon suspecting an Equestrian attempt to maintain a supremacy of the planet Equus, rejects any standing force reduction treaties. Despite pleas, the HDR forms a militarized, hardened border on Equestria's doorsteps with the land taken from the Storm King. Five years have passed since the formation of the border.

A Royal Solar Scout, Vigilant Shield, is assigned to a small outpost near the border to guard the Equestrian side and observe the human border. While on post, he hears a strange transmission on his magic radio, unsure what to make of it. Little does he know, he is the first to observe a new method espionage and subterfuge never before seen on Equus. This is a story in the cold war between Pony and Humankind.
