Dungeons and Dragons: Curse of the Lunar Fang
Jessebelle
Previous ChapterNext ChapterIt was dawn. Jessebelle knew it was dawn because she felt like crap, she was all too hot and her eyes were sore from excess sunlight. Definitely dawn. Opening her eyes she was quick to tip her hat down further, keeping the pervasive rays from blinding her further, it was bad enough her neck was sore from using a rock as a pillow, she didn’t need to go blind too. Lazily, but surely, the woman began to get herself off the dirt, first she pulled herself into a sitting position with a loud grunt as her body, weary from travel, didn’t appreciate the sudden shifts even at her young age. “Ugh, what tahm is it…” she said with a yawn before she blinked “As a matter a’fact, where’m…” as if remembering for the first time the woman blinked two more times “Raht, that there game. An th’spell. Ugh, why does magic alway make me wanna vomit.”
Now curious, Jessebelle began to explore her new form, it was definitely like those humans in the picture, the long legs and arms, pale hairless skin, hands instead of hooves. Now that she clarified that much she began to take in the details, from her large baggy leather pants up to her brown leather vest which clung snugly to a chain vest beneath it, on her feet were classic cowstallion boots, spurs and all with matching brown leather gloves and to make the look complete, on her head was the traditional hat. “Not bad, ah must say.” she stood and brushed herself off, shaking her head to loosen her neck, causing a long blond pony tail to whip back and forth. “Hmm, not entirely sure what ahm s’pose to be doin’, though ah have an inklin’ ahm headed that way.”
Before setting off the woman began to brush herself off further before she brushed against something on her hip, and she was sure she knew what it was as she turned to stare at the six shooter at her side, and if she recalled it was a piece of junk, which it was, but she took comfort in the fact it was her piece of junk. “Well, hello dere, ah reckon you an me have a history.” she pulled the large, deadly piece of metal from it’s leather holster and began to examine it, it was a traditional six shooter, though it only had about four of those six shots loaded into it “Damn, almost outta shell, need’ta make some more… but iffen ah recall, and I recall quite a bit oddly enough, the town ahm after ain’t much fer hostilities. Ah should get along fine, and if not I should…” the woman knelt down to examine her boot and sure enough there was a dagger inside of it “Good, well, no tahm fer wastin’” she assured herself as she continued on her way.
The journey was short lived as she did, infact, come upon the town in about 30 minutes “Ah knew ah shoulda checked over that there ridge last night, now ah got this krick in mah neck…” she complained with a sigh “Welp, a tired body such as mine deserves a bit of somethin’ to ease the tension.” she muttered as she scanned the area until her eyes fell upon a man in official looking armor standing at the gate, the gate itself was just a simple arch and wide open at that. Ready for some piss warm ale and cold food the woman walked over to the guard. “Howdy.”
The guard returned the greeting with a nod.
“Ah don’t reckon yalls have a saloon where a weary travela can get a drink or nine do ya?”
“Ahm sorry miss, what’s a saloon?” the mans equally thick cockney accent making it clear there was a division in their ability to fully comprehend one another.
“Yalls know, a place t’get a drank.”
“Ah, a pub. You can get yerself drunk down at the Grimey Cobblestone, ah’d give you directions but just follow the smell of booze and disappointment, you’ll come across it.”
“Much obliged.” she thanked the guard with a tip of her hat and walked further into the town. To the player, it was just like Canterlot, large, made of stone, and filled with too many rich, snobs to care about, but to the character it was unlike what she was used to. Instead of wooden houses and sandy streets she was in a town of stone, though it wasn’t her first town like this, it was the largest and by far the most impressive as at it’s heart stood a massive castle that reached high into the sky and demanded respect from her and all of it’s citizens. “Yeah, but ain’t it just overcompensatin’ fer somethin’ else?” she said aloud with a smirk, confusing those who heard her, but that didn’t phase the outsider. Instead she worked her way forward, head ducked low in an attempt to go unnoticed, though considering her appearance it did little to help as eyes from all over were glued to her appearance.
Annoyed, the women's attention was on her watchers instead of her path as she felt her head ram into a large, hard metal surface, knocking her down. Shaking her head Jessebelle looked up to see a massive woman clad in solid pink armor clasp over a massive, almost unwieldy frame who atop that was a soft, gentle face with one big blue eye, the other presumably covered by long, soft looking pink hair. “Oh it’s y…” stopping mid sentence Jessebelle realized -she- didn’t know this woman, and since she wanted to play the game right, she stood and nodded at the woman before walking away
.
“Sorry!” was all Jessebelle heard as she departed from the giant of a woman.
‘Jeeze...’ Jessebelle thought to herself ‘Did she have to be so big? Well, she is about that big in real life… in a matter of speakin’
Trying to forget about her shy friend Jessebelle made her way around and surely enough on gut instinct alone she somehow followed the faint feeling of hopeless despair to her destination, the Grimey Cobblestone. It was a shitstain of a building, dirty, unpleasant, surely afflicted with the plague, yet it had a charm, like that toothless stallion by the bridge who pees in the river and asks for bits whenever someone passes by ‘Ok, so iffen ah recall, yalls can get some interestin’ information outta place lahk dis’ she nodded to herself assuredly before stepping in.
The Grimey Cobblestone was as advertised, there was cobblestone, it was certainly grimey, and hey, there might even be a ‘the’ somewhere in here. Jessebelle’s entrance was met with immediate stares, the girl was a sore thumb among the armor clad, sword wielding men, but she knew that bit from the get go. Deciding she wanted her character to be cocky, Jessebelle stepped forward, smirk on her face as she sat at the counter, pulling out a small satchel of silver pieces and placing it with authority. The jingling of coin brought the immediate attention of a heavier woman, who turned to her new customer with a smile “Well, well, I do hope that’s money and not more empty promises like the rest of these sorry drunks.”
Deciding her character was a serious type, Jessebelle just said “Make if strong.”
“No time for small talk I see.” the woman smirked at the gunslinger and moved to prepare a drink “I’m Brenda and by your appearance alone I'm sure you're here for more then liquor, yes?”
Brenda’s observations impressed Jessebelle to an extent, causing a small smile to form “Ah reckon you got me pegged.” she said as Brenda placed a large stout in front of Jessebelle “Ya, ahm here, er…” Jessebelle, or rather her player, got stuck mid sentence as she tried to come up with a fitting response “Ah, yeah, ahm here for, uh, work.” she said, stumbling over her own words ‘Smooth Applejack, smooth…’
“Uh-huh, well you’re in luck. I need a wagon taken to another town nearby. 25 up front, 25 on return, supplies will be given to you for the trip.” Jessebelle considered the bartenders words as she guzzled down the brew which, despite the name of the establishment, was damn good.
“When can ah get that gold?” she asked, remembering her near empty six shooter.
“The day you start, not a moment sooner.” Brenda said sternly
“Hmm, ah reckon I won’t be doin’ much til’ then.” She muttered causing Brenda to perk a brow
“What’s that mean?”
Prompted by her question, Jessebelle pull out her gun, giving it a few twirls for effect before plodding down on the bar before her “Ahm low on ammo, can’t shoot without bullets.”
“So, this is a gun huh, I’ve heard about them, how does it work?” Brenda asked as she reached for it, stopping short as a leather bound hand snatched the weapon away
“Well, to make it short, I pull this here…” she pointed out the trigger “And whoever I find a distaste for at that particular moment stops breathin’ “ she said with certainty
“I see, well, let me see what I can do. I think I know someone who can get you some bullets, after all, can’t have you doing a job unarmed.” She said with a smile before walking off
“Much obliged.” Jessebelle tipped her hat and began at her drink again before she heard someone walk into the bar, which was an understatement considering the pubs door swung open loudly. Turning, Jessebelle instantly recognized her pigheaded friend, or, she would if they weren’t in the game, but they were so she didn’t ‘Ugh, this whole game thang is gettin’ confusin’ ‘ she thought briefly as the rainbow haired woman who had just entered the bar marched to a seat beside her.
“Howdy stranger.” Jessebelle said to Rain- to the strange, never before seen woman.
“ ‘Sup toots, say do I know you?” Wrathtail asked with a squint of her eyes as she began to examine Jessebelle.
“Nope, ah reckon ya don’t.” Jessebelle said curtly, feeling a little hurt one of her best friends didn’t recognize her, even in the confines of the game. With that, she stood and left the pub with haste.
Now back on the street of New Krayan, Jessebelle decided to explore a bit, after all, it wasn’t often one gets to explore a city of this size. Taking the opportunity Jessebelle moved forward with hungry, however, just as she passed an inconspicuous man she felt a brush against her back side. Taking it for a pickpocket she reached her hand back and patted her self, turning all the while shouting “You no good varmint, come back with mah…” she began before she felt something jingling in her hand, surprisingly it was her coins “Huh, guess he was just a perv… wait, was ah just felt up!” she shouted and turned fully, only to find a whopping amount of nothing “Gone, well, no harm done ah reckon.” she muttered, continuing to search her possessions, though nothing was out of place.
Shrugging Jessebelle took one more step forward before she felt the world begin to shake. Wondering briefly if it had something to do with her lech, she pushed it aside, favoring concentrating on balancing herself, though she’d find the position was not in the least auspicious as the sound of crackling wood and stone was followed by a nearby building falling toward her. In an incredible display of agility she leapt out of the way as the home finished it’s tumble down to the streets. Just as she thought things couldn’t get worse, they got worse when her vision was violently, and suddenly filled with blinding light. Falling on her back, she gripped her eyes and began to roll in pain “You rassin’ frassin’ sonofa…” she yelled angrily until he vision restored. Opening her eyes, the unthinkable was before her “Damn, it got worse again…” as a purple, spiraling tower of energy pervaded the sky...
