An illness is gradually weakening Pinova Crisp, the grandmother of Apple Fritter. She has accepted the possibility of death and found solace in the thought that she lived a fulfilled life, but is still saddened that she will lose the rest of her beloved family. The same cannot be said for Apple Fritter. Before her imminent death, however, it would seem that she has one last request.
