Dear Pinkie Pie,
I miss you so much. Here in Canterlot, I get a lot more studying done and that’s been great, but undoubtedly, something is missing. Every time I glance out of my window, I expect to see the fields full of apple trees where Applejack works, Rainbow Dash sleeping on a cloud somewhere, Fluttershy leading ducklings down the street and Rarity talking to some important pony. I even expect to see the Crusaders trying some wild new routine to get their cutie marks. And you, Pinkie. I expect to see you, bouncing down the street with a party hat and a silly song, come to invite me to another crazy get-together. But I never do.
When I look out of my window, I see rich, important unicorns marching across the clean streets, noses in the air, conversing with ridiculously posh accents about their outfits. Yesterday, somepony mentioned Rarity’s dresses with high praise. I felt more homesick than ever. I had to write to you. Everything’s so unbearably formal, it’s hard to tell if somepony actually likes me. So, go on. Be silly and funny, that shouldn’t be hard for you. How are things back in Ponyille? Tell the others I miss them.

Ohmigosh, you finally wrote! I’ve been waiting forever ever ever! Well, not forever, but a really long time! It’s super duper exciting to hear from you, but it’s soo unbelievably sad that you’re lonely and you miss us! We all miss you loads too. Rarity’s being a drama queen, keeps throwing herself round and wailing about her heart. Fluttershy’s being so sweet to her and it seems to cheer Rarity up a lot whenever she stops by at the boutique. Oh oh! AJ and I had a baking competition just for fun, and the Mayor judged. Guess what, Twilight! Well, you can’t really guess, because this is a letter, so I’ll leave a space here for you to write guesses!
Is that enough? I WON, Twi! The prize was a ticket to this amazing food festival and I went. Would you believe it, the ponies there actually told me I’d had ENOUGH chocolate! Surely ponies who work at a food festival know there’s no such thing? Honestly. Rainbow is her usual self. She’s pretending she doesn’t care that you’ve gone, but she can’t get past me! Oh nooo, she’s super duper sad and missing you loads! AJ’s been doing even more work lately, to distract herself from remembering that you’re not in Ponyville anymore. I miss you so much, Twi. I know you absolutely had to take that job as the Princess’s assistant after she got so ill, but I wish you were still here.

You have no idea how good it is to hear from you. I tried to write to the others, but I couldn’t find the right words. Writing to you seems to come naturally. The princess is so ill now. She can’t raise the sun anymore. Luna is trying her hardest, but I can see how difficult it is for her. I sort of know what Celestia feels like. She’s had all her magic taken away from her. When I left Ponyville, I left a part of me behind. I’m in Canterlot in my body and mind. Not my heart. Well done for winning the competition though! Okay, this might seem like an odd request, but do you think you could send me a cake with your next letter. I want one so badly. But not one I can just go down the road for. One of your cakes. I never thought I’d miss them this much.

Okie dokie lokie! One cake enclosed! I made a whole batch of them and they’re sooo yummy! I gave some to the others as well, but I think Fluttershy gave hers to that creepy bunny. Oh well. I held three parties this week and they were all mega fun, but you weren’t thre Twi! Well, you know you weren’t there, but it wasn’t as fun without you. This is a short letter cuz I said I’d teach the CMC how to bake cakes shaped like houses. Somehow, I doubt they’re going to get cutie marks for that.

Thank you so much. That cake was delicious. Spike thought so too! It’s good to hear you’re throwing parties again. I saw Rarity the other day, you didn’t tell me she was coming to Canterlot! It was great to see her again, but so formal. I like Rarity a lot of course, but I sort of wish it had been you. Most ponies in Canterlots idea of a party is standing round talking about how ‘delightful’ something is. I’ve been to a few of those. They don’t even dance.
The princess is worse. She’s so pale. Luna’s having trouble raising the sun. She struggles a lot and can’t raise the sun very high at all. Winter will be especially long and cold this year. I have many lovely friends here, but none of them quite match up to you girls. I wish I could come back to Ponyville to visit, but I can’t leave the princess alone. Give the others my love.

Okay, this is urgent. We need a spell, pronto. A tree fell at Sweet Apple Acres and AJ is unconscious in hospital. It hit her really hard in the head. The doctors don’t know if she’ll ever wake up. It’s scaring me. Big Mac and Applebloom are really upset. They spend all their time at the hospital. Dashie never seems to leave either. She was completely hysterical when we heard the news. The others aren’t talking much. My parties aren’t cheering them up at all. Please say you know some sort of spell that will save her.

Okay, there isn’t a spell, but there is something you can do. Remember the Heart’s Desire flowers? You need to use one of those. I’d suggest getting Rainbow Dash to use it, she seems to be the one suffering the most from AJ’s current condition. There’s only one catch. There are none left in Ponyville. I’ve sent you a seed which Rainbow has to plant and look after (which she might need some help with). It should take about three months. When it’s in full bloom, she must mix the potion. Good luck.
One more thing. Pinkie, how are you doing? You’ve talked about our friends a lot, but not yourself. That’s not like you.

Thank you, thank you! Sooooooo sorry I haven’t written for a few months but things have been busy. Bad news first. Angel died. Fluttershy was very upset about the whole situation, though I can’t see why. That bunny was horrible. Now onto the superbly fantastic news! AJ’s up and doing well. Rainbow actually managed to keep that plant alive for three months. She barely leaves AJ alone now. AJ doesn’t seem to mind. Rarity’s business is going really well and she’s planning a ton of new lines.
Everything’s going well at last. I can finally relax. Write back soon!

Oh, that’s so brilliant! I’ve missed seeing your letters coming through the door. All I’ve been doing for the last few days is sitting by the palace doors waiting for your letter to arrive. Your letters are what I’ve been counting on, the light in the dark. The Princess is dying, you see. Celestia is now too weak to stand up and needs help with the smallest of activities. Every day, ponies appear outside the castle, holding up lanterns. They light the whole of Canterlot, and it’s beautiful. If only they were there under happier circumstances.

Oh! You want to know about me? Weeeell, I guess I’m gonna have to be blunt. Sugarcube Corner is losing business. A new cake shop opened up on the other side of town and its way more popular. That’s putting the Cake’s under a lot of stress, especially as the twins are ill at the moment, though it’s nothing serious. So I’m having to run the shop by myself. It was fun at first, but now it’s too hard to keep up with baking and customers, and looking after Gummy. I might have to give him away.
But it’s okay, Twi, don’t worry about me. Everything will be completely okay in time. Time heals all, remember? But poor poor you! Looking after the Princess like that when she’s so ill must be really hard! Are you sure you’re okay? I cried a bit when I read your letter, feeling guilty because I hadn’t written in soo long. I felt like I’d abandoned you, Twi!

Oh my. Until now, I’d always seen you as the silly, perky comic relief of our group. I guess you still are. But in your last letter, you showed another side of yourself, Pinkie. A kind, sweet pony putting aside her own troubles for a friend. Somepony willing to assure that everypony around her is happy. What you told me, about things back in Ponyville, many ponies wouldn’t be able to cope. They’d have had a breakdown by now. But not you, Pinkie. You’re still going strong. That’s such sad news. They’re keeping quiet about it clearly, as no one in Ponyville is any wiser to the events in Canterlot. I suppose the news will hit hard when it comes. Things down here are going well. AJ and Dashie got together! They’re a really sweet couple and I never knew either of them had a romantic side. The adorableness! Neither of them are as adorable as you though.
Fluttershy and Rarity seem to be getting really close too, though they’re not making it public. I don’t see much of them nowadays. Oh well. I have you.
