As if on cue, the distant sound of wingbeats and chariot wheels cut through the smoke-filled air. Twilight turned to see a midnight-blue chariot descending gracefully through the sky, pulled by two armored thestrals. Princess Luna stood tall within it, her expression unreadable as her sharp gaze took in the devastation below.
The moment the chariot touched down, Luna stepped forward, her ethereal mane flowing behind her like a living night sky. She wasted no time.
"Twilight Sparkle," she greeted, her voice carrying both authority and concern. "Report."
Twilight took a steadying breath before speaking. "Princess Luna, this ship crash-landed here just before dawn. It wasn’t an accident—whoever was piloting it was trying to land. My friends and I entered the wreckage and found a single occupant. His name is Ethan Harlow, and he’s currently being treated in the ship’s medical bay. The ship’s AI, VEGA, has been assisting us."
Luna’s gaze flickered toward the looming wreckage, unreadable thoughts passing behind her eyes. "A foreign vessel, an unknown pilot, and an AI-controlled system… This is troubling. You said he is stable?"
Twilight nodded. "Yes, but unconscious. VEGA estimates several hours before he regains consciousness."
Luna glanced back at Noctis and the gathered Night Guard before nodding. "Very well. I shall see this for myself. Lead the way, Twilight Sparkle."
Chapter 3: Broken Ship, New Alliances.
Twilight led the way back toward the ship, her mind already racing with what Luna might ask once they reached the medbay. The wreckage loomed ahead, its twisted metal exterior still smoldering in places from the rough landing. The Night Guard remained stationed around the perimeter, their sharp eyes tracking Luna and Twilight’s every movement.
As they approached the hull breach that served as their entrance, VEGA’s voice crackled to life over the ship’s internal speakers.
"Welcome back. Primary medical treatment is still in progress. Status: stable. Estimated recovery time: five hours, forty-seven minutes."
Luna raised an eyebrow as she stepped inside. "This… VEGA. It is a fully autonomous intelligence?"
Twilight nodded as they walked through the dimly lit corridors. "Yes, and so far, it’s been cooperative. It’s actively treating Ethan and maintaining the ship’s remaining systems."
Luna’s eyes swept over the interior, her expression unreadable. "A machine capable of rational thought… fascinating, yet unsettling. We have much to learn from this vessel."
As they reached the medbay, the door slid open automatically, revealing Ethan still resting on the diagnostic table. Various medical instruments whirred softly around him, continuing their work. Fluttershy remained nearby, watching over him, while Applejack and Rainbow Dash stood guard.
Luna stepped forward, her gaze falling upon Ethan. "This is the one who piloted the ship?"
Twilight nodded. "Yes. His name is Ethan Harlow. We don’t know much about him yet, but physically, he resembles the humans from the mirror portal—though there are noticeable differences in proportions and structure. He was the only occupant we found aboard."
"Intriguing." VEGA’s voice broke the momentary silence. "Princess Luna, I presume. Your arrival suggests an authoritative position within this region. I request clarification regarding your role and jurisdiction over this planetary territory."
Luna blinked at the direct inquiry, her gaze shifting toward the speakers embedded within the walls. "You are correct. I am Princess Luna, co-ruler of Equestria and guardian of the night. This land, and all within it, falls under my domain alongside my sister, Princess Celestia."
"Understood. Your governance structure will require further analysis. However, as the primary user remains incapacitated, my current operational protocols defer to self-preservation and data protection. What are your intentions regarding this vessel and its occupant?"
Luna regarded the speakers for a moment before answering. "For now, we will wait for Ethan Harlow to recover before making any further decisions. Until he is well enough to speak for himself, this vessel will be placed under guard to prevent any outside interference."
She turned to Twilight. "You and your friends have already ventured inside, but I will not risk other curious ponies wandering where they should not. This wreckage is unlike anything we have encountered before, and I will not allow rash decisions to endanger lives."
"Acceptable parameters," VEGA replied after a brief pause. "I will continue monitoring Ethan Harlow’s condition and maintaining internal security. Non-authorized access to this vessel will be restricted.
Luna gave a firm nod. "Then we are in agreement. Once he wakes, we will discuss what comes next."
She then turned to Twilight. "Until then, I task you with notifying both my sister and me when he regains consciousness. This situation is unlike any we have faced before, and it demands our full attention."
Twilight bowed her head. "Understood, Princess. I’ll send word as soon as he wakes."
Several Hours Later
Ethan stirred, a dull ache spreading through his body as his senses slowly returned. His mind was sluggish, struggling to recall what had happened before unconsciousness claimed him. His limbs felt heavy, yet as he attempted to move, a faint mechanical hum filled the room, followed by the cool sensation of a scanning field sweeping over his form.
"User consciousness detected. Initializing recovery assessment."
His eyes fluttered open to dim, sterile lighting above. Blinking against the brightness, he turned his head slightly, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. The medbay was sleek, lined with advanced medical equipment humming softly as they performed their programmed duties. The last thing he remembered was fighting against gravity, barely making it back inside the ship before everything went dark.
Now he was here. Still alive. Somehow.
He exhaled sharply, his throat dry. "VEGA... status report. What the hell happened?"
"You lost consciousness due to exhaustion and minor internal injuries sustained during reentry," VEGA responded. "Primary medical procedures were initiated upon your arrival in the medbay. You are now stable, though additional rest is recommended."
Ethan groaned, shifting slightly on the medical table. "Great. Anything else I should know?"
"Affirmative. While you were unconscious, I made first contact with the local inhabitants. They appear to be equine in nature, exhibiting a range of colors and possessing varying degrees of intelligence and leadership. Notably, a figure named Princess Luna, identified as a co-ruler of this land, has asserted temporary authority over this territory."
Ethan frowned. "Princess? Authority?"
"Correct. Princess Luna and her associates have examined the ship and monitored your condition. They appear non-hostile, though their interest in both you and this vessel is considerable. A contingent of their Night Guard remains stationed outside to prevent unauthorized access."
Ethan quirks an eyebrow. "Equine? VEGA, elaborate please."
"The local inhabitants resemble terrestrial equines but exhibit a broader range of colors, expressive facial structures, and apparent sapience. They possess a social hierarchy, with Princess Luna and her sister, Princess Celestia, as the ruling figures. The society appears structured around communal harmony, with notable technological and magical capabilities." VEGA paused briefly. "Additionally, they have shown curiosity and concern toward your arrival, but their intentions remain non-hostile."
Ethan exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "Great. First contact with a civilization of talking horses. Anything else I should brace myself for?"
"Yes. The Astraforge sustained moderate to severe damage during reentry and impact. Primary hull integrity remains at 62%, with several breaches along the outer structure. Power distribution is currently limited, and reactor efficiency has been reduced to 47%. Atmospheric processing remains functional, but shield emitters are offline, and long-range communications are inoperable. Structural integrity fields are weakened, and several internal sections remain inaccessible due to damage."
Ethan let out a low whistle. "That bad, huh? How's the inventory looking?"
"Material reserves are at 38% capacity. We have sufficient resources for minor repairs, but large-scale restoration efforts will require additional materials. Scans indicate viable resource deposits within range of this location. I recommend initiating a detailed assessment and prioritizing mining operations to supplement our inventory."
Ethan swung his legs off the medical table, wincing slightly. "Alright. Start a full diagnostic sweep and compile a repair priority list. Also, begin scanning for the best local resource sites. We’ll need to get to work as soon as possible."
He pushed himself up, feeling the stiffness in his limbs as he steadied himself. The medbay doors slid open, and he made his way through the dim corridors toward the crew common area. The thought of food—actual sustenance—was enough to push aside the lingering exhaustion. His stomach reminded him that he hadn’t eaten in far too long.
As he stepped inside, he froze.
Seated around the room, casually conversing, were the ponies. The colorful, expressive creatures VEGA had warned him about. Seeing them in person was something else entirely. The range of hues, from Twilight's deep purple to Rainbow Dash's brilliant blue, was jarring. His mind stalled, struggling to reconcile the absurdity of the moment with the sheer normalcy of their behavior.
His hesitation must have been noticeable, as Rainbow Dash turned and met his gaze. "Uh, you okay there, big guy?"
Ethan blinked. Then again. He inhaled, exhaled, and decided—he'd deal with this later. Right now, he had bigger problems.
"Yeah," he muttered, shaking his head and moving toward the storage compartment. "Just... need some food first."
He retrieved a ration pack from the storage unit, tearing it open as he moved to one of the central tables. The familiar hum of the holoemitter activated as he placed his hand over the interface, bringing up the preliminary damage report. As he chewed, his eyes flicked over the holographic projections, scanning through hull breaches, power distribution failures, and reactor efficiency losses. It was a mess, but at least it was still salvageable.
The sudden flickering of the display caught the attention of the ponies, who had been engaged in quiet conversation. Pinkie Pie’s ears perked up, her eyes locking onto the hologram as if it were the most fascinating thing in the world. Within seconds, she had bounded over to Ethan’s table, eyes wide with excitement.
"Ooooh! What’s this? It’s all glowy and floaty!" she exclaimed, reaching out experimentally.
Ethan barely had time to react before Pinkie’s hoof passed through the display. To his surprise, the interface reacted to her touch, causing some of the projections to shift slightly. Her eyes went even wider. "Oh my gosh, it moves! It’s like a super-duper fancy invisible touchscreen!"
Twilight, now intrigued, trotted over with the others close behind. "That’s a haptic interface? Fascinating. I didn’t think non-human users would be able to interact with it."
Ethan sighed, rubbing his temple. "Yeah, it’s a fully interactive holographic interface. Don’t go messing with the system settings, though. I don’t need my damage report scrambled."
Pinkie giggled but continued prodding at the display with glee, causing various sections of the report to flicker and rearrange. "This is amazing! Can we get one of these for Sugarcube Corner? Imagine the menus floating in the air! Maybe with touch buttons for custom cupcake orders!"
Ethan shook his head and refocused on the damage report, tuning out Pinkie’s enthusiastic rambling. He tapped the interface, highlighting critical system failures and prioritizing repair efforts.
"VEGA, launch a high-altitude probe. I want a full scan of the surrounding area, including potential threats and resource deposits. Relay the data once it’s compiled."
"Acknowledged," VEGA replied. "Launching probe now. Data collection in progress."
Ethan took another bite of his ration pack, exhaling slowly. He knew he had more pressing matters than entertaining curious ponies, but with them watching his every move, it was time to address them properly. He looked up at Twilight and the others, steeling himself for the inevitable questions. "Alright, I suppose you have some things you want to ask."
Twilight nodded, stepping forward cautiously. "You crashed here—VEGA said it wasn’t an accident. What happened?"
Ethan ran a hand through his hair, sighing. "Short version? I was caught in a gravitational anomaly. One moment I was in deep space, the next, I was free-falling toward the surface of this planet. My ship barely held together during reentry."
Twilight’s ears flicked forward in interest. "A gravitational anomaly? That sounds like advanced magic, or something we’ve never encountered before. Did you detect anything before it happened?"
Ethan shook his head. "Nothing. No warning, no sign of what was coming. It was as if something just... snapped me out of space and threw me here. VEGA's still analyzing what little data we have, but it doesn’t make any sense."
Rainbow Dash, hovering just above the table, crossed her forelegs. "Sounds like some pretty bad luck to me. You sure nopony—or no one—was messing with you?"
"If they were, they didn’t bother leaving a note," Ethan muttered, taking another bite of his food. "All I know is, I need to figure out how to fix my ship and see if I can retrace my steps. If I can figure out what pulled me here, maybe I can find a way to reverse it."
Rarity tilted her head, glancing at the holo-display. "Your ship certainly took quite the beating. Do you think you’ll even be able to repair it?"
Ethan exhaled through his nose. "I’ll have to. It’s not just about me—VEGA and this ship are my livelihood. Without it, I’m stranded. I’m hoping your world has some resources I can use to make repairs." He glanced at Twilight. "Speaking of, how advanced is your technology? Any chance you have spaceflight capabilities?"
Twilight winced slightly. "Not exactly. Our world’s technological progress has been... selective. We have steam power, airships, some advanced metallurgy, but nothing close to what you have here. The closest thing to space travel we have is theoretical magic."
Ethan frowned but nodded. "Figures. Then I’ll have to rely on salvaging and mining local resources. VEGA’s probe should give us a better idea of what’s available."
Pinkie Pie, who had been uncharacteristically quiet, suddenly grinned. "Ooooh, I know! Maybe we can throw a ‘Welcome to Equestria’ party to help you feel better! And we can totally add a ‘Sorry You Crashed’ banner to it!"
Ethan blinked, then chuckled despite himself. "I appreciate the sentiment, but I think I have bigger things to worry about first. Maybe after I get this mess sorted out."
Pinkie pouted but nodded enthusiastically. "It’s a deal!"
Ethan smirked slightly before turning his attention back to the holo-display. The damage report was bad, but manageable. He tapped a few sections of the screen, prioritizing the more immediate structural concerns. Clearing blocked corridors and regaining access to the ship’s essential compartments was the first step.
"VEGA, deploy the repair drones. Have them begin clearing obstructed areas and restoring interior pathways. Focus on critical systems first—power conduits, life support, and reinforcement of any weakened sections."
"Acknowledged. Deploying repair units now. Estimated clearance and restoration time: four hours for primary sections, additional work pending material availability."
Ethan nodded. "Good. Also, prepare the grinders and mining units. I want the area around the ship cleared of debris, and we need to start gathering whatever salvageable material we can find. Once the probe completes its scan, we’ll know where to focus for resource extraction."
"Understood. Preparing excavation and resource collection units. Standby for updated terrain mapping."
The ponies exchanged glances as they listened, Twilight in particular looking intrigued. "You can command machines to do all of that remotely?"
Ethan exhaled, rubbing his temples. "Yeah. It’s all automated—drones handle most of the grunt work, but I still need to oversee everything and make sure they don’t break something important."
Applejack whistled. "That’s mighty impressive. Almost like havin’ a whole crew without the extra mouths to feed."
"More like a bunch of toddlers with power tools," Ethan muttered. "If I don’t keep an eye on them, they’ll dismantle something I actually need."
Rainbow Dash snickered. "Sounds like you’re babysitting a bunch of overgrown magic golems."
Ethan shook his head with a tired chuckle. "Yeah, something like that."
He glanced back at the holo-display, flipping through sections of the damage report. One issue stood out among the rest—his ship's landing gear had failed to deploy properly due to the crash, leaving the Astraforge awkwardly tilted on uneven ground. It would be nearly impossible to conduct external repairs with the ship in such an unstable position.
"VEGA, add landing gear deployment to the priority list. We need to stabilize the ship before we do any major work on the outer hull."
"Acknowledged," VEGA responded. "However, manual intervention or external lifting assistance will be required to reposition the ship for proper deployment."
Ethan leaned back in his chair, exhaling slowly. "Figures. Alright, Twilight, you mentioned your world has airships. Do you have any kind of heavy-lifting equipment—cranes, pulleys, anything that could help shift a ship this size?"
Twilight's ears perked up, and she exchanged a glance with Applejack. "We do have some large-scale construction equipment in Canterlot and a few places like Manehattan. Most of it is magically assisted, though. We’d have to see what’s available nearby."
Applejack nodded. "Might be able to get some o’ the farm’s pulleys and rigging if that’d help, but for somethin’ this big, we’re probably gonna need a whole lot more than that."
Ethan nodded, considering his options. "Alright. VEGA, compile an estimate of the force needed to lift and stabilize the ship. If magic can supplement it, we might be able to make this work."
"Processing," VEGA replied. "Estimated calculations will be available shortly. Based on initial mass distribution, standard lifting equipment may not be sufficient. If magical assistance can provide consistent force application, structural stabilization could be achieved with combined efforts."
Ethan leaned forward, rubbing his chin. "Alright, so we might need a mix of magic and tech. Twilight, how precise is your telekinesis? Could you manage a steady hold if we rigged up mechanical supports?"
Twilight considered for a moment. "Holding up an object this size is far beyond what I’ve tried before, but with proper stabilization, I could help distribute the weight. If we had multiple unicorns assisting, it might be manageable."
Applejack tapped her hoof against the floor. "Maybe we could borrow some heavy-duty lifting harnesses from the construction yards in Ponyville. If we combine those with Twilight’s magic, we might be able to lift it just enough for the landing gear to deploy."
Ethan nodded. "Good thinking. VEGA, add reinforced harnesses to the list of necessary equipment. Once we confirm their availability, we’ll figure out the logistics."
"Understood," VEGA confirmed. "Awaiting further input on material compatibility. Incoming data from high-altitude probe. Processing results now."
Ethan sat up straighter, his eyes narrowing slightly as a new holographic window materialized above the table, displaying a rotating three-dimensional topographical map of the surrounding terrain. Various sections flickered as scan data compiled, highlighting notable features.
"Initial findings indicate multiple resource deposits within a fifty-kilometer radius. High concentrations of ferrous metals, aluminum, and trace amounts of rare elements detected. Additionally, anomalous energy signatures have been recorded approximately seventeen kilometers northeast of this position. Further analysis required."
Twilight’s ears perked up as she studied the glowing projection. "That’s near the Everfree Forest. If there’s an anomaly there, we should be careful. That place is unpredictable."
Ethan frowned. "Yeah, well, unpredictable might be what I need. If there’s anything useful, we’ll need to check it out sooner rather than later. VEGA, flag that anomaly for further investigation, but focus resource extraction efforts on the closest viable deposits. Start mapping potential mining routes."
"Acknowledged. Prioritizing nearest resource sites and establishing extraction feasibility. Further details incoming."
Twilight, taking in the gravity of the situation, pulled out a scroll and quill with her magic. She quickly began writing a letter to Princess Luna, detailing Ethan’s recovery and the results of the initial scans.
"Dear Princess Luna,
I am writing to inform you that Ethan Harlow has regained consciousness. He appears stable, though still recovering from the crash. We have begun discussing the repair efforts for his ship, and he is assessing local resources for potential salvage and mining operations.
Additionally, VEGA’s probe has identified multiple resource deposits within fifty kilometers of the crash site, as well as an anomalous energy signature near the Everfree Forest. Ethan is concerned about this anomaly and believes it warrants further investigation.
Given the circumstances, he has also inquired about heavy-lifting equipment that might assist in stabilizing his ship. We may need assistance from Canterlot’s engineers or magically-assisted lifting mechanisms.
Please let me know how you wish to proceed.
Your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle."
She rolled up the scroll and, with a quick burst of magic, sent it off to Princess Luna. Looking back at Ethan, she nodded. "There, now she’ll be up to speed. We’ll see what she says."
As the hours passed and the sun began to set, the air around the crash site took on a cooler, calmer quality. The golden hues of the evening sky cast long shadows over the Astraforge, giving its battered hull a muted glow. The rhythmic hum of repair drones at work filled the quiet, their lights flickering as they moved efficiently through the damaged corridors.
Ethan stood near the main access hatch, arms crossed as he watched the surrounding area. He knew that meeting with the ruling figures of this land was inevitable, and it seemed that moment had finally arrived.
A sudden gust of wind, accompanied by the steady beat of powerful wings, signaled their approach. Looking up, he spotted two regal figures descending gracefully from the sky, their ethereal manes flowing in the fading light. Princess Luna and Princess Celestia landed with practiced ease, their thestral-pulled chariot touching down just behind them. The Night Guard flanked them, their golden eyes glinting in the twilight.
Ethan straightened as Twilight stepped forward to greet them. "Princess Celestia, Princess Luna—thank you for coming so quickly."
Celestia nodded, her warm yet assessing gaze shifting toward Ethan. "Twilight’s message was quite thorough. We came as soon as we could."
Luna stepped closer, her gaze sharp as she studied Ethan. "Ethan Harlow. You have recovered. That is well. We have much to discuss regarding your arrival, the damage to your vessel, and what the future may hold."
Ethan exhaled and gave a curt nod. "Agreed. Let’s talk. Follow me."
Turning on his heel, he led the princesses through the ship’s dim corridors, the soft hum of emergency lighting casting a faint glow over the worn metallic walls. The path wound past several closed-off sections, where repair drones were still busy clearing debris and patching compromised bulkheads.
After a short walk, they reached a reinforced door that slid open at Ethan’s approach. The room beyond was relatively small but functional—a briefing room located just behind the bridge, doubling as his makeshift office. A central holo-table dominated the space, various schematics and reports flickering over its surface. Along the walls, storage compartments and secured panels hinted at its former use as a planning station.
Ethan gestured toward the seating around the table. "This is about the closest thing I have to an office. Have a seat."
As the princesses settled in, Luna studied Ethan for a moment before speaking. "I must say, you are taking this situation surprisingly well. Most would be overwhelmed by such a sudden and drastic shift in circumstances."
Ethan exhaled, leaning back slightly. "Well, it’s not my first time dealing with unexpected disaster. You get used to rolling with the punches when you spend enough time in deep space. And this isn’t even the first time I’ve met aliens—though I’ll admit, this is probably the most colorful group I’ve encountered."
Celestia arched an elegant brow. "You have encountered other sentient species before?"
Ethan nodded, shifting slightly in his seat. "Yeah. Some friendlier than others. Some were just traders and explorers, like me. Others... well, let’s just say not everyone out there has good intentions. I’ve had to defend myself more times than I care to count."
Luna leaned forward, her gaze sharp with interest. "And what of these other species? What are they like? Are they like you?"
Ethan smirked slightly. "Not exactly. There’s a lot of variety. Some humanoid, some not. Some rely on technology, others on biology or even things that seem like magic but aren’t. I’ve met beings that communicate purely through sound vibrations and others that exist in multiple dimensions at once. The galaxy’s a big place."
Twilight, who had been quietly absorbing the conversation, spoke up, her curiosity piqued. "And yet, you seem remarkably calm about being stranded on an unknown world."
Ethan shrugged. "Comes with the job. Panic doesn’t get you anywhere. You assess, adapt, and move forward. If you sit around worrying about what you can’t control, you’ll never get anywhere."
Celestia smiled faintly. "A pragmatic outlook. One that has likely served you well. But I must ask—do you seek only to repair your ship and leave, or do you see the potential for something more?"
Ethan paused, considering the question. "Right now? I need to get my ship operational. But beyond that... I don’t know yet. I didn’t choose to come here, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something worth exploring while I’m here."
He smirked slightly. "Though, if this were some old TV show I watched years ago, I’m pretty sure there’d be some kind of 'Prime Directive' about not interfering with less advanced civilizations. I guess I already blew that out of the airlock. Not that I ever bought into that philosophy much. Sometimes, standing back and doing nothing is the worst choice you can make."
Luna tilted her head slightly. "So you do not believe in such restrictions? That those with greater knowledge should remain uninvolved in the affairs of those with less?"
Ethan chuckled, shaking his head. "It’s more complicated than that. If you’re dealing with a developing species that’s still figuring things out for themselves, maybe staying out of their way is the right call. But if they’re already aware of the wider universe—or if their survival is on the line—I’d say stepping in makes a lot more sense."
Celestia nodded thoughtfully. "An interesting perspective. One that suggests responsibility rather than detachment."
Ethan leaned back. "I’ve seen what happens when more advanced civilizations turn their backs on those who need help. It rarely ends well. Besides, I think we’re past the point of non-interference. I’m already here, after all."
Celestia studied Ethan for a moment before offering a small nod. “It seems, then, that you do not merely see yourself as a visitor. If circumstances had been different, would you have ever sought contact with a world like ours?”
Ethan exhaled. “Hard to say. Most spacefaring civilizations have rules against just dropping in on a planet unannounced. Even if I had stumbled across Equus in the right circumstances, there’s no telling how that would’ve played out.”
Luna’s gaze sharpened. “And yet, you are here now. Your presence alone has altered the course of events.”
Ethan leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table. “Yeah. And that means we need to start making some decisions. My ship needs repairs, and while I’m working on that, I need to know how much involvement you’re comfortable with. I’m not here to upend your way of life, but if I can help with something in return for the resources I need, that seems like a fair trade.”
Celestia and Luna exchanged a look, a silent conversation passing between them. Finally, Celestia spoke. "You propose a mutual exchange, then?"
Ethan nodded. "That's the idea. I don’t expect a free pass here, but if I can contribute something useful while I’m stuck, it only makes sense to work together."
Luna tapped a hoof lightly against the table, her expression contemplative. "And what, exactly, would you offer in return? You mentioned advanced civilizations—surely your knowledge of technology surpasses what we possess. But are you willing to share it?"
Ethan exhaled, drumming his fingers on the table. "That depends. Some things, sure—materials science, engineering principles, maybe even medical advancements if you need them. But weapons? Starship-grade technology? That’s a harder no. There’s a reason most civilizations have restrictions on tech sharing. Even with good intentions, it can lead to bad outcomes."
Twilight, who had been listening intently, nodded. "That makes sense. Giving us something beyond our understanding could cause more harm than good. But limited exchanges might benefit both sides."
Celestia smiled slightly. "A wise approach. One that speaks of experience." She considered for a moment before continuing, "Very well, Ethan Harlow. We are willing to discuss this arrangement further. For now, you require assistance with your ship’s repairs. If we can provide what you need, we will. But in return, I expect transparency. If you encounter something dangerous—whether from your world or ours—I ask that you inform us immediately."
Ethan met her gaze, weighing her words. "Agreed. I can work with that."
Ethan nodded, "I believe that it would be beneficial for both parties. Especially if I'm stuck here for a long time." He suddenly looked off to the side before calling out to VEGA. "VEGA, I forgot to do this earlier. But launch a dozen orbital probes to begin scanning the surrounding stars to try to triangulate our stellar position. See how far we got displaced when all this started."
"Acknowledged," VEGA responded. "Launching probes now. Estimated time until full stellar mapping is completed: approximately six hours. Data will be compiled and transmitted as soon as sufficient readings are obtained."
Luna’s ears perked slightly. "You are attempting to locate your original point of origin?"
Ethan nodded. "Yeah. If I can figure out where I am, I might have a chance at figuring out how I got here—and maybe even a way back. Not that I’m in a hurry to leave just yet, but it’s good to have options."
Celestia studied him for a moment. "And if you cannot return?"
Ethan exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "Then I start thinking long-term. But I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. For now, getting my ship operational is priority one."
He stood up from his seat and gave a nod to the princesses. "If that is all, I have to get started on the major repairs. Twilight, let me know when you can get that heavy lift equipment out here, so we can get this old girl back on her feet."
Twilight perked up at the mention of the equipment. "I’ll send word to the construction teams in Canterlot and Manehattan first thing in the morning. It might take a day or two to get everything transported here, but we’ll make it work."
Luna gave an approving nod. "We shall expedite the process where we can. This vessel is unlike anything we have encountered before. Ensuring it does not deteriorate further will be in our best interests as well."
Celestia stood gracefully. "And we will ensure that your needs are met as fairly as possible. You may not have come here by choice, Ethan Harlow, but while you are in our lands, you will not be left to struggle alone."
Ethan gave a small smirk. "I appreciate that. It’s been a while since I had anyone watching my back."
He glanced toward VEGA’s holo-display, already compiling repair schematics and materials lists. "Alright then. Let’s get to work."
A few hours later, Ethan was finishing up troubleshooting a short in the primary coolant pump assembly for the reactor. He needed to get the reactors efficiency back up to acceptable levels before anything else.
Ethan wiped a streak of grease from his forehead, exhaling as he rechecked the readings on his diagnostic tool. The coolant pump assembly was one of many critical failures that had been hindering the Astraforge’s stability. Right now, the reactor was running at suboptimal efficiency, forcing him to rely on backup systems to keep life support and primary functions operational.
“VEGA, run another thermal scan on the primary coolant lines. I need to be sure we don’t have microfractures in the conduits.”
“Scanning now,” VEGA’s voice responded smoothly. A few seconds later, a holographic overlay appeared above the workstation. “Coolant circulation has improved by 17%. However, there is still a 9% variance in flow efficiency. Minor microfractures detected in secondary piping—recommend immediate reinforcement.”
Ethan sighed, rubbing his face. “Yeah, figures. Those fractures are only going to get worse under load.” He glanced toward the parts storage in the maintenance bay, considering his options. “Alright, flag those sections for patching. I’ll need to weld reinforcements in place before we push the reactor harder.”
As he turned to grab a fresh sealant kit, he heard hoofsteps approaching. Twilight and Applejack stepped into the engineering bay, their eyes scanning the complex layout of consoles, machinery, and exposed conduits.
Twilight’s ears flicked as she took in the various diagnostic readouts. “It’s fascinating how much redundancy your systems have. Even with this much damage, your ship still functions.”
Ethan gave her a wry smirk. “Barely. Right now, I’m just keeping it from becoming a glorified metal tomb.” He gestured to the coolant pump. “This thing’s holding my reactor together. If it fails completely, we’re looking at a full system shutdown.”
Applejack whistled lowly. “Well, sugarcube, that don’t sound good. You got what ya need to fix it?”
“Mostly,” Ethan admitted. “I can reinforce it, but I’ll need raw materials to do anything more permanent. That’s why VEGA’s scans are important—I need to see what we can salvage from your world.”
Twilight nodded. “Speaking of that, we’ve started arrangements for the heavy lift equipment. The soonest we can get it here is by tomorrow evening.”
Ethan nodded. “Good. The sooner we get this ship stabilized, the sooner I can do real repairs.”
Applejack glanced around at the cluttered workspace, her eyes landing on a set of welding tools. “If ya need extra hooves, I reckon I could lend some muscle. Ain’t a stranger to fixin’ busted equipment.”
Ethan raised an eyebrow. “You ever welded before?”
Applejack shrugged. “Not in space, but I figure metal’s metal.”
Ethan chuckled. “Fair enough. I’ll take all the help I can get.”
He set the sealant kit down, his mind already turning toward the next priority—securing enough power to maintain stability. "VEGA, where is the next area that's affecting the reactor's output?"
"Analyzing..." VEGA responded, a faint hum filling the engineering bay as a new diagnostic display flickered into view. "Primary energy distribution nodes remain functional, but there is a 23% power loss along the secondary conduits. The primary reactor control matrix is intact, but its relay systems are experiencing intermittent failures. Additionally, one of the tertiary coolant manifolds has sustained structural weakening, reducing overall efficiency."
Ethan frowned, studying the highlighted sections on the holo-display. "That’s not great. If the relay systems are cutting in and out, it means the ship is compensating with backup circuits. That’s going to burn through reserves faster than I’d like."
Twilight stepped closer, eyes darting over the readouts. "Is there anything we can do to help stabilize it?"
Ethan tapped a section of the display, isolating the faulty conduits. "I need to reinforce the primary relay pathways and stabilize the tertiary coolant manifold. I’ve got spare conduit segments in storage, but it’ll take some time to splice them in. And I’ll need some way to reinforce the coolant manifold before it cracks completely."
Applejack gave him a confident grin. "Well, if it’s bracin’ somethin’ that’s about to break, we got plenty of experience with that on the farm. You point me where ya need it, and I’ll make sure it holds."
Ethan smirked. "Alright. Let’s get to work before something else decides to break."
It was late at night by the time they finished patching the reactor’s systems, managing to get the output up to an acceptable level before calling it quits.
Ethan let out a weary sigh, pulling off his work gloves and setting them on a nearby console. The dull ache in his muscles reminded him that he had been at this for hours, and exhaustion was beginning to settle in. He leaned against the bulkhead, glancing over at Applejack, who wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead with the back of her hoof.
"Gotta say, sugarcube, this kinda work ain't much different from fixin’ up old equipment on the farm. Just with a lot more... glowy bits," Applejack said, nodding toward the still-flickering holo-displays.
Ethan smirked. "Yeah, well, at least out here you don’t have to worry about rust. Just radiation leaks and pressure failures."
Twilight, who had been making notes on a floating clipboard, glanced up. "I have to admit, I never imagined I’d be learning about advanced energy distribution systems firsthand. This is incredible. If only I could study your reactor more closely."
Ethan chuckled. "One step at a time, Sparkle. Right now, I’m just happy it’s not going to blow up while we sleep."
VEGA’s voice crackled through the overhead speakers. "Reactor efficiency is now at 78%. Continued monitoring required, but immediate structural failures have been mitigated."
Ethan pushed off from the bulkhead, stretching. "That’s good enough for now. Let’s get some rest. Tomorrow, we start figuring out how to get this ship upright again."
Applejack nodded, already heading toward the corridor. "Well, if ya need me bright and early, just holler. Reckon we still got a lotta work ahead."
Twilight hesitated for a moment before following, her mind clearly still buzzing with questions. "Goodnight, Ethan."
Ethan watched them go before exhaling deeply, rubbing at his temple. He’d made progress today, but there was still so much left to do. As the ship’s lights dimmed to nighttime mode, he made his way toward his quarters, mind already racing with what the next day would bring.
