Chapter 1: prologue

“Open fire!” Screamed a man's voice into my HUD. The year is 2060, sometime around November. My name is Nox, strange I know but it's what was given to me when I was drafted into the militia. Right now I am in a battle for the last human sanctuary left in the US, which is Key West Florida, the Mile Bridge. I'm not sure anyone remembers how it all started but in the year 2043 a virus struck all over the world, no one was ready it, and it spread faster than anything I have ever heard of. First, it kills the host by turning most vital organs into mush. Next, it takes over the spine and brain free to control your lifeless husk. It's something I could have gone without seeing first hand.

I was firing my weapon into a hoard of the undead freaks. My captain was barking out orders to our artillery squads to focus on the center of the bridge. My vision was filled with scenes of flying limbs and chunks of gore. But being an emotionless, pessimistic, asshole has the effect to make me not really care about that. One of my squad mates was a few feet in front of me, firing a mounted Mark IV Genesis Turret. “Jackson, walker to your left!” I shouted into my mic, he quickly turned to face them. Now there are a few branches of the virus, some mutate your body into a disgusting abomination and it makes killing them a lot easier. A walker is a smaller weaker mutant, it appears to completely ignore pain and can be brought down by any gun.

“RRRRAAAAGGGGHHHHH!”

I looked over to see more of the brutes lumbering after us. “Attention all troops evacuate the bridge immediately!” I heard my captain shout, I knew what this meant, we were blowing the bridge. It was all the kept us and walkers apart, destroying it would trap us in the city but keep “them” out. I saw the troops quickly get into any vehicle that they could. In the mix of chaos and blood shed I saw Jackson holding back a group of Walkers.

Walkers: The basic form of most undead, slow moving but fast hands, no real protection.

I sprinted across the bridge putting down anything that got in my way. I got to his side within seconds. “Jack come on we have to go!” I said to him he only nodded shooting a couple more walkers. We each heard the countdown over our HUD's speakers. “10, 9, 8” We both knew we couldn't make it to any of the vehicles so we did the next best thing. “Jump!” we both screamed and just as the countdown hit zero we were over the edge.

*Boom*

I could see masses of shrapnel and concrete. I felt the heat of the fire on my back and the sting of the wind on my face. Then nothing, I hit the water the air knocked from my lungs I gasped only to inhale sea water. I couldn't move only slowly watch the surface of the water above me only a few feet above. I didn't care this horrible life was over.

--off the coast of Grypas 11:25PM--

the captain of the Windlass was a bulky, gray griffin his name was Windbreaker. He watched what little of his crew worked at this hour, Luna's moon high above the horizon. Two other griffins were dragging a net through the water hoping to catch any schools of fish that may pass. All was calm and well, until. “Captain!” Breaker looked down to see the two griffins had pulled in a large pod of fish. “Ah, good job gentlemen.” He said, using his wings he glided down to them. “No cap' it ain't the fish look.” The other griffin said pointing to the net. Upon closer inspection the captain saw what had riled his men.

There was a creature in the net and it was not a fish. It was unconscious but not dead for it still breathed. It was tall and had a tan skin color, green clothes covered most of it's body, it was holding to large tools. “Men, take this thing below decks and lock it into a room. I am going to send a letter to the king immediately, do not under any circumstances awaken this thing!” the captain flew up to his quarters and slammed the door. The other two griffins quickly locked the creature away. Locking it inside a vacant room.

“Eh, Bloodwing what do you think that thing is?” Ask the first griffin, Bloodwing was a brown and gray griffin average size. “Ah ain't sure Stratos, maybe if it's an alien?” Bloodwing said, the two peeked inside the room the creature was hanging in the rooms sleeping hammock. Closing the door the two looked at each other. “Well come on we might as well get some sleep.” Said Stratos, the two walked back to their cabins hoping they would get some answers in the morning.

Inside the Captains cabin Windbreaker was hastily writing a letter to the King of Grypas he had only a days time before he reached the mainland, from there unless the king was informed transporting the creature would be difficult to say the least. The captain picked up the letter reading it back to himself.

You Majesty King Magnar

I am Windbreaker Captain of the ship Windlass. I send you this letter to inform you my men have made an interesting find. They hauled a strange creature from the waters, it is not any kind of fish but a mammal ape if I am not mistaken. But this creature does not look, dress, or smell like any of the ape tribes in the badlands. I hope you personally read this for it is your word that determines this creature's fate not mine.

Sincerely you old friend.

After sealing the letter he walked from his cabin and called a member of his crew. “yes sir, do you need anything?” the griffin asked, Windbreaker handed him the letter. “Take this to the royal palace as fast as you wings and the wind can carry you, let nothing stop you!” He ordered the griffin took the letter and quickly raced off into the once more peaceful night. “I need a drink.” The captain said exhaustion catching up to him.

Note from author: Hello everyone! This is my first story i have ever written i know my grammar and descriptions aren't exactly perfect but I hope you enjoy the story never the less. The beginning is going to be slow but i will make sure to put more into the story and hopefully make it more interesting. If i should add anything or anyone (pony) let me know and I will see what my options are. Blood Moon signing off.
