It is a sunny day, Rainbow Dash and her mother White Light are out shopping in the Cloudsdale square. As they walk down the street White Light runs into an old friend, Summers Peek.
"Oh hello summers what are you doing here?" White light asks
"Just shopping with Fluttershy." Summers peek responds
"Oh thats nice and look how big you have grown now." Fluttershy blushes
"Yes she is getting big isn't she?" They both look at Fluttershy as she looks to the ground nervously
"Well I better get off now, Rainbow is getting restless, bye"
"Bye White Light."
Rainbow and White Light walk back home.
"Mummy why can't I fly like the other Pegasus's?" Rainbow asks
"You know you are not the only Pegasus that can't fly right? Your classmate Fluttershy can't either." White Light responds with a smile.
"Yeah but she is weird and I don't want to be weird like her."
"She is not weird." White light says quickly "she is just a bit shy."
"She is weird mum and don't deny it."
"I guess she is a bit strange." They both giggle a bit and walk off home.
When they got home Rainbow ran to her room and lay'd down while White Light packed away the food and sat down. After about five minutes she hears a knock at the door, she gets up and opens it, its Fluttershy.
"Um hello Mrs White Light can um Rainbow Dash come out and play." Fluttershy said nervously
"Oh of course I will just get her, Dashie you have a visitor."
"Who? Is it one of those jerks from school?" Rainbow Dash asks
"It is Fluttershy."
"Oh her, tell her I'm sick."
"No Dashie just come down"
"Oh if I'm a bother I will just leave." Fluttershy says with a sadness in her eyes
"No It's no bother, I will go and grab her for you."
After a minute of arguing White Light walks back to the door, Fluttershy is still nervous
"She will be down in a minute." White light tells Fluttershy
"Oh okay, thanks." Fluttershy responds with a bit of fear in her eyes.
When Rainbow walks down the stairs all of Fluttershy's fears and worries appeared to disappear.
"Hello Rainbow!" Fluttershy said enthusiastically
"Hi Fluttershy." Rainbow said not so enthusiastically
They walk down to the park, Rainbow started playing but Fluttershy was happy looking at Rainbow the entire time. After Rainbow finished playing they walked home in silence again, Fluttershy was starting to feel uncomfortable so she starts up a conversation.
"Why don't you have a father?" Fluttershy asks
"Because." Dashie answers hastily
Fluttershy begins to tear up at the fact she was spoken to so meanly
"I'm sorry, it's just, I don't like to talk about it." Dashie explains
"Oh, okay then." Fluttershy responds
After a five minute silence Rainbow Dash began to talk "It was a rainy day, and my father was on a weather team, a freak storm from the Everfree had hit the earth ponies and was causing havoc but my dad was the only one who was left to fight the storm because everyone else went to other places to help out Celestia, when he flew in to control it, he underestimated it, lightning was shooting everywhere, a lightning bolt struck him and he fell to the ground, he was rushed to the hospital and died when he got there, it was a full week before my mother told me what happened, when she told me I could not breath, talk, or walk, from that day though I promised myself I would fly just like my dad did, I promised I would join the weather team like him so I could fight what killed him. That's why I don't have a father." There was silence, Dashie looked over at Fluttershy and saw her crying
"What are you crying about? It wasn't your father." Dashie said
"But.....it......was......so.......sad." Fluttershy broke down in tears
"Come on let me walk you home." Rainbow Dash walked Fluttershy home and said goodbye before going home herself.
When Dashie got home it seemed some wind had picked up around Cloudsdale, her mother was in the Living room watching her favorite show fresh prince of Bel mare
"Have fun?" White Light asked
"Surprisingly, yes." Dashie said happily
After dinner Dashie walked up the stairs, brushed her teeth, had a shower and went to be.
Rainbow Dash was suddenly woken up by a loud crash, she screamed, her mother ran up to her "Dashie get under your bed." As she went under she caught a glimpse of what was outside, it was a tornado, as her mother struggled to reach Dashie the roof was ripped off, White Light grabbed hold of the door frame, she looked at Dashie and said "Your so precious to me, Dashie of mine." She was ripped from the door frame and flung further than the eye could see, than Dashie too was flung, but not as far as her mother. Rainbow Dash lifted her head trying to figure out what has happened, she thought where was her mother, where was her house and where was she.She realised what had happened, she felt her sore head and realized she was bleeding out of a gash, she tried to scream but could not make a single noise, so she tried to cry but she could not cry either, as her head bled she began to feel dizzy, her vision began to get darker and as she fell out of consciousness she said one word "Mummy."
Rainbow Dash opens her eyes, all she can see is pure whiteness, after a few moments of blinking she regains her sight, she looks around at her surroundings, only being able to make out basic shapes, she figures she is in a hospital room She see's a blob, from a distance it looked like black cloud but once the figure got closer she realized it was a pony "mum!?" Dashie asked
"No, Miss Dash, I am Officer Kit, I am sorry to say but your mother is missing and, well sorry to put it harshly, dead." Her mother is dead, what was going on through Dashie's mind at that point was multiple emotions "Would you like some time?" Dashie did not respond. All she could do was think of how her life would be from that point on, would she live with another family member she has never met or would she be left in an orphanage alone left to be forgotten. She began to cry and beg Celestia to bring her mother back, she screamed and demanded but it was no use Celestia could not hear and even if she could, she could never bring Rainbow Dash's mother back.
The door opened but this time it was a Doctor,"Hello Miss Dash, I am here to examine you. Do you mind if we ask you a series of questions and check for any serious injuries?" Dashie agreed. After the examination she was given the all clear, she was let out and given to a orphanage. The orphanage was run by a grey pegasus which Rainbow Dash was forced to call 'Lady Ball'. Lady Ball was a cruel pegasus, she hated Rainbow because she was jealous of Rainbow Dash's colourful coat. The orphanage was run down, floors cracked and cloudmites in the beds and floors. Dashie was given a room with another pegasus named Twinkle Dust. Twinkle Dust was a purple coated pony with a purple mane, she had glasses and cute red eyes. She was Rainbows only friend through a lot of her childhood.
Rainbows first few months were hard after her mothers death, her grades at school went downhill and she still couldn't fly.
