...You Just Might Get It

Darkness was all that Rainbow Dash could see as she lay still with her eyes shut. She could hear faint voices around her but they were all muffled. She could also feel a sharp pain in her wings as she tried to move them slightly. What had happened? The last thing she remembered was some light and then nothing.

“….think she’s……… up,” She heard a soft voice say with hope and concern.

“Think she’ll…….. when she….. out that…. a….?” A southern voice asked with what sounded like a suppressed chuckle.

“Is she going to stay this way?” She heard Pinkie ask.

“Oh this….. bad, very………” Another voice repeated over and over.

Rainbow Dash had no idea what they were talking about but she did her best to sit up, even though it meant that excruciating pain came back. Struggling, she managed to open her eyes to see her five friends and Spike standing around her, well five if you don’t include Twilight who was pacing the same way she did whenever something bad happened. She looked around to see that she was inside of Twilight’s bedroom which seemed a bit bigger than she remembered, while laying underneath a big blanket on a bigger bed. “What happened?”

She was answered with a hug from Pinkie who seemed to have grown a dozen inches or so. “Oh I’m so happy that you’re finally awake Dashie. You were asleep for so long that I thought you might be in a coma and have a dream where you could talk to pet shop animals and have wacky adventures with obvious endings and pop culture references and-“

“Pinkie, could you please let me breathe?” Rainbow asked trying to push the pink mare off of her.

With reluctance, she let go of Dash while Rarity gave as convincing of a smile as she could. “How are you feeling darling?”

“My wings are hurting a bit and I’m tired but I feel fine, why? And why do you all look bigger?” She asked then listening to a change in her voice. “And why is my voice squeaky?”

All five of the ponies looked between each other, uncertain of what to tell the pegasus. Twilight stopped her pacing and cleared her throat before speaking again, “What do you remember before you went unconscious?”

“Well I was practicing a new trick for the Wonderbolt auditions when I saw some purple light hit me from out of nowhere.  Everything else is just black; so what happened?” She asked again only to be met with uncertainty. “What’s wrong? Did something happen? Are my wings broken?” She asked with fear as she examined her feathered companions.

“No your wings aren’t broken but they are pretty banged up,” Twilight confirmed as Dash let out a sigh of relief until she noticed another strange thing.

“Why are my wings so small?”

The five once again looked at each other and pushed Twilight the closest to the pegasus. “Well the thing is that you might have been accidently hit by a spell I was working on that was going to make my flowers younger before I got surprised by Pinkie and having it shoot into the sky,” She slowly explained to the blank staring pony.

“Huh?”

Twilight rolled her eyes and brought a small mirror for Rainbow Dash to look into along with ear plugs for herself and her friends and a sound barrier for the room. As expected, she didn’t take it very well. She screamed loudly as she saw a younger version of herself in the mirror. “What the hay is going on? Is this some kind of joke? WHY AM I A FILLY?”

Even with their ear plugs, the five ponies’ and dragon’s ear drums were still ringing harshly. “It ain’t that bad sugarcube,” Applejack tried to comfort the now filly Rainbow Dash.

“Not that bad? How is this NOT THAT BAD? I’m a filly; don’t you know what that means?” She asked while glaring daggers at

the farm mare.

“Well, not really but-“

“It means that I can’t go to the Wonderbolt auditions that are in two weeks. You have to be at least eighteen and now I’m only ten!”

“Eleven and five eighths actually,” Pinkie added to everyone else’s confusion.

“Twilight you can turn me back before then can’t you?”

Before Twilight had a chance to respond, the front door to the library opened and three fillies ran up to the bedroom bombarding Rainbow Dash and the group with questions. “What happened? Is Rainbow Dash okay? Did you turn her into a filly? Is she gonna stay like that? Can she join the Cutie Mark Crusaders?” They asked in unison giving Dash a headache.

“Girls settle down please,” Fluttershy pleaded with them. “She needs to relax right now and asking her all of these questions is just going to stress her more than she already is.”

“What are you three doing here?” Rarity questioned them.

Sweetie gave a guilty smile. “We wanted to check on Rainbow Dash and make sure that she was okay.”

“So what happened?” Scootaloo asked in awe.

Twilight repeated what she had tried to explain to Rainbow and they seemed to mostly understand. “So will you be able to change her back?” Apple Bloom asked.

“You will be able to right?” Rainbow asked as well.

“I… I don’t know. Age spells are supposed to be for the highest level unicorns. I couldn’t even get it to work on my flowers; I don’t even know how it managed to work on you.

“Isn’t there some way to change me back? What about the princesses?”

“I already tried sending a letter to Princess Celestia explaining what’s happened several hours ago but she hasn’t sent anything back.”

As if Celestia could somehow hear them, Spike burped out a scroll that accidently hit Rainbow Dash in the face. Twilight read through the letter many times in confusion. “What does it say?” Dash asked holding her nose.

Dear Twilight,

I’m sure that this is a difficult situation and you know that I would assist you, but I am currently far too busy with royal matters to come and help. I do think that this could be a very grand opportunity for you to increase your magical capabilities. I advise that you do not speak of what has happened to Rainbow Dash to anyone else, I’m sure that you will understand and succeed at this task.

Your mentor,

Princess Celestia.

Silence fueled by confusion filled the room as Twilight looked through the letter like it held the answer to life, the universe, and everything. “That’s it?” Rainbow asked flabbergasted. “She’s really not going to help me?”

A knock at the library door interrupted the group to which Rainbow Dash flew down to. Once the door was open, she saw a pegasus with a dark blue coat, a short and scruffy black mane, and a tornado for a cutie mark. “Hello there little miss, is Twilight Sparkle here?”

“I’m right here,” Twilight responded standing in front of Dash. “Is there something you need Mister…?”

“Drift, I’m in charge of the weather team. You see, I’ve been a bit worried as to where Rainbow Dash has been all day and have been looking all over town but no one seems to have any clue as to where she is. I was hoping as one of her closer friends that you might know her whereabouts. She hasn’t reported for weather duty.”

“I’m right here Mr. Drift,” Rainbow said trying to get past the unicorn.

Drift chuckled. “And who is this little filly? She strikes quite a resemblance to Dash. I didn’t know that she had a little sister.”

“I am Rainbow Dash.”

Drift let out another chuckle. “Of course you are little filly.”

“I am,” She insisted.

“Sorry about her; Rainbow Dash brought her here from Fillydelphia so that she could try and make some friends. I think Dash said she was traveling to Las Pegasus to learn some new tricks or something like that. I’m not sure why she wouldn’t say anything but I’ll make sure to inform you if she pops up,” Twilight said with as best of a poker face as she could.

Drift seemed to buy it as he let out a sigh. “Well thank you Ms. Sparkle, have a good day. You too little filly.” With that, he flew off leaving Rainbow to glare at the unicorn.

“Why didn’t you tell him that I’m me?”

“Because Celestia told us not to that’s why. She may not have given a very good reason-“

“She didn’t even give one,” Rainbow mumbled.

“-but she’s my mentor and I trust her decisions as she trust mine. Now we’ll need to figure out where you should stay.”

“Stay? What does that mean? I’m staying at my house.”

“You might be an adult in your head but you’re a filly on the outside. We can’t just let you stay in a house all on your own.”

“Then I’ll stay here?”

“Where you’ll be loud and distract me while I try to find a way to change you back?” She questioned with a raised eyebrow.

“I’d let you stay at the farm sugarcube but I already have enough time spent working and looking after Apple Bloom,” Applejack

said trying not to laugh at Rainbow’s tantrum.

“And I have to babysit for the Cakes and work at Sugar Cube Corner,” Pinkie added.

Perfect. All that leaves is Fluttershy, she’ll probably say I can’t because of her animals and there’s no way that I’m going to stay at Rarity’s. But where else can I… She stopped when she saw an excited look on Scootaloo’s face. No.

“She could stay at my house, my parents wouldn’t mind," Scootaloo offered.

While Rainbow Dash was starting to reconsider Rarity's, Twilight seemed to like the idea. "That seems like a good idea, it's probably best if she stays with someone who's around her new age especially someone without a cutie mark."

"What does that matter?" Dash asked before Twilight pointed next to her with an apologetic smile. Rainbow looked to her Twilight was pointing and was faced with something that horrified and enraged her. "OH COME ON!"
