Chapter First, The beginning
A dark figure moved like a wraith through the Everfree. Not a whisper of noise was heard as the figure crossed the field between the trees and Ponyville. It snuffled and snorted as it stopped near a tree near the outskirts of the village. The figure stopped and hung it's head. Several drops of liquid hit the ground with wet splats as the figure wheezed and coughed. The black-cloaked pegasus pony collapsed as a light clicked on in the tree.

I opened my eyes and looked up at the ceiling.
Wasn’t I outside?
I groaned and looked around the room I was in. I noticed a large bookshelf and several over-sized cushions before a splitting headache nearly made my eyes cross. I put a hoof to my head and it bumped into something attached to my forehead.
What the buck- a horn?!
I spread my wings and winced as they stretched and popped.
Wait…. That makes me…..
My eyes widen as realization dawns on me
Oh…Shi-
My musings were interrupted by a knock at the door.
“C…come in…”
A purple pony stepped into the room, and I blinked in curiosity. She paused, and the unicorn returned the look from behind her purple and pink mane.
I held her gaze and felt heat suffuse my face as I blushed. She giggled and set about making what looks to be a large bandage. She walked to the bed.
“Hello, my name is Twilight Sparkle.”
I composed myself and remembered my manners “I’m Skia… not to sound rude, but where in Celestia am I, and what happened?”
“To answer your first question, you are in the Ponyville library. As to your second question, I was wondering that myself…”
“I don’t really know… its all hazy… the only thing I remember is pain…lots of pain…” I shuddered and my chest began to ache. Twilight reached down and pulled a large red stained bandage off of my chest with a soft ripping sound, and I mewl in pain softly. She looked up apologetically and she tossed it into a red bag marked with the biohazard symbol and the words Ponyville General Hospital on it.
“Well…. On the bright side, its going to be an interesting day…. It's not every day an alicorn appears on my doorstep in the wee hours of the morning half dead...”
“I’m not an ali-“pain erupted from my forehead and my eyes crossed as I groaned softly. Just as suddenly as it appears, I saw a slight purple haze and the pain receded. The next thing my brain registered was the concerned face of Twilight, hovering close to me. I grimaced and bit my lip.
“I wasn’t an alicorn…. At least I don’t think so…everything is fuzzy except for the past few minutes….”
I heard a loud belch from the next room, and Twilight hurriedly excused herself, saying something about an urgent correspondence.
Odd…..
Several minuets passed, and she finally entered again, looking utterly perplexed.
“Everything alright, Miss Sparkle?”
She looked at me and bit her lip.
“I’ve just received a letter from the princess…”
I blinked and stared blankly for a second or two.
Oh… princess Celestia… wait… how?
She continued “And according to Celestia, the only way for you to become an alicorn is by black magic, which is a capitol offence, punishable by death…”
