Chapter one: Welcome to our home, Ramn.
A silent and bone chilling breeze flowed through the gaping holes in his legs, as a large stream of bright red blood flowed out of his fore head. It was a changeling, laying on the warm dirt floor, with his head resting on a loan tree stump deep in the forest, with a trail of destruction behind him, and a large crater surrounding him as if he just hit the floor like some meteorite. His eyes slowly began to open as they revealed to no longer be the bright sky blue of which they usually are; instead they were a bright and lively crimson like red with a dark red outline. His back was an even darker shade of red, and his wings were now a bright violet. He shook his head as he continued to regain consciousness; he then examined his surroundings in hopes that he will somehow discover what kind of situation he was in as he tried to recall all that had happened.
He slowly opened his mouth revealing that one of his fangs had a huge crack as half of the fang fell to the ground “oh man what the heck happened?” he muttered to himself, as he then attempted to push himself off the floor, but he seemed to struggle in his attempt to stand as his legs shook violently when even the slightest bit of pressure was placed on them. They couldn’t even hold up a weightless and meek feather let alone his enitre body. “what-where am I?” he asked as it seemed his mind was full of nothing but questions. But then the changeling remembered the past event, he remembered the battle, he remembered the blast that sent him soaring in the air, and that blazing pain in his eyes as the power of pure love seemed to overcome him, and yes he remembered crashing to the floor and losing consensus.
The changeling looked to his back and saw his beaten and mangled wings, “what the? Oh well this is…this is just fantastic” he said in a extremely sarcastic voice as he let out a small sigh, his left wing was torn, or more or less shredded, which was making it incredibly hard to fly let alone levitate at least an inch off the ground. He took a deep breath as he then slammed his hoofs to the ground and began to push with all his might, “yeah we changelings are the strongest army around, that’s why the thing we feed off of was our downfall, and just look at me, I’m beaten, torn apart and can’t even handle my own body weight” he complained with a furious gleam in his crimson as he then felt a shock wave of pain surge through his body, the changeling grunted as he wiped his head and looked to his hoof, he saw a pool of a bright and lifeless blood dripping down his hoof, he realized that he was going to die of blood loss soon, and it was coming quicker than he expected as his eyes grew heavier and heavier, "this is it, I'm going to die here arent I? I guess i should say some final word's, oh the great mare in the sky...buck you" he mutterd as he felt himself go limp before his eyes completely shut.
He saw nothing but Black an empty and lifeless black, an empty and cold blackness that seemed to spread into and endless void. But it wasn’t long until a slight and low light started to shine through this void; he was starting to regain consciousness. But all he could see was a blur, a bright purple blur that seemed to be speaking to him, it was a faint yet calming voice, he also noticed that he was on a cushion, an extremely comfortable cushion that seemed to be like a puffy cloud. the blur of the figure standing above him started to focus as it revealed to be a bright purple unicorn with dark purple eyes and a dark purple mane with some light purple strands . But she was doing something that the changeling wasn’t used to seeing, she was smiling, and it seemed that she was smiling at him.
The changeling just stared at her, it had been so long since he had seen a face that was even remotely friendly, and most of the smiles the changeling has ever seen were usually the smiles of pure evil. The changeling couldn’t help but smile a bit to. The unicorn then cleared her thought and began to speak “hello, my name is Twilight Sparkle; the personal student of princess Celestia" she greeted "I’m happy you’re ok, you see I found you passed out in the middle of the woods, luckily I got you here in a jiffy” she told the changeling as she then helped him off of the cushion, when the changeling picked up his head he saw nothing but books, stacks and shelves of books big and small, blue red and every other color you could think of.
The changeling looked around the library with some amazement in his eyes, being a changeling he never really saw any literature or anything that involved entertainment. He rubbed his head, but he then noticed a large bandage wrapped around his forehead, Twilight was just staring at him with a huge grin, which was making the changeling feel uncomfortable “um….can I help you?” he asked with a confused look on his face. Twilight then gasped and pulled out a wooden textured note book with a gold frame “oh, so you can talk, this will make a great fact in the book!” she said as she began to write in the note book.
The changeling just looked at her, “um…” he didn’t really know what to say, some pony accepts him into their home, isn’t hostile and even takes notes about him, it was a completely new experience for him. Once twilight was done taking her notes she looked up and saw his confused expression, “oh um, you probably want to know why you’re here, well its actually quite simple, please follow me” she told the changeling as she directed him to a gargantuan purple book placed in the middle of the library, in big gold letters it spelled out ‘CREATURES OF EQUESTRIA’ Twilight then opened the book and flipped through the many pages and eventually landed on a nearly blank page labeled ‘changeling's’ and that’s all that was written, no pictures, no details, just the name.
Twilight then sighed as she stared at the blank page “this book is supposed to have every single detail about every single creature, and it does...mostly, but you changelings are just…well you've just avoided us ponies, we know nothing about you heck i didnt even know you're species exhisted until the wedding, but I want to know about you changelings, how you live, how you eat, what you do!” she told him as she then slammed the book shut and pointed to him. “and now I have a real life changeling, so here’s the deal I’ll keep you hidden, give you food and shelter, and you give me information on the changeling history and culture” she told him as she then stuck out her hoof “do we have a deal?” she asked as the grin on her face grew into a full-fledged smile.
The changeling thought for a moment but ultimately knew that this was the best deal he could possibly acquire. So the changeling slowly nodded his head and began to shake her hoof “deal” he told her as they shook their hooves. Twilight couldn’t help but squeal with joy as she could now finally have knowledge about all the creatures ever recorded in Equestria, “oh but wait, what’s your name?” she asked the changeling. The changeling thought for a bit, he then realized he had no name, he was just a changeling solider and nothing else, “I…I don’t really have a name” he told her with an embarrassed look riddling his face.
Twilight slowly nodded “yes I expected as much, so i guess i'll just name you” she told him as she began to examine the changeling, “mph your posture is very animalistic, your back legs are very muscular meaning that you can run at expediential speeds, your horn is very strong and sharp, you actually remind me somewhat of a Capra hircus, or goat as they are formally known” she said as she then stepped in front of him. “And since you are a male, and somewhat resemble a goat, I shall call you…Ram cichlid” she told him with an optimistic grin. Then changeling wasn’t completely satisfied with the name, “um how about just Ram” he suggested, Twilight nodded “oh alright then, it's your name, but how about Ramn just to give it some originality?” she told him.
The changeling nodded vigorously “yeah Ramn, I like it, yeah I like it a lot!” he cheered as he couldn’t help but dance around. This wasn’t just some name; this was his name, defining who he was. He wasn’t just some changeling warrior, he was himself. “Oh thank you Twilight!” he shouted as he closed in and wrapped his hooves’ around her and gave her a huge hug. Twilight chuckled slightly and pushed him away “alright, alright save the hugs for later, if you’re going to be staying here you’re going to have to meet the gang” she told him as she then was about to open the front door of the library.
But Ramn quickly flew over and stopped her, “um you may not want to do that” he said with a nervous voice and scared expression. Twilight looked confused “but-but why, do you not trust them, I can assure you they are the greatest and most trusting of friends” she assured him. Ramn nodded “yes I’m sure their great, to you and other ponies” he told her as he then let out a small sigh “but, it’s just, well look at me! I’m a changeling, you know what we did, and I can’t hide, because for some reason, I can’t even change, and I don’t think I will be to…well accepted” he told her as he walked back to the couch.
Twilight nodded and let out a small disappointed sigh “oh well that’s a little disappointing but you’re not just a changeling anymore, I mean heck you have red eyes, but you have a point, but could you at least say hi to one of my best friends?” she asked with an enthusiastic smile. Ramn sighed “…okay maybe, but just one!” he said as he hoped back onto the red leather couch. Twilight smiled and ran up the stair’s shouting “SPIKE! SPIKE! I want to introduce you to a friend!”. Ramn was taken back a bit ‘friend…did she just call me her friend?’ he thought to himself, it was so new, she not only could stand him, but she could slightly enjoy his company.
Twilight walked back down the stairs along with a small baby dragon with purple scales and green spike’s “Twilight who are you introducing me to, I’ve already met every pony in Ponyville, who else is the-…” he then cut himself off as he saw Ramn sitting on the couch with a small nervous smile.
Spike quickly fell off of Twilight and fell to the ground as he had passed out from shock. Twilight gasped and ran over to Spike’s unconscious body “Spike! Oh please get up, please be okay!” she begged as she started to shake him. Ramn flew over to the unconscious baby dragon and picked him up by his feet causing him to hang upside down, “please Twilight allow me” he told her as he threw him at a wall causing him to make a loud slamming noise, Ramn then cleared his throat and shouted “WAKE UP!” He shouted before Twilight could stop his violent way of waking up the dragon, she pushed Ramn away and picked up Spike.
Twilight turned back to face Ramn “what in Celestia’s name do you think you’re doing!?!?” she yelled right as Spike started to regain consciousness. Ramn just gave a confused shrug “I’m sorry, that’s how we were woken up if we passed out during training” he told her with an innocent look on his face. Twilight looked over to him “ooh really?” she asked as she then dropped the slowly regaining consciousness baby dragon and grabbed her note book and began to write down the new information. Spike groaned and picked himself up off of the floor with a dazed look on his face “ah man, I had the weirdest dream that there was a red eyed changeling in the house” he said as his blurred and confused vision began to focus, but when he could finally see he was staring straight at the face of the red eyed changeling of which he thought was just an illusion "....oh".
Spike was about to pass out again, but before he fell to the floor, Ramn zipped over and quickly caught him “wow little buddy, we don’t want you passing out on us again” he told him as he helped Spike back to his feet. Spike just had a look of befuddlement “so you’re real? And I’m not crazy? And dude what is with your bandage on his head” he asked as he put his hand to his head in attempt to let reality catch up with him. Ramn thought for a moment “well yes to the first one and for the second question…well I don’t know yet…maybe yes, and after you fall to the floor after being launched like two miles or something in the air, you’re going to be pretty hurt” he told him with a relieved expression now that the baby dragon had calmed down.
Spike chuckled nervously as he backed up to Twilight “um Twilight, what’s going on?” he whispered to her as Twilight finished up her notes. Twilight looked down to Spike and patted his head “well Spike, this is Ramn and he will be staying with us for a while” she informed him. Spike gulped down a large wad of nervous spit after hearing the new information “but…how will our friends react?” he asked her, Twilight shrugged “I don’t know, and they won’t know he’s our little secret” she told him, Spike didn’t like the idea of keeping secrets, but he had done it before, and what would Rarity think if she found out that he lived with a changeling?
Ramn flew over to them and patted Spike on the head “I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship” he told them both, Twilight nodded while Spike just sighed “this won’t end well” he muttered. Twilight and Ramn both looked down to Spike “what was that?” they both asked at about the same time. Spike just chuckled “it’s...it’s nothing, welcome to our home Ramn” he told as he then yawned and started to walk up the stairs. Ramn gave a warm smile and yawned, “Oh man it’s been a long day, I’ve fallen from the sky, given a new home, and two new friends, I’m beat” he told as he laid his head on the cold wood floor.
Twilight then picked him up off of the floor and wiped some dust off him “oh no, you’re not sleeping on the floor mister, come on I got an extra bed upstairs you can sleep there. Twilight lead Ramn up the stairs and to a small mattress with bright white sheets and a baby blue comforter with a large cloud like pillow. Ramn yawned again and hoped on the bed and curled up in the comforter and became overcome with complete relaxation and exhaustion. It didn’t take long before Ramn was knocked out; he seemed to be sleeping like a baby. Twilight just chuckled and tucked him in “good night Ramn, I guess i should get some rest as well, we got a lot to do in the morning” she told him as she walked to her bed and pulled the sheets over herself and quickly fell into a silent and relaxing slumber.
