Wrathtail Bloodmane

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The morning was a familiar one to Wrathtail, the night before was buried in a sea of liquor, her body was sticky with sweat, her head rang with the familiar feeling of hangover and she felt as if she’d swallowed black powder. As Wrathtail slowly rose from under the covers of her bed, or rather the bed she was in, she noticed a figure wrapped warmly beside her. Lifting up the sheets revealed an attractive woman with exotic bronze skin and long royal purple hair. Smirking to herself in triumph Wrathtail noted her victory over the unconquerable easterner before pulling her tired body out from beneath the sheets.

Sluggishly trudging along, Wrathtail acquired her scattered property that had been haphazardly tossed along the floor in a passionate attempt to hurry her bedding of the woman. Though few, the things Wrathtail had were hers and she liked to keep a hold of them, among them were her trusty Katana, another eastern object she’d conquered during her training, next was her spell book, covered in food stains with handwriting even she failed to comprehend at time, and old, tattered blue robes. Picking the robes up she gave them a husky sniff, a misplay on her part as the putrid scent crawled up her nostrils and down her mouth, causing her to wretch as the smell and taste of sweat, mead, old bits of food and vomit clung to her nose and mouth. Shaking off the scent the woman decided it would be best to just put it on regardless instead of wander the streets naked… again.

As she finished clothing herself and attaching the book and blade to her waist she turned, noticing last nights lover fidgeting but fortunately asleep as she made her way out of her one night stands home. Smirking Wrathtail began to wander out into the paved streets of New Krayan, with the hopes of a bath, or more preferably work, in her near future; however something clicked with the woman as she remembered her true life as a pony in Equestria “Woah, what the hay!” she shouted as she rapidly remembered everything up to that point. Blinking twice the woman finally figured this was either Luna’s doing, or the result of those chocolate covered pretzels she greedily wolfed down, but either way she was here and ready to do… “What the hay do I do exactly.” the woman spoke out loud again, crossing her arms as passerby’s stared at her.

Realizing she must look strange Wrathtail did what she knew was socially acceptable, she jutted her neck out and screamed “The hay you lookin’ at, can a woman not talk to herself!” angrily, causing her onlookers to hurry away. With that settled the woman wandered around for a bit as she began to recall her location and some of the things around them, though recall would be unfair as it felt more like the memories and thoughts were finding their way into her head, either way she knew two things; she needed drink and work, and with that in mind she headed off for the pub.

In the dirtier parts of New Krayan stood a pub as wretched and unclean as Wrathtail’s clothes and it's name was the Grimey Cobblestone, favorite hangout of mercs and criminals alike, even though most criminals there were likely pursued by the mercs that also called the pub their home.

Walking towards the door of the establishment, Wrathtail stopped to examine herself in the window, her light, toned, agile physique complimented her fast paced combat style, as did her short cut prismatic hair which was kept so as to prevent it from distracting her while she had her way with a variety of monsters and men alike. Appreciating how she looked she smugly moved forward. Bursting open the doors of the building, Wrathtail walked as if to demand respect, marching over to a stool that stood in front of the bar, pulling up a seat beside some blonde woman with freckles wearing a large brown, somewhat familiar hat and matching brown duster.

“Howdy stranger.” Said Wrathtail’s neighbor, who was cradling a mug of drink in her left hand.

“ ‘Sup toots, say do I know you?” Wrathtail asked with a squint of her eyes as she began to examine the other woman.

“Nope, ah reckon ya don’t.” Said the woman before she stood up and walked away out of the bar.

“What’s her problem?” Wrathtail asked with a tone of annoyance.

“Well, for one you’ve made an enemy of every woman in town, somehow.” Said a husky female voice that rang familiar to the merc magus. Turning, Wrathtail saw the familiar plump face of Brenda Williams, a larger woman dressed in a simple pink dress with a white apron over top, her round face topped with a lazy bun accompanied with thick mannish eyebrows “In addition, you’re just not pleasant to be around, considering the smell of course.”

“Brenda, long time no see!” Wrathtail said excitedly, brushing aside the snide comment about her natural musk “I’ll have the usual.”

“We spoke yesterday before you ran off with that tawdry wench.” The larger woman said as she began to pull out several bottles “And when you say the usual, you mean half my bar.”

“No, when I say the usual I mean the entire bar.” Wrathtail joked with a smile.

“Sure, so long as you can pay.”

“Psh, I told you, I just got paid big for clearing out some goblins the other day, let me just…” she said as she reached for her coin purse before realizing it wasn’t there “Uh…”

“You were saying?” the woman quipped, crossing her arms.

“I know I had it, where could it have gone! I know it was attached to my robes, and I haven’t taken them off since…” Wrathtail’s face went pale as the azure eyes of a bronze skinned beauty leading her into a small cottage popped into her head “That… that thieving…”

With a sigh, Brenda began to pour the contents of several bottles into a mug and passed it to the angry woman “You’re doing me a favor.”

“Hell ya, so you do have work!” Wrathtail exclaimed before snatching the mug and taking a long drink

“Nothing hard, but it’ll pay. Just need a shipment protected on it’s way out of town to Atrium. Think you can handle that?”

Slamming the mug down the rowdy woman wiped her face “Hell ya, and here’s to hoping I get some blood on my steel this time.”

“I’m sure you’ll get the chance, the job starts next week, early monday morning, be there on time and you’ll be off. Supply’s like rations, water-skins, torches are already taken care of.”

“Pay?”

“25 gold up front, 25 on return and whatever you get on the bodies of any bandits you merc on the way out.”

“What am I hauling?”

“Just some brew; I’ve got a deal with a merchant that way and he liked my drink, wants to try it out in the town to see if it’ll sell.”

“Consider me in.” Wrathtail passed the mug back to the woman and stood up “Right now, I’ve got to go get my gold back from a certain easterner.” she said vindictively as she marched out.

Before she could make her way out of the bar, however, she felt the world around her shake, at first she blamed the ale but on closer inspection she realized it was more than that as she burst through the door awkwardly stumbling as she did. Once she got out she quickly scanned around, noticing people panicking as they rushed out of their homes. As the shaking intensified Wrathtail stumbled unevenly before everything suddenly went purple. Wrathtail reached for her eyes and gripped them, cursing as she blindly ran into a wooden beam near the bar, the sound of collapsing buildings echoed out around accompanied by a familiar sound, the sound of magic forced into the world. As sight began to return to her she opened her eyes, they widened in horror as the blinding purple was now replaced by a spiraling tower of raw energy as it tore the sky asunder...
