North Star the Grand was the arch mage of Old Canterlout. All that is know about him before he became arch mage is very limited. Basic information about him is that he started off in a small village and by time he was eight he got his cutie mark of a transmutation circle by drawing one into the ground and made a statue made of the earth. When he was fifth-teen he was sent to Old Canterlout due to his vast amount of knowledge of magic. By the time he was eighteen he became arch mage the youngest one in record Equestrian history. During the Great Dragon War North Star the Grand headed out to dragon territory and spread havoc among them by showing them his power by using transmutations to use the ground as platforms or even as weapons against the dragons. He made the treaty between ponies and dragons when he defeated their leader in a duel. The term a dragon being in a duel of honor is unknown but the dragon leader fell to the hooves of North Star the Grand. During the decades of the Discord Era North Star proved to be a great match for him. Since North Star could also manipulate the ground and other objects as could Discord. During the Discord Era North Star had summoned a Ursa Major and proved useful against the followers of Discord. How the summoning was done there is no explanation. Just years before the beginning of the Nightmare Era North Star had died in battle. It was him who defeated the leader of tartarus Hades. In that time North Star and his student Dawn Breaker the Flamer went to the gates of Tartarus and fought bravely and reached the throne of the castle of the undead. Hades then teleported them to Canterlout so he could show just how powerful he was to the world. In that time North Star had set up a transmutation circle around all of Equestria and sent the fires of Celestia's own sun upon him. Dawn Breaker used the mighty flames of the old sun god Amaterasu. These flames are recorded to burn forever until the user of the flames takes care of them so as Hades burned by two sun gods he became nothing but dust. But Hades had a trick up his sleeve as he unleashed Hellfire upon both of them North Star and Dawn Breaker broke free but not before Hades sent his shadows and stabbed both of them threw the chest. That faithful night was dubbed The Night of Falling Stars due to their heroic acts.
