Nopony ever dies in Ponyville. I mean of course they die eventually but Button Mash just never saw it happen. Of course the young colt knows that some ponies leave their families to die but its not like he knew anypony who did.
Button Mash lived in a small town where nothing ever happened with his mother. His father, grandparents and great-grandparents all lived in different towns and cities but he knew they were still alive even if cities tend to have higher crime rates.
The only death he's ever even heard of was the "Sweet Apple Acres incident" but that was rarely talked about, it was some what of a real life myth around town and Buttonmash was warned by his mother to never mention it in case a member of the Apple family was around to hear.
In his whole 12 years of excisting death was an extremely tiny of his life. Death wasn't taught in Miss Cheerilee's class, Miss Twilight never gave lectures about it and his mother said death only happens to the very old so the scene in front of the young colt made no sense.
"Umm, sir... are you alright?" Buttonmash asked politely as he could. It was rare for Button to interact with adults so he wanted to do it with manners.
The stallion that Button was trying to converse with didn't answer back he simply sat under the oak tree with a blank look in his eyes.
"Sir? I'm sure you know this already but my mom says it's not a good idea to sleep out in the sun like this" He was met with only silence.
Button Mash just couldn't figure this out. When he entered the park about ten minutes ago this stallion was up awake and seemingly enjoying a solo picnic all by himself but now he's laying against the trunk of the tree not moving a muscle.
Button got closer to the stallion and wondered how he could stay so still for so long, the colt couldn't go ten seconds without moving his body without getting stiff so he was very impressed with the stallion infront of him.
Button Mash thought perhaps this was a performance like how some ponies will paint themselves grey and pretend to be a statue, he got right up to the stallion and looked in his eyes to see if he was blinking.
Youthful curious mahogany eyes met with a pair of blue bloodshot eyes with small red spots all around his eyes. As he got a closer look Button had to carefully step over stallion's picnic featuring a bottle of Sweet Apple arches Apple juice, a box of chocolates and a half eaten sandwich.
The stallion under the tree was clearly still eating because he had crumbs all around him and even had some bread in his agaped mouth so buttom couldn't figure out why he won't just chew, swallow and continue eating the lovly looking lunch.
Button Mash took note of how the stallion's lips looked dry and strangly blue as if before his sandwich he had enjoyed some blue candy that make his lips so cracked and dried. Seeing the stranger's dried lips only made the young colt realise his own thirst.
"Sir, is it okay if I have some of your drink?"
No response.
"It's just it's really warm out today and I kinda wasted my pocket money on a arcade machine"
No response.
"... If you don't want me to have some then just say so."
He knew he was being cheeky by messing with the stallion but he really was very thirsty and this pony was clearly more focused on staying still then his food.
Button Mash sat on the picnic blanket in front of the resting stallion and grabbed the bottle of Apple juice, with a tiny bit of effort he twisted off the cap and started to drink. After he had drank just over a third of the bottle he screwed the plastic cap back on and tried to place it in the stallion's hands.
"Here sir, I can tell you're in need of your drink"
Button tried his best to shove the glass bottle into the stallion's white knuckled cleched fist but he couldn't pry his fingers open.
He thought for a minute on what he should do, clearly this guy was thirsty but he won't just take the bottle and drink. Button stood up, open the bottle and got closer to the stallion before very carefully pouring the Sweet Apple juice around the stallion's mouth.
"My mom says that you should drink as much as you can on a hot day like this"
The drink pooled in the stallion's open mouth, mixing with the half eaten bread and the spit that was stuck in his throat. The rest of the drink dripped down on the stallion's clothes and the picnic blanket.
When Button Mash was done with what he thought was a good deed he screwed the cap back on the bottle and set it on the ground.
The more Button stood next to the stallion the more he felt this unnerving panicking feeling, a feeling of dread like what he was looking at just didn't make sense. In his head he compared it to one of his videogames, one where you walk into a wide boss room but it's completely empty.
He started to feel sick in his stomach, he felt his legs grown stiff and tired and he couldn't escape this sudden feeling of sickness and worry.
"Umm I.. I think I should be getting back home"
No response.
"I hope you h-have a nice r-rest of your day"
No response.
Button started to back up and away but as his foot fell onto the discarded half eaten sandwich the young colt slipped backwards sending his legs into the stallion's chest and the rest of his body to the ground.
The panicked worry feeling was getting worse, he felt tears whelming up in his eyes and stomach bile in his throat, he rubbed his head as he sat up.
"I'm so sorry, sir. Did I kic-"
Button cut himself off, he stared at the sight infront of him with wide horrified eyes.
The stallion was no longer sitting up laying against the trunk of the tree, he was now laying on the ground. He body laid on a way that he's was laying on one of his clenched fists and his head was resting on the dirt.
His mouth leaked juice and half eaten food as near by bugs started to crawl towards his open mouth and most horrifying of all his blue bloodshot eyes no longer looked upwards to the sky but we're seemingly staring right at the young colt.
"AHHHHHH!" He let out a scream as he backed away and started to run.

That night Button Mash laid in bed unable to sleep, unable to play his games and unable to eat.
When his mother asked why he didn't want dinner he just said that he felt to sick to eat. He didn't want to talk about what happened, he didn't even know what happened.
Even if he told somepony he wasn't sure that they would believe him.

I hope you all enjoyed my first fanfic, I was inspired by stories of kids who find dead animals and just don't know what to do.
