A Mesmerizing Adventure
Chapter One: Unexpected Journey
Load Full StoryNext ChapterI typed away on my laptop, letting out a long yawn. Exhaustion was evident in my expression as I inhaled deeply and exhaled a sigh.
"Alright, another fic is done... How many hours have even passed?" I muttered to myself, glancing at the time on my laptop.
2 AM.
"Dammit. It’s already that late? I guess you never notice when you're absorbed in your work."
"You could say that again!" a voice stated amusedly, ending in a deep laugh.
For a moment, the exhaustion left my body entirely as a sudden adrenaline surge coursed through me. My eyes widened.
"What? Who’s there?" I called out, my pulse quickening. "I know I’m sleep-deprived… maybe even hallucinating… but I know I heard something.”
I pushed myself up from my chair, scanning my dark room. The soft hum of my box fan, ceiling fan and my AC filled the silence with white noise. Behind me, my dresser was cluttered with various objects—an empty cup, a container of lotion for my dry skin, my Xbox carrier, a candle, my wallet, and my T-Mobile router. My track and field medals hung proudly above it. Nearby stood my closet door, its surface marred by a few holes, haphazardly covered with drywall plaster. The holes were fist-shaped.
A hamper overflowed with clothes, and a plastic bag filled with empty energy drink cans hung from the closet door knob.
"No, you’re not mistaken, my dear fellow!" the voice continued, dripping with theatrical amusement. "Of course, it's a bit of a bother to keep this going, so let me cut straight to the case. I am—well, not that I need an introduction— Anyway, I am Discord! Yes, the one and only. the Lord of Chaos. But enough of that. I want to see you… with a few modifications, of course… take over a certain protagonist’s life. He failed his deal, so I simply sought another candidate.”
The voice paused for dramatic effect.
"You see, you fit the description perfectly. And despite the… restrictive nature in your own work—oh yes, I’ve seen the things you’ve written—you are simply awful, by the way, and that’s saying a lot coming from me." A low chuckle followed. "But I’m getting off track, friend. The point is, you will assume a role in that universe and finish what he could not."
"Wait—whoa, hold the hell up." I took a step back, my voice tinged with alarm, my voice was shallow with uncertainty and nervousness "Lord of Chaos? Discord?”
My stomach twisted with a mix of dread and disbelief. I knew what this being was capable of. But how was he here? I had assumed there could be a chance, through the infinite possibilities of the multiverse, it wasn’t impossible that somewhere out there, a version of Equus existed—along with a very real god of chaos. What were the odds? Maybe I should start playing the lottery.
"The one and only!" Discord declared proudly. "But that’s neither here nor there. I see you running that muscle within your skull—none of that now! Just accept my terms and conditions, and I’ll whisk you away to that universe!”
With a poof, he appeared right in front of me, his mismatched claws gripping my shoulders.
"Uh… what’s the catch?" I asked warily. I knew this guy was a walking cursed scroll. Nothing he said could be taken at face value.
“Well, of course you’d be like that," he sighed dramatically. "Not everyone jumps for joy when the lord of chaos comes knocking at their door. But worry not! I anticipated your skepticism and took the liberty of drafting a contract! I know, not my usual way of handling things. Times change sometimes. Regardless, you wouldn’t help otherwise.”
With a snap of his fingers, a parchment materialized before me, floating mid-air. A quill hovered beside it. Discord’s fanged grin separated from his face—literally— and his smile appeared beside the contract, detached from his body.
I took a look at the document and tried my best to read it over. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, the simple stuff. “In the event of your death, or you fail to do your duty, or you happen to be hypnotized, you will be reset.” Then I noticed something that caught my eye more than the other clauses.
“If you happen to fail to hypnotize someone, then they will be unable to be hypnotized by you again, if you have someone else do this for you, then that’s a loophole you are permitted.” Discord smirked. “Simply just take over Equestria and I will consider your duty done. If this clause is destroyed you will suffer in one of the grimdark universes I have set up, rather than the one you set up.” he said.
I blinked, and weighed my options, "I… don’t really have any objections," I said slowly. "But no foals. Period." I glared at the god of chaos, I wished my eyes could shoot daggers.
Yes, yes, you and your morals," Discord sighed, waving a dismissive claw. "Fine, I’ll add that to the clause." With another snap, the contract shimmered briefly, the amendment magically appearing. "Now then, just sign on the dotted line, and off you go!”
I took a deep breath, looking around my room one last time. My laptop screen was still open—displaying the twelfth chapter of my Fallout fic.
“…Fine, you bastard," I muttered. "I'll take your terms. This place is boring anyway, and I have always found hypnosis an interesting concept to explore…”
But before I signed, I hesitated.
"One last thing. I get it—I’ll have to face the consequences in this version of Equestria. But… will this affect some kind of record on a bigger multiversal scale?” I said, my eyes looking him dead in the eye.
Discord's grin widened.
"I won’t disclose that to the likes of you," he said, eyes twinkling with amusement. "Maybe I'll be more interested in answering once you get going on your little adventure.”
"It’s never easy, is it?" I sighed, shaking my head. "Well, fuck me. I'll play your game… Not that I really have a choice, knowing you.”
I grabbed the quill and, with a deep breath, scrawled my name across the parchment.
"Wise choice, mortal…" Discord purred.
And then, everything began to fade.
Not just him.
The entire world.
Darkness consumed my vision, and Discord’s laughter echoed through the void.
I had no idea what kind of adventure I was about to face.
The memory of the fic Discord hinted at—the one I was supposed to assume the lead role of—was hazy. Heck, it was down right blank.
Oh well, at least soon, I would find out what he meant by modifications…
Author's Note
Okay so this chapter was well and reciprocated extremely nicely. However, it is with a heart that I say, if I don’t get an editor to help with this fic, you guys might not see chapter two. It’s written already. However it needs to be edited…
