He will be remembered as an evil, tyrant unicorn with a dark heart, who enslaved an entire kingdom, and brought fear into all. A monster to many for his actions. But do they know of his past? Do they know the reason for him turning evil?  This is the story of the events that lead up to King Sombra's icy imprisonment and of what happened to him after the return of the Crystal Heart. This is...The Untold Story. Before he was a king, he was a prince. Prince Sombra. He was the next in line to rule the Crystal Empire. Sombra was sent to learn under Princess Celestia and Princess Luna about magic and how to rule with just and kindness. It turned out that he was a talented unicorn. Many viewed him as a prodigy in magic, that is, on one fateful day, he stumbled upon the dark arts. That day would be the turning-point in his life forever. He was consumed by their evil power, unable to control it. He was slowly loosing his mind and morals. They were being replaced by hatered and darkness. He transformed into the villainous overlord, returned to the Crystal Empire, and took over, enslaving all of the crystal ponies into his slaves. The princess, after hearing word of what is taking place, arrive to confront the self-crownd King Sombra. At this point, he was a slave to the dark arts, as evidenced by his permanently green eyes, but his soul could still be saved. King Sombra was against Princess Celestia and Princess Luna; His former teachers now against him. Sombra fired dark magic at Celestia, hoping to end it in one shot. Luna got in the way to protect her sister and was hit with dark magic. Although no visible effects took place, the magic she absorbed laid dormant inside her. Celestia and Luna used their magic to destroy the body of King Sombra and trap the conciseness in utter darkness. Before he dissapeared, he placed a curse on the Empire, having it disappear and to have it reappear only when he is able to return and to erase all of the memories that it held up to him ruling. The actions that King Sombra did that day did not go unnoticed. Months later, Luna was slowly changing. The dark magic in her growing, feeding off of her jealousy of her sister and of the appreciation she got for the sunlight she bring and of no pony appreciating the beautiful night that Luna made. The dark magic grew inside her until it created Nightmare Moon. Celestia had no choice but to use the Elements of Harmony on Nightmare Moon, her own sister, and send her to the moon. Because of the dark arts and the actions of King Sombra, Celestia has lost both a pupil and her sister to it's evil. She knew what had to be done; She had to control the dark magic. Fortunately, she was strong enough to control it and not let it take over. She was not to make the same mistake that the previous two made. Little did Celestia know that in doing away with the body and leaving the corrupted conciseness entrapped in darkness for a millennium, Sombra degraded into a formless, truly mindless beast. His only drive now was his greed for power. In this state, he is unable to form full sentences. He was no longer a unicorn but was the darkness that took over. He was a black mist that surrounded the area around him. This was the form the dark magic took. There is only a desire to take back what some part of him knows what was once his. It was this desire that fed the darkness even more until he was able to free himself, thus bringing back what was his, the Crystal Empire.   He approached the empire, only to be stopped by a barrier. There was a new ruler of the Crystal Empire, Princess Cadence. She prevented him from taking back what was his. He attacked the barrier for days, weakening it and preventing Cadence to rest. This went on for days. It then came to a point where the barrier broke and he was able to return. The crystal ponies see what is happening and the memories of the tyrant return, making the crystal ponies run in fear, knowing what will happen. The moment he returned, memories surged from the depths of the abyss that was once his brilliant mind. Getting closer to the Crystal Heart returned more memories and gave him his body back. This genuinely surprises him as more memories rush in. His permanent green eyes revert back to their original red, showing that the dark magic no longer holds him completely. He is able to grasp the situation and realizes that if the crystal heart were to be activated, it would destroy the darkness that was his essence and thus would be his ultimate undoing. He can't let it end like this, not now, not when he had finally regained his sanity. But he was too late. It happens. Just moments after returning to his original form, finally free from the evil magic that had bounded him for more than a millennium, a thousand years lost in the darkness, he is faced with the overwhelming power of the Empire's collective magic of love. He does not scream, he does not laugh evilly or curse his enemies, he is simply dumbstruck knowing that now that he is finally free - free to be a pony once more - he has to meet his demise. As the waves of magical force ruptures his body, he lets out a final roar. Not a roar of anger, but one of inconceivable pain, in both body and mind. A single tear rolls down his face. The ponies celebrate their victory; Unknown to them of what they have just done. They do not care. They do not know. Nobody will ever know...
