A new Beginning, Birth of a Duo
A new Beginning
Birth of a Duo
I came from Canterlot, I had never really liked it there, and it wasn’t quite my cup of tea. I had never bothered making friends I always stayed away from other ponies and wrote stories on whatever I could come up with.
I had decided that I shall leave Canterlot and go somewhere else. No need staying in a place where none of your stories receive any credit even after getting published. I took with me all the supplies that I needed, leaving behind nothing of importance. I got a ticket for the train from Canterlot to Ponyville.
“Though it may not be too far it should be far different.” I said to myself followed by a sigh. I walked onto the train, and whilst going to my seat I accidentally bumped into another pony. Falling back, some of my papers fell out of my bag, I picked myself up off the ground “I am so sorry.” I sputtered about. She was a unicorn; Grey with a red mane. Her tail was also red, with streaks of teal. I looked around for the papers that fell out and at that moment i had realized she had already picked them up with her magic and started reading them.
“So, you’re a writer?” Her voice sounded very beautiful, nice and soft. I was startled by the sheer beauty of her voice.
“Yeah I- I am, or at least I really want to be one. But for now I’m stuck writing my own stories that no pony would pay one bit for.” I had said blandly.
“Would you mind if I read this one?” she said with joy in her voice and a smile on her face.
“Uh no- no not at all. My name is Night Writer, and wha...what would yours be?”
“I’m Alice.” She turned away shyly, continuing to smile even though we were meeting each other for the first time. It was certainly amazing knowing that somepony could hold a smile that long.
“So, since you’re going to Ponyville as well why not sit with me?” I had never met a pony who had been so happy even when they just met somepony they didn't know. Everything was always just a rush down in Canterlot, they would rarely stop to talk to you, especially if you were an earth pony; like I.
“Um, sure why not.” I said as I followed her to her seat. I sat across from her. “So why are you leaving Canterlot Alice?” I asked this out of much curiosity.
“Well, Night Writer I tend to take care of plants, I had originally been helping out in the royal garden. But it seems my services are no longer needed there so I decided why not leave.” Her smile had finally faded. I guess not everypony can keep a smile up forever.
“Well I assume we’ll be on this train for a while so since you wanted to read my story so bad I will let you.” I told her blandly. Quietly she lifted the papers up using her magic flipping the page every so often. After quite some time we had arrived in Ponyville. We both got off the train, Alice still quiet with the story in front of her face. “Look you don’t need to finish it right now; you can take your time Alice, I am in no rush, besides... that story was rejected.” I said emotionless looking at her.
“It’s not that I want to finish it now, it’s just that I’m shocked your stories aren’t more popular, and now I’m shocked at the fact they rejected this story.” She said memorizing her page and putting it into her own bag.
“I’ll bring this back to you when I’m done, but you really should write more often, and especially if it’s anything like this.”
“Alright then I’ll listen to your suggestion. Oh right one more thing you have place to stay right?”
“Yeah I do why?” She asked this very uncertain of why I would even bring it up.
“Well. It’s just that I got caught up in leaving as quickly as I could that I didn’t look for a place to stay, And I was hoping that maybe since we became friends on the way here and that we both want to just go around equestrian that--” Alice had cut me off.
“-That you need a place to stay? No problem, one of my old friends said I could use her house since she owes me, and besides there’s more than one room and she doesn’t come here often anyway. Just follow me, it’s near the library.” Alice said as she started walking off. I sighed and followed her to the building. “Well Night Writer here’s a new beginning. For both of us.”
“Well Night Writer, here’s a new beginning; For both of us.” She said opening the door to the house. The lights bursted on, and everypony was inside shouting “Welcome!” at the two of us. This caused me to move back slightly and get a weird look on my face.
“were you surprised, Well were ya!?” In a matter of seconds there was a pink pony in front of me and Alice with ecstatic energy.
“Was this your doing miss umm?”
“My name’s Pinkie Pie, and yes it was! What are your names?” I was quite shocked that this pony had so much energy, it honestly just made me wonder how she grew up.
“My name is Night Writer, and this is Alice.” I had started to grin slightly at the fact that everypony in ponyville showed up to welcome us.
“Nice to meet you Pinkie Pie.” Said Alice as we entered the house. I looked around and saw a pony chugging the punch, a few ponies dancing and others just talking to each other
“Can’t say it wasn’t kind to throw a party for both of us, but I don’t see how it couldn’t wait till morning.” I said looking towards Alice to notice she had already went off to mingle herself. I’m guessing she likes meeting new ponies. me on the other hand had always stayed away from other ponies, they wound up interfering with stuff sooner or later. I didn’t really talk to anypony just said hi to a few as I walked to the stairs to find a room. “I don’t think it’d really matter which room I take, but I’ll just take the one in the back.” I said to myself looking at the door near the front of the hallway and then the one in the back. I walked down the hall and opened the door to the room in the back. It was just a normal room that featured a bed, a dresser and a desk. I took off the saddlebags on my back and dropped them to the ground. I opened the bag on the left and took out a pencil and a piece of paper. I placed them on the desk and began to write a little letter.
Hay Mother and Father,
It’s me your son, I wanted to let you know that it’s been a pretty weird day today. I got on the train to ponyville and I certainly hope you don’t fret my leaving too much. I had met a mare today, actually make that two. I met one on a train her name is Alice, honestly she is one of the nicest people I ever met, it made it pretty hard believing she even grew up in Canterlot.
Anyway I’m staying in a house with her here for a while and You’ll probably find this really interesting, on our way to the house there was a frantic pink pony running around town, and it turns out she was gathering supplies for our welcoming party which is happening right now! I’m certainly happy at this point in my life guys, and I hope to come back and see you at some point.
- Your son Night Writer
I had set down the pencil and figured to put the letter in an envelope immediately so I went back over to my bag and opened the right pouch which was filled with envelopes and stamps. I took a envelope and a stamp and walked over to the letter.
“Night Writer why aren’t you down here enjoying the party? you’re missing the fun, Berry Punch just got wasted and it’s quite a show!”
all I could do is laugh at the fact. “I’ll be down in a moment, just gotta do something really quick.” I said licking the envelope shut and putting a stamp on it.
“Hurry up, now she’s trying to kiss Colgate!” Alice shouted from down the hall.
“I’m coming!” I shouted as I left the room and walked down the stairs with Alice to enjoy the rest of the party.
