Chapter 1 A Familiar Way to Say Hello __________________________ Whoa Black Betty (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R044sleOW6I) As the music started he went to do a mental checklist "Let's see, Weights?" He looks over to the side of a medium sized room to find a pile of unorganized weights of all shapes and sizes as well as some looking older than some, though they all had a fair amount of scratches and marks on them showing they've been used often."Check. Sparing dummy?" He looked over towards one of the corners of the room to see a peach colored dummy, modeled after a heavy built man, as well as with the titled B.O.B at the botom of the stand it was on."Lookin' fine. Sap gloves?" He takes a pair of gloves that weighed quite a bit come paired to others. He originally bought them as self defense weapons, but never really found a need for them so he often used them as weighted gloves."Alright, I guess it's time to get to training.... As well as to stop talking to myself." As he went towards the weights he felt a small pull on his shirt, but decided it was nothing. That was until he fell flat on his face from a strong tug to the legs. He looked behind to find the source of his aggravation, only to find himself slack jawed at what he saw. Right behind him was a glowing red circle suspended in the air, strange symbols glowing on it. The symbols were pulsating a deep red color, while the rest of the circle kept perfectly still and unchanging. His mind was in a frozen state, unknowing of what to say. Though as soon as he thought about it, he's seen enough horror movies to see where this was going. "Oh Hell No, I am not going to be Satan's fucking sacrifice today!" He went for the door as fast as he could, well, as fast as he could while the pulling of the force got stronger every second. As soon as he got a hold on the door knob, he fell again, only this time he wasn't as lucky as the first. As soon as he lost his foot hold, he began sliding along the hard wood floor. He desperately tried to find something to grab onto. As soon as he had the opportunity he grabbed the biggest weight he had, though something wasn't right, he couldn't get a grip on it. He looked at his hands to see that they were partially transparent."Well, didn't think it'd end like this, but it'll be a cold day in hell if this thing thinks I'm going out without a fight." 'Wow, major cliche sentence, but I'll be damned if it isn't true' He started to stand back up only to feel the pull get more powerful. A massive grin formed on his face as he jumped into the air. Free of friction, the force pulled him towards itself at remarkable speeds. And since the man's arms were already gone and his shoulders were partially transparent, he decided to meet the satanic circle with a headbutt so violent it could shatter stone. Or at least that's what he thought, As soon as his head met red, he was out like a light. __________________________ Two hours earlier at the Public Library in Ponyville "Twilight, it's time for breakfast!" A purple dragon in a apron was working his magic by the stove, while a purple unicorn with bags under her eyes was sloppily making her way down a flight of stairs. After coming down stairs and getting situated by the table she let out a yawn as Spike laid down a plate of eggs and hay bacon where she was sitting."Don't tell me you were studying all night again Twilight." He glared at Twilight disappointingly for a while, she swiftly ignored it while she thought of a reply."Well I have to know as much as possible for the spell Princess Celestia sent me. It's only half way completed, not to mention It's Star Swirl the Bearded spell. It's supposed to be a spell to summo-" She was interrupted when Spike closed her mouth with his claws, not hurting her obviously."Yeah, okay Twilight, you can tell me all about the spell once you eat and get at least five hours of rest." She nodded with Spike's claw still on her mouth."Good." Was all Spike said as he went back to cooking his own meal. "Oh yeah, and Twilight do you have anything I need to do, because Rarity invited me over by her house today to help with some dresses?" Twilight shook her head."No, it's alright, you can go by her house for the evening, just make sure to be back in the evening." Spike smiled as he dug into his food, which instead of bacon was some rubies and gems. After Spike had left the house Twilight went back up towards the top floor where her bedroom was, but a sudden urge hit her. The urge that haunted her ever since she opened up her first book, curiosity. She wanted to preform the spell so badly, the spell that she had spent all last night trying to understand and perfect. She had gotten the basics down for the spells, especially the more exotic magic that required symbols. Though she was very unfamiliar with that type of magic, it being foreign to Equestria. She still had enough knowledge about it to perform the spell correct, and at the very least attempt it. So with that thought in mind she went to perform the spell in the center of the library. After putting the closed sign outside the door of the library she started. She need chalk, a magic dictionary, and magic, lots of magic. As she stood in the middle of the library she started draw the magic template, a circle. Next was the odd symbols she needed to draw around the edges and ones going around the middle. They all had to be connected for magic to flow through it and perform the spell, so after she finished them she couldn't help but feel almost scared at how evil the symbol looked. Though she still didn't feel threatened, for she still had the thirst for knowledge on her mind. With the circle done she only had one thing to do, gather enough magic for the spell to actually work. This would probably take around an hour or so. So she sat down next to the circle opened a book and started to read while she gathered all the magic she could in her horn. __________________________ In the morning in a small apartment room, with a man sitting down with a cup of coffee "Today's going to be a great day, I can feel it. Might as well start today's exercise." He sighed as he headed off to another room in his small apartment. __________________________ An hour later in the library Twilight was panting heavily in the library, her horn was glowing as bright as when she carried that Ursa Minor. She couldn't help but smile as she carefully lowered her horn towards the chalk drawn circle on the floor. She was about to do it, the spell she had studied for over the last couple of days. As her horn touched the chalk, all of her magic was transferred to it, making it grow as bright as her horn was. Twilight couldn't contain her happiness, she was about to preform a spell Star Swirl the Bearded only half completed, it took her days, but her effort was about to show."Finally, it's about t-" She was interrupted by a long yawn, as well as drowsiness, she remembered she hadn't slept in the last two days. She started to get a little dizzy and to her complete obliviousness, one of her hooves swiped across one of the glowing purple symbols, smearing it. Once out of her daze, she concentrated back towards the spell, which was turning a tint of dark red. She wondered if she had done the spell, but quickly went over it in her mind again, checking off a mental checklist of what she did. She had gotten everything right, so through her carelessness, and maybe a little lack of sleep, she decided that it was normal for it to turn a different color. It had, after all, been quite a ancient spell. So switching from nervous to happy, she looked at the circle on the ground which started to hover then turn on a ninety degrees to where it was facing her. A million thoughts were going through her mind, all of them hopeful. After the circle started to glow brighter, she knew something was going to come out of it, something loyal only to her.'Finally, it's coming, my own familiar.' She was about to summon the most loyal creature a unicorn could own, as Star Swirl the Bearded said in a description he left of what the spell was supposed to do. She was hopping around with glee, that was until she saw something come out of the circle at a extremely fast pace hitting her square in the head. She felt pain, she was loosing consciousnesses fast, either from pain or lack of sleep she could hardly keep her eyes open. Though she did catch a quick glance at what she had conjured to be her familiar, what she saw mystified her. She had expected it to be a animal of some kind like Star Swirl said it would be, but she couldn't recognize what type of animal it was. That was all she could think of as her vision quickly started to fade to black. //-------------------------------------------------------// A Familiar Introduction //-------------------------------------------------------// A Familiar Introduction Chapter 2 A Familiar Introduction _____________________________________________________________ The library was quiet, with nothing moving except for the occasional slight twitches the two bodies laying on the floor. Twilight was near one of the library windows when a slit of sunlight aimed perfectly at one of her eyes started to agitate her. She woke up from unconsciousness, blinking her eyes, but immediately regretting it as sunlight got directly in her eye. She quickly closed the curtains with her magic and tried to remember what happened to make her black out. She closed her eyes mentally think of what had happened.'Okay Twilight, think of what happened. I had breakfast with Spike, performed the spell, then summoned.. A.. Familiar.' She slowly turned her head around to find what she expected to be a type of diamond dog, rather deformed to. A smile slowly started for around her mouth as she realized that it was her familiar, though she could have sworn it should have looked like a animal she was familiar with, like a phoenix or timber wolf. After all, the spell said the familar was supposed to call upon a spirit and take the form of something you recognized, but she had no idea what this was. She felt safer though, realizing that it was supposed to be her familiar. She decided to walk over towards it and take a closer look. As she got within a meters length of it, she saw that it didn't look like a diamond dog at all. It was laying on its side with its back turned towards her so she couldn't get a good look at its face, or if it even had a face.  It did share some similarities with a diamond dog, the most noticeable is it looking like it is supposed to stand on two legs as well as arms, but that's where the similarities end. The familiar didn't have fur anywhere on its body except for its head, it also didn't have paws, but instead had something similar to Spike, though something was covering it. He also wore clothing Twilight has never seen before, and this surprised her. She had always thought being friends with Rarity would help her keep to date with the latest fashion, but she had no idea what kind of clothing it was. The familiar wore clothes that shrouded its upper body in black and he wore a type of clothes on his bottom half that had a tan appearance to it. It also had what she thought were horseshoes, though they seemed more flexible than any metal could be, so once it had awaken she would definitely ask it about them. She walked over to the other side of the familiar and discovered that it did indeed have a face. Although it was very different from what she had expected. It didn't have a muzzle like diamond dogs, it instead was pretty flat in comparison. It also had ears sticking out from the sides of its head, and in more of a shell like shape compared to diamond dogs or ponies. She wondered what her new familiar could do. What defenses it had or if it had been better at magic, but she realized something as the thoughts ran through her mind. Is it alright? Is it still alive? She was panicking at this point. She was so caught up in examining her familiar that she complete forgot if it was alright or even alive for that matter. She tried to see if there was any inflation in the chest to see if it was breathing. Thankfully she could see it slowly moving, even under the baggy clothes it wore. She let out a breathe of relief and decided it was time to wake up her new familiar and introduce herself. Gathering some magic in her horn, ready to fight if she needed to, as Star Swirl said 'Prove your worth' to the familiar, she started to nudge it with her hoof. Nothing, she nudged again, except a little harder, nothing. She decided that it probably would be better to just let him wake up naturally than to force it, so she discharged the magic in her horn and picked a book from one of the shelves and read it. __________________________________ Familiar's POV 'Did I really anime style headbutt a demonic circle... I'm a fucking idiot' I was laying on the floor on my side when I finally came to. I had such a headache, maybe slight concussion as well. I decided to flip over onto my back, and while feeling more comfortable I noticed that the wood I was laying on didn't fell the same against my head. I expected to slide along a hardwood floor since I should be in my workout room, but instead the wooden floor was much more grain like, almost as if it had just plain unrefined wood. I opened my eyes, hoping to be greeted with my white ceiling, I was instead looking at a brown roof that looked to be made out of wood. I blinked, again, again, and again, but it was still there. I sat up and looked around, still a little out of it. Though that still didn't stop me from seeing a floating book suspended in mid air near a..Well, I'm not so sure what it was. It looked like a horse, smaller than a normal one. It's eyes were bigger than any animal that went through evolution had the right to have, Its head also seemed a little too big, but could pass for normal I guess. The thing that really irked me though was that it had a horn....'Well, I'm going to lay down until things start making sense again.' And so I did. I put my hands behind my head, laid back down, and dosed off. Sometime later I woke up, still seeing that same brown ceiling, though on the plus side my headache was gone. I was about to get back up until I heard some voices. __________________________________ Twilight's POV "I'm sorry Twilight, I don't think I can help your.. Familiar, I've never seen a animal like this, except for diamond dogs. And I hardly think anything I know about them applies to it." Fluttershy said in a almost apologetic way. I couldn't help but sigh."I know Fluttershy, it's just that I'm not so sure if it's hurt or not. I summond it a while ago and it hasn't woken up yet. Though it did change the way it was laying down while I was waiting." I looked back at my familiar. It had its arms crossed behind its head while it slept, something similar to how Rainbow would relax and dose off. Though I don't think anything pony related could be used for my familiar. For all I know it could be regenerating any injuries it's sustained, or it could just be relaxing, this is really agitating me. "Look, please Fluttershy, I just want to see if my familiar's okay." I decided to try to give her puppy eyes like I've seen Sweetie Belle give Rarity at times."A-alright Twilight, if it's for you." Fluttershy walked cautiously over to my familiar and looked closely at it, she then looked confused."Uh, Twilight, I can't see its body." I face hoofed and answered,"Alright then let me see if I can get them of-" That was as far as I got before my familiar quickly got up and, nearly scaring Fluttershy half to death causing her to faint and began to speak in a voice that sounded male. __________________________________ Familiar's POV "No, offence, but no one undresses me unless I want them to. And you certainly aren't one." 'Wow, way to sound like a major asshole, first meeting with a unknown species to, smooth.' It didn't matter really though, the one near me fainted and the other one, Twilight I think, was so shocked that I got up so quickly my words passed right over her head. _____________________________________________________________ Author's Notes So I couldn't get the author's notes to work so I'm just going to do it down here. So, chapter two of the rewrite and some answer to your questions if you have them. 1.Yes there will still be fighting contests. 2.Yes I did decide with them speaking the same language. Specifically because it was hard as hell to copy words from different languages and put them together to make a sentence. 3.Yes I do need a editor.
