Journal entry #478. recording...

Suddenly a man's face appeared on the screen of the laptop sitting carefully on the desk made from boxes and crates. The man's face was ragged, broken, and fearful. The man had short black hair and small stubble growing along his jaw. His blue eyes silently stared at the screen for a while before finally speaking.

"Hey....I have to make this entry quick because our company is moving out. The funny thing is, for once I have a lot to get off my chest and now... I just can't seem to put things into words..." He said with a chuckle. He sighed in a sad tone as his expression turned to a mournful one. “I guess the easiest way to explain it would be to say... Say that this war was totally pointless. Lives lost by the thousands, if not hundreds of thousands.”

His eyes went to the left as another figure stepped into the view of the camera, although his head was cut off by the camera’s lens. There was some muffled speaking coming from the figure as the man’s face grew dark.

“WHAT!? They want us to simply charge up to the gate!? That is bloody suicide!!” The man shouted. There was a bit more muffled speech before the man stuck his face into his hands and sighed. The figure in the background patted the man on the back before stepping out of the camera’s view. The man gave a sigh as he looked back up at the camera.

“Well the final assault is about to begin. They general is taking several squads from all companies to fly in over the gates in Helos to hopefully get the element of surprise on these pony fucks so the squads can sneak in and take down the target.” He said as he stood up and gathered his gear. “The target being the monarch herself. Celestia.”

He slipped his pack over his urban camo uniform and looked at the camera again. “So if this is the last time I see you... I want to thank you for being there for me. This is Sergeant Jenson. Signing off.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~
It felt weird to Jenson how he thanked his laptop for being there for him. He sighed as he remembered all of the times he was in the hospital watching videos when ever he was wounded by a unicorn’s magic bolt grazing him or nearly splattering him. He shuddered at the memories of his fellow soldiers getting blown apart by magic bolts. He shook to clear the memories and began to walk out of his tent and towards the armory to gather his weapons.
Firebase Eagle was well fortified for a makeshift base but what it had in fortifications it lacked in morale. They were on the frontlines and night raids kept most of the men up at night, the tents were hole ridden or completely destroyed save for a few like Jenson’s. The armory however was a hardened bunker that was dug into the earth and reinforced with a concrete roof. It was located several hundred yards away so Jenson had time to reflect on how crappy the base looked. No matter, soon he would be either dead or relaxing in canterlot with a cold drink in his hand.
Today was the final push and soldiers were readying themselves, across the front lines soldiers from all nations were massing to end the war and usher in a new age of peace for human, and hopefully, pony kind.
The soldiers were doing different things to keep themselves busy or to ready up for the fight. Whether it was cleaning their guns for the twentieth time that day or sharing a small bottle of whiskey to calm their nerves. Some were even were trying to call home, though being in a totally different dimension is going to mess with your cell service.
Jenson shook his head as he remembered his family. After his parents passed he and his family grew apart. His sister went on to be some executive while his brothers all joined the war effort making weapons, being doctors, and in Jenson’s case joining the actual war. As he walked he heard one soldier talking on a phone.
“Mom? Its me, yes i’m okay. Hows holly?... Thats good, look I just wanted to call and say...I love you... I can’t tell you why, no its top secret. Yes I’d like to talk to dad.......Dad? Hello sir, yes sir, no sir. Love you too sir. Tell Ludmilla I love her. Kay bye.” The soldier hung up and looked at Jenson with a worried face. “Got any family you want to call?” He said offering up his phone.
Jenson blinked for a moment before he sighed and looked at the phone. He nodded and took the phone gently and stopped as though back to his sister’s work number. He mouthed the numbers as he punched them into the phone and brought it up to his ear as it rang. He turned to the soldier and mouthed the words ‘Thank you’ as he heard someone pick up the phone.
“Hello?” Jenson heard a feminine voice say.
“Hey, Thianna, It’s Jack. How is it going?” Jenson asked
“Oh hello Jackie! How goes the war over there?” Thianna asked. She was Jenson’s sister’s secretary that he had yet to meet, but spoke to her plenty of times.
“Um... Good I guess. Look I need to talk to Katie.” Jenson said.
“Oh... Well she is in a very important meeting right now. She can’t talk right now.” Thianna said. Jenson sighed and rubbed his eyes before he looked over the soldiers that were readying themselves. “Is something wrong Jack?”
“Uh...” Jenson muttered before he simply said. “Naw nothing is wrong. It... Look I may be gone for a while. Just tell my sis that I love her okay?”
“Of course Jack, I’ll tell her as soon as she is done. Is there anything else?” Thianna said
“Naw... Just um... Look after her. See ya Thianna.” Jenson said as he hung up the phone. He handed it back to the soldier and sighed. “Thanks.”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure this will be over soon enough.” The Soldier said still looking worried.
“Just keep your gun clean and don’t miss. You’ll be fine.” Jenson said forcing a smile as he walked away. “Go get ready soldier! We have a long battle ahead of us.”
“Aye Aye.” The soldier said, Jenson noticed his branch was Marines which explained the ‘Aye Aye’.
“Get your asses in gear! We make the push in less than an hour!” An Officer shouted. Jenson simply continued his walk and arrived at the armory. He opened the doors and walked down the stairs before spotting the Quarter Master, James or Ironhide as everyone else called him.
“Sup Jenson, I got your gear ready for you.” Ironhide said. Jenson nodded as he was lead into a small room where his guns were placed and readied for pick up. Jenson walked over and picked up his M4A1 with an Acog scope and foregrip attached to it. After strapping that over his shoulder he picked up his .45 1911 Standard issue and put it in it’s holster. And grabbing several grenades as well as his combat knife before turning to Ironhide.
“Thanks James. For everything.” Jenson said holding out his hand for Ironhide. “It’s been nice knowing you. So if this is goodb-”
“Whoa whoa whoa Jenson, don’t bring the Negative vibes in my armory. You’ll make it out brother.” Ironhide stopped Jenson from finishing the sentence. “You know as well as I do that bullets go through those ponies armor and magic fields better than a warm knife through butter.”
He was right. Humans never had any contact with magic, so whatever comes from their world was practically a glorified magic sponge. This was a gift and a curse in many situations. Our weapons could rip through their magic barriers and puncture armor easier, but if you got hit by one of those magic bolts in the stomach or head, you were a goner.
Jenson remembered this one soldier that he was with a few weeks back. They were marching through a town called ‘Ponyville’, how original, when this rainbow maned pegasus came out of freaking nowhere and stabbed him with a Magic cell crystal or whatever it was called. It wasn’t all that bad just a small stab in his kevalar, but apparently it got to is skin and his body absorbed all of the magic inside. Next thing Jenson knew his head exploded leaving a bloodied helmet, a blood fountain of a corpse, and a traumatized pegasus. She got away before anyone could get her and Jenson never saw her again.
“Well anyway... Thank you.” Jenson said as he walked towards the exit. “I have to go now. Tell you what, if I survive drinks are on me.”
“Yeah. That would awesome.” Ironhide said as Jenson left. He walked to his chopper and hopped inside as the rest of the soldiers assigned climbed in as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The fight had begun.

All the soldiers from every nationality was there. Enemies fighting side by side and allies sticking close. It didn’t matter who you were or where you were in this war. With an almost deafening loud war cry, the soldiers all charged towards the city known as Canterlot.

It was like like something out of a videogame. Soldiers ran up to the city as Unicorn, Earth pony, and Pegasi attacked. Jenson watched as the ponies were gunned down by the soldiers and grenades that showered the ponies. The ponies themselves did not give up easily though. They shot magic bolts and threw out their own version of grenades. Like grenades they exploded, but they shot out magic bolts and waves instead of shrapnel.

It was sickening hearing the screams that erupted from the war below. The humans screaming over their limbs being torn off or for their fallen comrade. Ponies much in the same as some fell back while others became fiercer and attack with a enraged vigor. It wasn’t even ten minutes into the battle and the landscape was already littered with craters, bodies, and spent ammunition.

They arrived over Canterlot soon enough and were heading for the LZ when a swarm of Pegasi soldiers attacked all of the Choppers. Jenson watched as a Russian chopper fell from the sky and landed somewhere in the city. Two more soon followed and soon they attacked his Chopper. His fellow soldiers shot at the pegasi, but there were too many. Some soldiers were pulled from the chopper and thrown to the ground below while some were simply speared by a lance that some of the Pegasi were carrying.

Before he knew it, they had somehow jammed the Helicopter’s propeller and they began to fall. “SHIT SHIT SHIT! We are going down! Mayday! Going down! I repeat we are going do-”

Was all Jenson heard before the helicopter crashed and he blacked out.
