The little colt then saw Twilight and wave at her.  He let go of his mother's hoof and walked in the class room. “There’s no need to be scared,” the teacher said. The colt stared at the teacher, but did not speak.  “There’s a seat next to Twilight. How about you sit next to her?” The little colt nodded and walked to the desk and sat down. “Here.  Can you write your name for us?” the teacher asked. The colt put down six letters: Shadow. “Well, welcome, Shadow,” the teacher said with a smile. At recess, the colts and fillies picked on Shadow because of his name. “Leave him alone!” Twilight yelled at the others, and they all walked away. Shadow stared at the purple filly. “You okay, Shadow?” Twilight asked. Shadow nodded trying not to blush. Twilight turned her head, noticed he was blushing, and giggled. Soon Shadow's mom came and picked him up.  He looked so happy. “Bye Twilight,” Shadow said. Twilight blushed really hard when he spoke. The next day Shadow talked to Twilight and no one else.  She enjoyed his presence.  Shadow had used his magic to pick an apple from a tree and was biting into it when he heard Twilight scream. The blue colt bolted to where she was, finding her crying.  She had dropped her sandwich in a puddle.  Shadow then pulled out his sandwich and gave it to her. “Thanks, Shadow,” Twilight said.  She looked both ways and kissed him on the cheek. Shadow’s cheeks turned bright red.  Twilight giggled again--she had really found a friend that trusted her.  Shadow then wrapped his hooves around Twilight’s neck.  She blushed very hard. Shadow’s mom came and got him early one day because his father was in an accident. For seven days, Shadow didn’t go to school.  The following week, Shadow was walking to school with a frown on his face. “What's wrong Shadow?” Twilight asked. “My dad died," Shadow said sadly. “Aw, I’m sorry, Shadow,” Twilight said, brushing up against him. Shadow never smiled over the next few weeks.  One day Twilight had had enough of her friend being sad.  On their way home from school, Twilight grabbed Shadow and pulled him into an alley. “I can’t stand you being sad, Shadow, Twilight said. She wrapped her hooves around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss.
