But the fire is, mmm, delightful
As the sun rises, snow begins to fall on the peaceful town of Ponyville. Foals exitedly rush out of their homes to frolic and play with each other, as their parents watch on. And within a tree library at the center of town, Soft piano music echoed from a gramophone, as two figures sat by the fireplace, snuggled up close to each other under a blanket. The past month has been a nightmare after the Canterlot wedding, but it has all been worth it. For after the new year begins, Spike and Thorax’s wedding would finally occur.
As their fingers intertwine under the blanket, a third figure comes into the room, tray of Hot cocoa in hand. Twilight Sparkle, prized pupil of Princess Celestia, looked at her little brother and future brother in law, and began to smile. Despite all the hardships, their love never faltered. Setting the tray on the table, she grabbed three cocoa’s, before walking over to them.
”Hey guys, Cocoa’s ready!”
Upon hearing this, the two snap around, eyes widened in anticipation for their chocolatey beverages. Twilight chuckles at their behavior as she hands them their mugs, before sitting down in a recliner nearby, softly blowing on her own drink before taking a sip.
As Spike took a sip from his cocoa, he smiled, looking to his beloved Thorax. After the wedding, Thorax went through a lot. Mainly due to his transformation. After years of hiding, his secret was finally out. Thorax was terrified. He hyperventilated, believing that all the friends he made in Ponyville would turn on him. But thankfully, he had support. Twilight and her friends, Gilda, Spike, heck, even Zecora and the Princesses supported him. And in the end, all his worry was for naught, for Ponyville accepted him for who he truly was. As spike remembered that day, he smiled. Ponyville was truly becoming a more welcoming place.
Spike’s reminiscing came to an end as a knock sounded at the door. Spike quickly gave Thorax a kiss on the cheek before getting up to go see who it was. As he opened the door, he was greeted by the sight of his parents, carrying a tray of fresh cookies.
”Hey Spike, Happy Hearth’s Warming!”
”It’s so good to see you dear!”
Spike smiled, letting his parents in before hugging them.
”Mom, dad! It’s so good to see you! Come on, Twilight just made some cocoa, and the others should be here soon. Set the cookies down in the kitchen, and come get cozy by the fire.”
As his parents headed towards the kitchen, stopping for huge on the way there, Spike started shutting the door before it suddenly stopped. Looking down, he saw a boot blocking the door.
As Spike realized who it was, he rolled his eyes, before opening the door again. As the door swung open, Shining Armor quickly jumped out of the way, a dumb grin plastered on his face, while his wife, Cadence stood back and watched, rolling her eyes.
”Careful their killer, coulda hit me with that thing!”
Spike smirked right back, before pulling his brother into a hug.
”That was the aim. Good seeing you Shining! Come on in! You too Cadence!”
Cadence and Shining armor quickly entered, before heading to the den to meet up with the others.
After a few more minutes, the others began to arrive, slowly but surely. First was Fluttershy, bringing a veggie platter. Rarity was next, and of course, she brought a load of scarves. If they were gifts or they were her extra’s, Spike didn’t know. After her was Pinkie, who brought a small container of cookies, much to his surprise. But as she opened them, a whole table sprang out, filled to the brim with cookies, cakes and other treats. Spike rolled his eyes. Pinkie would be Pinkie. Gilda followed shortly after, bringing some spiced ciders with her. And finally, Rainbow and Applejack arrived together, bag of games in tow and talking up a storm. If Spike didn’t know better, he’d say they were both lightly blushing. Disregarding that, he welcomed them, before shutting the door, and locking it.
As he came into the den, it was alive with voices. Rainbow, Applejack and Gilda were all talking about the running of the leaves last month, as Cadence looked on, a malicious look upon her face. Shining, realizing she was in her “shipping mode”, quickly got her attention, before the both of them walked over to His parents. Rarity was handing everypony the scarves, which she hand knitted. When she got to Twilight, she handed over a scarf with pattern of books, which she eagerly took. And finally, Fluttershy and Thorax were sitting at the table, chatting. Spike smiled, before sitting down in a chair.
As the sun began to lower in the sky, everypony was seated in the den. It was game time. First up was white elephant, which no pony won. Twilight got a flight jacket, while Pinkie got assorted dog toys. And somehow, Gilda ended up with an entire album of different versions of the pony polky. Laughter filled the air as each one was opened, until it ended, and everyone traded their gifts. Next up was the Christmas globe. Everypony was given a pair of die, and a pair of oven mits, before Applejack was picked as the first unwrapper. She tried her best to unwrap, even getting a few pieces of candy, before Rarity rolled a pair of two’s. Rarity had just gotten her oven mits on when Twilight managed to get a pair. The game kept going on like that, until Pinkie got the ball, and unwrapped it in 5 seconds.
As the moon rose higher into the sky, ponies began to grow tired. But before they could leave, it was finally time for presents. As they handed each other their presents, Spike sat next to Thorax, snuggling tight up against him again, before handing him a gift. Thorax blushed, smiling before handing Spike a gift. As all the gifts were finally handed out, ponies began to open them. Twilight of course got plenty of books, and Pinkie got brand new baking supplies. Rarity got a large amount of supplies, while Fluttershy received animal food. And everyone received something apple related from Applejack. And finally, Spike and Thorax opened their gifts, gasping in surprise. Spike had gotten Thorax a heart necklace, half emerald and half amethyst, intertwining t. Symbolize their love. And Thorax had given him a heart pendant, with a photo of them when they were kids. As they both teared up, they embraced eachother, before kissing.
As the last few of their friends left, and Twilight went to sleep, Spike and Thorax sat in front of the fire as it slowly died. Spike held the pendant in his hand, opening it to the picture again, before closing it and holding it close to his heart.
”I love you more than there are stars in the sky, Thorax.”
Thorax, blushed, looking down at his necklace, as the green and purple swirled together.
”And I love you more than there are fish in the sea Spike.” Spike gingerly pressed his lips to Thorax’s, who eagerly returned before they snuggled up closer together. Slowly, they drifted off to sleep, as the fire burnt out, and a heart-shaped wisp of smoke emanated from the ash.
