Chapters My wings were short and stubby.They were pointless objects obligated to my body. I was a small filly a kind and modest one at that. Me and Fluttershy were great friends we'd hang around cloudsdale thinking of what thing's would be like if they were different, for example if I had better wing's wings that would make me loop the loop and make ponies woop.
Fluttershy was a shy timid filly at this current time, thing's havn't changed much apart from her courage has developed ever so slightly. With thing's the way they were nothing seemed possible. My mother and father had massive elegent wings they fly about having fun at lighting speed yet I stayed sitting watching them go past. One day I questioned my father "Dad why can't I be like you?" he laughed at me and put his hoof in my mane "Rainbow you know you're only young, one day you will sore to the sky and see the sun up close, you will be like me one day you'll see, you must be patient" I looked at him with a tilted expression I didn't believe what he said, I wasn't able to fly, yet all the other fillies that were my age could, I just didn't understand how I wasn't like them.
I was bullied for not being able to fly they'd say "Rainbow Rainbow in the sky, don't you wish you could fly" I'd ignore it but it soon became hard to bear. I hated being singled out. I always liked being involved when it came to flying it was impossible, I had lessons at cloudsdale JR but teachers didn't see any point in trying over and over again I would just fall back on my hooves. When i returned home I would sit and stare up into the sky above me wondering what I would do with my life if I didn't learn to fly.
My mother saw me on one of these occasions, she knew how I felt so she sat beside me and wrapped me in her wing's "Rainbow my dear, I see your eyes are looking blue what's the matter?" I snuggled up beside her and wailed in her wings "I can't fly mum I can't do it" she nugged my nose and kissed my head and sighed. She knew how I felt and she told me a story a story that happened to her. "Rainbow, you know, when I was your age I couldn't fly." I looked up at her with a confused look dwelling in my eyes "Really? But your wings?" she smiled simply at me and carried on her past experience "Wing's grow with age darling, I couldn't fly I was terrible the reason I fly now is because of a dream I had since I was young, even though I didn't get the chance to complete my wish I continued my training and became who I am today"
I still didn't have a dream; but I carried on training and little by little I began to progress. One day my father showed me tickets three tickets to see the wonderbolts this was my mothers dream to be one of them I didn't pass up on that opertuinity so I went along. The crowds were massive nearly 2000 gathered at the cloudsdale stadium. I watched in anticipation for the wonderbolts to whizz round. I recognized them all they were fleetfoot,soarin and spitfires fathers. This was an amazing discovery. All three were the best flyers in cloudsdale they were about a year older than me but they were amazing i'd watch them all the time they were so carefree. After watching the wonderbolts and realising their young were at cloudsdale JR I realised by the time I could fly they would be the new wonderbolts.....And there was my dream. I ran to my mother and father and said "I want to join the wonderbolts!" My parents smiled and put their hooves in my mane and said "Go get 'em Rainbow!"
I was so proud I finaly discovered my dream. The dream I share with my parents....And that's when my Wings began.
Hunting down my dream
With everyday my dream became more apparent I would watch the wonderboltz constantly and talk to spitfire,fleetfoot and soarin about their training, everything was looking up.
I went into cloudsdale JR everypony was staring at me their eyes follwed me I felt closed in like i was trapped inside a box, One pony came up to me and glared before making his "speach" "What in the name of celestia do you think your playing at Rainbow?" Of course I was puzzled; from the corner of my eye I saw fluttershy go off, poor thing she hates crowds and arguments it frightens her someponys don't have any consideration for others, I looked back up at the pony questioning my every move and most possibly my training, I have seen him before his name was Cruiser he was a massive bully everypony who wasn't good enough was his victim (which ment practicly everyone) I replied in a stern voice "Cruiser back off it's none of your buisness what I'm doing" He grumbled and moved his hoof across his neck as if he was cutting it with a harsh reply he yelled "you're a dead pegausi I tell you that now" I felt butterflies in my stomach but he didnt scare me, I've grown out of intimidation nothing could stop me, i barged passed him ignoring his gesture to find fluttershy.
"fluttershy...where are you? Flutt..." I stopped to hear a weaping noise from the left of me I turned around to see fluttershy crying "Oh Rainbow you got into a fight didn't you, why didn't you just leave your so silly, you had me so worried" I looked at her with kind eyes and put my hooves in hers and replied "I'm not a push over anymore I need to stand up for my self I'm sorry" Fluttershy looked up at me and gave me a soft smile the crying stopped that's when she told me something i wouldn't ever forget. "Rainbow,Cruiser will want to challenge you, everyone knows you have some sort of secret your not telling they plan to get it out from you" I had a quick reaction with out hesitation "They can try" Fluttershy began to worry you could hear it in her soft delicate voice "Rainbow...be carefull" I looked at her and pulled her close to me and whispered in her ear "I will be carefull...for you fluttershy."
The next day I had the day off I worked my self sick. A knock came out side I slowly got up my wings and legs were in so much pain from all the training i've been doing, When i opened the door my eyes lit up to my surprise it was Spitfire "Hey Rainbow, mind if i come in and talk to you" I put my hoof out to gesture for her entrance and walked into the sitting room "What do you want to talk about?" she just looked at me and said "Flying,how's your training?" I sat there dazed I couldn't believe spitfire was in my house "well it's fine i'm getting better mre practice will help."
When the door finaly shut I let out a massive fangirl scream. This was great I have potential...I don't think life could be any better.
A few day's ago Cruiser signelled me a warning, i took that in condsideration and keept my eye on him, (now whos watching your every move) I also was weary of fluttershy's comment about being carefull.
Another day went past in Cloudsdale Jr and Cruiser once again gave me a speach, but this speach was something that would hold a treasure that gave me my own identity. "Oi Rainbow, you think your little threat back there was tough well how 'bout you prove me your strength" Thoughts whizzed through my head I don't want to worry Fluttershy more than I already did, but I'm being careful I stood in silence for a few seconds and replied simply "Hmmm nah i'll pass" Cruiser's eyes widened and he shifter closer to me, he got up right into my face and said "No...No pony says No to cruiser!" I then once again questioned the offer he was so kindly advertising me, what would I achieve? my cutie mark maybe for beating a bully...nah but what could i lose...nothing so with that in mind I turned to him and gave him my final answer "Fine, this time next week;prove to me you're a worthy challenge" Cruiser gave me the attitude "hmph" with a quick remark "Sure will be my pleasure to beat a scamp like you" He smirked and stormed off knocking me slightly.
From that moment I started my training for my challenge that awaited me. Not only is this a chance to practice my flying skills it will prove im worthy for being a wonderbolt member. Whilst in flight completeing the Course spitfire flew past me she yelled "Hey Rainbow sick moved" YES i'm impressing her I replied swiftly so it wasn't obviouse that was excatly what i wanted to hear "Cheers,been working hard on it" She giggled and winked at me "keep it up then" and went on her way, Over time my wings began to improve. Just in time, the Rainbow VS Cruiser challenge was approaching fast, I had almost perfected my routine I just hope i don't mess up i would be a laughing stock for the rest of my life. After my intense training I went home to rest up before the resting i had to show my parents my moves they were really impressed they were delighted to see their little Rainbow finaly taking on the skies. My father messed my mane up and said in an exciting maner "Good job sport, your well on your way to being a wonderbolt" I couldn't help but smile,I've got the support of so many, especialy my mother, she never got the chance to be a wonderbolt because of me, although it's hardly either one of us' fault thing's like that happened, now i'm living my mothers dream, and I will impress her by winning this battle of the pegausi and become a wonderbolt member.
A week went by and it was time to put together a show for the ponys. fluttershy was sitting on a cloud right up front to watch my moves she was delighted how far i've come and she didn't want to miss it strange considering she hates fights and she isn't too good at flying either. Cruiser stepped into the arena looking quick and sharp he stared at me, I looked back at him we nodded as a sign of respect to who ever wins (although i hate him it's just a nice thing to do) but i plan to not lose. Soarin started the count down and explained the rules, "Are you ready? Are you steady? GO GO GO" and it began Cruiser soared to the sky and did 3 corkscrews into a tail loop he plumeted back down and went around the whole stadium at lightening speed going higher and higher making a tornado form, it was a brilliant act, mine was simple but i had tips from professional so i was bond to be good. The judge's showed there marks 18/20 that's close I need 19 to beat him...i said under my breath "here we go, wings don't fail me" I did 2 loop the loops into a corkscrew I went into the sky and spun round 3 times all of a sudden my wings stopped and i started falling, i changed it into a tick, i put my hoves straight and a ball of air surrounded my front, my eyes watered from the force that was pulling me down, i went super sonic speed and fluttershy fell off of cloudsdale somewhere into the unknown.
As the fource pulled me down the energy that was created went to the back and then it happened a ball of light, rainbow colours spilled from the back into an awesome explosion i spun around again and did one loop the loop up wards and entered the stadium in the middle of the rainbow explosion I created, I called it the sonic Rainboom.
I couldn't believe over this amount of time from crying and complaing about my stupid non working wigs to be flying the loop the loops and doing sonic rainbooms I couldn't of done it with out mother and father and of course my wonderboltz insperation.
I looked down at my side and found a mark I looked closely at it, It was my cutie mark I earned My cutie mark, it was awesome a cloud with a rainbow lightening bolt...and from that day on I was known as Rainbow Dash and that was how I earned my stripes....on my cutie mark that is.
