The Origin of Derpy: Part 1 Chapter 5

The sun returned, along with Sandy. The day began like any normal day would; we ate breakfast, freshened up and I even got to take my first shower. None of us spoke of last night though, none of us wanted to. Without ever being mentioned once, it became a new unspoken rule that none of us would speak of what Cobblemane or Ms. Lily for that matter, ever do to us. As time progressed from hours, to days, to weeks and even months things remained the same... Everyday we would be left alone, Daze would go out into the Acre then the Everfree forest and gather food for all of us. She would return home we would eat and then Cobblemane would show up. Every night he assaulted Daze and Sandy always forcing me to watch, then he would take Sandy away from us until morning. As bad as it sounds, we had gotten us to the constant visits from him, and even though none of us wanted him to show up; we would endure it.

Around the seventh month Sandy began to change, at some points both me and Daze would notice that she was practically glowing. Her gut began to expand as well, when we would ask her about it she would brush it off with a simple "Oh I've just been eating too much food is all." with a chuckle every time. Daze wouldn't believe her but never questioned it. She was pregnate... That much was evident... Things remained uneventful until one day Daze busted into the room, hyperventilating and a smile plastered on her face.

"We're getting adopted!"

Earlier that day on the outskirts of Manehatten.

"Excuse me, have you seen this filly?" The colt shook his head. "Excuse me, have you seen this filly?" The mare shook her head. I fell down to my haunches and hung my head down low.

"Excuse me Ms. have you lost your child?"

"Not exactly, but I am trying to find a missing child." I replied lifting my head up revealing a Colt of orange coat and dirty green hair.

"Well if your looking for a filly I wouldn't suggest looking here. The lawmakers of Manehatten passed a bill about 10 years ago. We here had an abundance of homeless filly's, why I havn't the slightest... They just kind of showed up over night. Anyway's the bill enlisted the help of a nearby orphanage to rescue them off the street, give them a home, and possibly some hope. If you think she may have ended up there I can tell you where it is Ms...?"

"REALLY?! That'd be great!" I said as I sprung up, new hope filled me that I may find her. "Oh and you can call me Ms. Redheart, it's nice to meet you Mr..."

"You can just call me Maverick." He then proceeded telling me the whereabouts of said orphanage. "Then you just follow that stream until you reach a dirt path, that'll lead you out into a clearing, from there you should be able to find where the orphanage is."

"Thank you so so so so so so so so so much!!!!" I said shaking his hoof. After I said goodbye I was on my way towards the Everfree forest.

"What do you mean we're getting adopted?!" Both me and Sandy shouted.

"No one in Zone 2 ever gets adopted!" Sandy yelped.

"That's just it, this instance is completely different!"

I followed Maverick's directions and eventually reached the river he talked about that leaded into the forest. After about 20 minutes of following it, I stumbled upon a clearing covered by willows every which way you would look. I saw a Mare with a gray wool cloak over her head picking berries off from a nearby bush.

"Excuse me" I called out.

She glanced at me, turned around and began to bolt off.

"Wait! I just wanna know if you've seen this filly!" I screamed. She stopped in her tracks. She looked back at me revealing her Cyan eyes. "I... Jus..... wante.... to know.... have you... seen this filly..." I said, with a lack of breath from me sprinting towards her to catch up. I held the picture of Derpy up from when she was still in her incubator. Her eye's grew wide, her basket fell down to the floor; she jumped towards me wrapping me in a hug.

"YOU MET MS. REDHEART!?" I screamed aloud.

"Mmhmm, from what she tells me she's been looking for you the night you went missing."

"I... uhh, take that as a yes?" I asked, surprised at the mare's actions.

"Yes yes! I know her. She's been living with me!" She cried, sending my heart a flutter.

"SHE HAS!? WHERE IS SHE!?" Her over the top enthusiasm deflated with that sentence.

"Your going to wanna sit down..." Worry befell me as she began to talk.

A few hours later, the two mare's had shared both of their stories

Daze's graphic detailing of the horror's within the orphanage almost made me up chuck.

"Why are we still even here?! Let's get her out of there!" I said as I lifted myself up, Daze just continued to sit.

"I'm sorry, I didn't see any other options at the time.. I just wanted to make sure she lived." I wrapped my hooves around her neck.

"It's okay, you did what you thought was right, I don't blame you... In fact I thank you for saving her life." She began to sob into my shoulder. "That's it let it all out, you don't have to be strong anymore."

"She's down in the adoption office filling out the paperwork right now!"

"How?! we're in zone 2, we can't be adopted." Said Sandy.

"That's just it! She's filling out the paperwork for me now, because I was in Zone 1 at the time. Ms. Lily or Cobblemane can't deny her because she know's I exist! That's why we're going to bring you both to Zone 1 so she can see you two as well!"

"Pretty clever Daze, pretty clever indeed. ." Cobblemane sounded off, walking into the room and taking his place next to Sandy."I'm afraid that's not going to happen... Not for Sandy atleast." He paused for a moment. "Nooo I think I'll just hang onto your friend for a little while longer... You can take that dumb bitch though, she's worthless anyways." He said as he pointed to me.  Silence befell the room as our one glimmer of hope diminished with a single instant.

"No..." Sandy said.

"What was that?"

"I said no! I'M NOT GOING TO BE DENIED A BETTER LIFE BECAUSE OF YOU!" Sandy screamed as she smacked Cobblemane across his cheek. He slowly turned his head around, his eye's set a blaze with fury as he looked upon Sandy.

"Alright Sandy..."He said in a calm voice. "Well, if your going to be like that. THEN I THINK IT'S TIME I MADE AN EXAMPLE OUT OF YOU!" Cobblemane yelled as he grabbed Sandy by her hoof and dragged her out of the room. Both me and Daze tried stopping him by jumping onto Sandy to slow or halt his leave, but he just kicked us off of him. We both got up from the hit, only to see Cobblemane leave.

"Derpy, you stay here! I'm going to get Ms. Redheart!" Daze said as she got back up. I nodded in response. Daze took off out of the room and sprinted down the stairs.

I was left alone again...

I knew that being made an example of was... He was going to hang Sandy... I had to hurry to Ms. Redheart. I made it down the stairs, through the hallway, and out into Zone 1. I turned my direction to Ms. Lily's office where Ms. Redheart was filling out my paperwork. I slammed open the door, revealing only Redheart sitting there with a shocked expression on her face; my sudden burst alarming her.

"Where's Ms. Lily!?"

"She's in the back, why?"

"Sandy's about to be hung." Ms. Redheart's eye's grew huge.

"What are you talking about?!"

"Cobblemane ws going to stop you from adopting her, she talked back and hit him... Now he's going to kill her!" I cried.

"We have to go stop them!" Redheart said as she jumped out of the seat. I stopped her. "What are you doing!?"

"You wont make it past the hallway, get the police, try convincing them that this place exists and that this is happening" I only said convince because Ms. Lily is reigned as a saint, the one that has saves hundred's of little filly's lives... Who would believe her that she wasn't who she really seemed, and was really a monster. Redheart nodded in response.

"What are you going to do?"

"I'm going to stop him for as long as I can."

"And Derpy?!"

"She's safe, I told her to stay put in the room"

"I'll be as quick as possible." And with that she was gone out the door, out of the compound and back into the forest. I did the same and ran out of the room. I made my way back through the hallway and went right back into another hallway, this one marked 'Mares/Colts'. I was blinded by the glare of the afternoon sun as I exited the hallway, the sun causing me to raise a hoof above my eye's. After my eye's had adjusted to the light, I saw the sight I didn't want to see, all the other ponies forced to work within the mine's had already gathered... Cobblemane wouldn't do this without a crowd. I shoved my way through everyone getting jeers and hits from everyone as I made my way towards the circular opening in the middle of all of this. There stood the gallows, next to it Cobblemane; he stood over Sandy's body which laid in a pool of her own blood.

"Oh Celestia no..." I whispered to myself in disbelief. Sandy moved slightly on the ground. "Thank Luna... I'm not too late."

I ran faster than I had ever ran in my life. Constantly almost tripping over objects in the forest. From the dirt road to the willow opening and back onto the path of the river... In a fraction of the time that it took me to get to the orphanage I was already out of the forest, back on the outskirts of Manehatten.

"Just hang on girl's... Help's on the way."
