“And you said YES?!

Pins rained down onto the floor, dropped from Rarity's mouth. She stared at the zebra in the rushed, half-finished gown as if she'd just taken a bite out of her own leg.

“Indeed,” Zecora replied with a smile, “an impulse, if you will,
but one I'm satisfied with still.”

“But... but it's Blueblood!” Rarity insisted, lighting her horn to pick up the pins once more. “The most boorish, egotistical, intolerable...”

“And yet, I think, there may be more
beneath that crude persona's floor,” Zecora interrupted calmly.

Far beneath,” Rarity huffed, walking back over to Zecora and adjusting the fabric on her – her friend having possibly taken leave of her senses was no reason to forget her professionalism, after all.

Still, she thought about it for a moment and continued. “And... well, I accept the... hypothetical possibility that he has some hidden depths... very hidden depths... deep to the point of being quite unimaginable but anyway,” she shook her head sharply, “surely that might, at most, be cause to befriend him, get to know him better, learn exactly what and how deep these... supposed depths are. Why in the world would you agree to jump straight to romance? Are you sure that's entirely healthy?” She hadn't been told exactly what the two had talked about, but she got the impression that there must have been quite a connection made during that meeting, and she was quite concerned for her friend.

Still, the readiness and ease with which Zecora nodded did somewhat assuage that concern.

“I think it is, though I will say,
my reasons are a touch cliché.
I saw something, in my first glance
which made my heart and spirit dance.
A thing most firm and so acute...
contained within that skintight suit
in which I saw him walk and strut.” She gave Rarity a smile that was at once confident, impish and apologetic.
“He has the most delightful butt.”

Author's Note

Hey, if a seemingly shallow character can have hidden depths, why can't a seemingly deep character have hidden shallows?
