Applejack is dead. She sacrificed herself so that Twilight Sparkle could live. Of course Rainbow Dash is devastated. She was closest to Applejack. Then, through Twilight's comforting words, Dash finds a home she never expected.

The two ponies cowered before the mist, shivering in the cold and the rain that stung their faces.

"Twilight, y'all know there is only one way to get rid of this thing."

The orange pony bowed her head.

Her eyes were wet.

"Applejack...no."

"And....and ah... ah think mah friends deserve a life. Not just...."

"Applejack...don't do this."

"This is the moment to fight."

"Applejack, no! No!"

A horrifying roar echoed from the mist.

"This is all it wants."

"Please don't do this."

"Twi....please. This is all ah can do. If ah do this, the war is won."

"But...but Applejack...there must be some other way..."

"There is no other way.

She gave the hat on her head to the lavender pony.

"Take this...an' give it to Applebloom when the time comes...it was mah gran'sire's."

The lavender pony was crying. "Applejack, please..."

"No. This worked before.... Y'all....y'all take care of yah self now..."

The lavender pony put on the hat she had been given.

Applejack stood. "Bye, Twilight."

She galloped into the mist.

"APPLEJACK!"
