Luna's moon shone down upon the street. Not a soul was about, except for one pony, slipping out of her house. The ivory pony wore a large sunhat, scarf, and big, dark, sunglasses. Her cutie mark was covered by a good deal of white flower applied to her flank. The pony's head whipped around, and she began to walk down the moonlit road. Sweat, rolling off her head, glistened in the light of the waxing moon. When a leaf, floating from a nearby tree, gently landed on her back, she squeaked and bolted into an alley, leaving behind a cloud of flower and some fashionable clothes. From inside the alley, Rarity's eyes surveyed the road. She glanced to the left and right. Seeing nothing, she ran across the road, on the tips of her hooves, and into the alley on the other side. Breathing heavily, with her back up against a building wall, she wiped the sweat off of her forehead. Then she turned around, coming face-to-face with a grey pegasus. Rarity screamed, and put a hoof in front of her mouth. "Derpy! What are you doing out so late?" Rarity whispered, quickly regaining her composure. "I dunno," Derpy said, flapping her wings and soaring off into the street. Rarity blinked, and slipped down the alley. The pale unicorn started to run, she couldn't bare to wait any longer. As she turned a corner, she saw him. His purple scales glistened in the soft moonlight. His beautiful green eyes filled with love when he saw his beautiful sweet. "Rarity!" Spike said, holding his hands behind his back, "I have something for you." "What could it be?" Rarity said, walking up to the purple dragon. Spike simply smiled and held out his hands with a flourish. It was a large, heart-shaped fire ruby, much like the one that he had made himself for his birthday, but instead given to Rarity. "I know how much you like them," Spike said, "So I made another one, just for you!" "Oh Spikey-wikey!" Rarity exclaimed, throwing her hooves around him and planting a passionate kiss on his lips, "You didn't have to do that for me!" "Anything for you," Spike said, kissing Rarity on the cheek. He placed the red gem over her heart. "I love you Spike," Rarity whispered in his ear. She kissed him again, and he wrapped his arms around her neck. They kissed for a long time, until a cough jerked them back to their senses. On the right stood a purple unicorn wearing a blue nightgown, her mane and tail in matching curlers. She didn't look happy at all. "Uh, Twilight, I can explain!" "I can't believe this!" Twilight said, she was out of the nightgown, and only one stray curler still clung to her tail. "My assistant and one of my PFFs! I knew Spike had a little crush on you Rarity, but nothing like this!" Spike and Rarity hung their heads. Twilight was in her Rant Mode again, and she wasn't going to be finished for a long time. "... and why would you do that?!" Twilight finally said, looking up at Rarity and Spike to see them passionately making out once again, Twilight's face began to turn red, and steam poured out of her ears. In a fit of rage, twilight exploded into fire, causing Rarity and Spike to return their attention to her. Almost immediately, she regained her composure. "As I was saying..." Twilight began again, "He's just a baby dragon! It isn't right!" "However, his intellectual age is not that of a baby," Rarity said, cuddling with her lover, "If he was a pony baby, would you really make him work in the library as your assistant?" "well, uh," Twilight put a hoof to her mouth, trying to come up with a reason to stop them from being together. Her purple brow scrunched up as she concentrated, "Well, Spike is a dragon! Dragons and ponies can't be together because of the long life of dragons. Haven't you thought about the consequences!" The beautiful ivory mare gazed into the eyes of her lover, Twilight's words hitting home. They were completely different species. Their love could never be. With a heavy head and a heavy heart, Rarity slowly returned to her home.
