Rainbow

   Rainbow flew high above Ponyville that stunning midsummer morning strangely enough though she was up and early to clear out the clouds she would never leave Ponyville hanging. She looked down upon the quiet town she began to hover for a moment as she over looked the beauty the city had to offer. The sun made the morning dew sparkle like diamonds and the  sun cast a gentle golden glow over the town she sighed the beauty was almost intoxicating. As She began to fly upward again she heard a loud squeal fill the air to young to be any of the young fillies she knew. She drifted forward a little questioning who in their right mind would be up this early in the morning she looked over the top of a small cottage. She scanned down the road she focused in on the Cakes bakery and she noticed her closest friend pinkie pie playing with the newborn twins. Pumpkin snuggled under pinkies stomach as her brother tried to chase her under frustrated he put his muzzle to the ground and stared at where she had vanished to she poked her young muzzle out and licked his nose and pulled back under  he squealed loudly at his sisters mockery. Rainbow Dash could feel her eyes beginning to sting she felt the wet, warmth of tears running down her cheeks she slowly reached up and wiped away her tears the wind softly rustling the trees below her and chilling her cheeks. She let out a painful sigh letting every feeling she had ever bottled up pour out  of her her tears thickened. She dashed away at a speed well fitting for her name but she paid no heed to the speed she was traveling or where she was going her tears numbing and blinding her.

  She came to a stop she had work to do her silly emotions couldn't get in the way of doing her job as she has said many times she will never leave Ponyville hanging it was her home. She began to take care of the clouds that hung lazily in the sky with swift kicks of her hind legs but it didn't distract her even when she finished at an amazing speed. Rainbow came to a sudden halt realizing she had cleared the sky her thoughts traveled to the painful part of her brain she shook her head hard clearing the thoughts way. She knew she needed to work on a new trick for the Wonderbolts she was sure it would impress the Wonderbolts Captain Spitfire. Rainbow began to fly upward the wind rushing over her blue coat her wings ached from not having been used in a while but still she continued until flew she was a blot on the sun. She stopped and began to fall spinning as she went attempting to perform the sonic Rainboom while spinning.

  Before she could reach the right speed or even react a young stalion flew into her path Rainbow collided with him head on she wrapped her wings around him but she couldn't speed they were descending. Rainbow attempted to slow down she got a rather uncomfortable grip on him but enough to spread her wings speed pain lashed through her spin only but she kept them stretched out. They came to a stop she thought out loud dang you weigh a lot buddy need to lay off the oats if you weighed anymore we would need a forklift to carry you. She flew the stallion to Twilight's his weight causing her issues the whole flight she almost dropped him twice she was tempted to drop him the second time. Rainbow attempted with the help of a cloud got him onto her back she walked slowly to Twilight's library and opened the door loudly her heart pounding from the extra weight she was carrying.

"TWILIGHT!!!!!! TWILIGHT WHERE ARE YOU? SPIKE HELLO?!" Rainbow yelled laying the stallion onto the floor gently stretching her wings.

"Rainbow what could possibly be so important that it requires you to yell when spikes taking a nap! You know how important it is for a baby dragon to sleep I don't want to pay Rarity another visit for a mane fixing." Twilight yelled she stopped cold in her tracks her eyes widening.

Rainbow slowly walked over to the stallion and she nuzzled his cheek she began to sob rather loudly. " I was flying and I crashed into him Twilight I didn't mean to hurt him. Do you think you could work your magic to make sure I didn't cause brain damage?" Rainbow sobbed.

Twilight slowly walked over to the saddening scene she'd never seen Rainbow act this way she wasn't a crier she was a fighter she hide her emotions well. Why was she crying over accidentally crashing into a stallion that she doesn't even know?

"Yes, I can help him but please lower your voice I don't want to deal with a grouchy baby dragon." Twilight answered in a low voice.

"Thank you Twilight." Rainbow lowered her head in thanks.

Twilight lowered her horn her eyes shut in concentration her eyes opened and a faint purple glow pulsed from her horn she gently pressed her horn to his chest the glow slowly spreading and seeping over him like water. The glow began to fade after a moment or two he moaned but his eyes didn't open Twilight sat down and nodded slowly pleased with her self. Rainbow smiled the guilt fading away she looked up to Twilight her eyes flashing with thanks.

"Rainbow, are you alright? Why does it look like you've been crying for hours?" Twilight asked softly her eyes showing great worry.

Rainbow looked at the ground her thoughts wondered and she spoke without thought " Twilight what does it feel like to have a family? I mean to truly known your birth parents?"

Twilight looked at her speed addicted friend she had never heard a question like that before confusion crossed her face. Her thoughts began to speak in her mind she wondered so many things then and there. The question came to her in a simple form: What was a family like? Did Rainbow not know what it felt like? If so how didn't she know she was sure Rainbow had lived with a family when she was younger well she assumed.

"Rainbow, I don't understand what you mean didn't you grow up with your family when you were a filly?" Twilight asked knowing the question was a personal one.

Rainbow stood and walked to the window and looked up to clouds dale she couldn't see the flight academy where she grew up. She wondered what the head master was doing or his daughter Vanilla Swirl was doing she didn't understand why she thought of them at that moment. She sighed slowly turning around and making eye contact with her dearest friend wanting to run over, hug her, and cry into her shoulder then answer that very question.

"Twilight, I grew up at the flight academy I was dropped off there when I was just a baby. I never knew my parents or if I had siblings the only thing my parents left me with was a blue baby blanket and a note saying my name and how old I was." Rainbow lowered her head as she answered Twilight.

Twilight looked at her friend with wide eyes not knowing what to say the stallion stirred in his sleep but all he did was roll over one of his wings looked broken. Twilight looked at Rainbow she now knew why Rainbow was so loyal and had issues with her feelings.

  "Rainbow, I'm so..." Twilight began but before she could answer Spike slammed the door to their room wide open He was spitting fire in anger he's always cranky when he first wakes up from a nap.

"Rainbow Dash! Twilight! Why can't you two be quiet do you have no inside voices?" Spike asked he stood at the top of the stairs he walked down to the bottom step and stopped.

"Who's that? and why is he laying on our floor?" Spike asked curiously

"We don't know who he is I accidentally crashed into him while performing a new trick. " She answered coldly.

Rainbow walked over the stallion she grumbled he looked older then her not old enough to be a big brother though curiosity she reached out and slowly lifted his wing to reveal his cutie mark. It was a rainbow tornado she give him a close examination his coat pitch black, his mane was rainbow colored but to bright if you asked her. She sighed realizing Twilight's magic wasn't going to wake him up or heal him she knew she was going to have to take him to the hospital. Almost as though Twilight had read her mind lifted him up onto Rainbow's back she walked to the door and opened it. Rainbow walked forward her body groaning under the weight of him her body began to protest she breathed heavily.

"Man, Twilight this guy weighs a ton, Why do stallions have to weigh so much? I mean seriously how much do you think he eats?" Rainbow complained.

Twilight giggled at her friend and answered "I think it has something to do with their height but I personally think they eat to much. I know Shining does I mean he eats everything in sight its gross and funny at the same time like I use to hate eating carrots so I'd give them to shining I started calling him my garbage can."

Rainbow laughed feeling better with her friend walking beside her though Twilight only lived a few minutes away those few minutes were going to be pure torture. She sighed with relief as they came into view of the hospital her muscles cried with joy but as they got closer he seemed to get heavier. Twilight opened the door for Rainbow as she carried her baggage  through the door she collapsed to the floor the doctors rushed forward and got him off of Rainbow. Twilight suggested she go see Fluttershy and that she would handle the paper work for the accident. Rainbow laid on the floor for a few minutes grateful that the weight was removed from her poor back she stood up she took Twilight's advice to go see Fluttershy and talk her feelings out to her.

"Thank you for your help Twilight." Rainbow said as she walked to the door only stopping to listen to her answer.

"My pleasure gave me a chance to work that healing spell. I see it's going to take a lot of practice to get it to work." She answered smiling the whole time.

Rainbow walked out the door she lifted her wings and slowly flew to her closest friends cottage knowing Flutter would understand Rainbow chuckled knowing pinkie pie would be furious to know Fluttershy was a closer friend then her. Rainbow flew quickly to flutter's and landed softly before the door and knocked softly as to not scare the easily frightened Pegasus. Slowly but quickly the door opened and Shy's head poked out her face brightened with happiness when she saw it was Rainbow

"Oh Hello Rainbow Dash, would you like to come in?" Shy answered in a happier ton then usual.

"Yes please Shy, there's something I need to talk to you about and I feel truly awful about it." Rainbow answered

"Well come sit and I'll make us some tea and a few daisy and hay sandwiches. You look like you could use the food you look like you've been flying all day." Shy smiled shyly

Rainbow walked forward and laid on the floor of the cottage her mane spilling like a waterfall over the floor she sighed happily. She felt something run through her hair and she took a frightened breath she slowly looked over her shoulder Angel Shy's most beloved pet combed her rainbow mane she sighed in frustration. A rabbit scared me she thought with a giggle wow I really need to get my emotions under control.

  She flew to Shy's to get comfort she knew Shy would understand Twilight may of been smart but she wasn't as smart as Flutter could be with emotions. She laid there for several moments allowing the sweet little bunny to comb out her thick mane she soon wondered what was taking Shy so long she lifted a wing gently. After a few more minutes she stood leaned down and kissed the rabbit between the ears to show thanks and she marched off to the kitchen to see what Flutter was doing. As she pushed the door open she startled the easily frightened pony she could see the tea kettle and daisy sandwiches she looked up and chuckled.

"Shy, come down you look like Opal when Rarity tries to dress her up. Plus I really don't feel like taking another pony to the hospital." Rainbow laughed loudly.

Fluttershy lifted her wings and softly landed before her friend who through all of flight school protected her from the bullies that seemed attracted to her.

"Dash please be more careful you know how easily frightened I am. I don't think I was gonna need to go to the hospital for being on a light I'm to light for it to fall." Fluttershy answered.

"Well just be careful next time okay? You may be light but even under your weight you light could of fallen and you would of gotten hurt I don't want my sister to get hurt." Rainbow answered as she slowly walked over to the mare and nuzzled her cheek.

"I still don't think it would of broken I weigh as much as Angel." She laughed and returned the sign of affection.

Fluttershy walked over to the counter and picked up the tray of tea and daisy and hay sandwiches with her wings and walked to the coffee table with them and set them down Rainbow all the while following her ready to explain her self. The two ponies sat at the table Rainbow on the floor Flutter shy spread out on the couch and she laid her head on her hooves.

"Okay, Dash what was it you needed to tell me? You said it was making you feel awful I hate it when some pony feels awful." Fluttershy said with question in her voice.

"I accidentally knocked someone out this morning when I was practicing my twist on the sonic Rainboom ." Rainbow said as she shoved a sandwich in her mouth.

"Oh Rainbow, Are you okay? How's the other pony doing is he er...she okay?." Shy asked confusion noticeably lingering in her voice.

"I don't know how he's doing I left right after and came here. I felt so bad about hitting him but why was a stallion flying under me he should of seen me." Rainbow grumbled anger twisting her voice in a rather ugly way.

"Rainbow, you may of been going to quickly and he didn't see you sometimes you're far to quick even for your name." Shy responded

" Yeah maybe your right but that's not whats bothering me the most I feel like I knew him. Have you ever felt like you knew someone but didn't know if you did or didn't? I didn't tell Twilight though she's not as good with emotions as you are." Rainbow said shaking her head while answering.

"Maybe he's on your siblings you know from your real parents I mean you never know or we went to school with him. Yes I have but I normally let the feeling brush off of my shoulders." Fluttershy answered

Rainbow paused shaking her head the pure thought of that pony being her sibling was not possible and if he was she will want nothing to do with him her family left her abandoned her at flight school. Out of all the places in the universe they could of dropped a child off they put her in front of a school.

"There's no way he's my brother I remember him a little bit this really pretty purple stallion with a rainbow mane the same as mine. He didn't even look like me he's pure black I'm a light blue sure he has a rainbow mane but that means nothing." Rainbow answered quickly close to snapping at Shy.

"Could there be a possibility that was your father not your brother that stallion could be him I mean you, your self admitted you weren't sure when we were little if it was a brother or your dad. Besides your family is me, Gilda, and Vanilla which reminds me when was the last time you talked to Vanilla?" Shy asked cautiously knowing how touchy that subject was.

  Rainbow looked away her eyes watering she couldn't remember the last time she talked to her sister..or her adoptive dad the head master of the flight academy. She looked at the ground and she imagined the cream colored pony with her white and red mane her vanilla shake cutie mark. Her and Vanilla were so close she Fluttershy and Vanilla the three were inseparable till Gilda came along. She let out a small growl thinking about Gilda the way she treated Shy last time she saw her she had acted so uncool she was not as cool as she thought she was.

"No I haven't talked to Vanilla since we graduated plus I don't think she wants to see me after what happened." Rainbow looked at the ground a small puddle being formed from her tears.

"Oh Dash, You don't know that for certain I mean Vanilla loves you very much. She wouldn't just leave you like that..would she?" She looked at Rainbow silently questioning rainbow.

"After what I did yes she would it hurts knowing my own sibling hates me I know she's not my real sibling but still. I have to go Shy thank you for the tea and sandwiches I'll see you later okay?" Rainbow stood the tears beginning to flow greatly to the point where she could not stop them.

Fluttershy watched as Rainbow ran out the door tears running down her face Shy knew Rainbow for not being sensitive but when it came to Vanilla or her family she was sensitive.

"Oh Rainbow, She knew you mean't no harm why do you still beat your self and stress over this. You don't need to cry you only did what you felt was best." Shy looked at the ground tears running down her face from seeing Rainbow cry though knowing Rainbow couldn't hear her.
