Long distance calls
It was not that hard to get lost in Ponyville, not because it was a big city, but because most of the buildings looked the same and one could easily get turned around. Fortunately, finding Sugar Cube Corner was not hard, just follow your nose. Really, it was a building made out of gingerbread and frosting, nopony should have a hard time finding this place.
Lyra jumped back as the front door opened just before she knocked, a very hurried Ms. Cake pushing her way out with two babies saddled to her sides. "We can't be late, missing the train means we won't be back in time! Come one honey, get a move on!" The green mare could barely utter hello before the mom was off, letting Mr. Cake catch up. The overworked stallion followed with his head down, his hooves dragging him across the floor. "Pinkie is in charge for the next week or so, go ahead and take up any orders with her Heartstrings."
The mare sat on her haunches as she watched the married couple before shrugging and making her way inside. Pinkie Pie was the reason she came here anyway, though now she was a bit curious on what was going on around town. "Don't worry about them, they always get like this when a big order comes in from famous ponies." The pink one appeared out of thin air behind Lyra, sending her rolling. "O, sorry Ly. I was sure you saw me. But yeah, some big musician is coming to town and the Cakes get to work the big snack table! Why would they only make a snack table though? I mean a lot of ponies would be there, or so I think
That makes sense, at least I know who I am in charge of welcoming. Well, sort of know who it is, and now I know why Pinkie can't do it. "Do you know who this pony singer is?" Lyra brushed herself off as she stood up, making her way to the counter. "The Mayor says I get to be the one to welcome... her.. here. I assume she is a she." Pinkie only nodded at breakneck speeds.
"Well, I only said musician Lyly, and that she is famous. It is hard to get the Cakes to talk when they are busy busy bees like that." The ball of cotton candy sat down on the cash register, crossing her hind legs and resting her chin on a hoof. "We should deduce this further." Lyra went to say something, instead she was just standing there pointing at Pinkie Pie. "I don't think you can use that word like that..."
"Sure it is, my best best friend is Twilight Sparkle, remember? I'm sure I would learn a lot about words." Pinkie just snorted and fell backwards. Heartstrings waited for the "thud" that should follow, but there was nothing. "Pinkie, you okay?" She stretched her head over the counter, looking for her energetic friend, seeing only the wooden floor.
"Here! I know what you need!" The pink one came bouncing down from upstairs with a warped gift balanced on her nose. "This may be the best party I planned, just find a the right place for it and open it!"
How did she... "How did you... What?"
"Just take it home and when it is time... You will know! Now go. Go set it up. Go go go go!"
With that Lyra was shoved back out of the front door, gift on her back. So, I don't even get to plan the party? Just be there as the host? I guess that is fine, I can't be in charge of things anyway. Better make sure Bon Bon is okay with having it there, better yet, let her just find out the hard way.
"What kind of music would she do anyway, and do you play her own music at her parties? Would that make her shallow or rude? Maybe she is just that good. Well her fans would show up, but I don't want to make it feel like a concert or something like it. Why did you do this to me Pinkie? ... And the Mayor... But mostly Bon Bon. I'll get you my pretty."
I'm weird, I need to not monologue in public anymore. Her ears went low as she looked around, thankfully not seeing any other ponies around. "Still at the meeting, thank Celestia. No... stop it Lyra! Stop it now! Ahhh!" Picking up the present with her magic the unicorn ran for the house, she needed to be away from the public right now.
