Royal Sentai Knightranger meets MLP
Ch 5 A Nightmareish Event pt 1
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe swirling amethyst of the dream realm pulsed around Spike, who was giggling as he chased a small, emerald green lizard through fields of cotton candy. This lizard, who introduced himself as “Konno,” was unlike any creature Spike had ever encountered. Konno was friendly, always offering words of encouragement and making even mundane activities feel like thrilling adventures. He was like a perfect, imaginary friend.
Unbeknownst to Spike, Konno was anything but. In the waking world, Konno Sora, a nightmare demon, was weaving his insidious magic around the dragon. He was one of Lord Seth’s most dangerous creations, a dream weaver who fed on the hopes and fears of his victims. He was a master at manipulating the intangible threads of the subconscious.
Back in the waking world, a worried tension hung heavy in the air. Twilight Sparkle, her horn glowing faintly with concern, paced before the slumbering form of Spike. "He's been asleep for too long," she murmured, her voice tight. "It's not natural, even for a dragon."
Gold Knight, the leader of the Knightrangers, stood beside her, his golden armor gleaming softly in the dim light. A frown creased his normally kind face. “It’s Seth’s doing; I can feel it. He always targets the vulnerable.” He clenched his fist, his fingers brushing the hilt of his katana. Seth, his brother in blood but an enemy in spirit, was a constant, looming threat.
"We need to go in," Twilight stated, her eyes filled with resolve. “We did it before to save Ponyville from nightmare moon, we can do it now to help Spike, I can use a similar spell but we'll need to be careful"
Gold Knight nodded, his gaze hardening. "Then let us gather the Kings.” a short while later the rest of the Ignias team showed up. Scythe, the silent giant of the Terra King stared at Spike, his hand gripping the handle of his massive scythe. Red, the Aqua King, fiddled with the tech built into his battle-axe, his brow furrowed in concentration. Masher, the Thunder King, cracked a joke about sleepwalking, though his usual jovial demeanor was noticeably muted. And Tara Fin, the Glacies King, his shark-like eyes scanning Spike with predatory concern, gripped his hammer tightly.
With Twilight's arcane guidance, they stepped into the swirling vortex that would carry them into Spike’s dream.
The moment they entered, the vibrant world of cotton candy and giggling shifted. The sky had turned a sickly grey, the once lush fields now barren and cracked. The air was heavy with a sense of despondency.
"This isn't good," Red muttered, his tech analysis flashing across his eye piece. "Konno has already taken root. Look at the despair in the atmosphere."
They saw Spike, huddled beneath a wilted candy floss tree, tears streaming down his face. Konno, no longer a friendly lizard but a smaller, more sinister version, was whispering to him. The once cheerful dragon was now trembling with fear and defeat.
"Spike!" Gold Knight called out to him, rushing forward. "It's us, we're here to help!"
Spike turned, his eyes wide and filled with a deep, disturbing sorrow. "It's no use," he whispered. "Konno says...he says all my dreams are worthless."
Konno hissed, his form shimmering, shifting with malevolent energy. He grew in size, his small sharp teeth elongating into fangs, his once harmless emerald skin turning a sickly shade of dark green. He was no longer the conscious but a creature of nightmares, a lizard demon with large, cold eyes.
“You can’t save him, he’s mine now!” Konno bellowed, his voice echoing with a terrifying distortion. He raised his giant mallet, its head twisted and barbed, and slammed it down onto a nearby dream structure, a towering castle made of books representing Spike’s dream of becoming a great scholar, shattering it instantly into a pile of broken pages and dust.
Tara Fin roared, charging forward and swinging his hammer, but Konno simply sidestepped it, his movements unnervingly quick. Scythe followed him, his scythe leaving trails of jagged energy in the air but Konno was too quick for all of them. Masher swung his mace against the ground, sending a shockwave that rippled through the dreamscape, but Konno remained unfazed. He simply laughed, the sound a grating, discordant melody.
Red, his ax humming at his side, attempted to use his tech to disrupt the dreamscape. However, Konno seemed to absorb the energy, growing larger and even more grotesque with every attempt.
Gold Knight, with his katana drawn, leapt into the fray, his blade dancing with golden light. The fight was a chaotic ballet of power and agility. But the heroes seemed to be fighting a losing battle. The more they attacked, the more corrupted and twisted the dreamworld became. With each destroyed dream, Konno grew stronger, feeding on Spike’s despair. He was not only fighting them, but he was also fighting against the very essence of Spike's inner world.
Konno, however, was playing with them. He wasn't only feeding off Spike's sorrow he was using it, he used Spike's largest dream to send the team out of the dream. He had a giant crystal tower, as it represented spike's biggest dream of being a hero. Konno smirked, his teeth glinted in the dim light before he slammed his mallet down onto the tower.
A massive surge of distorted energy erupted from the dream, engulfing the Ignias Kings and their allies. It pushed them back, scattering them like leaves in a storm. The world around them dissolved into a disorienting vortex, forcing them out of Spike's dream.
They were back in the real world, gasping for breath. The faces of the Ignias team were grim, their bodies littered with minor injuries from the struggle within Spike's mind.
"He’s too strong," Red said through strained breath, collapsing into a nearby chair, the tech on his axe short circuiting. "He's feeding off Spike’s despair."
“I could feel it. The dream was completely corrupted,” Masher added, his usual smile replaced with a grimace.
Gold Knight looked at Spike, still sleeping peacefully, seemingly unaware of the nightmare that was consuming his mind. “We have to find a way to fight back,” he declared, his golden eyes burning with determination. “We can’t let Seth take him - we can’t let Seth destroy the dreams of anyone.”
Twilight, shaking off the dizzying effects of the forced ejection, held up her magic staff. "We’ll have to learn more about Konno, about how to overcome his powers, and how to protect Spike. For now, we need a plan, a way to fight this darkness before it’s too late." She knew, with a sinking feeling in her stomach, that this was far from over. The fight for Spike, and for the hope that resided within dreams, had only just begun.
