“So what exactly are we doing here?” I look at the lake.

“I already told you, it’s the start of your punishment.” Rainbow says with a smile on her face.

“Ok Rainbow. Let’s go ahead and get this over with. I want to learn more about magic so the sooner we get this over with, the better.” Rainbow just rolls her eyes and frowns.

“Jeez, not another egghead. What is it with everypony I know wanting to read rather than experience life.” I huff back.

“Look I’m not usually one for reading but magic was always a fantasy where I’m from. So being told magic is real and that I might even be able to possibly cast it. How could I not get excited about that?” I say with enthusiasm.

“Now let’s just remember Thomas, we don’t know if it’s possible for you to use magic like a unicorn. We’ll have to experiment and study your reactions to different magical stimuli.” Rainbow begins to snore. I poke her to wake her up.

“Guh! Not second place!” She shouts before realizing she’s by the lake and sheepishly smiles.

“Heh, whoops.” I just look at her with a smirk on my face which causes her to go back to her usually annoyed expression.

“Alright! Let’s get to the reason we are here. You!” She points a hoof at me.

“My first command is a simple one. Don’t let these balloons hit the water.” Rainbow began to hurl balloons at the water causing me to dive to hit them back. At first it wasn’t so bad. Rainbow would send a balloon and I would knock it back. Cockily I laughed.

“Is that all you got you walking blueberry?” When Rainbow heard this she began to send more balloons my way. Suddenly as I gaze up I see twenty balloons heading my way. I try my best as I flail around but only hit about seven of them back. I lay in the shallow water gasping and soaked from head to toe by the water. I hear Rainbow laughing.

“You’re gonna have to try a lot harder to knock back the balloons. I just grumble and get out of the water.

“Starlight, would you mind drying me off?” She nods and uses her magic on me. I feel a warmth engulf my body and I’m suddenly no longer soaking wet. I look at her appreciatively.

“Thank you very much.” I say and Starlight nods in acknowledgment. Rainbow looks at us annoyed.

“Ok new rule you can’t have starlight dry you! Now catch them all!” Rainbow hurls all twenty balloons again and I frantically chase them all, trying my best to stop them from hitting the water. I start off doing alright like last time but there are simply too many so I dive in again to catch them.

“No! Stop!” I think with my eyes shut as I dive towards the balloons and splash in the water again. The balloon I was reaching for I never felt contact for. I open my eyes and look up. A lot of the balloons are floating in the water. But the one balloon I was reaching for is simply floating in the air. A simple purple glow around it. Rainbow’s mouth is agape while Starlight’s eyes begin to sparkle. I slowly stand up and poke the balloon. After I touch the balloon it slowly descends and lands in the water. I turn to Starlight.

“Did you do that?” I ask her, with a rising hope in my chest.

“No, that wasn’t me.” She looks at me with intrigue, as if trying to solve a puzzle that only she can see.

“So what I’m hearing is. I casted magic?” I say a smile slowly growing in my face. Starlight looks at me with some curiosity.

“I don’t know what that was. We still need to run some experiments before we can say for sure.” She says, taking the balloon in her magic. Rainbow finally snaps out of her stupor and looks at me.

“So you said where you’re from magic is a myth. But here you are casting it! Did you lie to me?” Rainbow asks with an annoyed look on her face.

“Relax Rainbow.” Starlight says.

“We don’t know why yet but Thomas is able to absorb traces of magic for his core. Otherwise it’s empty. I think when I dried him off with a drying spell he absorbed some of my magic.” I nod sagely.

“Yeah I’m a magic vampire. Truly my life is a tragic tale, a moment of grief and solitude, never able to be close to anyone for fear of hurting those I love.” I say with an overly dramatic tone. Rainbow looks at me with a deadpan expression. She opens her mouth to speak but I put a finger in front of her causing her to close it.

“No! Don’t speak! I’m sorry but a pony princess like yourself and I, a creature of the night can never be. Do not weep for me my dear for I am beyond love and redemption.” I close my eyes and pretend to faint.

“You do realize it’s the middle of the day, right?” Rainbow looks at me, unamused with my performance.

“Yeesh, tough crowd. I say standing up and dusting myself off as best as I can.

“That was a grand time Rainbow, what's next?” I say trying my best to ignore how damp my socks are in my shoes.

“Well now that we’re warmed up I’m going to Tell you what I really have planned today!” Rainbow gets a devious smile on her face.

“You are going to help me prank my friends!” I look at Rainbow with a look of confusion.

“What did you have in mind?” I ask, curious to see where this goes.

“Well at first I was going to have you play a boring monster but with her help.” She points to Starlight.

“We’ll make an evil villain if you yet!” At this I raise an eyebrow.

“No offense but I’m trying to not be seen as an evil monster. Why would I ever help you with this?”

“Because you promised with your bet on our game last night. Besides you aren’t really going to do any evil just scare them is all. And with Starlight here. She can cast spells to really make it look awesome!” Starlight looks at Rainbow.

“He might be forced to do what you say right now but I’m not, why would I help with this?” Rainbow looks at starlight and gives her big puppy dog eyes.

“Ugh! Alright I’ll help!” Starlight says annoyed.

Yes! Thank you! This is going to be so awesome!” I look at Rainbow and sigh.

“Alright so what’s the plan here exactly?” I ask not quite sure what to expect.

“Ok guys here’s the plan!” Rainbow begins to go into detail on what’s expected of us. Soon enough, everything gets set into place and we stand ready in the everfree while she flies off to get her friends.

“Hey Starlight. What say we prank Rainbow too?” Starlight looks at me.

“What did you have in mind?” She asks. A devious smile appears on my face and I lean down explaining what I want to do.

“I can’t do all of that myself, but I do know someone who could do it and loves a good prank.” Starlight smiles back at me.

“Oh this is going to be really good. Rainbow wants a villain. We’ll give her a villain.” I begin to cackle maniacally as the thought of pranking Rainbow fills me with joy.
