Scootaloo’s downfall
It seemed such a perfect life, just another filly, not a worry in the world to cloud her day.
The day was hot for autumn, the leaves in Equestria had just begun to turn into shades of red, orange and yellow and it was beautiful. Scootaloo was saying goodbye to her mother, she looked so happy, thus making her filly happy as she trotted away towards school.
Scootaloo was just so filled with bliss, her dad had just gotten a raise, she was actually getting good grades, she had a sort of “date” with her idol, Rainbow Dash, and she had found the warm embrace that comes with love.
School was now at eyes reach, as were Sweetiebell and Applebloom, who approached her from the opposite side. The three cutie mark crusaders entered the class room, laughing and conversing as they always did, just another day, she thought with a smile and sat down waiting for miss Cherrylee to start class.
“Hello everypony, I hope you had a nice weekend, but now it’s time for math!” said the teacher in her naturally calm and cheerful voice.
Her statement was answered with groans, whispers and giggles, though the teacher simply turned her back towards the younglings and started to write on the blackboard.
Until the end of class Scootaloo vouched to keep a more than perfect behavior, as she didn’t want to stay for detention and miss her flying lesson with Rainbow.
It was funny, Rainbow was just such a graceful flier, she couldn’t even believe her ears when that rainbow manned pegasus agreed to teach her how to fly, it was a dream come true.
Class passed by faster than usual, as Scootaloo day dreamt about her lesson with her idol. The bell rang, it was a very annoying bell and it’s ringing always seemed to succeed in making her death for some moments. She exited the school, the sun blinding her for a moment as she said farewell to her friends, heading to the open fields she and rainbow had agreed on meeting.
The field was after sweet apple acres, which was perfect for her, as that was were her crush lived. He was a large and muscular foal, one of Applebloom’s cousins and since she first put eyes on him, she hasn’t been able to stop thinking about him.
As she passed the farm’s fence, a big foal was visible in the distance, next to a much larger stallion, which she deduced was Big Macintosh, apparently he was having a lesson of his own, must be about apple bucking, she thought.
Scootaloo stopped for a moment just to admire the scenery, though as soon as she did Big Mac left, the foal noticed the young filly and decided to stop a bit so he could say hi.
Her heart started beating hard as soon as that strong foal set his gazed towards her. He was quite handsome, his mane was short and ruffled up, it was a dark orange and having a cream coat to accompany its cheerful color.
As he got closer, Scootaloo looked into his eyes, they were a very light yellow, which glowed as the sun’s light reflected the color write out of those two orbs.
She, out of anxiety, was the first to speak “Hi Apple Buckle!” said the filly barely holding in her excitement.
“Howdy there miss Scootaloo, you’re looking mighty fine this day” his voice was a bit deep for his age, with a thick southern accent, which accompanied his ever present grin as he asked “What brings you to these here parts?”
“Nothing much, just going to practice flying with the most awesome pony in all of Equestria!” she let out a squeal as she mentioned Rainbow, she also blushed a little from the compliment, thought it wasn’t visible trough her fur.
“And who might that be?”
“Right, I forgot, you’ve only been her for a few weeks,” said Scootaloo, feeling a bit embareced, “it’s Rainbow Dash, you might have seen her flying around the farm and doing stunts.”
“I recon I have seen a pegasus flying around these parts, she is mighty fast, but I suppose, with practice you can be just as good.” he said with a warm smile and wink.
Scootaloo only nodded, the blush had grown and was now coloring her whole face a bright red. She wasn’t nervous at first, but with those compliment and praises, especially coming from him, it was like her heart wanted to explode and she couldn’t even mutter a single word.
Apple Buckle chuckled a bit at the filly’s reaction and loss of words, so he simply looked at her, he looked deep into those purple eyes, which made him stop his moment of laughter, as he contemplated her beauty, just so he could lean in and give her a small peck on the cheek.
The young filly was caught off guard, the event felt so surreal, yet she was still filled with the warmth of the feeling.
The foal, on the other hoof, simply smiled and said, “Well it was a pleasure making your acquaintance miss Scootaloo, but I better be getting back to work.”
Scootaloo shook her head to regain her focus, saying, “Hum, yeah I’ve got to get going too, hum…s-see you tomorrow?” the filly was just too dazzled and lost in her feelings to even comprehend the foal’s answer. Though she didn’t hear Apple Buckle’s deep and mesmerizing voice, she deduced the answer was yes, from the short answer and smile, as he left so did she continuing her small journey towards the open field.
As she arrived, the scent of fresh grass and wet soil filled her nostrils, it was a beautiful site, so green and far away from the clutches of civilization and modernization, the amazement she felt as unparalleled to anything else. Although this perplexed gaze eventually led to a seemingly impatient cyan pegasus, which made Scootaloo swallow in fear and embarecement as she quickly trotted towards her.
“Sorry Rainbow Dash, I was…was…” the loss of words was predicted, she never was a good liar, specially if she had to lie to her idol “I was talking to a f-friend…” she finally said in a defeated tone, letting her head fall in shame.
Rainbow’s impatience faded away, letting a smirk take it’s place “Don’t worry Scoots, I’ve had your age you know,” she said with a wink, though she quickly put on a more serious expression saying “but try to be on time ok?”
Scootaloo beamed at her hero’s forgiveness, letting out a small squeal “Of course Rainbow, what ever you say!” her voice was very high pitched, which made Dash a bit irritated, never the less, she didn’t show it and only carried on with the lesson.
The lesson ended in a few hours, though the little filly felt exhausted, as she had never used her wings for so long. Despite she being spent, Scootaloo felt great in a sense that she had improved, this was her first lesson and she had already lifted herself off the ground, even if it was just for a few inches, and it felt great, it seemed like nothing could ever wipe that smile from her face.
Sun down was approaching, so Rainbow looked at the filly and offered to walk her home, she only nodded, not able to respond in any other way from the lack of strength.
Both of them trotted in silence, right until they passed sweet apple acres. She loved to simply stare at the farm, as she thought of her love, not realizing the cyan mare next to her, who only chuckled, as she understood the filly’s actions.
“It’s Apple Buckle isn’t it?” said Rainbow with a knowledgeable smile plastered on her face.
Scootaloo immediately stopped, realizing how obvious she must look, being so, she looked at the mare, her cheeks red as the apples that hung on the field’s trees, “That obvious?”
“Yah, that obvious, but a bit cute too, I can already see your little foals running around.” She said laughing so hard she had to hold her stomach and throw herself towards the ground.
The young filly’s blush grew stronger, though all she did was stick out her tong and resume her trot, leaving the cyan pegasus in her state of utter bliss and laughter, which soon died out.
From that moment on, the trot was mostly silent, though there were the occasional chuckles and jokes. As they arrived at the young filly’s home, they shared a hoof bump and said their goodnights.
Scootaloo entered her home, it was a bight red on the outside with an orange color for the roof and four windows, two on the ground floor and two more on the upper floor, the interior was very cozy and simple, though it had a pinch of finesse in the design.
She felt great, life was perfect, except for the fact that she had to take a shower, but other than that, she couldn’t ask for more with out sounding like Diamond Tiara.
Her mother was in the living room, knitting something Scootaloo couldn’t decipher. As usual she entered the room said her hello and gave her a peck on the cheek, to her surprise the only response was silence, though she shrugged it aside not giving it much importance.
The filly entered her room and turned her computer on, as she grabbed a towel to dry herself off after her shower and headed towards her bathroom.
The shower at the end of the day was a welcome change of pace, though for Scootaloo the act of getting soaked just to smell good was a waste of time. She exited the bathroom and headed for her room, which was a few feet away.
Her room was a small one, a small desk for her computer, a bed, a nightstand and a couple of shelves with books, not to mention the amount of Wonderbolt posters that shrouded the purple wallpaper.
A couple of minutes passed by as she played a bit on her PC, though the though of her mother’s silence kept coming back to bug her. Not a moment passed by as she got up to check on her mother, the door flung open and a familiar voice was heard.
“Were the buck are you mare!” she heard, the voice was so stained that she couldn’t figure out who it was and in fear she decided to wait in silence “Scootaloo! Come here and help your dad!”
Scootaloo’s fear intensified and she just curled up on the floor shivering in fear, “Silver Star, stop! Can’t you see this isn’t you, you’re drunk!” screamed her mother. Scootaloo started crying from the intense screaming and fear, though as a few moments passed only silence was heard, which made her lift herself up from the ground and investigate.
As she made her way threw the stairs, only darkness greeted her, it seemed somepony had turned them off. Scootaloo turned them on and entered the living room, there was nopony in sight, so she passed threw it and entered the kitchen, which had I’s light turned off as well. Though she felt as if she had her hoof wet, but discarded it as her imagination and proceeded to illuminate that section of the household.
The scene she behold was of pure gore, her mother was on her back, blood streaming out of the back of her head, as for her father, he had a knife impaled in his chest.
Scootaloo’s eyes started to water and as she fell to the ground, the same ground that was now soaked in the red liquid, which now covered her fur and nuzzle and finally made her run in terror.
After a few minutes of running aimlessly threw the town of Ponyvile covered in blood, Scootaloo spotted a familiar tree house and that same tree house would be her shelter for the night, thought she wouldn’t get any sleep, not today, not ever.
