Applejack was visiting her friend Twilight, asking for a book about how to increase her productivity of apple farming. Applejack knocked on the door, hoping her friend would be home, and she was, “Oh, hi AJ, said the unicorn, what brings you to the library?” “Howdy Twi,” said the earth pony, “I’m looking for a book that’ll help increase mah productivity in apple farmin. Big Mac and the rest of us have bucked plenty of apples, but we’re still mighty hungry, I was wonderin if you had a book about increasin the productivity of applebucking I could borrow?”
“Why sure,” Twilight said with a smile, “anything to help a friend.” She let Applejack inside. “Now, let’s see if I can go and find that book for you.” Applejack looked around the library while Twilight was in another room looking for her applebucking book. While she was casually browsing the shelves, she came across a peculiar looking book. What’s this? She wondered as she pulled it from the shelf. The cover sported to ponies with very prominent beards, and it had a picture of a picture of a hammer and a sickle crossing each other diagonally, “The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels” she softly read aloud. For some reason, she felt as if the book was meant for her to read. Maybe it was the hammer and sickle, tools that all earth ponies used to create their livelihoods. She was just about to read it when Twilight came in with the book she had requested.
“Hey AJ, I found a book that might help you, A 1001 Ways to Buck All You Can Get Out of Your Apple Farm. What’re you reading?”
“Oh nothing important Twi,” said the earth pony with a convincing grin. “But would you mind if I borrowed two books instead of one? This one looks mighty interesting.”
“Oh sure AJ!” Twilight said with a smile. “It’s always nice to see my friends reading and expanding their knowledge. Maybe you and I could discuss books sometime!” Twilight clapped her hooves in delight.
“Heh, yeah maybe.” Applejack replied. “But I gotta go now, Big Mac’s waitin for me to help him with some chores around the farm. See ya later Twi.” She said as she went out the door.
“Bye AJ!” Her unicorn friend cheerily said to her as she walked out the door

Applejack then ran to the nearest park bench to read the book that had so intrigued her. The first thing she read was a quote stating that “The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.” She snorted at that, thinking that Equestria has been at peace for years, and that everyone’s happy here. She continued to read on, she was sitting on that bench for hours, completely lost in the message of these “Communists” and when she finally reached the last quote, “Workers of the world, unite!” She started to question the world around her. Why did earth ponies have to work so hard yet remain hungry and just barely making ends meet? Why do the pegasi have to work so hard to manipulate the weather to benefit all ponies, yet they are treated as inferiors by the unicorns and alicrons, who laze around in their posh city of Canterlot, yet do absolutely nothing to benefit society?
Applejack came to the conclusion, “It’s because they don’t care, they never cared. We’re as dispensable to them as a piece of toilet paper.” She came to the realization that the capitalist society that is the framework of Equestria could only ever benefit the rich and elite, whilst everypony else is destined to live in squalor. It all makes sense now, she thought to herself, they just don’t care. That explains why the royal guard comes to take most of their crop to feed the Canterlotians, while leaving barely anything for her family or all of ponyville to eat.
She realized that most of the ponies in ponyville looked rather skinny, almost to the point where they shouldn’t be able to carry out their everyday lives, yet unicorns like Rarity and Twilight seem to be well fed and happy. No, Applejack thought to herself, their your friends, they would never do that to you. But doesn’t it seem odd that Rarity constantly makes fun of Applejack for being rather unkempt, when she knows full well that Applejack is desperately trying to keep her family’s financial heads above water by bucking as many apples as she can, hoping to make a profit at the market? Or Twilight, who always seems to look down on her just because she doesn’t have perfect grammar?
Oh my celestia, Applejack thought, they never cared about me, or Big Mac, or anypony who wasn’t a unicorn. They only ever saw us as disposable laborers to give them what they want, while they sit in luxury. Applejack thought that maybe if she brought this book to her family they could read it and maybe give her a different perspective on the contents of this book.
She ran home and yelled, “Big Mac! Big Mac! Where are ya Big Mac?” “Eeeeeeyup?” Big Mac gave out his usual reply and his sister ran to him. “Big Mac. I just read this book, and it started makin me think that we’re just a bunch of laborers that nopony cares about, read this book, maybe you’ll disagree with me and we can go back to applebuckin fer everypony.” “Eeeeeeeeyup,” Big Mac replied, as he took the book upstairs.
A few hours later, Big Mac came downstairs with the book in hoof. Applejack asked him, “So, what do ya think, I was just being crazy right? Alicorns and unicorns actually care about us right?”
“Nnnnnnnnope.” Big Mac replied with a look of disgust on his face. It hit Applejack like a ton of bricks. They were being taken advantage of, they were always being taken advantage of, and they were too blind to realize it. Applejack turned to her brother, “Big Mac, we need to let everypony know about this, we can’t keep livin the way we are.”
“Eeeeeeeeyup.” Big Mac said solemnly to Applejack, who was too busy thinking about how she could get everypony to realize that if they weren’t a unicorn or alicorn, they were being taken advantage of.
