A content smile was on Smolder’s face as she entered her dorm room after a long but eventful school day. Placing the few books she had onto her desk, the dragoness stretched out her arms and wings unwinding as she did. “Finally, I thought it would never end.” She sighed as she slumped into her bunk currently all by herself as Ocellus was taking some time to collect things at the library for an upcoming assignment.
As she flexed her claws, the dragoness’ gaze wandered towards her pillow and what lay hidden beneath. “I got time. Might as well.” She muttered, reaching underneath before pulling out an old weather journal. The cover and binding had a faded red with white trim along its edges. There were no words on the front, just an old pony symbol. When Smolder had asked Starlight about it, she discovered that the symbol represented the mind and imagination, something that confused Smolder at first since it appeared to be just a blank journal. However, the true reason for the symbol became clear once she peered at the last page of the journal, finding a short spell in the form of a four-lined poem. However, Smolder only realized it was magic when she read it quietly causing the book to glow.
As Smolder spoke the words softly, her eyes glowed faintly before her perspective changed. What had once been nothing but a white void was reforged by her imagination into a big, lush cave with many illuminating crystals to provide light. An opening in the ceiling shined sunlight down upon a nice flat rock covered in moss, perfect for sunbathing. Settled in another corner was a lava pool shaped like a hot tub. Strolling over to a pile of gemstones, the dragoness planted herself firmly within it, the gems scattering like it was a bean bag chair. She chuckled with a smile at her imaginary hoard.
Then, trailing her claw along its surface, Smolder grabbed a random jewel from the pile, licking her lips at the blue sapphire, her tongue taking in the delightful taste as she suckled. After savouring the flavor for a little longer, she chomped down on the gemstone with a satisfied smirk, relaxing in the quiet of her cave. Taking another treat into her mouth, Smolder thought about the magic surrounding her. While everything she could see was a mental illusion, she was always surprised at how it felt so real, as taste, touch, and smells were all genuine as far as she could distinguish.
Minutes passed as Smolder munched, her thoughts drifting about while trying not to think about homework for the time. Shutting her eyes, her mind drifted towards remembering the recent times she and her friends had spent at a park, having their usual fun and games. Her favorite activity had been springing up, using her wings to catch the high-flying frisbees. During some of her airtime, she had by chance spotted some younger ponies playing with their parents. The little chaos machines known as foals were always zipping about, with a couple of the smaller ones even wearing some sort of protection on them. They looked so happy and cute, the dynamic so different from how young dragons were raised.
Smolder blushed, she was too sheepish to admit she felt something inside her when she watched the family play, but was never sure what the feeling was. Whatever it was, it clung to the back of her mind.
Said feelings now lingered in the forefront as Smolder remembered when she asked about those white garments she’d seen on the foals. Professor Pinkie had been eager to explain that they were diapers and why foals wore them. The dragoness chuckled at the memory, her laugh echoing off the cave walls. “Yeah, hatchlings don’t have those.” Dragons never had a need for diapers, from birth their bathrooms were just designated pits or anywhere when you were mid-flight. Apparently, Spike had worn those… diapers and gone through what the ponies called “potty training” when Princess Twilight’s parents had raised him. But he was the only dragon who’d ever worn such things.
As Smolder thought about it more and about pony families, a quick shiver ran down her spine in spite of herself. Opening her eyes slowly she looked around a bit confused. “What was that?!” She thought aloud. Something felt different, but she wasn’t sure what it was until she shifted about some and noticed the new, soft feeling around her waist. As she looked down her eyes went wide, letting out a loud squeak upon spotting the fluffy mass taped around her, with pink guards around the legs! “W-what?! No! I wasn’t thinking about this.” Even though she was alone, the dragoness still became sheepish as her claws pressed on the front in a useless attempt to hide it. This however only made it harder not to think about it as the soft fabric pressed against her scales. The new sensations mixed in her like a cocktail as her claws reached for the tabs, her face beginning to blush.
The diaper stayed firmly secured, much to the dragoness’ dismay as she tugged and the padding crinkled at each attempt. “Gah! I thought they might be cute, I didn’t mean I wanted to wear one!” She said to herself as she continued to shift and pull to no avail. The fact that her imagination wasn’t letting her take it off conflicted with how embarrassed she was feeling. Then after another failed attempt, her gaze fell upon her lava hot tub. “Oh yeah?! Well I’ll show you who's boss!” She boasted with a smirk across her face. Her confidence wavered almost immediately as her new spread gait caused her to lose her balance. “Wow!” She wobbled from foot to foot, her arms pinwheeling as she tried to get a proper stance. Forgetting to use her tail to counter her weight, the dragoness suddenly fell backwards, landing on her padded bottom with a puff of air.
While unharmed, the action had caused Smolder's cheeks to flush even harder as it helped emphasize how cushioned the garment was. Was she finding it… comfy? She shook her head to try and clear the bashful thought, although it was hard to ignore.
Getting back to her feet, Smolder groaned, needing a few more steps before she figured out how to walk and hearing a crinkle with each one. She stubbornly refused to go onto all fours though, even if it might be easier to do so. By the time she had crossed the room to the hot tub, she’d found a proper rhythm, feeling almost a tinge of pride (not that she would admit it). Once at the tub, she climbed up the small steps, taking in the pleasant sulfuric bubbles. She smirked as she slid down into the bath, loving the extra warmth and texture against her scales. Her embarrassment was almost forgotten as she chilled, confident that her idea would work.
Slumping into lava, Smolder dipped down until only her head was showing, letting her muscles relax. “Mmm, much better.” The mineral lava bath distracted her for several minutes, until she realized that the cushy sensation hadn’t vanished like she’d thought it would!
Climbing out of the tub, Smolder shook some of the lava off before staring down with bewilderment. Not only was the diaper still firmly in place, but it had also changed patterns, with cute, multicolor gems now scattered across its surface. These were apparently what ponies called “wetness indicators”, to make it easier to tell when a diaper had been used and needed to be changed.
“Oh come on!” Smolder’s claw pressed into the padding, finding it still bone dry and thus leaving her baffled at how this place fully worked. At least on the other side of things there was no chance of any sort of accidents since eating and drinking had no real effects. She crossed her arms as her face scrunched, eyes glancing at the ever-present oak door that represented the exit. Seconds later she shook her head while stomping her feet. She was no quitter, she would figure this situation out no matter what it took.
“Come on, Smolder, just think of something else!” Smolder muttered to herself, rubbing the sides of her head in an attempt to focus. Her thoughts slowly drifted back to the times at the park, remembering the large sandbox. She’d seen a few colt or fillies playing in it, making little towers with buckets and plastic shovels, reminiscent of the few times she and her friends had gone to the beach. There was just something nice about the feeling of wet sand between her claws.
As she closed her eyes in an attempt to focus further, the dragoness felt the ripple within the space and once she opened her eyes she saw the new addition. Where a large open spot had once been now sat a red painted sandbox with an accompanying small plastic shovel and bucket. “Y-yeah, that, let’s try that.” She said, hoping the distraction would be enough.
However, with every step she took towards the sandbox, it became harder for Smolder to ignore the garment as she heard every crinkle as clear as day and, a brief look into the mirror showed off just how much of a waddling toddler she was being right now. Even what she was planning to do could be considered childish behaviour, but she was too flustered to care. The relatively short walk across the room was enough time for her to grasp how her apparel felt. When she’d finally plonked herself onto her knees in the soft sand, her cheeks were still red as tomatoes.
The dragoness found it hard to parse the feelings bubbling in her as she picked up the shovel and began to fill the bucket. A soft hum escaped her lips as she did the simple task, her blush fading for the moment. Flipping the bucket over, she made her first little tower of sand, smashing it down with her claws while letting out a playful roar. She almost didn’t notice the faint sounds of crashing waves playing in her ears as she moved to make another tower.
Minutes went by in a blur as Smolder smashed and scooped, her tail swishing every so often. Only after eight or so buckets did she pause her fun and slowly stand back up, dusting off sand from her scales. The diaper, however, was still there, its round shape teasing her. But unlike the previous time, she felt different about it. Was she getting used to it? The dragoness shook her head, the faint, flushed cheeks returning. “Really? You’re still there. Fine, new plan!” Her claws circled the sides of her head as the dragoness tried to rack her brain for a new idea as she peered at her reflection.
Moments later like a light switch had been flipped, the idea came to Smolder. Granted, she wasn’t entirely sure how this place worked, but it was her best guess: Clothes. If wandering thoughts had made the diaper appear, surely all she had to do was imagine something else to wear. Bending her knees in preparation for a jump, she focused her thoughts on the first outfit she knew of best. “School of Friendship!” She declared, hopping into the air and spreading her arms wide in a cheer. As she landed with a faint crinkle she blinked in confusion at nothing happening at first before doing it again but this time imagining the crowds of ponies and the exciting buckball game from just last week.
While in mid-air, Smolder felt the ripples pass through the room, hardly feeling a thing before she landed while posing on one leg. Peering down, she let out another cheer upon seeing her cheerleader outfit, along with the matching pom poms held in her claws. “Oh yeah! Now that’s cool.” The dragoness was too enthusiastic at her discovery to ponder whether it had worked as intended, simply imagining all the new possibilities she could do. Maybe even her princess dress for later. But for now she felt renewed, so full of energy as her previous embarrassment subsided for the time.
Beaming wide, the dragoness stood up straight before standing on one leg and doing a cheer whilst shaking the pompoms around. “Woohoo!” The room filled with her cheering as she crisscrossed it, doing cartwheels and flips, hearing the crowds cheering along with her! The moment of escape was a well-deserved reprieve, only slowing down after a few minutes as she caught her breath, stopping by the mirror as she landed. Once she’d calmed herself enough, her gaze peered down at her skirt and hesitated for a second before she lifted it to check. Baffling enough, the garment was still there, her mind already imagining what other creatures would have thought if they’d seen it peeking out whenever she did a stunt.
In the blink of an eye, Smolder’s claws zoomed downward, tugging the hem of the skirt as the blush returned with a flurry! “Eeep, I can explain!” The situation bubbled in her head like a fresh stew, even hearing mutters from students who weren’t there. Whispers from parents caused Smolder to close her eyes and let out an adorable squeak.
With how caught up in her fantasy she was, Smolder didn’t notice the cave ripple with magic once more until a soft yet faintly familiar voice spoke to her. “Aww, it’s okay. Little Smolder is just having fun.”
“W-what?!” Smolder gasped as she turned around and gazed upon the adult dragoness with soft orange scales and a white belly. The size comparison left the young dragon feeling smaller than usual as she kept trying in vain to hide the diaper from view. She hadn’t thought about her mother in ages, at least not since before her molt. It simply wasn’t part of dragon culture, but ponies apparently loved their family ties. The warm smile and amber eyes made Smolder feel less embarrassed, the mindscape influenced by her time at the school. “I, uhm, hehe.” She tried to find the words, but felt too flummoxed to do so as she stood there like a deer in the headlights.
The mother dragon smiled as she slowly stretched her claw across the space between them, moving behind Smolder and gently pressing her forward. The massive claw was almost as big as the young dragon’s back, which only helped to add to her feeling smaller. The sensation doubled when the diaper gave off crinkles with every little nudge and waddling step. Within a few short moments, Smolder found herself delicately pressed against the large warm belly, a wave of calmness washing over her.
The cave was quiet for a few seconds with only the sounds of soft breathing heard. After a while, Smolder eventually found her voice. “I’m n-not a baby.” Her whole face now flushed red as she tried to wiggle back. However, the motherly dragon’s claw was more than a match for Smolder’s size, and when it became clear she wasn’t going anywhere, Smolder’s movements slowed. She couldn’t deny it, it did feel rather nice to press against the stomach, reminding her of the times she would sunbathe on a smooth rock.
Smolder continued hugging against the belly as the adult dragoness pulled forward her tail, soon acting like a cushion for the young one to sit on. As she sat down, her diapered bottom gave out another few crinkles while she shifted about to get comfy. When she finally got comfortable, the adult cooed down at her. “Aww, it’s okay. You’ve had a long day, little one. How does a nice nap together sound?” At the same time, one of the large claws softly rubbed Smolder’s back ever so carefully.
Like a spell, Smoulder melted into the embrace, muttering something as she pressed herself against the warm chest. The pleasant heat combined with the soothing back rubs was the perfect combo as the young dragoness slowly closed her eyes, with any questions about how it was all happening simply evaporating into bliss. The steady heartbeat soothed her as she shifted, murmuring to herself as she felt drowsy, calm and at peace. Seconds passed before Smolder managed one simple word before she drifted off, a smile upon her snout. “Mommy.”
Smolder’s eyes steadily fluttered open sometime later, the wall of warm scales still embracing her one side. She shifted on the soft seat, hearing the rustling sounds as she smacked her lips, muttering to herself on how sleeping in a mind space worked. As she leaned away from the warmth and rubbed her eyes, she was soon awake enough to remember everything as the large dragoness smiled back at her. Rocking side to side for a moment, she started to blush all over again as she lifted up the skirt to look. “It’s still there! Mmm!” Her face scrunching up rather cutely.
The dragoness ignored the short outburst, stretching her neck forward before lightly kissing Smolder’s forehead. “It’s alright, young one, I think it’s time for you to go, don’t you think?” Using one of her long claws, she gently petted the spines.
Smolder waved her claws around, feeling all flustered. “H-hey! Cut it out!” She squeaked, embarrassed as she looked over at the simple wooden door that led out of there. Part of her wanted her to stay and embrace the cuddles for just a bit longer, while another knew that the easiest way to make it stop was to leave and come back later. Her eyes traced along the guards of the garment while her claw poked at the middle, trying to make up her mind for what felt like a few minutes before she felt another light poke to her tummy. Grabbing into the claw with both of hers, she glanced upwards into the warm eyes of the adult. “Uhm, yeah. I guess so.”
The adult dragoness kept up her happy smile as she set Smolder on the ground, giving the crinkly bottom a few pats and nudging her forward. Smolder flicked her tail before walking towards the door. Each step induced a waddle, which made the crossing feel stretched out. Was the padding thicker? She wasn’t sure, but soon reached the door and gazed back at the motherly dragon as she pulled the door open. The dragon cooed at the young one. “Aww, who knows, maybe I’ll be here when you return.”
Grasping her claw around the knob, Smolder pulled open the door, peering at the white void beyond. She slid her foot on the floor as she sheepishly gave a wave back. “Uhm, s-sure, maybe.” Part of her hoped it would be true, while another just wished she knew how this book worked. The two kept eye contact for a second longer before the dragon turned back and waddled into the void.
The alarm next to the bed ticked softly as Smolder's eyes flashed lightly for a moment as she left the magical trance, shaking her head as the blush tinted her cheeks within moments. Quickly peering down at herself, she let out a sigh of relief upon seeing nothing at all. “Well, that was… something.” She muttered, quickly shoving the journal back under her pillow and recalling the motherly dragon clear as day. It was hard to stop thinking about it as a short glance at the clock proved that it had only been a minute since she used her journal.
Before she could puzzle it together further, the door soon opened as Ocellus came in with a smile. “I found the book we need,” She declared before looking towards Smolder and was quick to notice the faint blush. “Something wrong?”
Smolder quickly scrambled to her feet, patting herself down before standing straight. “No, just… thinking about something. It’s fine,” She muttered, hoping that her friend wouldn’t pick up on any lingering emotions as she scampered over to the desk. As the books were opened up, Smolder looked back at her pillow. Figuring that it would be harder to hide it she spoke again. “Okay, I was thinking about pony parenting.”
Ocellus tapped her chin with a smile. “Yeah, I guess it would be different than what you’re used to.”
“Definitely. It really does put things into perspective, I suppose.” Smolder said before the two laughed together before starting their homework. Maybe the next session wouldn’t be so bad after all. There were so many things she couldn’t wait to try.

Points if you know which artworks I based the scenes on XD The motherly scene, however, was my own thing.
