Ch. 1 Deep in Trouble

Twilight sighed at her desk as she went through the bills, and not for the first time. It had been a week since Spike had his ‘little’ growth spurge and almost right after that Twilight had gotten the bills for everything he had wrecked. Things like the water tower, holes in the walls of Sugarcube Corner, and hospital bills for the Wonderbolts. There was also a list of damaged items from various ponies as well. In the end the total bill came to 8000 bits. And it was due by the end of next week.

Twilight knew she was in a jam. She had money saved up, but it wasn’t nearly enough. There was no way she could ask the princess for help. It wasn’t just a matter of pride, thought that was part of the reason. Spike was her reasonability and she had to take care of this. However, this left Twilight with only two options. The first was to talk to all parties and explain that she couldn’t pay it all on the due day and see if she could work out a payment plan. If that didn’t work then she would have to see if she could take out a loan at the Ponyville Bank. But the problem with that was she would be trading one debt for another. And if they said no, then she would HAVE to talk to the princess.

Just then Twilight heard the door open. Fearing it was another pony with another bill for her, she quickly turned her head to see that it was Cheerilee the school teacher. Twilight smiled at the pink pony as she walked over to her.

“Hello Cheerilee is there anything I can help you find?” asked Twilight.

“Yes,” replied the teaching pony. “I’m looking for a book on space management. You see, the school room has been getting a bit too cluttered lately and I was hoping to find a better way of rearranging everything.”

“I think I have the book you’re looking for,” said Twilight with a smile. “Just give me a minute and I’ll be right back.” With that, Twilight began to search her library for Cheerilee’s book. It only took a few minutes, but when she returned to Cheerilee she found the teacher standing over Twilight’s desk. “Ah, I found your book.” Cheerilee jumped when she heard Twilight and began to blush in embarrassment.

“Sorry,” she said as she accepted the book. “While you were gone I guess I got a little curious. I assumed that you were working on your studies.” She then looked away for a moment. “Do you know what you’re going to do?”

“I think I have a plan,” said Twilight as she dropped her head. “But if it doesn’t work then I’m all out of options.” Cheerilee felt sorry for Twilight and wished there was something she could do to help. If she had any extra money she would have given it to Twilight, but being a teacher didn’t pay as much as it should. Then, without warning, her eyes widened as she thought of a solution for Twilight’s problem.

“Well,” began Cheerilee with a smile, “I might know a pony who can lend you the money.”

“Then I might as well just ask the bank,” replied Twilight. Cheerilee, however, shook her head.

“She’s very different. See, a few years back, I had a similar problem. Then I meet Charity and she bailed me out. All I had to do in return was to work for her until I paid off my loan. I even made a little extra side money. The work isn’t even that hard. I worked maybe two to three nights a week and I was done in a couple of months. But I still work there from time to time because I enjoy it so much.”

For Twilight, this sounded too good to be true. If what Cheerilee was saying was true she could pay off all the debts quickly. But, Twilight had a nagging feeling. What would she have to do? And who was this Charity? She had never heard of any pony by that name. Still, she was running out of time and she trusted Cheerilee. Perhaps she could meet Charity and find out a little bit more.

“Could you arrange a meeting?” asked Twilight. Cheerilee smiled.

“I was actually going to see her tonight. I’ll pick you up at eight.” And with that, Cheerilee left.

Later that night, Twilight was being lead by Cheerilee out near the Everfree Forest. At first it looked like they were heading towards Fluttershy’s home, but when they got the forest they began to walk along the side of it. For a while the two walked in silence until they reached a three story building. It was made of wood and reminded Twilight of one of the buildings in Appleloosa. Outside the building were three mares and two stallions. The mares each had big smiles on their faces but also looked like they were waiting for some pony. The Stallions were an earth pony and a unicorn. The earth pony looked like he was guarding the entrance while the unicorn used his magic on every pony that entered.

Still following Cheerilee, Twilight walked into the building. The main floor was mostly bare. There was a desk near the door as well as several couches and that was it. On those couches were mares with a wide variety of colors and types. There was also a stairway that led to the second and third floors. Looking up she could see that each floor had a railing that went around the floor and each floor had ten rooms with nothing else.

“There she is,” cried out a voice that snapped Twilight away from her observations. Looking at the source of the voice, Twilight saw a lime green earth pony with her white mane tied up in a bun with a house shaped cutie mark. “Cheerilee, it has been so long. Your fans are going to be glad you’re here.”

“Well I better not keep them waiting,” said Cheerilee. She began to walk towards the steps and then stopped. The teacher turned around, walked over to the other earth pony, and whispered something in her ear. Twilight watched as the lime colored pony nodded several times before Cheerilee took off to the upper levels.

“So your name is Twilight,” said the lime pony with a warm smile. “A pleasure to make your acquaintance. I’m Charity and this is my establishment. Cheerilee says that you’re in a bit of a pinch.”

“8000 bits is a pretty big pinch,” muttered Twilight.

“Well I can help you out if you’re willing,” replied Charity. “I can loan you the money tonight if you agree to the terms. Has Cheerilee told you what we do here?” Twilight shook her head no. “Well, I’m not surprised. Well my dear this is a brothel or, as it is more commonly known, a whorehouse.”

Twilight’s eyes budged when she heard that. Not only were places like this illegal, but dangerous as well. Her mother had told her stories about places like this when she was young. “I don’t think this’ll work out,” said Twilight.

“I have to make a living somehow,” said Charity who took no offence to what Twilight had said. “And I have found that this is the fastest way to do it. If I hear that one of my clients is naming names then he is never welcome here again and I see to it that the rumors end quickly. It helps keep some of the girls boyfriends from finding out they work here.”

“That’s one thing I don’t have to worry about. I’ve never had a boyfriend before.”

“What? He turned around on his seat to see that his father was standing in the doorway. Star Chaser was a white stallion with a neon blue mane that was slicked back. His cutie mark was a green star.

“Dad, do we really have to do this?” asked Star Hunter as he got out of his seat.

“Son, it’s a tradition in our family that the eldest son loses his virginity before he takes over the company,” said Chaser. Hunter sighed once more. His family ran several of the weather manufacturing companies in Equestria and had been doing this for the past 300 years. Why this stupid rule was created, Hunter had no idea in hell. “Star Chaser, how good to see you again,” said Charity as two Pegasus ponies walked through the door. Ch. 2 We Meet Again

“Yes,” said Charity. “This stallion wrote down several descriptions of mares he would like to spend some time with. So far I have only been able to find one of them before you and oddly it was the one I thought would be the hardest due to the mane colors. Naturally this service costs more.”

Twilight knew what she was getting at. The higher the cost meant the more money went towards paying off her debt. It also meant more money for her, but she would rather pay off the debt and be done with this all.

“So when do I meet him?” asked Twilight.

“Hopefully in two days,” answered Charity. “I’ll head over to his home and tell him that you are interested. I’ll also find out if he can pay.” She then got up and began to walk towards the door but then stopped. She then reached into one of her saddle bags and pulled out some red, limp plastic thing that Twilight had never seen before. “Oh, I almost forgot to give you this.”

“Ah, what is it?” asked Twilight who stared at it.

“It’s a training tool,” answered Charity. “Here, how about you zap it with some of your magic. Any kind will do really.” Twilight looked at the thing, then at Charity, and then back at the thing. Not knowing what else to do, as well as being slightly curious as to what it was, she sent a low level spell into it. Star Hunter sighed at his desk in the Cloudsdale weather factory. “Alright,” said a happy Rainbow Dash. “Mostly clear skies this week. Easy!” She then looked at the mess Hunter had made and sighed. This wasn’t like him. In the few years she had known him Hunter was an organized pony who always kept him mind on his work. Well, except when he was reading a detective novel. “Ok, what’s wrong with you?”

“N-Nothing,” stammered Hunter. “What makes you think something is wrong?” Rainbow just let out a growl as her eyes narrowed, causing Hunter to sigh. “Ok, something is wrong but it’s…complicated.”

“Well maybe talking about it might help.” Hunter looked at Rainbow Dash for a moment before he nodded. Maybe talking about it would help. Not all the details, of course.

“It’s like this,” he began. “I meet this mare the other night and now all I can think about is her. My mind just keeps drifting towards her.”

“Wow, must have been some date,” commented Rainbow.

“It wasn’t actually a date,” said Hunter as he looked away.

Rainbow Dash tilted her head to the side in confusion. She had no idea what he was getting at. "Stop this!" yelled Passion as she ran towards the unicorn. The guard saw her and dropped her son onto the snowy ground. Once free, the white earth pony with a black mane, ran towards his mother. Passion held her son close to her as she glared at the guard. "What is the meaning of this?"

"Sorry ma'am but that's classified," said the guard as his partner walked out.

"She's not in here," said the Pegasus. "Let's move to the next house."

"Are thou going to do this to every home?" demanded Luna as she slowly stepped forward.

"Afraid so ma'am," said the unicorn. "We have orders to search everywhere in order to find Princess Celestia's sister." Luna glared at the guard, actually causing him to flinch. She then walked over the guard and began to whisper in his ear. The other three ponies watched as the guards expression changed from confidence to pure horror. A few minutes later Luna walked away with the two guards, leaving behind a confused mother and son.

Back at the castle of the Royal Pony Sisters, Celestia looked like she was having a nervous breakdown. She sat on her thrown as she clutched the papers Luna had written close to her heart. She just stared into empty space as she rocked forwards and back. Any pony with a heart could tell that she was worried sick about her sister. Sadly, in the world of politics, hearts were hard to come by.

Next to her stood her advisor Royal Decree, a white unicorn with a blond mane. He knew how much Luna meant to Celestia, however felt differently. The kingdom needed only one princess, one ruler. Luna was unneeded and her departure should be seen as a blessing in disguise. Yet he was smart enough to know not to voice his feelings in front of Celestia.

Suddenly the doors of the great hall opened and in walked Luna, flanked by two guards who kept their heads lowered. Seeing her sister, Celestia flung the papers into the air and ran towards Luna to embrace her.

"Sister, I have been so worried about you," said Celestia as she hugged her little sister.

"It took four months," muttered Luna. The night princess then pulled away from her older sister. "I have been gone for four months and twas only this morning that thou realized my absence. Did thou really think I wouldn't find out?!"

"Sister please," began Celestia. "Forgive me for not noticing sooner. Thou are right, I have made a most grave mistake. But thou can't imagine how worried I was once I thought thou were gone. Maybe forever."

Luna's hard glare, which she had kept since she had left Farmer's Haven, melted slightly at these words. She had never realized how worried Celestia would have been once she realized that Luna was gone. But still, it had taken four months for her to notice Luna's absence.

"I am sorry for making thou worry sister," said Luna calmly. "But that is all I am sorry for. Now I ask that thou never seek me out again."

Celestia stared at Luna for a moment. Had the solar princess heard right? Luna was leaving again and wished not to be found. Royal Decree heard this as well and began to listen a bit more closely.

"Sister, what does thou mean," asked Celestia. "We know things aren't going well for thou now, but thou must have patience. We are meant to rule together and-" Celestia was cut off by Luna's laughter.

"Rule together! What a joke that is sister! Do I have the power to pass laws on my own? Nay, I must have your blessing while you need not mine to pass thy own laws. Does any pony appear in my court? Do I have the power to pick my own guards? Nay, we do not rule together. You rule while I sit pretty next to thee."

"And I am tired of it sister," continued Luna. "I am tired of living in a world where every pony loves thou and shuns me. Did thou think I would not find out that the common pony calls me Nightmare Moon? That I eat children if they wonder around in the dark? And do not lie to me and tell me that thou knows nothing of which I speak! How long has thou known?!"

"Years," said Celestia as she looked away.

"And thou says nothing," raged Luna. "Thou speaks of harmony and unity while letting the common pony made up these horrible stories about me. Never once has thou even tried to speak up against such stories! What kind of sister are thou?"

"Luna, if you would just let me explain," began Celestia only to be cut off by Luna.

"There is nothing to explain. Thou are simply two faced."

"No Luna, that's not true. I just-"

"Just what? Thou just wants all the love of Equestria for thyself. Admit it! You just can't stand to have any pony not love you. It's been that way thou's entire life!

"Tis a lie sister," growled Celestia as she herself felt anger.

"Oh? Pray tell then, which pony does not love thee?"

"Mother and Father loved you, not me!" shouted Celestia. A half second later, Celestia covered her mouth with her hooves. Luna stopped in mid rant, her jaw half open in confusion.

"Excuse me? Did I hear thou right?"

"Yes Luna, I always felt Mother and Father loved you more. They were always with you. Mother always took you to those nice dinner parties and Father trained you in combat at night. I always had to set a good example. I always had to be perfect. Whenever I messed up they would come down on me hard, raving about how I should know better since I'm the oldest. Can thou imagine how it was?"

To Celestia's great surprise, Luna began to laugh. The night princess was rolling on the floor, tears running down her face. This was not the reaction Celestia had expected. Finally, Luna calmed down.

"Oh how rich sister," said a slightly amused Luna. "Allow me to 'enlighten' thou as to how I spent my time with our dear parents. When Mother took me to those parties, I was always dressed up and forced to sit at the table while not uttering a word. I was just a doll to her! And Father, well it's true that he did train me every night. But he also made sure to remind me every night that I had failed him by being born a filly! No matter how skilled I became with the blade, it would never compare to the skill I would have had if I had been born a colt! And they both always kept me close by, never trusting me to do anything on my own. They gave thou their trust every single day to run a kingdom. That is how much they loved me dear sister!"

"L-Luna, I had no idea," said a shocked Celestia.

"No, you wouldn't," said Luna. "Thou and this kingdom see me the same way. Just like how the moon reflects the suns light upon our world, I exist only to reflect thou's greatness. Ponies here see me only as your little sister. Stars forbid they even remember my name. Well no more! I have finally found a stallion who loves me. And I wish to spend the rest of our days together."

"Sister, that is wonderful news," said Celestia with a smile. At least now they were on a happier topic. "Please, bring him to the palace and we shall-"

"No sister, we will not be living here," said Luna sternly. "I have every intention of living with him at his farm. Living a simple, but good life. I wish to bear his foals and watch them grow up with him. But to do that, I will need to become a true earth pony!"

Both Celestia and Royal Decree felt their jaws hit the floor. They both stared at Luna, hoping that this was some kind of joke. But she did not laugh. She looked dead serious.

"But sister, why would thou throw away immortality?"

"If I bare him children as I am, there is a fifty percent chance that they won't be alicorn's. I will watch they grow old, die, and eventual bury them. No mother should ever have to do so." Luna closed her eyes for a second and took a deep breath. "For the last four months, I have lived as an earth pony with Peach Grove, my beloved. I have used my magic only to move the moon. In doing so I have found joy. In that small farming community I have found a place where I am excepted. Where I am loved. I wish to live the rest of my life as such. Sister, thou should be glad for now thou shall rule the kingdom without worrying about me any longer."

"L-Luna," stammered Celestia as tears formed in her eyes. "Please don't do this. Without you I-I'll be all alone. Immortally is only bearable because I have thou."

"My mind has been made up sister. I will live for the sake of my own happiness, not yours. Now, if thou will excuse me, I must gather the books I need to research a way into making me mortal as well as gathering the bits needed to repair the damages caused by your soldiers."

With that, Luna turned to leave. Following her was Celestia as she did her best to change the mind of her younger sister. As the two alicorns left, Royal Decree was left to ponder the impactions of what Luna was doing. He was fine with letting her leave since in his mind she was just the back-up princess should anything happen to Celestia and nothing more. However, if Luna did turn into an earth pony and something did happen to Celestia, than that would mean that one of Luna's decedents would take the thrown. Meaning that the new ruler of Equestria would be an EARTH PONY!

"That simply will not do," said Royal Decree to himself. There was a reason the noble class was made of unicorns. Never would they bow to some farmer earth pony!

With a sigh, Royal Decree sent out a message to do what they must.

It was the next evening as Luna flew over the land. Her heart was still heavy from how she had left things with Celestia. Her older sister had broken down, begging Luna not to leave. But this was the way it had to be. Luna was going to be happy with her beloved and live a good and simple life. She knew there would be hard times, that they might not have the story book ending that she had read about in books, but that was simply the way of life.

However, her mind did wander to Celestia's suggestion that they try and turn Peach Grove into an alicorn. Then they could live together forever. However, Luna refused such an idea to linger any longer. Immortality was hard enough for somepony like her handle. She could not force the stallion she loved to walk down such a path as he watched all of his friends and family die around him. No, that would be cruel and selfish of her.

As she neared the farm house, she noticed something strange. There was a red line in the snow leading out to the fields. She strained her eyes for a moment, searching for the cause until she spotted it. To her horror she saw it lead to Peach Grove. In an instant she was beside him.

To her horror, she saw that her beloved looked beaten. His limps were clearly broken in several spots, there was a deep gash over his left eye, and bruises covered his body. But what caused Luna's blood to turn cold was the dagger in his chest that held the royal seal on it. She quickly grabbed the dagger with her teeth and pulled it out. Her muzzle became bloody, but she didn't care.

"L-Luna," he whispered.

"Shh, beloved," said Luna as she began to use her magic to true and heal him. "Please don't talk. Thou must save thy energy." Luna, sensing the amount of internal damage, began to pour more of her magic into him. But the damage had gone untreated for too long and there was so much. Also, she was no doctor. She knew the basics of healing magic but that was it. But if these wounds weren't treated right away he would die. "No, thou shall not take him from me! I just found him! We barely had any time together!"

"L-Luna," whispered Peach Grove again as he looked up at her bloody face. The light was beginning to fade but he could still see the tears running down her face. He gave her a smile. "S-Second jar to the right and straight on till the back." And with that, he closed his eyes and his breathing stopped.

"NO!" roared Luna who refused to accept what was happening before her eyes. "Don't thou dare close thy eyes!" Fear and panic began to take hold in Luna. Not knowing what else to do she grabbed him with her magic and flew off towards the town.

Seconds later she landed right in the middle of the farmers market. The sun was about to set soon and ponies were still in the area. They were about to close up and get ready for another cold night when Luna appeared in her alicorn form with the bloody corpse of Peach Grove.

"Please!" yelled Luna. "Somepony help us! Peach Grove has been hurt!"

Luna waited for something to happen. Each of her heart beats seemed to take an eternity. Surely somepony would help them. They had to. Soon the ponies began to speak.

"It's Nightmare Moon and she's killed Peach Grove! Just look at the blood on her face!"

"She looks like Luna! Does this mean that Luna is Nightmare Moon?!"

"She tricked us! She tricked us!"

Soon, Luna was being pelted my snow balls and stones. Finding no help here, she once again grabbed the body of her one true love and flew into the night. As she did, the night was full of her cries of anguish.

An hour later, Luna stood over the grave of Peach Grove. She had wanted to do it without magic, like he would have wanted, but the ground was simply too hard. Magic was the only way she could have done this without waiting till spring. She had nothing to make a grave marker for him nor flowers to put on his grave.

Slowly, Luna walked back towards the home she had shared with Peach Grove. As she did, his last words played in her mind. She had hoped it would have been something more like 'I love you'. Heck, she would have been fine with a simple goodbye.

As soon as Luna got into the house, she made a beeline for the kitchen. Once in there she checked every cabinet that had jars in it. Luckily for her there were only three. With the first one she did as Peach Grove had told her and found nothing. The second one, however, she found a small hole in the back. Seeing that there was something in the hole, Luna used her magic to pull it out. It was a small black box that could easily fit in one of her hooves. Taking a deep breath, she opened the box.

Inside was a simple copper ring. There wasn't a single gem on it and Luna could see a few dents in it. Rings at this point weren't used all that often by the lower classes and cost a small fortune. Peach Grove most likely had gone to a blacksmith or something like that and commissioned this single piece. If it had been given to one of the royals they would have thrown it away in a heartbeat. But Luna looked at it with tears in her eyes before brining it close to her heart. Now she understood his last words.

The moment was ruined however by the noises outside. Looking out the window, Luna could see the towns ponies. They carried torches, pitch forks, and anything that could be used as a weapon.

"Burn the place to the ground!"

"Peach Grove brought Nightmare Moon to our home!"

"We have to protect Celestia from her evil!"

"For Princess Celestia!"

A moment later the window shattered and torches were being thrown in. Luna looked over at the door and saw that they were trying to break it down. Slowly Luna looked around at the place that had been her home. The table where she had eaten her meals. The counter where she had attempted to cook. The desk that had been made for her. The bed they had shared. So many memories that brought warmth to her heart were now being destroyed by the fire. So with another cry of anguish, Luna teleported away.

The sun should have been up as Luna entered Celestia's court. Keeping her eyes on Celestia, Luna walked past all the nobles who sat in their fancy (and expensive) seats along the great hall. The nobles began to whisper to themselves about Luna's filthy appearance. She was covered in soot and her mane was unkempt. Around her neck was a silver necklace made out of her own magic. And on that necklace was a copper ring.

"Sister," began Luna. "A murder had occurred last night by one of thy soldiers."

"We know," said Celestia calmly. "After thou announced thy desire to leave us for a common, Royal Decree ordered an investigation and discovered a plot most vile. It seemed that this Peach Grove's only desire was to wed thee in order to become a prince. Luna, he was lying to you."

"No," said Luna quietly.

"Yes," said Royal Decree. "And as pure the laws of the land, he was eliminated. A just fate for such low born scum such as him."

Luna sat there taking in what they were telling her. It was impossible! She just couldn't believe it! Peach Grove, the only stallion to ever say to her 'I love you' had been lying?! But she knew her sister wouldn't lie to her. Not about something like this! She began to feel the strength leave her legs.

"Luna," said Celestia gently. "Please lower the moon and get some rest. We shall talk later."

"Yes," agreed Royal Decree. "Please leave us. You have embarrassed the court enough for one day." Celestia gave her adviser a stern look.

"That is uncalled for," she said.

"We disagree," said a random noble. "Your sister has made fools of this court time after time. Bad enough that she would degrade herself with an earth pony, but actually believe that one could love her!"

"That's right," said another before Celestia could say anything. "We have kept silent all this time due to our respect for you, my Princess, but this has crossed the line. We demand that she leaves these halls at once till her own empty court opens."

Soon all the nobles began to voice their opinions about why Luna was unneeded and unwanted. The called her a slut. They claimed she had made Celestia look like a fool. Luna cringed as their voices became louder and louder. The night princess began to look towards her sister for help but caught a grin on the muzzle of Royal Decree. At that moment she knew he was lying. She had no proof nor did she know why, but she just knew had was lying.

Seething in rage, Luna looked around at the nobles. It was like she was looking at them for the first time. A group of self centered fools who thought themselves superior to all except Celestia. They were the ones who had caused all of her problems. They were the ones who kept her from helping Celestia. They were the ones who were driving a wedge between the sisters. In fact, now that she thought about it, so was every pony on this planet.

Luna began to laugh loudly, silencing the nobles. Celestia watched in horror as she felt a change in her sister. Then the laughing stopped just as quickly as it started and Luna stared right into her sisters eyes. Celestia couldn't help but gasp as she saw that Luna's eyes were now slit.

"Sister, I refuse to lower the moon," declared Luna. "In fact, it shall remain were it is for all time."

"You can't do that," said Royal Decree. "Now lower the moon as Princess Celestia-" He got no further as he was shot by a blast of dark energy. Celestia watched in horror as he hit the wall and laid there unmoving. When she turned her gaze back at her sister she saw that Luna's fur had turned black and her mane had taken on the appearance of the night sky.

"Sister, please calm down and think," said Celestia as she stood. "If thou makes night eternal than this world will grow cold and all life will eventually die."

"That is the point," laughed Luna as her magic flared. She pulled off the armor from one of Celestia's guards and magically reforged it to fit her. "I no longer care for the ponies that have for so long shunned me. My heart has been broken too many times for there to ever be forgiveness. Let them all die in the night that they so despise. Let it be just you and me dear sister for all eternity."

And with that, the pony that had once been Luna laughed as she vanished from sight.

*One week later*

Celestia sighed as she looked over the casualties reports. Luna, or Nightmare Moon as she was now publically called, had been sealed in the moon just the other day by the Elements of Harmony. It had been a difficult battle and the choice that Celestia had made had been equally difficult. Perhaps a thousand years would help cool her head.

Still, Celestia wondered if she could have done anything to prevent this. Could there have been a sign that she had missed? Something that she had done wrong?

"Excuse me Princess," said Regal Script, Royal Decree's replacement while he was in the hospital. "But I just noticed that there is a page under your thrown." He then used his magic to grab the paper and give it to his princess.

Celestia took hold of it and realized right away that it was one of the papers she had found in Luna's room. One of the ones that Luna wanted her to go over but never read. At first, Celestia was going to tuck it away for later but stopped herself. Taking a breath, the solar princess began to read the last document Luna had made.

It was impressive to save the least. This one page contained several benefits of having a Winter Moon's Festival. It talked about increasing the amount of trading down between the kingdoms and possible increase in tourism that would only serve to help their country. But the main point was an increase in morality. Luna stated that there should be more celebrations during the winter season because that was when ponies were more depressed. Winters were harsh and anything to lift their spirits would be seen as a blessing.

"Oh Luna," whispered Celestia as a tear fell down her face. "What have I done?"

*One thousand years later*

"NOOOOO!" screamed Nightmare Moon as the Elements of Harmony descended upon her. She had been so close to winning, so sure that there was no way she could lose. She had taken care of Celestia and thought that she had destroyed the Elements. But she had been wrong and was now paying the price. Now she would be sent back to the moon for another thousand years!

Suddenly time began to slow down. Nightmare Moon found herself unable to move from that spot, but she could look around. Was this some kind of weird time magic? Or perhaps this was some kind of torture the purple unicorn had thought up as punishment for banishing Celestia. Nightmare Moon glared at the rainbow that was inching closer to her, trying to will it to hurry up. But then, she saw a figure in the rainbow.

"Hello Luna," said Peach Grove. Nightmare Moon could not help but gasp. He was just as she remembered him when they first meet. But the look on his face seemed so sad.

"B-Beloved," stammered Nightmare Moon. "T-Thou has returned?" Grove sadly shook his head.

"No," he said. "There is no magic that can truly bring the dead back to life. Not even the Elements of Harmony can do that. They are only allowing you to speak with me. I...I can barely bring myself to tell you had saddened I am to see you go so wrong."

"What does thou mean? They killed you! They took away our future! They all deserve to die!"

"Do they really Luna?" asked Peach Grove. "Do you remember those nights we spent together? The times when we would just sit on the grass, gazing at the stars? The times we would walk into the town to sell the fruits of our labors? The ponies we meet on the streets who you would laugh with? I can still see the look in your eyes as you did all this. You loved them almost as much as you loved me."

"They called me a monster and refused to even help!" raged Nightmare as tears fell down her face. As they did, she decreased in size and her mane began to turn blue. "They burned our home!"

"They were scared," said Peach calmly. "They acted out of fear."

Now Nightmare Moon was the size of a filly. Her coat had returned to its normal color. The armor she wore had fallen off and laid around her. But her eyes were still serpent like.

"I don't want to go back," she said.

"To the moon?"

"No, back to the way I was. I'll be alone again. I was alone on the moon, but if I go back then I'll be alone within a crowd. I'll watch ponies fall in love and be forced to remember what was taken from us." Slowly Luna reached down with her hoof to touch the ring that was still around her neck. "I don't think I can do that alone."

"But Luna, you won't be alone," said Peach Grove with a smile. "I have never once left your side. And I never will. And Celestia will be there as well."

"But what if she doesn't forgive me?"

"She will because she loves you just as much as I do," said Peach Grove. Now the rainbow of magic was almost touching Luna. Their time was almost gone. "Please Luna, live in this world again. Make peace with your sister and learn to love again. Do this for me my love."

Luna looked at Peach Grove with her own eyes and nodded, unable to say a word as the love of her life vanished before her. Once he was gone, time returned to normal speed and the rainbow of magic passed through her harmlessly.

X End Flashback X

Twilight sniffed as Luna's story came to a close. She had never heard the story of Nightmare Moon told like that before. The original story now seemed too simple and clear cut.

"I'm so sorry," whisper Twilight.

"It's not your fault," said Luna with a smile. "But thank you anyways. And thanks for listening."

"But what about Peach Grove? Did you ever clear his name?"

"I didn't need to," replied Luna with a smile. "After Celestia read my document, she decided to check the 'proof' that Royal Decree had given her. Once she found out it was all fake she charged him with conspiracy and for helping create Nightmare Moon." Luna paused for a moment as she took a sip of her tea. "Now I have a question for you. Why do you have a copy of this book?"

Twilight felt her face go red as she looked at the Pony Sutra.

"Well...ah...you see..."

"Never mind, let me guess," interrupted Luna in an amused tone. "Is it because you have recently become sexually active and wanted to improve?" Twilight felt her jaw drop but nodded just the same. "Does that mean you have a special somepony?"

"I-I think so," stammered Twilight. "I mean, I really like him. But I don't know if I love him. I mean, how can you tell?"

"That, Twilight, is something you must figure out for yourself," said Luna. "Love is a very tricky thing. It varies from pony to pony. If you asked Celestia what love is then she'll give you a different answer than what I would most likely give you."

"Oh," said Twilight as she looked down.

"I'm sorry Twilight, but that's just the way love is. It is truly a wonderful thing that can bring great joy. But it can also bring great sadness." Luna paused for a moment. "Now then, tell me about this special pony of yours and what you were thinking about trying out."

Author's Note

Well, this part is finally done. Sorry if parts feel a little rushed, I'm not used to writing things like this. I mean, my ussual stuff is basically five pages or so and most of it is sex!

I wrote this part of the story for two reasons. The first is because I think this is how it should have happened. I mean, I can see Celestia doing shit like not correcting her subjects about Nightmare Moon. Hell, she allowed them to have a celebration called Nightmare Night where fillies and colts gave up their candy so they woudn't get eaten. Celestia can be a bitch!
The other reason is that I want to try writing non-clop. Or at least stuff with less clop. There is an idea I have been meaning to write down for a while, but I don't think I have it in me. It's sort of a MLP meets L&O: SVU. Also having a human turning into a bat pony. Has that been done before? Anyways, please tell me what you think!
