"Hey Soarin'! You got mail," Spitfire screamed down the hall.
"Alright I'm coming, I'm coming." Soarin' groaned as he made his way down to the kitchen. The kitchen was huge; of course it had to be when you had a whole team of hungry Wonderbolts to feed. Soarin' sat down at the table next to Spitfire. She had a huge smirk on her face. "What?" he asked.
"Oh it's just from your Marefriend." She threw the letter in front of Soarin'. He quickly opened the letter and started to read.
Dear Soarin',
I kept on waiting on a reason and that call that never came. No I never saw it coming, something in you must have changed. I remember the first night at the Grand Galloping Galla, you were the only customer I had. Before I left you asked me where you could get another one and I told you my address was Sweet Apple Acres in Ponyville. I would've never told the girls at the time, but I thought it was sweet that you wanted to would come to Ponyville just to have an apple pie.
When you did come to the farm I made sure to put time aside to make you that pie. You over paid for it but when I told you, you smiled that smile that would make all the mares swoon and said it was worth every bit. We started chatting about the farm and how it got started with my Great Grandpa. You talked about the Wonderbolts and how you wished sometimes you would just lead a normal life. You made me laugh at your jokes and I smiled more that day than I did in a long time. I didn't notice the time till it started to get cold and you wrapped your wing around me. We watched the sunset it was beautiful that night. You told me that you would be back again soon. We parted, but not until we shared our first kiss. You tasted like apples and cinnamon.
You did come back. And time and time again we would share stories, laugh, and just have fun. I thought there was words unspoken that actually meant something. But over time there were promises broken. I know you can't get away from you job all the time to see me but I thought that at least you would show up for our first official date. I cried for so long. I'm surprised that Big Macintosh only gave you a black eye when you showed up the next time you came around. But you came back so I decided that whatever silly excuse you came up with was good enough. I guess I wasted too much time, should have seen the signs. Starting from then on you were either canceling our date or running late.
Now I know just what went wrong, I guess I wanted you more. As I'm writing this now I'm sure. I wanted you more.
All the nights we spent just talkin' of the things we wanted out of life. Making plans and dreams together. I wish I'd seen I was just to blind. I remember we were star gazing and you told me about a big fight you had with Spitfire. She told you that you were to distracted and needed to clear your mind. You almost quit right then and there. And I told you to follow your heart. You said that your heart wasn't at the Wonderbolts Headquarters it was right here on Sweet Apple Acres with me. I thought you were being honest with me, but I guess I was wrong. You said you saw the world and just wanted to settle down, maybe raise a family. It sounded perfect.
At that moment my heart was open. Exposed and hoping for you to lay it on the line. But then you just laughed and said you would just talk to Spitfire and clear things up. So in the end it seemed there was no room for me. Still I tried to change your mind. I said that maybe one day I would have kids. How they would work on the farm and grow. Maybe they would be great fliers one day or wise unicorns. You flinched at that but it still didn't change your mind. I guess your heart was in the clouds and not on the ground like you said.
I guess I wanted you more. And looking back now I'm sure. I wanted you more. I don't need you, I don't need you anymore.
I guess what I was trying to say is that we are over. I know you have your heart up in the clouds and mine is at home at Sweet Apple Acres. We just weren't meant for each other. And I have to be honest with you and myself. Because if I'm not then I would let this drag on till something worse happened. I'm just a simple country pony and you are a big superstar. But one thing will never change; you and only you will be my first love. For now I am heart broken and I want you to come back to me. Tell me that you love me and we can work this out. But I know that won't happen so don't do it. It will only waste your time and mine.
From,
Applejack.
By the end of the letter, tears were falling down his face and landing on the letter. Matching the ones already stained on there from Applejack. "Spitfire? I can't go to the show today."
"Geeze Soarin', what did she write?" Soarin' passed her the letter and she read silently. "Oh, sorry Soar" She whispered with an apologetic look on her face. She went up to him and gave her teammate a hug. "I know you really thought she was the one didn't you?" He nodded. "Well what are you still doing here?" Spitfire thwacked him upside the head.
"What she just ended it! What am I supposed to do?" He sobbed.
"Do you want to know as your friend or as your captain?" Spitfire asked.
"Both, I guess," He sighed.
"Well as your captain I would say, forget about her. You are better than some farm life anyway. You are a Wonderbolt you can get any girl you want." Soarin' looked horrified "Now as your friend I would say. You need to leave. I know your heart is down on that farm and that mare has it. What are you still doing here? Get off your sorry butt and go!" She pointed towards the door.
"You know what, your right!" He smiled. "I am a Wonderbolt and I can get any mare I want" Spitfires jaw dropped not expecting that answer. "But as of right now I am not a Wonderbolt. I quit. And now there is only one mare that would want me. As long as I'm not to late." With that he zoomed off to Ponyville as fast as his wings would take him.
"That a boy. I'm gonna miss you Soarin'" Spitfire said.
He approached the door of the farmhouse and knocked frantically. Granny Smith opened the door. "Well sonny, your pretty brave to show your sorry face 'round 'ere again," She said.
Soarin' took a deep breath and stepped inside, "I wanted to say I'm sorry. I did not know how much she was hurting. I love her with all my heart and I want to make things right and let her know I would do anything for her,"
"You would do anything?" A small voice came from the corner. It was Applejacks little sister, Applebloom.
"Yes, I would," He said confidently.
"Would you leave the Wonderbolts?" She asked.
"No." Appleboom gasped, not expecting that. She opened her mouth to talk but was cut off by Soarin' saying, "I can't leave something I don't belong to anymore,"
"YOU QUIT THE WONDERBOLTS!?!" The noise came from the kitchen. He knew that voice from anywhere.
He slowly went into the kitchen bracing himself for what he might see. Applejack looked like she hadn't slept in days, her mane unbrushed, and yet she still looked beautiful in his eyes. "Yes, I did it for you, no I did it for us. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. I love you. And I can't believe it took a letter to realize how important you are to me. And I don't want you out of" He was cut off by a kiss. He closed his eyes and let himself get lost in the moment.
When the kiss was finally broken Applejack said "I love you too."
