Your Run of the Mill Twixie Fic
One - Consolation and Stimulation
To paint a not-so-cliché picture in an assuredly cliché manner, it was a beautiful Autumn day in Ponyville. The crisp, cool wind blowing in across the Everfree Forest rustled the leaves in the trees, colours aflame in bright, vibrant yellow and red hues. Filly and foal alike were often seen trotting about in the latest scarves and jackets in time with the current fashions; useful, yet stylish deterrents to the sometimes biting winds that could send a chill right through a pony’s fur.
Speaking of which, here’s an example.
Trixie, known to insist upon her full title of “Great and Powerful, The” to most, stood stock-still at the entrance to Ponyville’s one and only treehouse library. Her light blue hoof stood firm in the air, as if transfixed upon the task it was meant to accomplish. The unicorn mare gulped.
Come on, now… keep it together, Trixie…
With a slight shimmer of light purple magic and a sudden creak, the door pulled itself open a few inches, giving Trixie a start as she yelped and skittered backward a few steps. Twilight, upon identifying the somewhat familiar magical presence that stood, unmoving, in front of her door for the better part of ten minutes, immediately rolled her eyes.
“Really, Trixie? This again?”
“Y-yes, this again! How many times must Trixie say it for you to understand?! When Trixie beseeched the Princess for another chance, something Trixie could do in order to better her reputation-“
“-Which, by the way, was very kind and generous of her to do-“
“-Trixie already knows that!” Trixie re-interrupted with a snort, jabbing an accusational foreleg at the purple unicorn. “All Trixie is trying to say is that Trixie didn’t exactly have the best understanding of the conditions at the time!”
“And we’ve been over this!” Twilight said, accompanied by a trademark grunt of frustration. “Look, Trixie – I don’t know what else you expect me to do! I’ve given you your own room, I let you get Celestia knows how drunk at random hours of the night, I’ve tried my best to help you improve not only your skills as a showmare, but as a pony’s pony as well-“
“-And Trixie knows that, too!” Trixie replied. “Twilight, Trixie- I… I know that I haven’t been the most… flexible of ponies to bunk with. And I know what a burden I’ve been – Ah!” Trixie held a hoof in front of Twilight’s face, as she looked like she wanted to interrupt. “I’ll be the first to admit it, Sparkle. I know I can be a real pain in the flank, sometimes.”
Twilight was unsure of how to respond to that.
“Won’t-“ she started, “…won’t you come in?” Twilight asked. Without a word, Trixie entered.
As the door to the hollowed-out tree shut behind the two mares (again, on its own), Trixie noted with some sense of amusement that Twilight’s irritating little dragon assistant was again not present.
“The short one. Is he with the yellow one again? You know, the one who’s afraid of her own shadow?”
Twilight snorted, not amused. “Yes, as a matter of fact. Spike is indeed with my good friend Fluttershy this evening. You’ve been around long enough to at least know their names, Trixie. You’re not fooling anypony.”
“So?!” Trixie shot back, fighting back a smirk. “You’ve been around me long enough to know that it is in Trixie’s nature to be accusatory, coyly ignorant and all-around obtuse and belligerent.”
Twilight fought back a similar smirk. Say what you want about the often-obnoxious, loud and generally somewhat unpleasant blue unicorn mare, but… well, there just seemed to be something about her that endeared her to Twilight Sparkle – regardless of the fact that said purple mare was still in the process of mentally adamantly denying it.
“That’s what I’m saying, Trixie… I mean, look at me, for example! I’ve let you stay in my home for three whole nights now, and – well, yes, there were times that I thought I might like to strangle you, but you’re still breathing, aren’t you?”
“Ha-ha. Very cute, Sparkle. You actually think that the Great and Powerful Trixie is afraid of the likes of you? Has it ever struck you that Trixie is perhaps just a bit of a far cry from ‘timid’?”
“Well, if that’s the case-“ Twilight countered, “why were you standing outside my door for ten minutes before I opened it up for you?”
Trixie reeled a bit. “But how – how could you-?”
“Unicorn, remember?” Twilight chided, pointing to her horn with a purple hoof.
“…crap,” Trixie conceded. “Trixie hadn’t meant for Twilight to become… aware of that little tidbit.”
“Well… I still don’t understand why you’re nervous, Trixie.”
“Oh, you don’t, hm? Not even after that impromptu psycho-analysis session you pulled on me two nights ago? The time where you ducked your head around for about three seconds and then your mane was somehow suddenly done up in a bun?”
“I told you, that was nothing more than a basic level manipulation spell-“
“-witchcraft!” Trixie interrupted yet again, throwing in another accusatory foreleg for good measure. “Nopony does a bun that neat in three bloody seconds, demon!”
“Demon? What in the world-“
“Fine! Just – just forget about that incident for the time being. You’re allowing Trixie to become distracted.”
“Trixie, if there’s something on your mind, I really wish you’d just…”
“What? You wish Trixie would just…?”
“Just tell me, ok? How can you expect me to help you if you don’t even tell me anything?”
“But what if – if Trixie isn’t in the mood? Or maybe she doesn’t trust the librarian enough just yet?” Trixie countered.
“Then that’s fine! It’s totally fine! Look, Trixie – “ Twilight pleaded, staring the now spooked blue unicorn mare in the eyes, “- I just want to help. That’s all I ever wanted. I’m not trying to force you to become anypony that you don’t want to be, I’m not some ‘puppet in the Princess’ nefarious plans,’ as I believe you put it; I don’t even want you to change your attitude all that much, to be honest! I kinda think that it’s cu-“ Twilight began, before something clicked.
To the outside observer, it would have seemed like a mere fraction of a second before the purple unicorn mare’s blush appeared, spontaneously growing redder than a freshly spanked flank, clapping her front hooves over her mouth, lest the full word somehow betray her more than it already had and accidentally escape.
“Trixie is sure that- wait, huh?” The showmare stopped dead in her tracks, her ears swiveling toward the half-completed word that still lingered in the air somehow. Something clicked, too, in her head as it too swiveled on her neck, looking at the suddenly very bashful unicorn mare in a confused, calculating light.
Did she really just say what I think she did? Trixie thought to herself.
Did I really almost just say what I think I did?! Twilight internally screeched at herself.
“Twilight…” Trixie began, her voice softer than the purple unicorn had ever heard it. “… do you remember that night? Was it really only one week ago?”
Twilight thought. Then, she remembered.
One week ago
The knocks on the library’s front door that night came quickly, loudly, and at an obscene hour.
Twilight Sparkle irritably rolled out of bed, her horn almost automatically lighting a candle before the candle itself became encompassed in a pale, see-through light purple haze that floated it toward the mare’s path ahead.
“I swear to Celestia, if this is another one of Pinkie’s ‘oh hey, why don’t I get up in the middle of the Celestia-damned night and invite everypony I know to a party I just had a dream about’ thing, I’m gonna…” the librarian grumbled, her proposed, hypothetical comeuppance growing more dark and grim the closer she approached to the racket coming from the bottom of the staircase. The pounding only continued at its quick, frenetic pace, accompanied by what Twilight immediately identified as harried, heavy breathing, the kind of respiration exhibited by a pony after exerting himself or herself physically for a long period of time.
A mild, uneasy sense of panic set in as Twilight quickened her pace, already reaching out towards the door with her light purple magical aura.
As she swung the door open, a light-blue blur came crashing through the threshold, immediately scurrying inward before turning a full one hundred and eighty degrees. The obviously exhausted mystery pony heaved the door shut, hooves frantically fumbling for the latch on the side of the door.
“Oh my goodness!” Twilight immediately called out, taking a few more hurried hoofsteps closer to the now shaking heap on the library’s hard wooden flooring. The darkened, larger area of the library’s entrance hallway allowed the single source of light, Twilight Sparkle’s candle, to cast dancing shadows across the many walls and crevices housed within the library as the flame danced and crackled with every wafting movement of Twilight’s magic. “Who is that? Are you ok?”
“No, Trixie is most certainly not ok!” The shivering mass blubbered, as light blue forelegs held the torso.
“Tr-… Trixie? Is that you?” Twilight asked, stepping even closer. As she approached the mare’s form, the candle light illuminated her features – light blue, soaking wet fur, matted in several places and caked with mud; a few scratches here and there along the hide, accompanied by what looked like a nasty bruise on the right side of the unicorn mare’s head.
“Oh my gosh, Trixie! What happened to you?” Twilight questioned impatiently, already calculating several possible courses of action.
“Some roguish ruffians in the Everfree Forest ambushed Trixie and stole her cart! Trixie’s whole life was in there, purple one! Trixie hardly got out alive!” Trixie wailed, blindly flinging herself into Twilight’s surprised hooves. Somewhat startled by the sudden expression of desolation, Twilight gently set the candle down on the floor to focus her attention on the nearly hysterical, sobbing mare she suddenly found herself cradling in her lap. Without really knowing what she was doing, Twilight began to run her forehooves through Trixie’s mane, murmuring quiet, abating answers as the blue unicorn mare cried herself dry, pleading with Twilight for a reason for the tragedy that had befallen her.
For what felt like the better part of five minutes, Twilight simply held Trixie there. After a time, though, Trixie ran a hoof sideways across her muzzle, stirring. Twilight held her hooves away, allowing the blue unicorn room to stand on her own four legs.
“That was… nice…” Trixie mumbled, blushing slightly.
“What was that?” Twilight asked, not quite hearing Trixie.
“It… nothing,” Trixie replied, her voice taking on sudden strength. “It was nothing. I –I mean, Trixie… Trixie doesn’t know what to do, purple one.”
“Twilight.”
Trixie looked confused, for a moment. “No, Trixie believes that it is evening – perhaps even early morning.”
“No, Twilight – that’s my name, Twilight!”
“Twilight?”
“Yes, Twilight Sparkle – not ‘purple one,’ ok?”
“Hmph. Whatever you say, purple one.”
“You-“ Twilight started, but stopped just as quickly. Remembering Trixie’s usually confrontational attitude, Twilight resolved to allow Trixie a few shots and/or jabs at her expense. This was, after all, probably a humiliating experience, sniveling to a supposed arch-rival in the middle of the night.
“This is such a humiliating experience, sniveling to my supposed arch-rival in the middle of the night!” Trixie huffed. Twilight blinked.
“You don’t say,” Twilight bluffed, putting on her best poker face. Whether Trixie noticed the feint, Twilight couldn’t be certain.
“Trixie… thanks you, Twilight, for comforting her. Now, if you’ll kindly direct Trixie to the nearest Inn this Podunk little town has to offer, Trixie will be off to lament the de facto loss of the entire livelihood, not to mention precious family heirlooms and irreplaceable keepsakes.”
Twilight couldn’t resist. “You mean – oh, Trixie, I’m so sorry…”
“You aren’t the only one,” Trixie replied morosely.
“There’s… I mean, I suppose old mister Cloud Watcher might be able to put you up, but he’s kinda old, see, and he probably wouldn’t be up at this time of night…”
“…fantastic.”
“Well… I guess…”
“Hm? Any further brilliant, tantalizing ideas, Sparkle?”
“Hey, wh- Sparkle? Really? I-“
“It’s better than ‘purple one,’ is it not?” Trixie countered.
“Well, yeah, but-“
“Then take what you can get, Sparkle. It means Trixie is warming up to you.”
“I – hwa – wuzzat?” Twilight stumbled verbally, unsure how to reply for a moment. It was as though a small detonation had gone off in her brain.
“Hah! Trixie thinks that you are amusing, Sparkle. Also a good trait in yet another devotee to Trixie’s wonderfulness, Trixie supposes.”
“Is it lonely up there?” Twilight asked suddenly.
“Lonely up where?” Trixie bit.
Twilight grinned. “Up on your soapbox, Trixie.”
“Up on my- hey! That’s- ooh!” Trixie fumed, not used to being beaten in the linguistic duel of wit known as playful flirting. Trixie breathed for a moment, before smirking her trademark smirk. “Hmph. Trixie admits that that one was at least a tiny bit clever.”
“Why thank you,” Twilight replied smugly.
“Trixie believes that Twilight was about to say something just then?” Trixie asked.
“Oh, right! Rather than wake mister Cloud Watcher, why don’t you stay here for the night? I’ve got plenty of space, and-“
“-oh no, nice try, Sparkle! Think you can fool me with your false kindness, eh? Think you could just trap your arch-nemesis in your treehouse laboratory of undoubtedly devious… deviousness, eh? Well, Trixie won’t fall for it! Where’s the booby trap, huh, Sparkle? Is – Trixie isn’t already standing on it, is she?”
“Booby-… what in the hoof are you talking about, Trixie?” Twilight asked, dumbfounded. “Booby traps? Arch-nemesis? Treehouse laborat- oh, wait, I actually do have one of those…”
“See?!”
“Trixie, seriously? If I was going to kill you or capture your or involve you in my devious, nefarious plans, don’t you think I would have done it already? Furthermore, why would you come to me of you suspected some manner of supervillian-esque foul play? And furthermore, why would I be offering you shelter from the assuredly freezing Autumn evening if I wanted any harm to come to you?”
“Trixie – that is, Trixie means –“
“Think about it, Trixie. It just doesn’t make any sense.”
Trixie sighed, turning to face Twilight. “Trixie… I suppose that you’re right. If you’re really kind enough to offer me your home after I so rudely awoke you, how could I possibly say no?” She replied in a softer tone. “Tr- I know that I can be… difficult… sometimes, but the truth is that I really don’t have a whole lot of friends because I travel so often, and so I’ve just grown a bit bitter is all. Trixie doesn’t mean to keep hurting anypony’s feelings, but it just seems to keep happening. And… Trixie’s sorry.”
Twilight thought about her response for a moment. “That’s… if that’s all really true, then that’s perfectly okay, Trixie. To tell you the truth… I used to wonder what friendship could be. There was a time, earlier on in my life, that I regarded friendship as some sort of trivial pursuit, not worthy of serious effort. That was before I moved here, where I bet the five best friends a girl could ever hope for. Without friendship in a pony’s life, things just don’t seem as… as bright, I suppose. And I believe that nopony deserves… well, that.”
Trixie was silent. The soft patter of rainfall against the shutters on the windows, accompanied by the gentle, persistent roar of wind as it rolled through the town proper, were the only sounds to be heard between the two mares for the better part of a minute.
“I… suppose you’re right,” Trixie said, albeit at almost above a whisper.
“Come on, now. You’ve had a rough evening, and you deserve a little TLC,” Twilight insisted.
“Tequila, Liquor and Coc-“ Trixie began.
“-Tender Loving Care!” Twilight quickly interjected, fighting off a serious blush. “Goodness, Trixie, what kind of mare do you think I am-“
“-cocktails!” Trixie re-interjected, enunciating the last syllable very clearly. “Trixie meant cocktails, Twilight! Trixie only thought you were asking her out for a drink, was all! Trixie didn’t mean to suggest-“
“-no, no… it’s fine. I’m sorry I overreacted. It’s fine,” Twilight insisted, holding her hooves out placatingly. “I’m just not used to being up at this hour is all, and I might just be a teeny bit cranky is all,” she re-assured her.
“Trixie understands, and apologizes for waking you. Trixie only wants now to rest in a warm, comfortable bed… after perhaps getting cleaned up just a bit,” she almost pleaded, now regarding her filthy coat in the dim light for the first time.
“O-of course,” Twilight said. “Master bathroom is just up the staircase, third door on your left. There are fresh towels hanging next to the shower, and feel free to help yourself to any shampoo you might need,” she added.
“Trixie appreciates your hospitality, Sparkle. It takes a better pony than Trixie to put up a pony that nearly got the entire town trampled by a pissed off star bear by proxy.”
Twilight giggled at that. “It’s water under the bridge, really. I did some thinking after you ran off, and… well, I’ve forgiven you, at least. I don’t know if that helps or means anything, but it’s true,” she said.
“Trixie appreciates that sentiment as much, if not a tad more so than Twilight’s hospitality,” Trixie said demurely.
“Why don’t you go and clean up, and I’ll prepare the guest bedroom for you?” Twilight suggested.
“That would be wonderful,” Trixie replied.Twilight found her eyebrow rising on its own accord as she watched Trixie do a half-hearted little gesture that might have well been interpreted as a curtsy, before she turned tail and began slowly taking the steps leading up to the hot, steamy shower that would soon prove to be her coat’s salvation.
That was… odd… Twilight thought to herself, as she willed her inquisitive eyebrow back down into its neutral position.
“Don’t wanna give away a tell or anything,” she quietly reprimanded the traitorous thing. It gave a twitch on its own accord, then mentally fell in line.

Meanwhile, Trixie found herself thankful that her not unsubstantial well of magic had not yet been nearly depleted that evening, despite her profound and pronounced weariness. It had indeed been quite the ‘rough evening,’ as the purple on- Sparkle – put it. Stumbling blindly through the accursed undergrowth of the Everfree Forest was far from the top of Trixie’s list of ‘exceedingly fun things to do while the cold rain splashes in waves against your suddenly unprotected coat.’ That honour belonged to posing for a photograph or magazine, play ‘rub-the-daisy’ in the morning in a cold pond to will herself awake, and raunchy, almost cliché sex on a freezing beach somewhere, the warmth of the bodies entwined, thrashing and grinding every crevice –
-woah, Trixie. Whoa. Let’s keep that reined in for the moment, girlfriend, ok? You’re in a strange house -the house of, not to mention, the very unicorn that made you look like a foal in front of everypony in this Podunk little town..
“What, precisely does the word ‘Podunk’ mean, anyhow?” Trixie asked herself, as she derailed the suddenly sexy train of thought that had wanted to dock at her mental station. She pushed open the slightly ajar door, the very one Sparkle had said would be the master bathroom.
Trixie fumbled around for a light switch, finally finding the damnably tough to find thing in an adjacent corner from the entrance. Within an instant, a soft, white glow began to emanate from an ornate, decorative rectangular fixture that hung from the centre of the room, revealing the surprisingly enticing contents. Straight ahead was an extra-large sized bath, complete with a shower nozzle at three intervals along the wall – it was closed off by a sliding glass door, which also encased a sturdy oak bench and several towel racks.
Trixie immediately found herself falling in love with the place as she silently pushed the door shut behind her. She trotted slowly over to a series of knobs and dials on the far wall of the bathroom, situated near one of the three shower heads. Reaching out with her magic, she experimentally turned a random dial three clicks to the right, yelping as a cold stream of water suddenly came crashing over her head, wetting her mane to the sides and front of her face.
Trixie cleared the mess of her mane from her eyes as she immediately turned the same dial several more clicks to the right, sighing instantly as the water’s temperature responded to her mental pleas to submit to her will. As the blue unicorn mare eyed the remainder of the controls, she found, with some clever experimentation (namely, dodging the new jets of water temporarily as not to be frozen stiff or scalded bare), Trixie found herself finally beginning to relax as she stood serenely under the hot, moist mist from the three shower heads.
With a bit of magic, Trixie levitated several randomly chosen bottles that lined the few shelves along the interior wall, inspecting the labels, looking for anything she might be the slightest bit familiar with. Finding that most of the labels were exclusively in Prench, Trixie suspected that either the purple unicorn knew what she was doing when it came to mane and fur care, or she was just a slave to current, fashionable trends.
“Eh… whatever works, I suppose,” Trixie said aloud, shrugging as she used her magic to place a few dollops of shampoo along her lithe, yet well-rounded frame and body. She fought the urge to moan slightly as she used her magic to manipulate the skin under her fur, magically massaging the dollops into a rich, foamy lather.
This feels wonderful… Trixie thought to herself, her eyes half lidded as her magic did its thing. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a hot shower like this. I could get used to staying here, if only for this magnificent setup…
As Trixie’s eyes closed on their own accord, her mind drifted to pleasant things, as pleasant as the waves of relief that coursed through her body, relaxing muscles and practically melting the stress of the past few hours into steamy, steamy oblivion.
Without realizing it at first, Trixie’s front left hoof began to stroke along the sides of her sensitive frame, something that always sent shivers down her spine, no matter if anypony else or just herself was doing it. But… she had always found that the former was preferable. It was curious, really – one of those things that a pony wouldn’t expect to remember, yet the brain somehow said that it was too important to be totally forgotten.
As Twilight pondered her now somewhat confusing musings, a little voice in the back of her head told her that Trixie was certainly taking her time.
Would it be rude of me to go up and check on her? Twilight thought to herself. Well, it would depend on how Trixie might react – for one, she might appreciate the concern Twilight would appear to be showing… on the other hoof, though, Trixie might react negatively and assume that Twilight was acting out of derision, or conspiratorially, or something to that clandestine effect.
Then again, this is technically my residence, and I do have a responsibility to remain aware of any guests I might entertain… it’s best to be in the safe side, I think, Twilight agreed with resolve.
Finishing up the final touches on what would soon be Trixie’s bedspread, Twilight Sparkle turned, trotted out of the room, and started towards the stairs.
