With a moment of hesitation she started reading. Entry 1     Happy Birthday big brother! -Apple Bloom Entry 2     Happy Birthday to me! I had planned to get a head start on apple bucking but my sisters surprised me with some early morning gifts. From AJ I got a toolkit, nothing special but I think it’s her way of telling me I should start fixing up the barn.  From Apple Bloom I got this notebook. It’s a simple red notebook that she took the time to craft an apple that matches my cutie mark. I promised her I would try to use it so here I am. -Big Macintosh Entry 3     Nothing special happened today. -Big Macintosh Entry 4     Nothing happened today either. I think I am going to only write when something special happens. -Big Macintosh Entry 5     Today the Apple family had a reunion. Everypony was here at Sweet Apple Acres to help buck apples and make treats for the Summer Sun Celebration. I met this beautiful young unicorn who was here to supervise prep for the celebration. I was planning on introducing myself but my sister kept cramming her mouth full of food before I could get a chance to talk to her. -Big Macintosh Entry 6     Nightmare Moon returned. The same Nightmare Moon from Granny’s old stories. All I could do was try to calm Apple Bloom down while the night went several hours longer than it should have. All I know is that Applejack disappeared with the gorgeous mare from yesterday and some others, leaving me to try to deal with everything. After waiting for hours in that cold darkness of night, the sun rose over the horizon and AJ and the purple mare returned with Princess Celestia. Of course Pinkie started a party in honour of the princesses. If that mare doesn't throw a party for something then I will be surprised. At first I was confused by the appearance of a second alicorn but apparently Equestria has had a second princess all along and nopony knew. -Big Macintosh Entry 7     I found out her name! The purple one that came from canterlot. Her name is Twilight Sparkle. I like the sound of it. I found this out after I spotted her helping Applejack. The good news is that I found out stuff about Twilight but the bad news is she helped AJ on our little bet. I had to walk down Stirrup Street in one of granny's old girdles. I think AJ spent about twenty minutes picking out the frilliest one she could find. Everypony was staring at me and most were laughing but I hadn't seen Twilight so I may still have a shot with her. -Big Macintosh Entry 8     My side hurts. I hurt it while plowing the fields. I was about half way done when I saw this purple flower that reminded me of Ponyville’s most beautiful unicorn. I was staring at that flower and tripped on a raised root, causing the plow to topple over on me. On the up side I don’t have to do any work this apple bucking season but I am worried that my sis will overwork herself. I hope she realises she needs help. It would be nice if she brought Twilight back to the farm to help. -Big Macintosh Entry 9     I think I found an excuse to spend more time with Twilight. After Applejack overworked herself today, my sis had all her friends help out harvesting apples. All of them tried to be helpful but Twilight stood out the most by far. Using her magic, she was able to harvest three hours worth of apples in about ten seconds. If I can convince AJ that we need more help on the farm, then I might be able to spend more time with twilight. -Big Macintosh Entry 10     I missed something big. Yesterday some showmare showed up in the middle of town and put up a magic act. She was okay at magic but I didn’t pay much attention to her. This mare “Trixie” made Twilight so uncomfortable that she ran away from the show. I tried to run after her but I didn’t see which way she went. However late at night when everypony was asleep a few stupid colts led an Ursa Major into town. They thought Trixie could handle it but she was nothing but hot air. Eventually it made such a ruckus that it woke up half of Ponyville. When Applejack woke up she didn’t bother to wake me. Because of this, I missed Twilights most amazing magic act yet. If what I heard is true, I am going to have to ask AJ if Twilight would be willing to work on the farm with us. -Big Macintosh Entry 11     I feel like jumping with joy. Applejack successfully talked Twilight into helping out with the farm. They will mostly work with each other as they are friends but if I play my cards right, I may be able to find a nice place to watch her work without being seen. After writing that, it seems a bit stalker-ish. Anyway she starts next week and I can hardly wait. -Big Macintosh Entry 12     What was a dragon doing in Equestria? This morning a huge amount of black smoke started invading the skies of Equestria. As it turned out, a dragon had started to nap and was snoring smoke. Applejack, Twilight and their friends went out on the orders of Princess Celestia. When they got back I heard it was Fluttershy that eventually convinced the dragon to leave but that mare is literally scared of her own shadow. I bet it was Twilight and she was just giving the credit to Fluttershy. -Big Macintosh Entry 13     I spent some time applebucking with Twilight. She did most of the work with her magic but we had a nice chat. I wish I could spend more time with her. -Big Macintosh Entry 14     Yesterday my sis slept at Twilight’s house. Not Applebloom but Applejack. I didn’t even consider the possibility of her being a fillyfooler. I really, really hope it was just a nice gesture on Twilight’s part. -Big Macintosh Entry 15     I knew it. I absolutely knew it. I knew Zecora wasn’t evil but nopony listened. -Big Macintosh Entry 16     I don’t know how, but cute little bug-like things ate our barn right before Princess Celestia was supposed to visit. I may need some therapy from all the stress it caused. Fortunately, this gives me the chance to hang out with Twilight if she chooses to help fix the barn. -Big Macintosh Entry 17     I spent some more time with Twilight today. She was visiting Fluttershy’s for some report and I offered to walk her home in the snowstorm. Ever since winter, I haven’t been seeing much of Twilight. I can’t wait til’ winter wrap up. -Big Macintosh Entry 18     Winter wrap up was almost a disaster again. If it weren’t for Twilight we would have been at least a day late for spring. AJ said she caused an avalanche at the farm but I didn’t see it happen. And with all my sisters hollering I was surprised she didn’t cause one herself. -Big Macintosh Entry 19     Applebloom got some new friends. They seem a little loud but they all seem to have fun together. Also don’t ever let her work the stand in town ever again. -Big Macintosh Entry     Applejack lost the running of the leaves. I honestly can’t believe it. This is the first time she hasn’t placed in the top five ever. Even Twilight beat her. I do have add that Twilight walked most of the way. Making my sisters defeat even more unexpected. -Big Macintosh Entry 21     Applejack participated in a fashion show. She was wearing the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. I was literally rolling on the ground. I don’t care what she says, I am keeping that picture. I would hang it up but it has Twilight in it as well and I don't want to remember her like that. -Big Macintosh Entry 22     I swear I saw my sister and Twilight walking on clouds today. I definitely need therapy. -Big Macintosh Entry 23     I tried not acting strange after seeing AJ cloudwalking. Somehow she must have noticed me acting strange and confronted me. She thought I was doing something perverted but I explained what I saw. She then told me that Twilight had cast a cloud walking spell on her so they could see their friends performance. After she told her stories, I realised that I had missed a Sonic Rainboom. It's a shame too, Rainbow Dash's first was a spectacle. -Big Macintosh Entry 24     Twilight has been spending more time at the spa with Rarity and Fluttershy. I think I might be getting more concerned with the “she might be a fillyfooler” theory. -Big Macintosh Entry 25     My sis and her friends went Appleloosa. I was going to go but my sis insisted that i take care of Apple Bloom and her friends. Even more reason to support my fillyfooler theory but I’m still not sure. -Big Macintosh Entry 26     Woof Woof. Woof. Woof? Woof Woof Woof! -Big Macintosh Stargazer let out a laugh quickly followed by her eyes becoming watery again. Entry 27     I don’t know what happened yesterday. I just remember plowing the gardens and suddenly barking, something about licking twilight, and then I was half buried in the ground. And not the bottom half of my body either. Applejack, Twilight and their friends seemed to be missing at first but then Twilight’s assistant came along to tell me they are in Canterlot. Also, I had originally started the entry as “I had the weirdest dream” but then I saw the previous entry. -Big Macintosh Entry 28     I don’t know what to think of today. It started off just like every other day, applebucking. After a while AJ told me she was heading off to a picnic, so I had to work the stand today. On my way there, I noticed Apple Bloom fighting with her friends. I almost got to them when Twilight asked me to grab her doll from them. This seemed to be the object of their fighting and it was a simple motion to grab it from them. However this is when things turned weird. I took one look at the doll and suddenly I wasn't in control. I could see my actions but I couldn't resist the voice in my head saying "Hold It. Keep It. Let Nopony Else See It." Then I saw a blinding flash and I was myself again. Mostly. When I looked at the doll again, I just thought of Twilight and snatched it up. I know it's stealing but I can't bring myself to give it back because it reminds me so much of her. Maybe I’ll give it back to her at some point but until then I’ll just keep it in my bed. -Big Macintosh Entry 29     I met with Twilight today. Me and Applejack needed to harvest pumpkins for Nightmare night. With her help, we were done before lunch and had the rest of the afternoon to just slack off. Applejack decided to get a head start on tomorrow's work. Leaving me with Twi. We just talked but somehow the topic came to stargazing. She had a science sounding name for it (astro-something) but as it turns out, we both like it. She put it on her schedule for me to come over on nightmare night to use her big telescope. -Big Macintosh Entry 30     Nightmare night was a blast. At first I was having fun but then Nightmare Moon showed up. Of course, I was scared because she showed up in this creepy chariot, wearing a cape made of bats, trying to yell at us. After a short time of using the Royal Canterlot voice on us (that’s what Twilight called it but she was really just yelling at us) she left sounding somewhat sad. I thought this was weird and went to go talk to her but only managed to get her guards. These guards were scary in their own right, with their bat wings and fangs but they wouldn’t let me anywhere near the princess.  I can’t remember their names (something Shield and something Hide) but I had a rather long chat with them. They explained that she wasn’t Nightmare moon but the princess we saw on the summer sun celebration a year back. I was surprised at how much she had changed in only a year but we continued talking well into the night. In the end the thing that stopped us from talking was the princess. She wanted to go back to canterlot. -Big Macintosh Entry 31     I had to apologise to Twilight today. In talking to the lunar guards I forgot about stargazing with her. I hope I can reschedule. Not only because I like looking at stars but because I find myself missing being with her more and more. -Big Macintosh Entry 32     May need to take Granny Smith to the hospital. She keeps forgetting things and acting crazy. Just today she told the ponies to line up at the finish line to start the big race at the Sisterhooves Social. Maybe I'll just have Twilight look at her. She seems smart enough to tell what's wrong with her. -Big Macintosh Entry 33     Apple Bloom got cutie marks today. Marks with a S. In her endless quest for a cutie mark, my sis ate something that gave her a rare disease. This disease gives the infected multiple cutie marks. Forcing them to be good at whatever those cutie marks represent. However, it ended in the terrorisation of the whole town. Luckily Zecora was able to cure it. I also will have to rethink my "have Twilight diagnose granny" idea. Applejack took Apple Bloom to Twi and she found nothing. -Big Macintosh Entry 34     I had a dream about Twilight. I would write it down but I fear it would be too good of clop material to resist. -Big Macintosh Entry 35     I arranged to stargaze with Twilight tonight. I had some fun with her but she seemed distracted. With her curious mind, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was trying to find the identity of the new superhero that recently showed up. They call her the Mysterious Mare Do Well. Not Twilight, the superhero. I hope we can arrange to do it again while she is less distracted. -Big Macintosh Entry 36     Twilight’s dragon attacked the town today. I don’t know how I feel about this. -Big Macintosh Entry 37     I know I shouldn’t laugh but seeing Granny Smith in a bunny costume always makes my day. I know “magic does as magic does” but I couldn’t help but smile when she started hopping around. Thank Celestia that Twilight wasn't around, I don't think I could have come up with a good excuse. -Big Macintosh Entry 38     I shed a tear today. A manly tear. Applejack didn’t come home from her rodeo. I just hope she comes home. -Big Macintosh Entry 39     Twilight brought her home. I don’t think I can thank her enough. Maybe I should return her doll. -Big Macintosh Entry 40     I was going to return her doll but I couldn't do it. Whenever I hold it, It's like Twilight is by my side. I kind of wish I had given it to her though. Probably would have been the perfect time, a reward for helping save the farm. I thought we had lost it for sure twice. Once after seeing how fast the Flim Flam Brother's machine worked. And the other after we were announced the losers. I liked that Twilight and her friends helped us but it sucks that we lost anyway. I'll have to give it back to her eventually but I fear that day. -Big Macintosh Entry 41     I tried working up the nerve to ask her out tonight. We were stargazing as we always do friday night and it was time for me to leave. I tried asking her to dinner the next night but she must have misheard me. I left there with at least three cookbooks. I will have to try again another day. -Big Macintosh Entry 42     Another failed attempt to ask Twilight out. I was walking past the library and decided to drop in. Unfortunately Twilight was working on what she called an “infinite improbability drive” and I don’t think she even knew I was there. -Big Macintosh Entry 43     I had a nice day off today. Apple Bloom and her friends decided to give me and Cheerilee a love potion that ended in disaster. I would have spent the day with Twilight but I thought because Cheerilee was also given’ love potion, I would spend the day with her. We both had no memory of the incident so we spend the day asking around to find out what happened while the love potion had effect. On a related subject, I think that something weird happened while I was under the effects of the love potion. Almost everypony kept giving me weird answers like: “I saw you moving a house” and “I sold you a diamond ring and you owe me five thousand bits”. Yeah right. -Big Macintosh Entry 44     She found out about the doll I was keeping from her.My little sister turned out to be printing everypony’s secrets in the paper and she wrote an artcle on how I played with dolls. I don’t think my sister knew it was Twilight’s but Twilight sure did. She can marching over and took the doll by force. I knew I should have gave her the doll before. I don’t know what to do, other then apologize and forget any chances I had with her. -Big Macintosh Entry 45     I had an idea to get on Twilight’s good side. If I help her friends then I can not only get close to her but change her perspective on me. Pinkie already has me helping her move a cake tomorrow. -Big Macintosh Entry 46     I think I might have broken my back while carrying that cake. With the weight of that cake I am guessing that it was made of lead. If these are the jobs I will be doing I might have to rethink of a way to get on Twilights good side. -Big Macintosh Entry 47     Something happened and nopony told me about it. I woke up today thinking about Twilight but Applejack, Apple Bloom and Granny Smith weren’t home. I looked for them everywhere in ponyville. Even stranger, I couldn’t find Twilight or any other of Applejack’s friends. Also for some reason I feel like something important was supposed to happen today but I can’t place what. -Big Macintosh Entry 48     I feel like an idiot. I missed the train to Canterlot Yesterday. I was going to help out Twilight at her brother’s wedding but I missed the train. I can’t believe that Applejack forgot me. I think I can officially forget about any chance I had with Twilight. -Big Macintosh Entry 49     You really should hide your diary better. Under your pillow ain’t a good place at all. After reading all that, there is a few things you should know. One, Twilight ain’t no fillyfooler. You mentioned it way back and I thought I’d put an end to that way of thinking. Two, Twilight recently asked if you had a marefriend, so I think you have a better chance than anypony. And three, you and I need to talk about why you didn’t ask me about Twilight. I am your sister after all. -Applejack Entry 50     Re-hiding this notebook. After reading AJ’s entry, me and her had a rather long talk about Twilight. She told me how I should have asked her in the first place and blah blah blah. Apparently Twilight has been asking about me for a while now and has been trying to work up the nerve to ask me out. It’s too late tonight so I’ll have to speak to Twi tomorrow. However, I will have to have a talk to AJ about respecting private property. -Big Macintosh Entry 51     As Rainbow Dash would say: “BEST DATE EVER!” She said yes of course. I will have to thank Applejack for giving me the courage to ask her out. As I wrote earlier, the date went perfectly. We went out for dinner. I don’t remember what we actually ate because it went past so fast. After dinner. we went back to her place for some stargazing. After a few minutes of stargazing we were already paying more attention to each other than the stars. Before long she was lying beside me and it was well past the point I usually leave. The worst part of the date was when I have to leave. I don’t think she wanted me to leave either but I thought it would look bad if AJ caught me walking into the farm early morning. Overall, I don’t think I could have asked for a better date. -Big Macintosh Entry 53     I had to cancel my date with Twilight tonight. I asked Applejack to do the budget ONCE and she screws it up. She may run the farm but she would be lost without my math skills. -Big Macintosh Entry 54     Another great date with twilight. This time we went to Pinkie’s “Mac and Twilight are in a relationship” party. It was fun but neither me or Twilight are real party animals so we ended up leaving early to spend more time just the two of us. It was fun just the with only us but eventually Pinkie found us and dragged us back to the party. -Big Macintosh Stargazer started to skip ahead. With a tear in her eye and and a small smile on her face she began to read again. Entry 314     I can’t believe she said yes. We have been together for years now but I still can’t believe it. I am getting married to the most beautiful mare in all of Equestria. Twilight Sparkle is going to be my wife. I can’t stop saying that in my head. -Big Macintosh Entry 315     I didn’t think planning for the wedding would be so much work. One day of planning and I am already tired out. I want to have a small wedding. Just family and friends but she wants to have some kind of massive canterlot wedding. If I didn’t know better I would swear that twilight has been planning this sense she was just a filly. I don’t know what else to do but agree with everything she says. With the detail Twi has put into this, we could probably have the wedding next week. -Big Macintosh Stargazer flipped ahead. She wanted to read it all but she didn’t care about every wedding preparation in the book. Entry 365     I wish I could write that the wedding went off without a hitch but that would be the opposite of the truth. I was waiting at the chapel the music started to play but before Twilight could enter Applejack, my best mare, fainted. The paramedics were there within minutes. They said she passed out due to dehydration but they had to take her to the hospital just in case.     The wedding quickly resumed and Twilight entered. All went well for a little bit but Twilight tripped going up the stairs and ended up knocking over Princess Celestia. I didn’t know what to think but they both got up and the wedding continued.     Again the wedding went well for a while but just as I went to kiss my bride, my front hoof slipped and I ended up toppling down on Twilight and down a few stairs. Breaking my back leg on the way down. I heard Rainbow Dash yell “It’s a little early for that Mac” before everyone rushed in to help. I ended up getting finishing that kiss in the Hospital. I ended up spending my honeymoon in a cast. And now I am spending the rest of my life with Twilight. I don’t think the smile on my face could be any wider. -Big Macintosh Stargazer was trying to hold back her tears. She didn’t know how to feel. She wanted to laugh, having heard a verbal version of it before but she also wanted to ball her eyes out. She turned a few pages and continued reading. Entry 422     I am going to be a dad. We went to the hospital because Twilight was feeling sick and ended up getting some of the greatest news of my life. I wasn’t expecting to become a father but I already can’t wait to be one. -Big Macintosh Stargazer let out a tear. She didn’t want to read on but she felt compelled to. Entry 449     Twilight died today. It was supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life. She had some complications giving birth and eventually died. She died in my hooves. I just couldn’t believe it. I still don’t believe it. I just keep expecting her to walk threw the front door. I know she won’t but I really wish she would.     And now I have to help raise our daughter without her. How am I supposed to raise a unicorn. I guess I could enroll her in the school Twilight went to. When she gets old enough. I can’t even decide on a name and I am supposed to do this by myself. I just hope I can be a good father. -Big Macintosh Stargazer was completely in tears. She started hugging the book. She wished she wasn’t alone. She kept repeating the same words in her mind. “I miss you dad.”
