Chapter 1: A Night of Self Discovery

Chapter 1: A Night of Self Discovery
Within the city of Canterlot, Princess Twilight Sparkle, and her trust assistant Spike, were making their way through the castle as the sun slowly began to set.
The alicorn sighed, as she had had a busy day of princess work. Despite usually having nothing to do as a princess, Twilight was finding herself rather busy as of late. And the reason was because her mentor, Celestia, had gotten herself knocked up.
The pregnancy had come as quite a shock to Equestria, even more so than the announcement of Luna's pregnancy. And like her sister, Celestia had chosen to keep the identity of the father a secret. This had caused a great amount of rumours since then. Many people suspected some foreign dignitary, whilst others wondered if a Royal Guard had gotten her up the duff. Some ponies had even suggested that Discord was the one responsible, which Twilight didn't even want to imagine the results of the union if that was true.
Another theory, which Celestia had refused to say no to, was that the alicorn had simply become pregnant through her own divine will. That she had simply conceived with no father needed. And whilst Twilight doubted that was actually true, she was curious if it was possible.
Alas, Celestia's current condition meant that she found herself needing a lot of help with her royal duties.
The alicorn was currently three months pregnant, which means she was currently suffering from morning sickness, fatigue and headaches. And since Twilight didn't want her to force herself to work in that condition, she had been taking over a lot of the duties Celestia usually oversaw. And Twilight had no idea Celestia did so much for Equestria.
She had been to three different political meetings, attended the grand opening of four establishments in the city and had to check in at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns to make sure everything was running smoothly. And that had all been before one o'clock.
She was exhausted and couldn't wait to get a good night's sleep.
Speaking of night and sleep. Luna had also found herself suffering from issues of her pregnancy. The now six month pregnant mare, had been forced into bed rest to make sure nothing bad happened to her child. Apparently, she had needed to reduce her stress and take pressure off her cervix for the baby's health. So now, Equestria was down to one Princess.
"I hope Tirek or anypony else doesn't decide to cause problems." She sighed, amazed that Celestia could do so much every day. Twilight was barely able to handle doing it for a few days. Let alone the thousand years she had done everything. "I know she needs her rest, but I hope Celestia feels better soon."
Spike, who was double checking to make sure they didn't miss anything, hummed. "I read that pregnancy book you were curious about and according to that, most of the symptoms she's suffering from don't go away until week sixteen at the earliest."
Twilight sighed, since that meant she had another month of this at best. "It's fine. It's for the good of Equestria's future. Celestia's child will one day rule over the entire kingdom. I can handle a month of this."
"Unless Celestia also gets put on bed rest," Twilight gulped as she realised he had a point. "Also, she'll probably need some time after the birth to rest. Heck, she might make you rule Equestria in her stead until the kid's out of diapers."
Twilight felt herself sweating, as the got closer and closer to her room. And as she did, someone stepped from around a corner. Her personal guard. "Flash," she smiled at the pegasus. The guard turned back to her and smiled, since there wasn't anypony else around.
In the three months since Flash had become her personal guard, he and Twilight had gotten very close. Despite him needing to treat her like a princess whenever they were in public, in private they had become very close friends.
"Hey. Busy day?" He noticed the bags under her eyes, as she nodded. "Well why don't we get you to bed before you collapse."
"Thanks, Flash. Did anything happen whilst I was away?" As Twilight's personal guard, Flash was usually meant to stay by her side. But since she had an abundance of guards at her beck and call whilst in Canterlot, Twilight had asked Flash to keep close watch over her private quarters. "Nothing much," Flash replied. "Maids went in to do some cleaning and I made sure they didn't touch any of your research notes. Bird flew in through an open window and right back out again. And I think one of the light-bulbs might need changing. Other than that, nothing happened."
Twilight nodded, as they approached Twilight's room.

Celestia's pregnancy announcement had been a big thing, so the birth of the second child of Cadance and Shining Armor had been a little overshadowed. But that hadn't made it any less special to the family.
Twilight remembered meeting her nephew for the first time and smiling when she saw him with wings and a horn, which had sure been a surprise to everyone. Many ponies had wondered if male alicorns were a possibility. But now Blitz Shine had proven it was. And unlike his big sister, Blitz's magic hadn't gone out of control. This was likely thanks to a spell done to quell his magic used right from the start, keeping him from blowing a hole in the castle.
Twilight wished she could have spent more time in the Crystal Empire. But she had been busy with other stuff for a while and couldn't spare any more time. As such, her brother had been sending her pictures of the baby every now and then. Watching that still image was heartwarming every time one appeared.
Flash smiled at the picture, handing it back to Twilight as the pair finally arrived at her bedroom. "Well, good night. We'll make sure you get a good night's sleep."
Twilight smiled, but gave him a serious look. "Flash, you've been awake even longer than me. You need to get some sleep as well."
"I'll be fine," Flash assured her. "We guards are trained to go days without needing sleep."
"Maybe so. But I want you to get some sleep. Don't make me order you to do it." The pair stared at each other, the pair trying to look serious but quickly breaking out into smiles.
"As you wish," Flash gave her a mock bow that made her giggle before heading into her room. As soon as she was through the door, Twilight felt her heart beginning to beat heavily.
The mare couldn't help but feel that way any time she and Flash were together. She had always believed he was a handsome stallion, even since running into him for the first time in the Crystal Empire. And after he had almost died protecting her in that parade, her feelings for him had only grown stronger. With him being with her every day, the pair had grown close. Closer than Twilight had ever felt with anypony else.
The mare sighed, trying to get her mind off of Flash. But it wasn't an easy task. Especially after she had once walked in on him after her got out of the shower.
She remembered it like it was yesterday. In his first week at the castle, Twilight had been heading to the bathroom in the morning. Her own private bathroom had been playing up, so she had simply teleported into the other one on her room's floor. But Flash had been in there, having just stepped out and wrapped himself up.
Twilight had appeared there and Flash had almost attacked, but pulled himself back just in time when he saw who it was.

Twilight and Flash were walking through the town and had arrived at Sugarcube Corner, where they found Pinkie manning the counter. The mare smiled when she saw them both step inside. "Twilight! Flash! You're just in time to try my latest creation."

"I'll probably try that next time," Pinkie told him. "Oh, what if..." That was how Twilight found herself listening to them, both discussing different ways to make Pinkie's cupcakes more edible. The pair laughed at one another's jokes, Flash not acting much like a guard around her.

"Thanks Rarity. Can I try it on in here."
"Of course. I need to make sure everything fits properly." "You know, Flash. You really should look into your own formal attire. As Twilight's personal guard, you'll have to accompany her to every ball and gala she'll be going to."

"Of course. You can't go to a ball in armor. Come. Let me get you measured, in case I ever need to make you a suit." She heard Flash getting pulled over to a measuring stool, Rarity humming as she took his measurement. "Have you ever been to any formal event?"
"I've been to a few. Back when I was in the junior guards, we had a dinning in night every year. A fancy dinner, toasts and a bit of an after party."

"It was nothing big. The most important parts were the promotions that were given out that night. I remember the year I got promoted to the next rank up. Pretty great. Though I almost tripped over I was so excited." The pair kept discussing things, Rarity giggling whenever Flash said something she found amusing.
When Twilight finished changing into her dress, she stepped out and saw Rarity measuring Flash's inner leg.
