Just had some minor bruising which made typing difficult for a bit. It shouldn't have any effect on tomorrow's chapter. Chapter 10 “Thomas. Thomas!” I shake myself from my daze looking at my best friend who has concern on his face. “Marcus don’t shout man. You’re giving me a headache.” I begin to rub my head with my free hand. The pulsing of the music is not helping with my now developing headache. “Sorry man you were just out of it staring into space. What’s got you thinking so deeply?” He asked while sipping his beer. After regaining my senses I look around and see I’m still at the party we were throwing for our friends. “Nothing, just spaced out and had a weird dream. I thought I was in a colorful land of ponies. Ended up doing something dangerous accidentally and they told me I might die.” Marcus looks at me confused. “Damn dude, maybe you’ve had enough to drink tonight.” He takes my beer and chugs it. I look at him slightly annoyed. “I’m telling you, it was so real I thought I was really…” I pause, staring slack jawed as I see a larger pony with wings and a horn like twilight in the middle of the room. She's dark blue with a majestic flowing mane with patterns of the night sky in it. “Hey Marcus. Do you see what I’m seeing?” I point to the pony in the middle of the room, Marcus follows my finger but looks confused. “I don’t see anything there dude. Look you seem kind of down, want to finally tell Angie how you feel about her? Maybe that’ll snap you out of this. I’ll go get her.” Marcus walks off and as soon as he does, the mystery mare begins to approach me. As soon as she gets close she looks around and then speaks. “So you are the creature that has disrupted our world? I must say I was expecting something more… dangerous looking.” She said looking at me confused. “You talk? So what happened to me really wasn’t a dream if you are here.” She shakes her head sadly. “Unfortunately neither of us are here right now. This is simply a dream of yours. You are currently asleep in Twilight’s castle. I chuckle darkly. “So then, I really might die? That’s a shitty thing to hear right now.” She looks at me with a puzzled expression. “What do you mean? Why would you die?” I go about explaining what happened to me before I fell asleep and her expression darkens. “If what you say is true then you are in an extremely delicate situation. I won’t pretend to know the next steps but I’m certain Twilight and her friends will know what to do. Have faith in those you call friends and things will indeed turn out for the better.” She smiles softly at me. “Thanks, I guess. Well since this is a dream with no consequences would you care to join me for a drink? I feel like I need a solid twenty or so right now.” She shakes her head and giggles. “Unfortunately your friends have found you and are trying to rouse you. So we’ll have to postpone the festivities for a later date.” I look at her and chuckle. “Alright then I’ll hold you to it. My name is Thomas, what’s yours?” I extend my hand and she meets it happily. “You may call us Luna. It’s good to know you aren’t a threat to our ponies. I’ll tell my sister not to worry. And Thomas, please head us. Your friends here will help. Things will not be as bleak as they seem if you treasure them and keep them close. Now please, awaken and discuss your worries with them. As Luna begins to disappear I wake up surrounded by tons of colorful faces and eyes looking at me. I yawn as I get up. “Good evening everyone. Are you all ok? I say in a bit of a daze where I’m suddenly tackled by a pink blur who begins crying on me. “I’m so sorry you’re going through this! Your aunty Pinkie Pie is here so don’t you worry your little head about anything! I’ll make sure things are ok!” I laugh and hug Pinkie back as I start to tear up. “Thank you, I’ll hold you to that.” I say as I hug her tightly. “Ah don’t get it Twi. Didn’t Cozy Glow, Chrysalis, and Tirek use Discord’s magic with no problems? Why is Thomas struggling with a small portion of it?” Starlight looks at Applejack before going into lecture mode. “They did but they channeled his magic through Grogar’s bell. It was an artifact that could hold the majority of his magic. Think of it as an external Magic core. One that can be called upon to cast the magicks captured inside of it.” Fluttershy pipes in at this. “Then why don’t we use the bell to just take the magic out of Thomas?” At this Starlight just shakes her head. “Thomas’ core is already damaged from absorbing too much of Discord’s magic. If we try to remove it now it could detonate it. Twilight and I have been calculating and we believe if his magic core is to detonate it could cause a large enough explosion to engulf all of equestria. So we need to be extremely delicate in how to repair or remove his core.” I look to starlight trying my best to not look as worried as a living bomb can. “Oh is that all? I’m not sure why I was worried to begin with.” I reply, trying to keep myself calm. Starlight looks at my nervousness and tries to comfort me. Rainbow butts in and stares at me. “Hey don’t worry, we have like, the best magic ponies in all of equestria right here!” She points to Twilight and Starlight who both smile sheepishly. “With those two eggheads on the case you’ll be better faster than Celestia can raise the sun!” Rainbow says triumphantly. “Ok well what am I supposed to do in the meantime?” I ask tiptoeing around my room to sit back on the bed delicately. Twilight looks to me and explains a bit more. “Well luckily you don’t have to act like you’re an egg about to break. You can still go about your life normally. The only thing you have to be careful of is casting magic or having magic cast on you. If somepony casts magic on you, it will cause your magic core to fill up more past the brim causing more cracks. And if you cast any magic there is a chance if not controlled properly it could lead to you overworking your magic core which in turn will cause more cracks.” She looks at Starlight. “Starlight, I think finding a way to get Thomas home should fall secondary to this. I’ll look for ways to remove the magic from him safely or fix his magic core. In the meantime would you be willing to teach him how to control his magic?” Starlight nods. “You can count on me! I’ll make sure he doesn’t hurt himself!” Twilight smiles. “Thank you Starlight. I knew I could count on you. Now then girls. I think we’ve had quite a bit of excitement tonight. Let’s get some rest and come back in the morning to talk about our next steps.” Everyone nods and begins to file out. As I sit on my bed I try my best to keep my mind from moving a mile a minute but with all that happened today I truly cannot focus. Until I hear a knock on my door. “Come in.” I say, wondering if one of the girls forgot something in this room. As the doors open I see Starlight and Rainbow standing at the entrance. “Thomas, we both want to apologize for what happened today. Right Rainbow?” Starlight nudges Rainbow expectantly. “Uh, yeah. I’m sorry for making you take part in the prank, even if the last part was kinda on you…” Starlight hits Rainbow on the back of the head. “Ouch! I mean I’m sorry you are kind of… like a walking bomb now, my bad.” She chuckles sheepishly. “And I’m sorry for recommending Discord for this prank. I didn’t know he would do that to you and now because of my decision you must be struggling so much. I’m truly sorry for doing this to you.” Starlight stares at me with a genuinely apologetic look in her eyes. I motion for both of them to come closer and they do. As soon as they are within reach I pull them into a hug and start to cry. They just sit in my arms and let me cry until I couldn’t cry anymore. “Thank you both. But what happened was my choice and my choice alone. Neither of you have anything to apologize for.” As the minutes tick on in silence Rainbow awkwardly coughs and pulls aways. “Yeah, no problem… Just take care of yourself, ok?” She begins to head out. After a little bit longer Starlight breaks the hug as well. “Have a goodnight Thomas. I’ll start your training tomorrow ok? We’ll all get you through this.” She smiles and walks out. Feeling a bit better after crying, I decide to lay down on the bed and rest until tomorrow. Even though I don’t feel that tired I close my eyes anyway and slowly drift off. Chapter 1Author's Note This is the start to my first ever story. I've lurked long enough I feel so please enjoy the journey with me and enjoy! Chapter 1 “Ugh… My head.” I begin trying to nurse my hangover from last night reeling from the bright sunlight’s scorching rays as it tries its best to blind me. As I sit up I notice that I’m not in my room or anywhere close to my house. The queasy nature of my stomach causes me to vomit the remaining contents of last night. “How did I end up passing out in a field?” I gag a bit as I begin looking around. I try to get a gauge for my surroundings. The cool breeze and smell of clean air help to ease my head a bit as it continues to throb in part to the sun. “Welp, I have no idea where I am.” I sigh. “I guess it’s just going to be one of those days.” I get up and begin walking in a random direction. After walking for a while I notice the trees I’m walking around have some tantalizing and bright red looking apples. After noticing them my stomach begins to rumble. “First you get rid of the rest of my food then beg for more? Greedy stomach.” I begin to climb the tree and reach for an apple, as I do I hear a female voice behind me. “Hey! What are you doing stealing my friend’s apples?” I freeze mid pick not wanting to make any sudden movements as I slowly pull my hand away nervously. “I’m sorry miss I didn’t know this was a farm owned by someone. I just woke up in a field after drinking a lot last night. I still have a bit of a headache and am just trying to figure out where I am.” Still facing away I slowly descend from the tree. And once I get to the ground I hear a slight gasp. “What in equestria are you?” I get a bit confused as I start to turn around. “Equestria, what's that?” I fully turn around and get even more confused as I don’t see any people around. “Hello? Miss? Where did you go?” I scan my surroundings trying to find where the female voice went. “Down here” I hear a voice below me and look down. What I see surprises me as I see a small blue horse with large pink eyes and a rainbow mane staring up at me. I keep looking around near the small horse trying to see where the girl I heard is hiding. “Hey buster, I'm talking to you!” As I see it start to talk I freeze. “Did… did you just talk?” I look at the blue horse for confirmation. “Of course I just talked!” She said as her patience began to thin. “So what are you doing on my friend’s farm?” The blue horse was starting to get annoyed. “If I didn’t have such a shitty hangover threatening to break apart my skull I would think I’m still dreaming.” I laugh bitterly to myself. “Like I said, I meant no harm. I just woke up in a field after drinking too much last night at a party. I was just a bit hungry. I didn’t mean to steal anything, I promise. How much would an apple cost miss…?” I lead the question expecting her to respond with a name. “Dash, Rainbow Dash” She says still a bit wary “As for how much one would cost… she usually sells two for one bitt” as I’m pulling out my wallet I stop as she says that. “A bit? A bit of what?” I look at her confused and getting annoyed now by the constant throbbing in my head. Rainbow starts to get angry at my snippy remarks. “I said one bit for two but I meant two bits for one” Her eyes begin to narrow. Still confused and hurting from a massive headache I still have no idea what she’s talking about. “And I’m asking you, a bit of what?” I exasperate as I continue trying to be as cordial as possible but now failing. “Listen you… whatever you are. I’m telling you it’s two bits.” Rainbow gets into a more aggressive stance. “And I’m telling you I don’t like this bit you’re doing right now.” I look at her angrily. “I don’t have any bits right now, now get off my friend’s farm unless you want me to get rough!” Rainbow stares me down with fire in her eyes. “I’m talking about this whole ’who’s on first’ bit right now!” I begin to shout now and ball up my fists. “I don’t care who you are, but I’m telling you! I don’t have any bits!” At that she charges at me and slams into my chest. It feels like I’m hit by a freight train as I’m launched back cracking my head against the tree behind me. Once my head hits the tree I black out. “I think he’s coming to AJ” I hear Rainbow say. “You’re sayin you found him stealin mah apples Rainbow? “This is the second time in a row I’ve woken up with a splitting headache, I would not recommend it.” I try to sit up but feel pressure on my chest causing me to cry out in pain. “And there’s the crippling chest pain from my shattered ribs!” I shout and fall back onto the soft surface. “Stay right there monster! The rest of our friends are on their way now and once they arrive we’ll banish you to… well! Wherever you’re from!” I begin to wheeze. “Medical attention sounds preferable right now.” The massive headache and pain from the broken ribs burns me on the inside. “Rainbow it seems you did a number on this creature. Did you really have to be so rough?” I hear who I assume to be AJ speak. Having had enough of being left in the dark I finally open my eyes. I see what appears to be a cozy farmhouse and I look down seeing I’ve been laying down on a couch. In front of me is the blue terror and what appears to be another small horse but orange with blonde hair and freckles with emerald eyes. “Ow, did you really have to be so rough?” I ask Rainbow as I wince and slowly try to sit up. “You started it, monster! First you steal from my friend! Then you try to confuse me!” She huffs at me angrily. “And as payment I think you broke my ribs and gave me a concussion. Doesn’t seem very fair to me.” I bitterly reply as I try to get more comfortable. “Now now, I’m sure Rainbow is sorry for hurtin yah so much. Isn’t that right rainbow?” AJ looked to Rainbow who was still giving me the stink eye and grumbling. “Rainbow?” I heard AJ ask her in a more stern tone than before. “Yeah Yeah. I still have my eye on you monster.” Rainbow continues to stare at me. “Ok, I think introductions are in order. My name isn’t monster, it’s Thomas.” “Well howdy Thomas! Mah name is Applejack but all mah friends call me AJ!” She said while heading over to Rainbow and wrapping a hoof around her. “And this here is Rainbow Dash! I know she’s a bit rough around the edges but she usually means well and is always there for her friends!” At this mention just looks annoyed and like she would prefer to be anywhere else but here. “Well it’s a pleasure to meet you Applejack and sorry for trying to take an apple I truly meant no offense by it.” I try being cordial even through all the excruciating pain. “Ah it’s alright sugarcube. Tell yah what, after we get yah fixed up how about a tasty apple pie as an apology for mah friend here?” She smiles sincerely at me. “I’d like that a lot, thank you Applejack.” I smile back at her. I reach out to shake her extended hoof. As I finish I hear a gasp. “A NEW FRIEND!!!” I hear someone shout from the entrance to the room. I see a pink blur run across the room before jumping on me and my broken ribs. “Pinkie no!” I hear Applejack say as Rainbow laughs at my misfortune. I feel the new one which I assume is Pinkie land right on top of me further fracturing my ribs and making me see stars. “What a shitty morning.” I say as I black out for the second time in one day. Chapter 2Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter.Chapter 3Finally making it into the town proper Rainbow and I started to get uneasy stares from the locals as they saw us enter. “Wow rainbow everyone here sure knows how to give a warm welcome like you.” I say as I look around at all the ponies frozen in place staring at us. “It’s because ponies have trouble trusting new and strange creatures. I just wish my friends had more common sense.” Rainbow continues to grumble alongside me. “Listen Bluey, I am no threat to you. Hell, I don’t even want to be here! So how about we just focus on getting through the day, the sooner I don’t have to see your sorry ass the better.” I snidely remark as we keep walking down the road. “Hey! I’m not a donkey! I’m a pony!” Rainbow shouts back annoyed at me. “But it sounds good to me! The sooner I don’t have to look at you the better!” She harrumphs and keeps walking. “Oh my God, did you just harrumph?” I stop walking and begin to laugh. Rainbow freezes and looks back at me. “Wow, I had no idea I was with such a snooty pony, shall I grovel in your sight, your majesty? If it offends you, I can keep myself from your royal vision.” I say to her, still snickering. Rainbow scowls and flies up to my face. “Listen buster! I’m not a snooty pony that cares for fru-fru dresses or what fork goes where! So stop with that!” Rainbow shouts at me causing a scene in the middle of the street, other ponies who were once frozen staring at me try their best to clear the road as fast as they can whispering to each other. “Thanks, because of your outburst no one is staring at me anymore. Maybe you are good for something.” I say as I boop her snout to get her out of my face. She scrunches up and backs off. “Oh my gosh dude! You are so annoying! Keep those things away from me!” She points a hoof at my hands. “First off, these are called hands and the tips are called fingers.” I raise my hands and wiggle my fingers at her. “Secondly, every close interaction has been brought on by you getting in my bubble. If you don’t want me to absolutely destroy you in wrestling or boop you then please stay out of my bubble.” I remark while walking. “Whatever, I totally kicked your flank when we wrestled and would have totally kicked you outta here if I didn’t go easy on you for Twilight’s sake. Anyway we’re here at our first stop.” Rainbow points at a gingerbread building that we are approaching. “Hm, and where did you take me first?” I ask her as we enter the building. “This is Sugarcube Corner, the best pastry shop in all of ponyville. And pinkie works here, I figured I could have you work with her a bit so I can go practice.” “Wow, pawning off the task assigned to you by the princess herself.” I look at her with mock shock. “Whatever will I do without the oh so great Rainbow Dash by my side, maybe I’ll cry. Not from sorrow but from joy.” “Yeah? Well-“ Rainbow stops at the counter and stares at it. I look up from her and see what she’s looking at. I see a balloon replica of what appears to be the pink one I met briefly at the farmhouse. Next to it is a tape that says for us to play it. Rainbow pushes the play button. “Hi Rainbow! Hi Thomas! I’m sorry I’m not there right now to greet you both but I am busy working on… a thing and won’t be in all day! So if you have any orders please ask my understudy here!“ I look at the balloon pony then to Rainbow. “She knows that’s a balloon right?” “Oh silly! Of course I know it’s a balloon! But that doesn’t mean it can’t help out!” I hear the tape respond which causes me to stop and look at Rainbow with a bit of fear in my eyes. “Did… did the tape. Just respond to me?” “Yeah, that’s just Pinkie. She does things like this. Watch.” Rainbow dash turns to the balloon and orders. “Can I get a Chewy Cherry Cupcake please?” Rainbow Dash sighs. “Thomas, you want anything?” I blink in surprise. “You’re getting me some food?” I ask, wondering what game she’s playing and looking at her with suspicion. “You said you were hungry and haven’t eaten anything yet right? We kinda just left before Applejack could feed you.” Not wanting to look a gift pony in the mouth I decide to order. “In that case I’ll take a simple cinnamon roll please.” Talking to the Pinkie clone. “Roger dodger! One Chewy Cherry Cupcake and a cinnamon roll! You’ll find your treats on table 4! And don’t worry Dashie as thanks for all your hard work in showing Thomas around they’re no charge!” “Well I don’t know if I should be happy or horrified at this service.” I say as we walk to the table. “That’s just Pinkie, none of us question it. Twilight tried to once… it didn’t end well for her.” We both sit down and begin to eat. “Yeah I can totally see that. I’m getting a headache just from this encounter, I can’t imagine what Twilight went through.” I say as I eye the treat in front of me as though it was poisoned. “Dude, just eat it. There’s nothing wrong with it. Besides it might be one of the best pastries you’ve ever eaten. “Wow! It is good!” I say as I bite into the cinnamon roll. It’s a perfect blend of moist, sweet, and creamy. “Yup Pinkie is one of the best bakers in all of equestria I’d say. We’re really lucky to have her here.” Rainbow says while shoving the rest of the cupcake in her mouth. “Man, we should have gotten some drinks to wash these down I guess.” I say laughing at Rainbow whose cheeks are puffed out like a chipmunk’s. My laughing stops when I hear a ripping sound coming from above us, I look up and see another tape fall onto our table. “No fucking way.” I say blinking in disbelief. Out of curiosity and a bit of fear as to what might happen to me if I don’t. I push the play button. “And here are your drinks! Two apple juices! I hope you both enjoy!” I look around and see a tray with balloons attached to it slowly float to our table before gracefully landing with two glasses of apple juice on it. “Rainbow I’m scared.” I say looking at the drink. I hear laughing from the other side of the table. “Well Pinkie might not have been here to take you off my hooves but I’m still glad we came to see that priceless look on your face!” She continues to laugh then the tape picks back up. “Dashie it’s not nice to laugh at new friends!” Rainbow stops laughing and also stares at the tape. “Now I hope the two of you have a great Day! And see you later!” We both get up from our chairs and quickly make our way out. After we clear the building I feel someone staring at me. I turn around and see another Pinkie balloon staring at me from the window. I shudder and follow Rainbow on to our next stop. Chapter 4“Stop laughing. It isn’t funny.” I say while trying to keep as stoic of an expression on my face as I can. “How can I not laugh? You’re scared of one of the nicest ponies I know?” Rainbow continues to laugh as she walks alongside me. “It’s just not natural! Whatever happened there isn’t possible!” I say indignantly. “No one should be able to predict something so specifically! It’s creepy!” I shudder again remembering the pink balloon staring at me. “Awww is the widdle monster all scared?” Rainbow replies in a childish tone in between snickering. “For the last time, I’m not a monster.” I grumble as we walk, not having the energy right now to fight. “Yeah, yeah. Anyway we’re here.” She stops in front of what looks like a giant cake with pony mannequins around it like a carousel. “My friend Rarity lives here, she’s a fashion designer who makes a lot of frilly and fru-fru dresses.” Rainbow said as we went up to the door and knocked. “Oh don’t be like that, I’m sure you look simply adorable in a nice dress. Why I’m positive you are simply the bell of the ball!” I laugh at her. “Laugh it up pal, we’ll see how easy you laugh knocked out on the ground!” Before another fight is able to start the door opens and we are greeted by a white unicorn who smiles warmly at us. “Rainbow! Thomas! Come in my dears!” She motions for us to enter and we head in. I look around and notice mannequins with partially completed outfits on them and other tools just strewn about. “Wow Rarity this place is amazing. It’s always awesome seeing someone’s passion.” I say with a smile on my face. “Why thank you darling. Honestly, being able to do what I love everyday helps me feel so fulfilled.” Rarity sighs happily. “I’m very happy for you Rarity. I wish I knew what made me feel that way but I’m still looking for my purpose.” I smile and follow rarity. Rainbow stays by the door. “Welp looks like you got things from here Rarity. I'm going to go practice some stunts for a bit. I’ll pick up Thomas later and show him Fluttershy’s place.“ Before Rarity could give her a response, Rainbow flew out the door and was gone. At this I sighed happily and smiled. “Finally free from her. Now my day has suddenly gotten so much brighter.” I begin to happily whistle as I follow Rarity. Once in the kitchen she motions for me to sit down. I sit at the table and continue our conversation as she begins work on some tea. “Thomas. Rainbow might be a bit… boorish but she means well. And she is a great pony to have as a friend.” She heads over to the table with the tea and joins me. “She’s just a bit protective of her friends. Celestia knows we’ve had our fair share of dangerous creatures that we’ve had to fight.” I look at her as she begins to pour the tea. “Wait, you have had to fight some dangerous creatures? No offense Rarity but you don’t seem like the monster fighting type.” I chuckle a bit as I try the tea. Rarity giggles as well. “No, I suppose I don’t seem that way. But that’s the thing about ponies darling. What we are under the surface can surprise you.” She winks and takes a sip of her tea. I digest what she’s implying about Rainbow. “Listen Rarity, you seem like a very nice pony. But I don’t think Rainbow and I will ever be friends. She and I go together like oil and water.” When I say this Rarity just laughs. “That may be true darling, but a fresh salad goes simply splendidly with olive oil.” She winks at me and smiles, continuing to sip her tea. I just stare at her incredulously. “Sorry Rarity, I just don’t see what you’re talking about. We’re both at each other's throats. And personally I don’t think either of us want to be friends.” I finish my cup of tea and set it back down. “Yes well, it’s simply food for thought darling. Now then onto other more important matters.” She says, eyeing me. “I’ve noticed you are wearing an approximation for what a proper outfit is.” She remarks about my dirty green polo and jeans. “It would be a crime if you didn’t allow me to make you something more suitable for you.” She said with pleading eyes. “I’m sorry Rarity, I don’t think my money is worth much here. In fact it’s the whole reason Rainbow and I started to fight.“ Rarity blinks in surprise. “Whatever do you mean darling?” “Well she wouldn’t accept my money for apples and said I need to pay a bit of something. She wouldn’t tell me what though and then hit me.” Rarity looked at me and brought her hoof to her face. “Darling, the name of the currency here is called bits.” At this revelation I blink. “So you’re telling me all my trouble with her started because I didn’t understand the currency?” I sigh and close my eyes. “Well this sucks. It would have made my life a whole lot easier if I knew that then.” Rarity just giggles again and gets off of the chair. “Yes well, nothing about the past we can change so let’s look towards a brighter future. Now come along Thomas, your future has you in a brand new outfit that will really wow everyone! And don’t worry about paying for this, I like a challenge and that will be enough payment for me!” I get up and follow Rarity to her workshop. “Now please excuse the mess but this keeps the creative juices flowing as it were. If you can just stand still I’ll get your measurements and begin work on your outfit at once!” Rarity begins the effort of measuring me for my new outfit using her unicorn magic. “You know, that still amazes me. Magic was always a fairy tale where I’m from so seeing you guys able to use it with ease is so cool.” I say, trying to keep as still as possible for her. “Oh this magic is just simple levitation magic. Most unicorns are able to do at least this much. You should see Twilight, she has a spell for pretty much every occasion. She’s truly amazing when it comes to spellcasting.” The gears in my head start to turn. “Hey Rarity, do you know any sleep spells?” I ask as she finishes measuring me. “I did learn one for nights that I have trouble going to sleep. Why do you ask?” She looks at me confused. At this comment a wicked grin appears on my face. “How would you feel about helping me pull a prank on Rainbow?” I ask in sadistic glee as the plan begins to form in my mind and we get to work. “Hello? Rarity? Thomas? Are you guys here?” Rainbow asks while entering into the boutique all the lights off. “Seriously guys where are you?” She enters further in and as she does the door slams behind her. She quickly turns around and sees her escape has been blocked off. “Guys? What’s going on?” She says with less certainty in her voice as she starts to get nervous. She walks past the pony mannequins in the main room and fails to notice that one of them moves off its podium. Slowly sneaking up it quickly ignites its horn and whispers. “Sleep.” At this, Rainbow’s eyes flutter and she collapses on the floor. After that happens I turn the lights back on and cackle maniacally. “Now my dear Rarity. It is time for our fun to begin.” I hear Rarity squeal in delight as I pick up Rainbow and we take her deeper into our lair. After we put the finishing touches on Rainbow finally wakes up, “Huh? Where am I? What’s going on?” She opens her eyes groggily and looks around. She gets up and as soon as she stands a bright flash blinds her eyes and she hears laughing. “And this is one for the scrapbook.” I say laughing and waving the picture around before putting it in my pocket. After recovering from the temporary blinding Rainbow looks around and sees that she is wearing a nice dress that is similar in style to a cloud with rainbow patterns swirling around it. She runs to a mirror and sees her mane done up in a bun with some makeup put on her eyes and lips. Realizing what happened her eyes narrow and burn with rage. “I’m gonna get you for this!” She shouts trying to fly in the dress to get to me but failing. Laughing I hand Rarity the camera back. “Thank you for a lovely time Rarity but I really must run, for I have other appointments to keep.” I say in a fake posh accent as I run to the exit. “Thank you for our chat darling. I hope Rainbow doesn’t hurt you too badly!” I hear Rarity call out to me as I run out the door. I hear screaming behind me as a colorful cloud jumps out of the door and tackles me to the ground, all the while I’m laughing hysterically and can’t stop. “I’m gonna get you for this!” Rainbow shouts at me. “Oh but my dear, that isn't very ladylike. Perhaps we need to incorporate proper lessons in your routine as well.” I say mockingly as she’s laying on top of me. At this I feel something connect to my head and after seeing stars I recover a bit and push Rainbow off me. I feel my head where she hit me and feel blood. “Great, I dress you up and you cause me harm. Great payback there.” I spit out bitterly. “Hey you were the one that started this! But you’re right, that was pretty uncool.” Rainbow deflates a bit. But quickly perks up. “Luckily the last stop on our tour has us going to Fluttershy’s. She’s great with all sorts of creatures so I’m sure she can patch you up! Let’s go.” Rainbow heads off towards the outskirts of town and I follow behind. Chapter 5Walking along the dirt road keeping pressure on the back of my head I notice more ponies going out and enjoying their days. But whenever we pass by they freeze mouth agape. “It seems the ponies are already warming up to me.” I say with a snarky comment, “It’s because you’re still new. Luckily they aren’t panicking because they have one of the greatest heroes of equestria watching over you!” Rainbow boasts. “Ah so I’m a terrifying monster to everyone. Got it.” I keep moving forward towards the end of the road until Rainbow and I arrive at a quaint little cottage near a forest. “Woah this place is like something out of a fantasy book.” I say amazed as I take in the scenery. “Yeah this is Fluttershy’s place. She does her best to care for every creature in need. I’m sure she can help with that small injury.” She says as we walk up the steps. Once we get to the door Rainbow knocks. Eventually the door opens and we see the yellow Pegasus from this morning staring at us. Her mouth is agape. “Hey Fluttershy. It’s ok you don’t need to be scared of him, you met him at AJ’s this morning remember?” Rainbow says as she steps over to greet her friend. “Oh. Um… I wasn’t surprised because of him. I was sort of more surprised because of you.” Rainbow looks at her confused for a second before her face turns beer red as she realizes she walked all throughout town in the outfit and makeup Rarity and I put her in. I begin to laugh. “Maybe the ponies weren’t staring at me but the pretty pony princess that was walking through town!” Rainbow looks at me angrily before taking the dress off and running to a stream to wash the makeup off and fix her mane. After she finishes she rushes to me and stares me down with a scowl. “Be careful buster or else I’ll buck you-“ Before Rainbow can finish I cut her off. “Until I bleed? Because you already did that.” I say with a deadpan expression. After I say this I hear a faint gasp followed by the colors yellow and pink filling my vision. “Oh my goodness! Are you hurt? Where does it hurt? How bad does it hurt? Rainbow! How could you hurt this creature? We don’t know anything about him!” She turns to Rainbow and has a stern look on her face. “Rainbow Dash! You better apologize for hurting him!” Rainbow looks a bit sheepish under Fluttershy’s gaze and she slowly turns to me and mumbles. “I’m sorry for hurting you. Even if you deserved it.” Fluttershy glares at Rainbow. “No one deserves to be hurt! Apologize like you mean it!” At this Rainbow winces and sighs. “Look dude, I’m sorry for hurting you. It’s just frilly things… they aren't really my style, and it was embarrassing. Looking back it was a pretty good prank though.” Rainbow says with a bit more sincerity this time. “Well thanks for acknowledging it Rainbow. Wanted to pay you back for how coldly you’ve been treating me today.” At this remark I can almost see an apologetic look in her eye before it quickly turns back into the annoyed one I’ve come to know. Fluttershy smiles. “There isn’t that better? Now why don’t you both come in and I’ll take a look at the wound.” Rainbow and I are both ushered into Fluttershy’s cottage where she motions for me to sit on the couch as she goes to get a first aid kit, After she returns she begins to clean and look at my head. “It looks like only skin was broken, no fractures so that’s good.” Fluttershy looks to Rainbow sternly “You’re very lucky that it’s a minor injury. It could have been so much worse.” She finishes cleaning and wrapping it up. “There. All better. Now no more roughhousing while it heals ok Thomas?” She looks at me with blessing eyes. “Ugh ok ok. Just don’t use those big eyes on me. But it’s not like it’s my fault, Rainbow always starts them!” I look at Rainbow with annoyance. “Only because you keep asking for it.” Rainbow says under her breath. “I don’t care who starts them I don’t want any more fights while you’re recovering mister!” Fluttershy looks at me with a rough stare. “Yes ma’am.” I say to get her to stop staring at me. “Good!” Fluttershy retreats and gives me a warm smile, “Now then what can I do for you both?” Fluttershy asks in a more gentle tone. “Rainbow was just giving me a tour of the town and she said the last stop was your cottage.” Rainbow nods in agreement. “Yeah I figure after we finish here the three of us can head to Twilight’s castle and see what the next steps to getting Thomas home to wherever he’s from.” Rainbow says as she stretches a bit. I look out the window and see the sun is already starting to head towards the horizon. “Huh I guess it’s been a busy day. Sun’s already setting.” Rainbow and Fluttershy look out the window. “Alright, I guess we should start heading over to Twilight’s. Let’s try and get there quickly guys.” I look over to Rainbow with a smug look on my face. “Don’t you mean let’s… Dash?” I strike a lame pose while Rainbow just stares at me. “It would have been a little cooler if I had some shades.” I say sighing. “Yeah dude nothing could make that bad pun cool.” Rainbow says as she snickers. I huff and pout. “No one ever understands my comedic genius.” I feel a hoof gently pat my back. “Um, I didn’t think it was that bad.” I looked at Fluttershy and sighed. “Patronizing me just makes me feel worse.” I laugh. “Alright, well let’s go ahead and head out. We should be able to make it to the castle by the time the sun sets.” Rainbow says as she steps to open the door. “Come on slowpoke, seriously it’s like you do everything you can to annoy me!” She looks at me with a small smirk on her face. “Hey just you wait! I’m saving my super awesome techniques and abilities for later! Unless you want me to overshadow you right now?” I ask her jokingly. “Nah you can just stay your lame self. I got enough coolness for both of us right now.” Rainbow says looking at me with a smug look on her face. “If it makes you feel better Thomas. I think you’re cool.” I look down and see fluttershy looking up at me with a warm smile. “Thanks Flutters I appreciate that.” I ruffle her mane as we all start heading over to Twilight’s castle. Chapter 6“Not gonna lie guys. Today has been a hell of a day for me.” I say trudging along behind Rainbow and Fluttershy. “Jeez, why are you such a wuss?” Rainbow asks while snickering to herself. Fluttershy looks at Rainbow and hits her on the back of her head with a wing. “None of that now, he’s tired and you promised no more fighting for a while.” Rainbow just groans and rolls her eyes. “I’m not laying a hoof on him! I’m just poking fun is all.” Rainbow turns to me and sticks out her tongue which promptly gets her another hit with a wing. I chuckle at this while we walk. “Looks like the mighty Rainbow can be stopped by some soft feathers.” I laugh but quickly shut myself up after seeing Fluttershy eye me. When I stop Fluttershy smiles. “Thank you. Now then I want both of you to be on your best behavior when talking with Twilight. We need to all put our heads together to find out how to get Thomas home.” Rainbow looks back at me and nods her head. “Yeah the sooner we get him home the better.” Fluttershy glares at Rainbow who winces. “I meant because he wants to go home. Not because I want him gone.” Rainbow chuckles sheepishly. “Well regardless, let’s hurry up to the castle and talk with Twilight then.” I say as we continue down the road until eventually reaching the crystal castle. “Woah, Twilight lives here? It’s massive.” I say looking up and taking in the massive structure. Rainbow beams. “Yup this is where my good friend Twilight the princess of friendship lives.” At this I stare at Rainbow dumbfounded and start to laugh. “How is she the princess of a concept? That’s so ridiculous. Does that mean I have a chance to become the king of puns and get my own castle? Oh! Maybe it will be made to look like a cat! Get it? A cat-sle.” I laugh at my own dumb joke but Rainbow looks annoyed at me. “How do you become a pain in my flank so easily?” Rainbow asked me while groaning. “Call it talent but between you and me it takes years to get this good.” I wink at her and chuckle. As we get to the castle I open the door and look inside. “Did Twilight forget to pay the electric bill? Why is it so dark?” I say to Rainbow and Fluttershy as we enter. They both get a knowing look on their faces and laugh. I freeze as the door closes behind us engulfing us in darkness. Suddenly the entrance is illuminated and I hear a large group shout. “Surprise!” They all say and I look seeing a bunch of ponies smiling at me. I stare at them in shock. “Uh what is going on?” I look around confused and see it. The demon from my nightmares. The Pinkie balloon staring me down. I scream a less than manly scream as I see it take up my vision. Rainbow dash falls over laughing at me as I try to recuperate. I cough and clear my throat. “I wasn’t scared. I was simply startled.” I said glowering at Rainbow who was still on the ground laughing. She wiped a tear from her eye and got back up. “Keep telling yourself that. Glad to know the dangerous monster is so scared of a widdle pink balloon pony.” A lot of ponies laugh at this comment and I just get angry, my cheeks flushed red from embarrassment. I step out the front entrance and just head in a random direction. I stop after a bit of walking on a nice hill with a clear view of the night sky. I decide to lay down in the cool grass and look at the stars to calm down. “This is all just a dream, nothing about this makes sense. It can’t be real, none of this is real.” I keep chanting to myself as though hoping that saying it will cause me to wake up in my own bed. I hear soft hoofsteps approach as I keep chanting to myself. “Hey you ok dude?” I hear the familiar scratchy voice of Rainbow approach. “Look I’m sorry for laughing at you… even if it was really funny and you totally deserved it.” I sigh and sit up. “It’s not just that Rainbow. It’s all of this, everything that’s happened here so far. It all feels so real but there is no way in hell this is real. I’m either sleeping, in a coma, slowly dying, or insane at this point. Any one of those options makes more sense than what’s happening now. I know I’ve been playing it cool all day but it’s been constantly eating away at me and I think this mess is finally hitting me.” I say slowly, my eyes not leaving the night sky. “Well I don’t know about you but I feel pretty real, and I’m sure this-” Rainbow hits me on my side. “Feels real too.” She says with a snarky smile on her face. “Ow yeah that feels pretty real.” I say rubbing my arm and staring at her annoyed now. “Exactly! So stop moping around and come join us back inside the castle for your party. Pinkie spent all day planning it for you. The least you could do is come and have some free food. Even if you don’t feel like talking to anypony that’s fine. But come enjoy the party my friend made for you..” She looks at me expectantly. I stand up and pop my back while stretching. “Fine you win, I’ll go to the party.” I say and start heading back to the castle. “Good I’m not going to have you mope around when there is such a fun party happening for you so close by.” Rainbow heads back alongside me. As we enter the castle again all the ponies stop what they were doing and stare. The awkward air is thick as I stare back unsure what to do or say when suddenly Rainbow steps up and speaks. “Alright everypony I brought back the moper. Now then let’s party!” She says, pumping her hoof in the air. Everyone cheers and goes back to doing what they were before we entered. Pinkie walks up to us with an apologetic look on her. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you upset. I just thought it would be funny if you saw another Pinkie balloon and thought it was alive.” She says with a glum look on her face. I kneel down and smile at her. “Hey. It’s ok. I know you didn’t mean anything rude by it. Besides you aren’t the most annoying pony I’ve met. That honor goes to the blue wonder over here.” I say motioning to Rainbow who looks at me annoyed. “Hey I dragged your mopey flank back in here for a fun time. Don’t make me regret it!” She huffs. I simply chuckle and ruffle her mane as she stares daggers into me. “Yeah I know you did. So let’s wait until after the party to go back to fighting. Truce?” I say extending a hand. Rainbow looks at it as though it’s hiding a secret weapon to attack her with before looking into my eyes for any deception. “Truce.” She finally says, shaking my hand with her hoof. After we do this pinkie cheers. “Ooooh finally you two will be getting along! That makes me so super duper happy!” Pinkie smiles at both of us. “Alright Thomas! Enjoy your party! I’m going to the dance floor to cut a rug!” Pinkie zooms off to the dance floor where I see her pull out a rug and a pair of scissors lost in deep concentration. “Is she always like this?” I look to Rainbow with growing concern on my face. She just looks over at her friend and laughs. “Yeah, that’s just Pinkie Pie. Like I said, don’t try to understand her. You’ll just get hurt.” As Rainbow explains this again I see Twilight approach us. “Good evening you two! So Thomas, I figured by the time this party finishes it’ll be late so we can discuss the steps to get you home more tomorrow morning. In the meantime I hope you enjoy your party!” Twilight smile endearingly and heads back into the crowd of ponies to mingle. “Well since this party is in full swing, what say you and I have some fun Rainbow?” She looks at me eyebrow raised. “What did you have in mind?” She asks. “Oh simple, I was thinking you and I play a little blackjack. I’m sure there’s a deck of cards here somewhere. If I win you have to wear that dress in full makeup and mane style all day. And you have to tell ponies who ask why it’s because you wanted to feel pretty.” I smile. Wicked grin at her. Rainbow looks at me with a determined look. “Yeah well, when I win you have to admit I’m the best there is and do whatever I tell you all day tomorrow.“ Rainbow returns my grin. “Ooh! And since I’m going to be dealer if I win, you both have to do the punishments!” Pinkie said dressed in dealer garb and shuffling a deck between her hooves. I look at her strangely for just a second but then shake my head, ignoring the thought. “So Rainbow? You ready to do this?” I say with a confident smirk. She returns it and looks at me firmly. “You know it! You’re so going down! Ok Pinkie! Deal is in!” Pinkie giggles and begins to deal. “Hey Rainbow.” I say with a bit of uncertainty. “What’s up?” She says, staring at her cards. “Though I hate to say it. Thanks for bringing me back to the party. This is fun.” I smile as I grab my cards. She looks at me with a small smile. “Of course, I’m not gonna see Pinkie sad after she did all this for you ya doof. Be glad I promised Fluttershy no fighting otherwise I really would have dragged you back. Hit me Pinkie.” A card is sent to Rainbow. I look at my cards and see I have twenty right now. “You know, Rainbow. That’s how I ended up here to begin with. I was at a party before this all started. I’ll stay Pinkie.” Pinkie nods and looks at Rainbow. “Hit me Pinkie.” Pinkie sends a card to Rainbow who looks at her hand and groans. “So you were basically partying and ended up here? I can see why you don’t want to accept this all as real then. I’ll stay Pinkie.” “Alright you two go ahead and show your cards!” Rainbow flips her cards over and I see she got 22 and busted over. I laughed and showed her my cards. “Bam! Twenty! Read 'em and weep!” Pinkie shushes me And begins to show the dealer’s hand. “Twenty-one! You both lose!” I stare at the cards in shock while Rainbow lets out a sigh of relief. “At least I won’t be the only one embarrassed tomorrow.” Rainbow laughs. “Well a deal is a deal. Alright tomorrow after I talk with twilight and you meet with Rarity. When we meet up I’ll do whatever the pretty pony princess desires.” I snicker a bit. Rainbow scowls for a bit before it changes into a devious smile. “I look forward to it Thomas.” She says as she heads to the exit since the party is winding down. “Wait, you seem very calm right now. What do you have planned?” I asked as she continued to walk to the door ignoring me. “Pinkie, be honest with me. Will I survive tomorrow?” Pinkie giggles and bounces away while calling back. “Silly Thomas, I can't see the future.” I look at her dumbstruck. “Bullshit.” I say to myself as I yawn. “Now to find the guest room here.” I say glancing around at the empty corridors. I sigh and start opening doors at random. Chapter 7I felt something prod my cheek. I just grumble and curl up tighter. “What are you doing out here?” I hear a voice I haven’t heard before say to me. I just take one of my hands and try to shoo the offending voice away so I can sleep. “Leave, it’s too early to wake up.” I groan. “Well I just figured sleeping out in a hallway wasn’t the best place for rest.” The voice responds. At this I open my eyes a bit and look around. I notice that I’m indeed sleeping in a hallway. I look to the voice and see a pink unicorn with a purple mane and light blue highlights. She’s staring at me confused. “So you are the creature that the party was for last night right?” She asks while continuing to look over me. “Yeah that’s me. Though if I’m honest I was hoping all this was a dream.” I stand up and look at the curious unicorn. “My name’s Thomas. It’s nice to meet you.” I stick out my hand for her to shake. “Pleasure, my name is Starlight Glimmer.” She returns the gesture and we shake. “So Starlight, what can I do for you this fine morning?” I ask as I pop my back. “Well Twilight wanted me to come and get you to discuss something important. She tried getting you from the guest bedroom but when she didn’t find you, asked me to search the castle.” “Yeah sorry I couldn’t really find my way around. This place is like a maze.” I say as I begin to follow Starlight. When she hears this she laughs. “Don’t I know it. I had the same problem when I first started living here.” “Oh? When was that?” I ask. “A couple of years ago. I started living here after… a thing.” She says cryptically. “A thing?” I repeat, looking at her eyebrow raised. She turns and smiles at me sheepishly. “Yup! A thing! Anyway let’s move quickly, we have to see what Twilight wants.” We pick up our pace and head to where I assume Twilight is. Eventually we arrive to a giant library which pulls a massive grin on my face. “Woah this place is amazing Starlight! I could get lost in here for weeks just reading!” Starlight laughs and rolls her eyes. “You really sound like Twilight. She practically lives here when it comes to research and looking for answers in magic.” At this my eyes light up. “Wait. There are books on magic here?!” I say excitedly. “Actual magic tomes that explain and describe different magical attributes.” At this point I’m nearly bouncing as I explore the room. Starlight looks a bit concerned. “Oh no, not another one of us.” She says to herself. “Hello again Starlight. What do you mean by another one?” Starlight turns to see Twilight entering the library. “Oh another book and magic lover.” She points her hoof at me who’s too busy excitedly perusing the different tomes to notice. Seeing me and my reaction gets Twilight excited as she rushes over and begins asking me questions as I scramble around like a kid in a candy store. “Good morning Thomas! I was looking for you all morning! Are you curious about any specific type of magic or well know magician? I’d be more than happy to help you find the perfect book. I stop bouncing and turn around with a very serious expression on my face as I stare Twilight down. “I want books on everything.” At this statement Twilight’s eyes light up and she squees as a massive grin breaks out on her face. “Well if you want to know everything we’ll have to start with the basics. “Mystic Magicks and You” might be a good jumping off point, and it’s one of my personal favorites!” Twilight levitates the book off the shelf and gives it to me. As Twilight and I begin to excitedly discuss the library Starlight coughs and clears her throat which gets us both to stop and look at her. “As much as I’m sure you’re excited to have a new study buddy. Didn’t you want to talk with Thomas about something?” At this Twilight snaps out of it and giggles to herself. “I suppose you’re right. Maybe later we can talk about this.” Twilight looks to me and motions for me to sit in a chair. I follow and sit down. “Now, Thomas since we don’t know where you came from or how. Finding a way to send you back will take some time. In the meantime I wanted to let you know you are welcome to stay here in the castle and feel free to use this library as you see fit. When I’m not researching ways to get you home I’d be more than happy to study magic with you!” Twilight smiles at me. “So there is no current way to get me home?” I ask dejectedly. “I’m sorry there really isn’t. I need to research the how and why first before I can come up with a solution.” Twilight smiles kindly at me. “But in the meantime you are welcome here as a guest and I’m positive you will make new friends here too!” I look at her and give her a sad smile. “I appreciate that Twilight. Thank you for your hospitality. I guess I might as well get comfortable if I’m going to be here for a while.” Twilight nods and looks to Starlight. “Starlight would you mind showing Thomas the guest bedroom and help him begin his magic studies?” “Sure Twilight, I’d be happy to. Starlight smiles and begins to lead me out of the library. I thank Twilight again and begin to follow. “Even though I’m stuck here for the time being. I get to study real magic! It’s always been a dream of mine to be a wizard!” Starlight looks to me and smiles. “Well I’ll do my best to help you achieve this dream of yours. And I’m sure Twilight would love to teach a new species about the subject as well as learn more about you.” After a bit of walking we finally arrived at the guest room. “Alright, here we are! This will be your room for the time being. Now then before we begin let’s see if you are actually able to cast magic first. All creatures have something called a magic core. It’s what allows all creatures to cast and use magic. I’m going to use a spell to see if you have one and what type of magic you can cast. Are you ready?” She asks me. I nod excitedly. “Hit me Starlight!” She nods and begins to cast the spell. I feel myself enveloped in Starlight’s magic. As she focuses on the spell I see a look of confusion, then concern wash over her. After she finishes she looks at me nervously. “So. I finished my analysis and I was able to locate your magic core. But it was empty.” She said, looking at me. A look of disappointment washed over me as I began to look sad. “However.” She continues “After looking at your empty core for a bit I noticed something. The longer I cast the observing spell on you I noticed that your core began to fill up. With traces of my magic.” She says with worry in her voice. “It appears you can siphon some magic from what creatures use on you which then fills your core. Almost like a magic vampony.” She says, looking at me. “So what you’re saying is I can cast magic?” I ask her hopefully. “I don’t know Thomas, I’ve never seen anything like this before. We’ll have to run some tests to see anything conclusive. When would you like to start? “Right now!” I say excitedly. Suddenly I see the guest room door swing wide open with a very angry Rainbow in a frilly dress and makeup staring me down. “You!” She shouts, pointing a hoof at me. “You were supposed to meet me at Rarity’s hours ago! What have you been doing!?” She says angrily. “Sorry Rainbow, I guess I lost track of time. But guess what! I might be able to use magic!” I say excitedly. She just looks at me annoyed. “I don’t care. Right now you are my servant for the day! You agreed to do anything I say, remember?” “Man, I wanted to learn magic.” I pout. Starlight looks at me and smiles. “Well you are working on improving your friendship with Rainbow Dash. And I know this is going to sound cheesy and ridiculous but Friendship is a powerful magic. I should know.” I look at her with a deadpan expression. “Believe me I know how it sounds but it’s the truth.” Starlight laughs. “Tell you what, how about I tag along to measure your magic intake to figure out how it works? That way we can get right into the greens and potatoes of magic later?” Hearing the difference in expressions I laugh a bit. “Ok Starlight, sounds like a plan. Is that ok with you Rainbow?” I ask her. “Sure, just keep in mind she’ll be watching you do some embarrassing stuff.” Rainbow cackles. “Alright then it’s settled. Lead the way Rainbow.” I say and all three of us head out of the castle. Chapter 8“So what exactly are we doing here?” I look at the lake. “I already told you, it’s the start of your punishment.” Rainbow says with a smile on her face. “Ok Rainbow. Let’s go ahead and get this over with. I want to learn more about magic so the sooner we get this over with, the better.” Rainbow just rolls her eyes and frowns. “Jeez, not another egghead. What is it with everypony I know wanting to read rather than experience life.” I huff back. “Look I’m not usually one for reading but magic was always a fantasy where I’m from. So being told magic is real and that I might even be able to possibly cast it. How could I not get excited about that?” I say with enthusiasm. “Now let’s just remember Thomas, we don’t know if it’s possible for you to use magic like a unicorn. We’ll have to experiment and study your reactions to different magical stimuli.” Rainbow begins to snore. I poke her to wake her up. “Guh! Not second place!” She shouts before realizing she’s by the lake and sheepishly smiles. “Heh, whoops.” I just look at her with a smirk on my face which causes her to go back to her usually annoyed expression. “Alright! Let’s get to the reason we are here. You!” She points a hoof at me. “My first command is a simple one. Don’t let these balloons hit the water.” Rainbow began to hurl balloons at the water causing me to dive to hit them back. At first it wasn’t so bad. Rainbow would send a balloon and I would knock it back. Cockily I laughed. “Is that all you got you walking blueberry?” When Rainbow heard this she began to send more balloons my way. Suddenly as I gaze up I see twenty balloons heading my way. I try my best as I flail around but only hit about seven of them back. I lay in the shallow water gasping and soaked from head to toe by the water. I hear Rainbow laughing. “You’re gonna have to try a lot harder to knock back the balloons. I just grumble and get out of the water. “Starlight, would you mind drying me off?” She nods and uses her magic on me. I feel a warmth engulf my body and I’m suddenly no longer soaking wet. I look at her appreciatively. “Thank you very much.” I say and Starlight nods in acknowledgment. Rainbow looks at us annoyed. “Ok new rule you can’t have starlight dry you! Now catch them all!” Rainbow hurls all twenty balloons again and I frantically chase them all, trying my best to stop them from hitting the water. I start off doing alright like last time but there are simply too many so I dive in again to catch them. “No! Stop!” I think with my eyes shut as I dive towards the balloons and splash in the water again. The balloon I was reaching for I never felt contact for. I open my eyes and look up. A lot of the balloons are floating in the water. But the one balloon I was reaching for is simply floating in the air. A simple purple glow around it. Rainbow’s mouth is agape while Starlight’s eyes begin to sparkle. I slowly stand up and poke the balloon. After I touch the balloon it slowly descends and lands in the water. I turn to Starlight. “Did you do that?” I ask her, with a rising hope in my chest. “No, that wasn’t me.” She looks at me with intrigue, as if trying to solve a puzzle that only she can see. “So what I’m hearing is. I casted magic?” I say a smile slowly growing in my face. Starlight looks at me with some curiosity. “I don’t know what that was. We still need to run some experiments before we can say for sure.” She says, taking the balloon in her magic. Rainbow finally snaps out of her stupor and looks at me. “So you said where you’re from magic is a myth. But here you are casting it! Did you lie to me?” Rainbow asks with an annoyed look on her face. “Relax Rainbow.” Starlight says. “We don’t know why yet but Thomas is able to absorb traces of magic for his core. Otherwise it’s empty. I think when I dried him off with a drying spell he absorbed some of my magic.” I nod sagely. “Yeah I’m a magic vampire. Truly my life is a tragic tale, a moment of grief and solitude, never able to be close to anyone for fear of hurting those I love.” I say with an overly dramatic tone. Rainbow looks at me with a deadpan expression. She opens her mouth to speak but I put a finger in front of her causing her to close it. “No! Don’t speak! I’m sorry but a pony princess like yourself and I, a creature of the night can never be. Do not weep for me my dear for I am beyond love and redemption.” I close my eyes and pretend to faint. “You do realize it’s the middle of the day, right?” Rainbow looks at me, unamused with my performance. “Yeesh, tough crowd. I say standing up and dusting myself off as best as I can. “That was a grand time Rainbow, what's next?” I say trying my best to ignore how damp my socks are in my shoes. “Well now that we’re warmed up I’m going to Tell you what I really have planned today!” Rainbow gets a devious smile on her face. “You are going to help me prank my friends!” I look at Rainbow with a look of confusion. “What did you have in mind?” I ask, curious to see where this goes. “Well at first I was going to have you play a boring monster but with her help.” She points to Starlight. “We’ll make an evil villain if you yet!” At this I raise an eyebrow. “No offense but I’m trying to not be seen as an evil monster. Why would I ever help you with this?” “Because you promised with your bet on our game last night. Besides you aren’t really going to do any evil just scare them is all. And with Starlight here. She can cast spells to really make it look awesome!” Starlight looks at Rainbow. “He might be forced to do what you say right now but I’m not, why would I help with this?” Rainbow looks at starlight and gives her big puppy dog eyes. “Ugh! Alright I’ll help!” Starlight says annoyed. Yes! Thank you! This is going to be so awesome!” I look at Rainbow and sigh. “Alright so what’s the plan here exactly?” I ask not quite sure what to expect. “Ok guys here’s the plan!” Rainbow begins to go into detail on what’s expected of us. Soon enough, everything gets set into place and we stand ready in the everfree while she flies off to get her friends. “Hey Starlight. What say we prank Rainbow too?” Starlight looks at me. “What did you have in mind?” She asks. A devious smile appears on my face and I lean down explaining what I want to do. “I can’t do all of that myself, but I do know someone who could do it and loves a good prank.” Starlight smiles back at me. “Oh this is going to be really good. Rainbow wants a villain. We’ll give her a villain.” I begin to cackle maniacally as the thought of pranking Rainbow fills me with joy. Chapter 9“Here I saw it go into the Everfree!” Rainbow exclaims as she hurries her friends to the edge of the forest.” Rarity looks at her slightly annoyed and opens her mouth to complain. “Honestly darling, couldn’t this have waited? I skipped breakfast working on an order and was just about to enjoy some lunch.” Rainbow looks at her trying her best to hold in a laugh. “This is very important Rarity. We don’t know if the monster will come back so we have to stop it now!” Rainbow exclaims. Twilight nods her head. “Rainbow is right. We can’t leave dangerous creatures so close to Ponyville. We have to stop it now before it hurts anyone.” Twilight says with certainty in her voice. “Oh, maybe it’s just misunderstood. We should try talking with it first.” Fluttershy says hopefully. Applejack looks at her and shakes her head. “If Rainbow says it’s a dangerous creature ah don’t know if we can talk with it. We’ll try to, but ah wouldn’t get mah hopes up sugarcube.” Applejack says with determination in her eyes. “Yeah! But maybe they are just upset because no one showed up to a big party they planned!” Pinkie interjects excitedly! Twilight speaks up one last time “Well whatever the reason, let’s head in girls. We need to see what’s going on. Lead the way Rainbow.” Rainbow Dash nods and moves into the forest with all the girls following her. None of them see her snicker as she heads in. After a bit of walking they get to the clearing Rainbow picked out. “Here! I saw it right… over…” Rainbow freezes as she takes into view a massive castle that has appeared in the field. “Um, girls? It was midday when we entered. Why is the moon high in the sky?” Fluttershy looks up and as all the others join her they see it’s indeed night now. “Be careful everypony. I’ve never seen this castle before. It could be a powerful creature indeed.” As they slowly enter the front door to the castle, they all gasp as they see Starlight in the main entrance trapped alone in a cage looking scared. “Twilight! Help me! I was captured by the master of this castle! He’s very dangerous! We need to get out of here!” Seeing her friend in distress, Twilight runs over to save her friend. As soon as she gets close ethereal chains wrap up from the floor and restrain her. Twilight tries to cast a teleportation spell but her horn fizzles out. Suddenly a booming voice can be heard all around them. “Aww, look at all the poor ponies caught in my web. Welcome to my lovely home my dears. I hope you enjoy my hospitality as what host wouldn’t have fun things planned for their guests?” “You evil voice! Let go of our friends!” Rainbow shouts in defiance. Afterwards a sinister laugh can be heard. “If you want your friends back…” Suddenly the floor opens up below Twilight and Starlight. As they scream and descend the floor closes back up. “You simply need to join me in the throne room. Do this and I might return your friends. If you can make it that far.” The laughter continues which angers Rainbow more. “We’ll find you and kick your flank! Come on girls! We have a monster to beat and friends to save!” All the remaining ponies nod their heads and head further into the castle. Soon enough they enter a beautiful looking garden with all sorts of flowers and animals. “Keep alert girls, we don’t know what other tricks this thing has.” Rainbow says, her eyes shifting back and forth eyeing everything suspiciously. As they continue to walk a hummingbird flies over to fluttershy and begins to chirp in her ear. Fluttershy nods and quietly responds. “I understand.” She leaves the group and follows the hummingbird. After walking through the garden with what feels like no incident Rainbow looks to her friends and does a headcount. “One, Two, Three… Where’s Fluttershy?” Rainbow begins to get more panicked as all the other girls look around shocked as to where Fluttershy could be. Suddenly they hear the laugh again. “Such a shame it appears that your numbers are dwindling. And after I went through all the effort to make my home as hospitable as possible. Well maybe your friends simply enjoy it so much they no longer want to leave.” The voice laughs a deep bellowing laugh which angers Rainbow further. “Just you wait! We’re gonna kick your flank and rescue all our friends!” Rainbow shouts into the hall with no response. She just groans. “Let’s buddy up! There are four of us. I'll take Applejack as my buddy. Pinkie, you and Rarity make sure the other doesn’t disappear. They all nod for their new tasks and stick closer together. As they walk Pinkie begins to notice some writing on the wall. “Oooh! Hey Rarity! This wall says there’s a fun party through that spooky door!” She begins to hop happily towards it but Rarity holds her in place. “Darling, that is obviously a trap. Let’s just stick with the group and try not to get captured. “But it’s a super duper fun party!” Pinkie says as she tries harder to go to it. Rarity holds her tight, refusing to budge. “No Pinkie! I will not let you go! Rainbow Dash! Applejack! Could you… two…” She looks around and notices the two ponies she's looking for are no longer with them. She just sighs. “It looks like we’re next Pinkie, fine let’s go to the party and get captured.” Rarity dejectedly walks into the room followed by a squealing Pinkie who’s excited to see what’s beyond the door. “Ok girls I think we are getting to the throne room, it's getting fancier here.” Rainbow looks back towards her group and sees only Applejack behind her. “Where are Pinkie and Rarity?!” Rainbow asks concern growing on her face as she realizes they are gone. As she’s about to head back she hears snarling coming from down the hallway. Suddenly she sees several shadow black dogs running towards them angrily howling and panting. Seeing the dark black creatures Rainbow and Applejack begin to run. As the beasts begin to gain on them Rainbow takes to the air and grabs applejack trying to outrun them by flying. Looking back they still see the dogs gaining ground. Applejack sighs and looks to Rainbow. “Dash, listen. Yah need to drop me, they’ll catch us if yah don’t. Ah’ll try to buy yah some time but we can’t rescue our friends like this.” Rainbow looks at applejack with tears in her eyes. “I’m not letting you go AJ! We can make it.” Applejack just smiles and bites Rainbow’s leg causing her to let out a cry of pain as she drops Applejack. “Now go Rainbow! Save our friends!” Applejack turns to face the hounds. She stands strong and ready for them. Rainbow looks one last time at her friend who turns and gives Rainbow a reassuring smile before she shouts and charges at the hounds. Rainbow stifles her tears and continues to fly towards the throne room. Finally she reaches it and slams the doors open. What she sees shocks her. She sees Starlight in the cage and sitting on the throne she sees Thomas swirling a chalice of grape juice in a black cloak with a blood red underlining. He’s dressed very formally with legs crossed and smirking at Rainbow. “Well it seems the guest of honor finally arrives. Tell me would you care for a drink my dear?” I ask as I continue to sip my grape juice. “Thomas!? What have you done with my friends!?” Rainbow angrily asks. I simply laugh. “Your friends have front row seats to my plan. As you can see Rainbow subduing you all was quite easy. This world is perfect for me I feel.” Rainbow angrily responds to my remark. “You don’t belong in this world! Even if you beat me and my friends, ponykind will stop you!” I try my best not to laugh as she leads me into a line I’ve always wanted to say. I finish off my grape juice and throw the glass chalice on the ground, shattering it. “What is a pony? A miserable little pile of secrets… But enough talk. Have at you!” I then stand up and run towards Rainbow, she tries to ready herself but I run so fast I appear right in her face. I grab and throw her into the air as I laugh. “Come little pony, is that all you got?” She glowers at me and rips her dress up to be able to fight properly. She charges at me and readies a hoof to hit me. I block the hit with a single hand and laugh at her. If that is all you have my dear then I’m afraid you’ll never succeed in defeating me. I then casually toss her away again. Getting more frustrated Rainbow begins flying around the room forming a tornado, she then launches it at me. I grab the bottom of it and use it as a vacuum to suck Rainbow towards me before flinging her in a daze to the ground. As she lays there I slowly approach. “Now then, it appears you’ve lost Rainbow and I finally have you right where I want you.” I approach her slowly as she braces herself. Suddenly she feels something touch her snout. “Boop! You lose!” I say triumphantly. Suddenly a wall in the throne room gives way showing all of Rainbow’s friends as they approach and the cage that was holding starlight breaks apart. Rainbow looks confused as she looks around. “What the hay! What’s going on?!” Rainbow asks, confused. “Well you said you wanted a villain so I gave you a villain.” I laugh as I walk over to Starlight. “Starlight was willing to help me with my plan and she even got another great prankster in on it.” I chuckle and point behind Rainbow at a statue in the throne room that begins to move and laugh. “Now when my friend Starlight said a new creature wanted my chaotic expertise to pull off an incredible prank. How could I say no?” As Discord slithers around and he approaches Starlight and myself. All three of us share a good laugh. “After each of us got separated from you, we were told what was going on and offered tea and snacks to watch the rest of the show.” Twilight explained. “I have to say Thomas, this was quite a fun experience, you played an amazing villain.” Fluttershy said. Starlight looked to me with a small look of intrigue. “The entire prank was fun but I have to ask. How did you move so fast and hold onto that tornado?” I look to Starlight and chuckle. “Discord boosted my abilities with his magic, can’t have a wimpy final boss after all.” At this response Starlight’s eyes shrunk to pinpricks and she looks to Discord. “How much magic did you use on him Discord?!” She says as she begins to scan me. Discord looks at her unamused. “I boosted his abilities with only a small fraction of my power. Why is that of any concern?” Discord says looking bored now. “Because you used a fraction of your infinite power! I’m just worried that…” Starlight groans after the magic scan is complete. “What’s wrong Starlight?” I ask unsure what has her so upset. “What’s got you so agitated, Starlight?” I ask getting a bit worried. “It’s your magic core. Because it absorbed an infinite amount of chaos magic it’s broken now. It’s overflowing with chaos magic. I’m not sure what this means for you now. You could be perfectly fine or a ticking magic time bomb. We’ll have to monitor you to be sure.” I look concerned. “Can’t discord just use his magic to fix it?” Starlight shakes her head. “Magic caused this to begin with. I have no idea what will happen if he puts even more into you. All we can do now is just keep an eye on you and see if there are any changes.” “Well shit. I just wanted to have a fun time pranking Rainbow and now I might die?” I try to keep from shaking as I stand still. Everyone there tries to console me and keep me calm but as they crowd I get more and more anxious. I keep thinking I just want to be alone in my room to process it. Suddenly when I open my eyes I find myself alone in the guestroom. ‘Man, what the fuck am I going to do?” I say collapsing on my bed before passing out. Chapter 11Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter.Chapter 12I look at my calendar and sigh to myself as I get out of bed. “Welp, three weeks of being here and no progress on going home yet.” I put on one of the new sets of clothes Rarity made for me, laughing as I reminisced at her fainting when she found out my culture has everyone wearing clothes everyday. It’s still a bit early before my scheduled meetup with Rainbow and Starlight. I’ve finally gotten the hang of putting a bit of magic into my speed to go faster and Rainbow took that as a yes to field test it. Sighing again I enter the kitchen and see a tired Twilight making another pot of coffee. “Good morning Twilight.” As I greet her she jumps and looks at me. “Oh! Good morning Thomas! No breakthroughs yet on getting you home or fixing your magic core but I promise I’ll have something soon!” She smiles at me but I can tell from her disheveled mane and barely seeing her outside the castle all this time, she’s really been trying her hardest to help me to her own detriment. “Twilight please, get some rest. It’s been three weeks already and I haven’t exploded. That should be good news right? And I know you’ll find me a way home eventually. But I don’t want you doing this to yourself for my sake.” I walk over and ruffle her mane making it even messier than it already was. “Please get some rest. I promise I’ll be fine for one day. Ok?” She looks at me with fake annoyance before smiling.. “Ok Thomas, I’ll get some rest. In the meantime please promise me today you’ll spend some time with friends. I’ve also noticed you’ve been focused a lot on your magic studies and haven’t spent much time with pretty much anypony. “That’s not true!” I exclaim with indignation. “I spend tons of time with Starlight! We’re basically inseparable! And Rainbow hangs out with us constantly! Even if I’d prefer she didn’t.” I mumble out that last part. Twilight just laughs. “While I’m glad you and Starlight get along, are you two really spending time together as friends, or only as Teacher and Student? Not to mention, do you even think of Rainbow as a friend?” I think back on the past couple of weeks, while Rainbow isn’t as rude to me as when I first arrived, our relationship is not that of friends. She seems to think of me as more of a rival even though truthfully I don’t hold a candle to her in anything. Still, she has kept my life interesting and I would be lying if our daily wrestling matches and contests weren’t a nice way to get my mind off of exploding. Though I would prefer if she didn’t constantly try and fight me during my lessons with Starlight. “Fair enough Twilight. But today is an important day! I’ll be trying to use magic finally in a race with Rainbow! So Technically, it is a friendship hangout day. With just a pinch of magic study.” I say hoping it will be enough for Twilight. She just looks at me with this strange knowing look on her face. “I’m glad you are spending time with your friends today Thomas. I hope you have a great time! I’m going to go…” Twilight yawns. “Get some more sleep then.” She slowly heads out of the kitchen, pot of coffee forgotten. After she heads out I grab a bagel and eat it untoasted as I head out to meet Rainbow and Starlight. After a bit of walking I see Starlight and Rainbow waiting for me by the lake. I wave to them as I approach. “Guh! Finally you’re here! Jeez, are you sure a slowpoke like him can go fast now Starlight?” Rainbow looks annoyed like usual. As I approach I boop her nose as per our customary greeting at this point. “Boop.” I say in lieu of good morning. “Would you stop doing that! I hate when you touch my snout!” Rainbow huffs. “I know, that’s why I do it.” I chuckle and stick my tongue out. Rainbow tries to get in my face before Starlight stops her with her magic. “Now now you two. Don’t go and fight when there is a perfectly good contest we are about to do. Need I remind you Rainbow that this was your idea to begin with?” Starlight looks at Rainbow like a mother scolding their child. “Ugh, fine. I’ll just have to cream you in this race and show you the true skills and awesomeness I have.” Rainbow says as she starts stretching. While she’s doing this I lean down and whisper to Starlight. “Are you sure this is a good idea? I’ve barely learned how to read my magic core, do you really think I can channel this speed spell already?” Starlight looks at me with a warm smile. “Thomas, you're the most studious creature I’ve met. You will be able to do this simple channel no problem. I’ve seen you sneaking peeks into the more advanced magic tomes.” She gives me a small smirk as I begin to fake whistle and look anywhere but at her. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. I was just doing some simple light reading. Nothing more.” Starlight giggles at this. “Right and I suppose it has nothing to do with learning telekinesis or more advanced spells.” I cross my arms in fake indignation. “I want to move things with my mind! Sue me!” At this Starlight and I both share a laugh while Rainbow stares at us annoyed. “Come on! Are you finally ready to race or what?” I look at Starlight and chuckle one last time. “Alright let’s not keep the crybaby waiting anymore.” Starlight laughs again and pats my side. “You got this Thomas. Just keep in mind what I’ve been teaching you and you’ll do fine.” With one last reassuring smile I head over to Rainbow and touch the starting line. As soon as I do Starlight clears her throat to explain the rules. “Ok the rules for this race are simple. You will both do twenty laps around this lake. I’ll be using this start line as a counter.” Starlight’s horn lit up causing the starting line to glow briefly before stopping. “Now for every lap you do this line will count it. Once you’ve completed twenty laps it will announce the winner. Are you both ready?” Before we could answer we heard cheering and looked to our right. There seated on some bleachers were the rest of our friends waiting for the race to start. I look confused at them sitting there. “Who told the rest of our friends about this?” Rainbow looked at me with a cocky smile on her face. “What? You think I’m not gonna let my friends see how awesome I am?” I just groan and look at her annoyed. “This was supposed to be a simple test of my abilities, not a spectacle.” Rainbow just looks at me and smiles. “Well yeah but who doesn’t push themselves to be the best they can be in front of an audience! I can’t do my best without people cheering me on.” I hear a small shrill voice cheering. “Go Rainbow Dash! You got this! Kick his flank!” I turn to see a smaller orange pony jumping up and down and flapping her wings excitedly. “Seems you have a really big fan here too.” I say pointing at the orange pony. “Oh yeah, that’s scootaloo, she’s kind of like a sister to me so I make sure she always gets to see me perform at my best!” I just shake my head. “Alright let’s just get this started? You ready?” I ask Rainbow as I get into a running position and close my eyes to focus. “Yeah! Let’s go already! I’ve been waiting for weeks! Starlight! Start the race already!” Rainbow begins flapping her wings itching to blast off. “Alright you two, I want a good clean race! On your marks!” As she says this I focus on my magic core that I’ve learned to feel. The simple pulse of it like another beating heart, a rhythm like an engine ready to fire. “Get set!” I focus harder, slowly releasing some of the energy in it, letting it wrap around me. I feel the warmth of the magic coat me like a blanket that keeps me safe and protected. “Go!” Starlight shouts those words and my eyes shoot open. Rainbow and I both take off at the same time. I was worried I failed to channel the magic but I look around at the world as it whizzes by. All I can feel is my heart pumping and hear the whistle of the wind. I look and see Rainbow a little bit farther ahead than me but I can’t help but smile. Going this fast, being able to use magic I’ve spent weeks studying. At this point I don’t care if I win or lose. I just feel so free. “And they are officially at the halfway mark everypony!” I hear Starlight’s announcement and can’t believe we’ve run that far already. I shake the thought out of my head and focus. I see Rainbow still ahead of me so I try to use a bit more magic to increase my speed. I slowly add more in and see I’m slowly gaining on her. I smile at my progress and keep running as fast as I can. As soon as I’m about to reach her I hear another announcement. “And that’s the race everypony! Rainbow Dash won by a hair!” I stop running and collapse on the grass panting. I didn’t realize how exhausting the run was until after I stopped. I see Starlight walk over to me with a bottle of water. “You did amazing Thomas! You kept up with Rainbow Dash for the entire race! Not bad for someone who just started learning magic.” She smirks as she levitates over a water bottle. I drink it up greedily. As soon as I have my fill I look at her and smile. “Yeah it was an amazing race. I don’t care that I lost it felt so freeing moving that fast! And I didn't explode! You’ve been a great teacher Starlight! Thank you!” I pull Starlight into a tight hug laughing as I do. Starlight smiles and returns the hug just as tightly.. “And you’ve been an amazing student! I’m glad that I get to teach someone so studious like you! I know if you keep at it, we’ll have you learning the more advanced stuff in no time!” As we break our hug the rest of the girls come over to give their congratulations. “That was mighty impressive Thomas. Ain’t ever seen any creature keep up with Rainbow before.” Applejack roughly patted me on the back before I could stand up. “Indeed darling you really did an amazing job! Oh do you think you might become an athlete here? If you do, please let me do all your sporting outfit!” Rarity exclaimed. “That looked like super duper fun! I can’t wait for the next challenge! I’ll make sure to bring my pom poms next time!” Pinkie says excitedly doing constant cartwheels around us. “You did a great job Thomas. I’m very impressed.” Fluttershy said, giving me a gentle smile. As she does, Rainbow flies over to us. “Well no surprise there! I am super awesome! Of course I’d get first.” She smirked at me and I gave her an annoyed look. “Just you wait Rainbow! I’m gonna keep practicing magic and soon I’ll be able to beat you at your fastest no sweat!” I meet her gaze with my own. We both smile with determined looks in our eyes. “How about this Rainbow? At the end of every week from now on. Why don’t we both meet up here? We’ll race around the lake and see who's the best each time. Sound good? “Yeah! Sounds perfect! Are you sure though? I mean I know I’m awesome but do you really want to lose to me every week?” I laugh at that remark. “Please I almost caught you while I barely know how to do magic! Imagine what I can do when I get even better at it!” We both stare each other down, but before anything can happen Starlight steps in. “Alright you two, that was an exciting race but now it’s time for Thomas’ lessons so thank you for coming everypony, and I guess if you want to see another race come again next week.” Starlight and I say our goodbyes before heading off. As the castle comes into view I remember what Twilight said. “Actually Starlight, Twilight made me promise to stop studying for a bit and spend time with friends. Is there anything you’d like to do today?” Starlight looks deep in thought before responding. “Well, there is one thing I like doing, care to join me?” Starlight smiles expectantly. I smile back at her. “Sure! Lead the way!” Starlight squees and begins to quickly push me towards the park. Chapter 13“What’s with that look?” Starlight asked, eyebrow raised. “Nothing, I was just expecting a powerful mage such as yourself to have a hobby with more… lasers?” I said, trying to hide my look of surprise. “Well you asked me what I wanted to do, and this is it.” Starlight began to fiddle with her materials until she got her desired shape. “Yeah well I’ve never done this before so I’m still a bit confused.” I say trying to replicate Starlight but failing miserably. “What’s the appeal in kites anyway? Magic is so much cooler.” At this Starlight stops putting her kite together and looks at me. “Kites are amazing Thomas! So freeing and graceful! Not needing magic to simply float through the air without a care in the world! Kites are tied to nothing except the string, no destinies, no magic, just the wind carrying it gracefully!” Starlight smiles, picturing her soon to be completed kite flying in the air. “Yeah well I’m glad you have a hobby you enjoy.” I say trying my hardest to make something airworthy. “Thomas, need some help?” Starlight heads over to my spot and takes a look at my progress. “No see, there’s your problem. The sticks you are using are too dense and thick for your kite. It’s going to drag it down before it ever gets the chance to rise, here use these.” Starlight levitates over some of her unused sticks to me. “These should make it so your kite can stay aloft with relative ease without the need for much effort on your end.” I look at her and laugh. “Hey! What’s so funny?” Starlight asks while she continues working on her own kite. “Nothing. Like I said this is just a hobby I didn’t think you would be into. It gives me a new perspective on who Starlight Glimmer is.” I say waving my hands in front of Starlight who begins to laugh. “I guess it is something unexpected for what I would like but I really do enjoy it. What about you? I’m sure you have your own unexpected hobbies.” I look to her after failing for the fourth time to make my kite. “Nah, I’m not that interesting. Honestly ending up here is the most interesting thing to ever happen to me.” Starlight playfully nudges me. “Come on. I can keep a secret. What do you like to do?” She looks at me expectantly. After a little bit of time thinking on it. I sigh and tell her. “Well it’s not much but a hobby I enjoyed back home was playing guitar. It really soothed me whenever I got stressed, and playing it felt like magic. The beautiful sounds and calming rhythms. It was a relaxing time for me.” I smile reminiscing on my time playing. Starlight smiled too before getting back to her kite. “That sounds wonderful! You should play for all of us sometime.” Starlight says as she ties the final knot on her kite. “Nope sorry, I don’t play music for others. I always only played for myself.” Starlight frowns and looks at me. “Why? I’m sure you sound great.” I shake my head and go back to trying to make my kite. “Sorry, but when it comes to guitar I’m not too confident in it. So I only play for myself, that way when I mess up only I notice.” I say getting more frustrated with the kite. Starlight uses her magic to finish setting mine up. “Tell you what, why don’t I get you a guitar. Not to play for others but so you can play for you. I’m sure you miss it.” She smiles at me after handing me my finished kite. “I’d like that a lot. Now then let's get the puppies airborne!” I take my kite and begin to run a little bit giving my kite some lift to get up in the air, Starlight runs alongside me and soon both our kites are dancing on the wind without a care in the world. “You know what, this is quite relaxing. I approve!” I say smiling looking at our kites. “Isn’t it? It really helps me clear my head especially when I get stuck on a spell. Sometimes I’ll just come out here and fly a kite. It usually helps me move past whatever block I’m having.” Starlight’s eyes sparkle looking at the kites flying freely in the air. “Hm, well I have to give it to you. This is quite relaxing.” I say just enjoying the cool breeze as we fly our kites. I close my eyes and let out a relaxing sigh before Starlight speaks up. “Hey Thomas, I have a question for you.” I give her a slight nod while keeping my eyes closed and just relaxing. “I might have an answer for you. What’s up?” I say enjoying the peace. “Do you miss your old home?” At this my content smile shifts to a frown but I keep my eyes closed and try to relax again. “Of course I do. All my friends and family are back there. My entire life was spent there and it feels like all my hard work I’ve spent years to achieve is gone now. Don’t get me wrong, this place is great. But I’m viewing it as more of a vacation because I know you and Twilight will find a way to fix me and send me home.” I say going back to enjoying the breeze. “But you’ve made friends here too, right? I’m your friend aren’t I?” I hear Starlight sound a bit sad as she says this. I open my eyes and look at her, she shows a dejected face and is looking at the ground now. “Hey don’t be sad. Of course you’re my friend. I couldn’t ask for a better teacher or friend here. I’d say you’re my best friend in this world Starlight. And if you and Twilight figure out a way to let me come and go from here as I please. You know I’ll be visiting all the time.” I smile at her and go back to looking at our kites. “Yeah, I’m sure she’ll find a way to send you back.” Starlight’s ears fold back and she closes her eyes in deep concentration. “Thomas thanks for flying kites with me but I just remembered I needed to help Applejack with something. See you tomorrow?” Starlight asks hopefully. “Of course teach! I’m looking forward to studying more magic with you! I know that with you by my side I’ll be able to eventually wipe the floor with Rainbow in a race!” I cackle maniacally and rub my hands together. Starlight smiles again and giggles. “You know you can be pretty lame when you want.” She says as she brings our kites back down. “Psssh. You only say it’s lame because you are incredibly jealous of my amazing demeanor and magical prowess.” I say standing in a silly villain pose. This causes Starlight to go into a full laugh and I quickly join her. After our laughter dies down she looks at me with a soft smile. “Thanks again for flying kites with me, this was a lot of fun. Think we can do it again sometime?” “Of course! I think I get what you see in it now. It’s kind of fun. Let’s try and make this a regular thing.” I give a cheeky grin as I bring my kite back down. “I can’t tell if you are messing with me or not.” Starlight says as she finishes packing up her extra materials. “Even I don’t know, honestly.” I say as I go to hand Starlight my kite. She just shakes her head. “Keep it. When we do come back here to fly them you won’t have to struggle building a new one. Even if it was pretty funny watching you desperately try.” Starlight says snorting and trying to hold back her laughter. “Hey! Kites are harder than they look! I bet you kites are more complicated than magic theory! And more dangerous too!” I say with a look of fake annoyance on me. “Oh I don’t doubt it, truly only masters of the craft can ever hope to make a kite worthy of the air.” Starlight says in a mocking tone. I just stick my tongue out at her. “Alright Starlight, have a good time with Applejack. I’m gonna go bug Rainbow. Maybe I can ruin her afternoon nap.” I smile giddily at the thought. “Just don’t upset her too much Thomas, I want you in one piece for our lessons tomorrow.” “Relax, if she tries to chase me I’ll just run. It’ll be good practice for our races.” At this Starlight rolls her eyes and begins to head off. “Just be careful ok?” She calls out to me on her way. “Scout’s honor!” I say and head off to find my new victim. Chapter 14“Perfect, there she is.” After finding my mark I ready my plan into motion. I held the water balloon carefully as I began to aim at the low flying cloud with a sleeping blue mare on it. I snicker as I finish my calculations and let loose my weapon of evil intent. As soon as I chuck the balloon I dive for cover behind the park bench hoping she won’t see me. After diving behind the bench I hear a pop and a splash followed by annoyed yelling. “What the hay?! Who did that?!” I hear Rainbow yell as I quietly chuckle to myself. “Now it’s time for phase 2.” Making sure Rainbow isn’t looking in my direction first I get out of my hiding spot and walk into view. Once Rainbow notices me she flies over with a look of pure rage on her face. “Thomas! Did you throw a water balloon at me?!” She asks me angrily, ready to beat the stuffing out of me. “I did… but for good reason!” I say looking at Rainbow with a sly look on my face. “Oh yeah? And what reason is that?” She says, her patience nonexistent. At this question I do what is always customary now whenever we meet up. I extend a finger and poke her nose. “Boop, tag you’re it!” At this I charge my magic speed and run as fast as I can away from Rainbow who has a stupefied look on her face. She quickly recovers and I hear a yell as she gives chase. I begin to laugh loudly as I think to myself. “Phase 2 a success, final phase initiating.” I ran down the roads in Ponyville looking for my planned trap. Finally I see it. I quickly turn down an alley and prepare the last bit of my plan. Just as soon as I finish the final touches Rainbow quickly flies into the alley. As soon as she does she slams into clear plastic wrap covered in honey. As soon as she does she tries her best to untangle herself from it. “Ugh, what’s going on!? Why am I covered in honey?!” Rainbow growls as she pulls the rest of the wrap off of her. As soon as she does I cackle maniacally. “Oh Rainbow, I understand you are scared and confused. It’s ok to be a chicken sometimes.” As I say this I rip open the pillows I hid here and throw the white feathers onto Rainbow. She sputters and coughs as a couple get in her mouth but as soon as the feathers stick to the honey I pull out my camera and snap a picture of her. “And that is another wonderful picture for the scrapbook.” I laugh as I put the photo away. My laughter quickly stops however when I see the look on Rainbow’s face. The amount of rage in her eyes lets me know that today is my last day alive. “Meep! Meep!” I stick out my tongue, jump in the air and bolt out of the alley. Rainbow begins her pursuit as I hear her shouting. “Get back here coward and face me!” I try to outrun her but see she’s slowly gaining, so I begin bobbing and weaving through the streets trying to lose her, with no such luck. “Come on, think! Who can help me right now.” I think to myself. Then it hits me! In order to make sure I don’t die I begin running over to Sweet Apple Acres. Hopefully starlight can protect me from Rainbow’s wrath. “Stop running, it'll be over faster if you accept it!” Rainbow screams as she continues to chase me. As soon as I see the farmhouse I make a beeline for it. Once I reach the door I quickly enter and close it. When I close it I hear the zooming of Rainbow get quieter and I wipe my brow in relief. I’m about to call out to Starlight to see where she is but I hear her talking in the kitchen so I head over to it. “I just don’t know Applejack. How will Thomas take it?” I freeze hearing my name. I don’t make myself known yet and just hide behind the wall leading into the kitchen. “Well yah know my policy on honesty sugarcube. If yah want your friendship to continue being real yah have to tell him the truth.” I hear Starlight sigh as she begins to speak. “But how will he take it? He might hate me for lying to him for so long. But it’s not like I could just send him back with how unstable he is!” My breath catches in my throat. “Send me back?” I whisper to myself now fully invested in what they are saying. “Ah know yah mean well. But hiding that yah know a spell to send him back isn’t the right way to go about it.” I can’t believe what I’m hearing. I slowly back away from the kitchen entrance, eyes glued to it. I don’t notice the table behind me and I stumble causing it to topple. The voices in the kitchen stop. I bolt out the front door. I run and run until not even magic can help with the exhaustion as I try to push past the fatigue. I feel something inside myself give way. I collapse and sputter on the ground trying my best to process the information I just learned. I feel angry and sad as I begin to hit the ground beneath me, panting and yelling until I can’t anymore. At that point I just lay face down in the dirt not caring to move anymore. “Finally I found you!” I hear Rainbow shout at me. “Prepare for the beating of your… Hey you ok dude?” I hear her anger turn into confusion as she sees me. I don’t bother looking up. “I’m face down in the dirt not caring if you turn me to mush. What do you think?” I respond dryly and muffled by the ground. “What’s wrong? You didn’t even take the fact you could explode as badly as whatever this is.” I sigh and flop over so I can look at Rainbow while I lay down.” “I overheard Starlight talking with Applejack after I escaped you. It turns out Starlight knows a spell that can send me back. But she won’t use it on me.” Rainbow gets a look of shock on her face before slowly walking over to me. “Hey. It’s gonna be ok. I’m sure she has a good reason. Just talk with her and I’m sure she’ll explain why.” I numbly shake my head. “I don’t want to see her right now. Hell, I don't know if I want to see her ever again.“ At this, Rainbow gets angry again and stares me down. “Hey! She’s your friend! She made a mistake! So what?! Are you really willing to throw that away because of this?!” She glares at me and at her remarks I feel my sadness bubble over into just anger. “Yes!” Yes I would! I had a way to see my friends and family again! A chance to go back to my normal life! But instead I’m stuck here in Ponyland just because someone I thought was my friend doesn’t want me to go back home!” At this I feel the wind knock out of me as Rainbow hits me in the stomach. Gasping for air I angrily lunge at her and try to pin her to the ground. As soon as I grab one of her legs she hits me again causing me to recoil in pain. “Everyone here is your friend! You can’t just throw them away because of a single mistake!” Rainbow charges into me and hits me in the head causing me to bleed again. When I feel the blood trickle down I get even angrier. “Everyone? Please! You have been nothing but a thorn in my side ever since I got here. Let’s not forget that you wanted me to play the villain in a prank against your friends it inadvertently turned me into a walking bomb! So two “friends” of mine here have put my life on a timer and refuse to let me see my family again! I’m tired and alone! And I’ll probably be alone for the rest of my life here! No one else knows what I’m going through!” I throw Rainbow off me and with an empty voice I walk away. “Just leave me alone. I don’t want to see anyone right now.” I hear her fly off. After she does. I trudge back to my bedroom in the castle.
Chapter 10Author's Note Sorry, I would have gotten this chapter out sooner but a car rammed into mine this morning.
Chapter 3Finally making it into the town proper Rainbow and I started to get uneasy stares from the locals as they saw us enter.
Chapter 12I look at my calendar and sigh to myself as I get out of bed.
