//-------------------------------------------------------// Serose, Eater of Souls -by TheFlyingWelshman- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// An Awkward Awakening //-------------------------------------------------------// An Awkward Awakening Today was not Spike’s day. It had started off average enough— he got up early to make Twilight breakfast, made sure the library was in order, and dusted off the shelves; however, his day began to quickly worsen when Twilight decided to send spike down to the cellar to clean up. In a normal house this wouldn’t have been an enormous trouble; unfortunately not many houses were made from the trunk of a tree. This provided for some… complications, one of which being the abundance of creepy crawlies wading through the filth. Such were the duties of one who would eventually become a great dragon, the most glorious of all creatures, but for now, killing the occasional spider was the closest that he was going to get to glorious conquest. Spike soon became gradually disinterested in his job, until a particular tomb caught his eye. It had a jet black cover with a simple X drawn on the front in red ink. He decided to examine the cover more closely and brought it closer to his face. Strange, there is no title or author for this book, he thought. Spike decided to open it up and see if any clues lay inside of it; he didn’t realize how big of a mistake he had just made. Spike gasped as the tomb exploded with shadows which soon began to envelop him—his heart raced faster as he felt another consciousness entering his own. Thoughts began to enter his head that were not his. They came in the form of a deep ominous voice. Hello there little one. I will be taking over now. No! Get out now you’re not welcome in here. Oh I don’t think you really have a choice in the matter. You see this isn’t my first possession, so you may as well give in now; make it easier on yourself. Spike felt his willpower weakening as he faded out of consciousness. A deep voice arose from Spike’s mouth “Finally I am rid of that pesky child, now nothing will stand in the way of my complete and total overthrow of Celestia, For I Am SEROSE!” Serose climbed back up the stairs to begin his conquest that would surely be quick and effortless. Once he reached the stairs he ran into a slight problem. “Why are these stairs so large? Have the equestrians grown since I was last released?” It was no matter he would conquer them regardless, how could they hope to stand against the might of SEROSE!  He pushed his way through a seemingly enormous door just to see a giant purple mare staring at him. She seemed to have a mixed expression of confusion and worry. She was the first to speak. “Umm Spike, were you the one shouting down there?” “Silence! You will not speak unless spoken to, for I am the great Serose and will be addressed as such.” To Serose’s joy she remained silent for a few seconds; he assumed it was due to her raw fear of being in the presence of such an infamous being.  “Sure… Spike you do know that Rarity won’t fall for that kind of approach.” Twilight seemed completely indifferent to the change in Spike’s voice... and personality. This only angered him even more. “You insolent fool; I am the most infamous demon to have ever walked the planes of Equestria.  I have transcended centuries possessing thousands of beings. Ponies tremble with fear at the very mention of my name!” Twilight only sighed and rolled her eyes at the baby dragons’ tirade. “Well then oh great ‘Serose’ you can prove your immense power by finishing your chores.” Twilight levitated a mop into his claw “Now, there is a spill in the kitchen that is not going to clean itself up.” Twilight cantered off, leaving Serose at a loss for words—he only realized what had happened after she was already well beyond earshot. “You shall pay you insolent pony. They shall speak in hushed tones of the horrors that I will inflict upon thee!” As soon as he finished his last rant there was a timid knock at the door. After a few moments an intruding southern voice came from the other side of the door. “Um… Twilight, ya there? It’s Apple Jack.  You told me yesterday that you wanted my help with something.” Not long after the mare finished her sentence, Serose flung the door open, inquiring why the mare was waiting outside the door. “Who are you, and why have you come here?” “Umm, Spike, it’s me Apple Jack—but we have known each other for a long time.” “I believe that was but the soul who had previously inhabited this body. I am called Serose, eater of souls.” “Right… Twilight! Spike is acting weird I think there is something wrong with-” Twilight came into the room. “Spike I told you to cut it out. Don’t worry, I’m sure it’s just one of his crazy schemes to win Rarity over; although, this one is a quite a bit more odd than the previous schemes.” Apple Jack seemed a bit apprehensive to accept this. “I don’t know Twilight…Have you noticed how low his voice is? Anyhow why did you ask me to come here anyway?” “Right, don’t you have a little sister Apple Jack, Apple something or other, am I correct?” “Yes I do, her name is Apple Bloom, the one you have met on multiple occasions.” “Please Apple Jack, I can’t be bothered to keep up with all of your Apple pony nonsense.” This angered Apple Jack but she held her tongue “So why did you need to know if I had a sister.” “Well, I’ve been having problems with Spike; he doesn’t follow all of my commands unquestioningly. How do you get whatsherface to do it?” “I don’t, she’s my sister. I don’t command her to do anything.” “But then how do you get things done as efficiently as possible?” Serose was infuriated by the entire conversation. They were acting as if he, Serose devourer of souls, wasn’t even in the room. For a moment he felt pity for this Spike, if they had treated him this poorly: but only for a moment. His temper soon exploded, as he prepared to unleash his true potential. His eyes began to glow bright white and he began to rise from the floor. “Horrid ponies, now you will feel my true power.” Apple Jack seemed more than afraid now, quickly backing away from the levitating dragon. Twilight, however, seemed a bit less taken aback by this, as she walked right up to him and dropped an enormous scroll in his arms. “Ok, when you done with all of that—could you please look over that list? I need all of those items by tomorrow so you should start soon.” Apple Jack and Serose just stared at her dumbfounded. “Twilight his eyes were glowing and he was levitating!” “Listen you two; I don’t have time for this so why don’t you just work it out among yourselves?” She sauntered off leaving them alone. Apple Jack and Serose just stared at the space where she had been. “So… you’ve been around for how long?” Serose turned to her. “I hate ponies.”
