Missed Opportunities

The sharp, yet dull echo of clinking silverware, jazz music and delighted partygoers pattered against the sleeping ears of Spitfire and Rainbow Dash, still tucked under the bedcovers. The redheaded celebrity was the first to respond to the noise, being the more well-rested of the two, rising onto all four legs and releasing a soft, drawn-out yawn.

"Damn it!" Thought Spitfire as she gradually transitioned into consciousness. "Damn it, damn it, damn it! Why in the world am I so afraid to admit to Rainbow Dash that I love her?! I've faced monsters, deadly weather and alien invaders, so why am I so afraid to reveal my true feelings for her? Is it because I'm afraid about the unseen problems of falling in love or is it because there's something more to love than what I know?"

Spitfire looked over to Rainbow Dash, admiring the little blue ears and tuft of colorful hair that poked out of the covers and onto the pillow, the rest of her still sleeping under a burrito of bedding. "Sweet Celestia, you are just too adorable sometimes, Dashie... Oh, if only I had the courage to tell you how much I love you. Your wine-stained eyes, your cute little nose, your shimmering hair, your noble heart - ever loyal to your own friends and personal values... Just looking at you makes my heart pound and nethers moisten. You're so beautiful and yet I hardly know anything about who you really are. I want to learn all about you, but I'm so afraid of learning something about you that would hurt our relationship. My heat, it burns so badly for you, Rainbow Dash! Why can't I just let it all out and be done with it so we can finally live, play, laugh, love and have hot, hot sex happily ever after? Why can't Cadence just spread a bit of her love over to--"

The yellow mare suddenly felt a gigantic, cartoony light bulb appear over her head.

"That's it! We'll both fly down to Canterlot tomorrow and have Cadence share some of her magic with us! She's always spreading good vibrations and positive feelings wherever she goes, so why can't Wonderbolts like us have some, too? Oh Rainbow Dash, you'll be mine before you even know it..." Spitfire grinned deviously, rubbing her hooves together like a mad scientist from some cheesy old B-movie. Just thinking about their future together was enough kindle to resurrect the fires of her estrus.

Releasing a blissful sigh, the incessant swarm of hormones in her system carried her mind away to her private vault of romantic fantasies, her consciousness once again clouded with the silken visions of her and her crush. She could see it now, almost right before her coffee-brown eyes...

A golden hoof bedewed with a freshly shed tear pulled back the lid of a black velvet box, revealing a glimmering gold halo adorned with a diamond thunderbolt before the blinding flashes of a hundred flash bulbs and the magenta eyes of a breathless blue mare.

"Is this...?"

"Yes it is, my love - I had it custom-made just for you."

The crowd stood silent with hearts burning and lungs frozen, as did the young Wonderbolt in the shadow of her golden-skinned lover. Her nerves danced with electricity and fire filled her breast, anxious to hear those next honey-slick words emerge from those thin, beautiful lips across from her.

Breathlessly, she spoke. "S-spitfire...Does this mean...?"

"Yes it does, my love. Rainbow Dash... Will you marry me?"

Seconds turned into hours after those golden syllables dropped from her mouth like apples from a tree. Now was the moment of truth. The final obstacle in her quest to win the heart of her lover was here at last and all she had to do was find whatever breath she had left to say those words that would ensure them both a lifetime of marital bliss.

And she succeeded.

"YES!!!"

The two Pegasi threw themselves at each other, lips meeting lips and tongues fighting tongues. The crowd roared in applause as journalists from across Equestria immortalized the happiest moment of their lives. Though they were at the center of an audience of thousands of other Ponies, Spitfire and Rainbow Dash were in their own world, kissing fervently as hooves explored each others sensitive bodies, eliciting a chorus of lustful moans beneath draperies of warmth and passion. Spitfire could not take it anymore; now was the time to submit to the ancient demands etched into her very genes and show just how much she means to her.

With a creamy moan and a heart painfully swollen with passion, the golden mare deftly slid her hoof down the toned blue body of her love, eager to defile the delicate flower of her virginity. Slowly did the hoof's saffron enamel made its torturously slow descent from her love's beating heart, to her soft underbelly, to her sensitive lap and ultimately, to her delicate, savory, swollen, soaking wet...

"Umm...What are you doing, Spitfire?"

Spitfire snapped out of her fantasy and into lucidity, finding herself in a very awkward position. Her right arm was outstretched, resting its hoof on a certain sky-blue belly, whose owner was looking back at her with blazing-red cheeks and a look of pure bafflement and embarrassment - an expression soon mimicked by Spitfire.

Spitfire quickly withdrew her hoof, grinning with guilt like a pop star caught lip-syncing. "Umm...Cuddling...?"

Certainly not the best choice of words.

"Spitfire, you've been acting really weird lately..." Said Rainbow Dash. "I know you're in heat, but come on! You're always bending over to pick up something you dropped in front of me, you've been staring at me like a creep, you shake your ass whenever you walk in front of me and just now, you insist on sleeping with me and touching my belly!" The Saffron stuntmare cringed, feeling very ashamed of herself. "So what are you trying to tell me, Spitfire? Do you... Do you have a crush on me?"

The captain felt her blood run cold. She was confronted with an armor-piercing question fired straight at her heart by her admiree about her estrus-driven behavior. Cornered, heated, sweating and absolutely nowhere to run, she felt her body tense up like an imploding car, pressure growing stronger and stronger and stronger until...

...She let it out with a tired, defeated sigh. "Yes, Rainbow Dash." She said, her voice saddened and deflated. "Yes, I do have a crush on you..."

Rainbow Dash felt like somepony just struck a match inside her heart and soul. She stared at Spitfire head-on, blushing furiously as she looked into those familiar, sultry amber eyes. Though her soul burned with the heat of passion and her clit swelled with lust, her brain was seizing with erratic impulses - her thoughts darting around her mind like a bee trapped behind two window panes. What should she do? Lunge fourth with a passionate kiss? Walk away? Say something? Sure, but what exactly should she say?

C..come...C'mon, Rainbow Dash! Th-think of something! Spitfire's waiting for an answer and she looks very sex-- I mean, worried!

Rainbow's words snuck out in a little whisper. "I...I...Thank you. That...means a l-lot to me, Spitfire..." She squeaked, nervously avoiding eye contact with the mare across from her. Spitfire breathed a mental sigh of relief, resting her psyche on the sight of that cerulean tomboy's curvy face, red-hot cheeks and how she was always so rough and tough, but so sexually innocent on the inside. Bonus points for being intolerably adorable when she's shy.

The two fillies sat on their rumps, staring at each other with wide, vacant eyes like a couple of cats. Spitfire felt the urge to lean forward and crush her lips against Rainbow's, the cyan athlete feeling the exact same urge - hot magentas staring into warm browns. Shivering and sweating, they were both paralyzed with pure, nervous sexual tension, the air thick with emotional electricity. Both ponies were too scared to do anything - like deer in the headlights, expecting the other to be brave enough to make the first move.

Neither of them did. Their hearts audibly beating.

Please, Rainbow Dash... Find the courage I don't have to press our lips together...

Until Rainbow made the first move....

"Well...I'm feeling kind of hungry, so if you don't mind, I'm going to head to the party; it is my party, after all. Coming along, Spitfire?" She asked.

The captain snapped out of her trance at Dash's response. "Huh? Oh! Yeah, I'm coming!" Spitfire leapt off of the bed, following Rainbow Dash into the golden light peeking out of the half-open door. "Save some cake for me, rookie!"

"I would if Soarin' doesn't eat it all, first!"

"Hey, slow down a bit, Dash! This isn't a race!"

"Getting a little slow, are we, Spitty?"

"Sh-shut up! I'm the captain around here, noob!"

"Hey!"

You chickened out on the perfect chance to make out and make love, and now you're playing hard to get?! Damn it, Rainbow Dash, why do you do this to me?! Anh, that musk... Stop making me so wet!
