The history of Equestria goes back far beyond its known limits. The Crystal Empire was only the least of these lost historical elements. Only the eldest of immortals are truly aware of the power that lurks beneath the soil, a tyrant who was deemed wicked enough that even Discord was preferable to enduring His rule any longer.

And yet, all things in history are but cycles. That which was imprisoned, even in the deepest prisons, must one day be released.

And, with the destruction of King Sombra, a dark star draws near the horizon that heralds the return of its scion.

Rated Mature for eventual adult content in subsidiary stories; the Dark Star Saga will be made up of multiple stories that go together to make up this… whatever it is. Epic? Do ponies wallow in epicness? In my world, they do! Chapters will range from short interludes that fill in what's going on elsewhere in the world to regular-length chapters that are part of a smaller story that sets things in motion. Though it may seem that the earliest segments don't connect to the ultimate plot, everything has a role to play eventually - even if it's only putting the pieces in position for what they must do in the end. Probably going to pick up an AU tag before I'm done too, simply because S3 (and continuing canon) ends up borking my history, and I'm not going to go through and rewrite everything because of sudden canon contradictions. I may work it in if it can be done without contradicting things, but I'm not going to go back and rewrite from Chapter 1 because they reveal some secret "Valley of the Alicorns" where gods and goddesses frolic and play by the thousands.

This story will involve, primarily, the Mane 6, but also many, many others, including OC's. I hope to keep this all reasonably coherent aqnd entertaining though… just be warned that it's gonna go some seriously warped places before all's said and done.

Because what else would be fitting for, quite literally, the oldest villain in the show's history?
