Captain Twilight Sparkle, freelance skysailor, has always prided herself on keeping to the letter of the law. Mostly. But when she discovers the Council has hired her old enemy, the pirate captain Breeze Splinter, to privateer for them, she decides enough is enough. Leading her crew to the downtrodden town of Baron Ridge, Twilight stands up to the council for the sake of the oppressed townsfolk - and of the dragon that Splinter has cruelly enslaved…

Heavily inspired by The Edge Chronicles, The Flight of the Sun Mare is an introductory story that I'm working on alongside Immortal Coil, helping me keep things fresh. The Edge Chronicles isn't you're standard cyberpunk or steampunk - it's actually its own genre, which I can only describe as weatherpunk or even woodpunk - if you've read it, you'll know what I mean. If you haven't WHY AREN'T YOU READING IT RIGHT NOW? Start with Stormchaser. If you're a fan of the series, you may spot elements of Cloud Wolf, The Stone Pilot and The Immortals in this tale, although there's probably influences from all fourteen entries.

This story is the introductory tale for a world I'd like to build that I would describe as gempunk - that is, the technology there is powered by gemstones. If well received, I will write a full-length entry when this one is finished.

(Note: this story will not be released in instalments like Immortal Coil. It's going to be substantially shorter, and will be released in one go, but not all in one chapter.)
