//-------------------------------------------------------// Thunder from the North -by Lunar Metal- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and all related characters belong to Hasbro. Thor and all related characters belong to Marvel Comics. It was a dark night as a thunderstorm raged. On a mountain top three griffons stood. One was old, and had but one eye. The other had red feathers, and his fur was yellow. Around his neck hung a large stone hammer on a chain. The third griffon was very lean and had green feathers and black fur. They were not normal griffons, they were older than most would expect. They were gods. The one with the hammer, was Thor the God of Thunder, the lean one was Loki the God of Mischief, and the oldest one was Odin the Allfather and king of Asgard. "You are a vain, cruel, greedy boy!" Odin roared. "And you are an old tiercel and a fool!" Yelled back Thor, son of Odin and heir to Asgard's throne. "Yes, I was a fool. I was a fool to think you were ready." Odin agreed, saddened that things had come to this. "Father..." Began Loki, second son of Odin, in defense of his brother only to be silenced as the one eyed griffon snapped at him. "Thor Odinson... You have betrayed the express command of your king." Odin began, his voice wavering. "Through your arrogance and stupidity, you have opened these peaceful realms and innocent lives to the horror of war!" Odin continued as he opened a portal with a wave of his paw and moved to Thor, glaring at his son as his anger took hold. "You are unworthy of this realm, unworthy of your title, you're unworthy!" Odin yelled as Thor backed up, getting closer and closer to the portal his father had opened. "I now take from you, your power!" Odin barked as the hammer around Thor's neck lifted up from him and flew to Odin's waiting paw. "In the name of my father and of his father before. I CAST YOU OUT" Odin roared as he let loose a blast of magical energy from his paw and pushed Thor through the portal. Odin then looked at the hammer in his claw. He held it close to his beak as he said in a hushed tone, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." It was nighttime in Canterlot as one Princess Luna walked through the grounds of the castle. She was looking for something interesting to do, being a bit of a night owl as was expected of a Princess of the Night, but for some reason she had not been able to find much to alleviate her boredom. However soon the sound of thunder began to erupt from the skies as dark clouds began to form and lightning filled the skies. "Odd, we were not aware there was to be a thunderstorm this night." Luna thought aloud as she witnessed the spectacle outside. A portal opened in the clouds and spat out Thor who fell to the ground, the impact harming the earth itself more than Thor, with a thud as the griffon got up. "Damn." Thor groaned in aggravation as he rose to his feet. Throwing his head up to the sky, the clouds quickly disappearing, Thor searched for constellations he recognized in an effort to learn which realm he was on. "Odin! Heimdall! I know thou can hear me! BRINGEST ME BACK TO HOME!" Thor shouted angrily at the sky. When nothing happened Thor shouted again and again. Suddenly he felt a presence behind him. The thunderer looked to see a dark blue alicorn with a starry mane and tail, looking at him curiously. "We must say, thou art the first one we hath heard to speak the way we do in the modern world." Luna said as she turned her head slightly to the side, trying to figure out why a griffon was in the middle of the palace grounds. Thor, letting go of his anger for the moment to introduce himself, replied, "Good evening to thee milady. I am Thor, God of Thunder, he who commands the thunder and the lightning." Luna laughed at the griffon's claim. She and Celestia had been called goddesses, but had never thought of themselves as such, so to hear this stranger claim to be a deity was most humorous to the Princess of the Night. "Thou darest to laugh at Thor?! I shall prove to thee my claim!" Thor proclaimed. He reached up to his neck to grab his hammer, but then remembered that his father had taken it. "And how dost thou intend to provide proof to thine claim?"  Luna asked, finding this griffon to be most entertaining.  Before anymore could be said, a portal formed in the night sky and released something that burned across the starry sky like a meteor. It crash landed near the Princess and the Asgardian. The two ran over to inspect the crash site and found a stone sledgehammer sitting in the middle of the crater. "Mjolnir?" Thor gasped before rushing down into the hole to retrieve his hammer. At this point Celestia arrived, having been awoken by the commotion. "What is going on here?" The Princess of the Sun asked in a tired voice, yawning slightly. "Oh just a lost griffon, claiming himself to be a god." Luna said as she watched said griffon try to lift the hammer from ground, but found doing so very difficult. After a good minute or so of trying, he fell to the ground, despair evident on his face. Luna flew down and eyed the hammer. It didn't seem to be that heavy, possibly weighing at least fifty pounds at the most and Thor was clearly a well muscled griffon. It didn't make sense to Luna, who tried to lift it with her magic, but try as she might failed to do so. Celestia walked down about to ask Thor what he was doing in her garden, but seeing Luna unable to lift a simple hammer had her curious. The Sun Princess tried to lift the hammer as well, but had the same luck as her sister.  The sisters looked to Thor, who was still staring at the hammer in front of him. Celestia cleared her throat and asked, "Who are you?" Thor didn't respond, he just looked at the hammer in front of him with what seemed to be a deep longing. This was not lost on Celestia who then said, "Is this hammer important? I sense a great magic emanating from it." At this the griffon replied, "It is Mjolnir." This wasn't very helpful as Celestia just decided to ask the most pressing question. "Why are you here?"  The white alicorn asked. Thor stayed silent for a good while, the Princesses allowing him time to get his thoughts together. "I am banished." He finally said. The Sisters of the Day and the Night shared a look before Luna asked, "From where were thou banished?" Thor's reply was one that shocked the sisters greatly. "Asgard." //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2 Thor stood in Celestia's throne room, as the princess decided what to do. Luna stood by her sister's side as Thor kept looking out the window toward the crater in the garden. No one had been able to lift the hammer that sat in that crater. Celestia had even ordered 20 of her guards to move it, but it would not budge even an inch. Celestia was no fool. She knew this hammer was of great importance and also knew that there was more to the griffon before her than what met the eye. After thinking about this long and hard, Celestia finally came to a decision that would hopefully solve this unusual problem. "Seeing as how you have committed no crime I will not imprison you." The white alicorn said, causing Thor to look over at her. "However I am afraid that since you seem to know much more about the hammer.... "Mjolnir." Thor said, emphasizing the word with a slight growl, cutting the Princess off. "Um, yes. Since you seem to know more about Mjolnir than we do and as it has proven to be a most curious object, I cannot let you leave the castle until you have answered my questions regarding both it and yourself." The Solar Princess finished as the Asgardian simply sighed. "What is it thou wish to know?" Thor queried. "Well, for starters, where are you really from? I know of Asgard, but I also know it is merely a mythical realm that the griffons of old believed in. As such I'm afraid I cannot take your word on that." Celestia said. "What I hath told thee is true. I am indeed from Asgard. I am Thor the God of Thunder, Son of Odin, and the mightiest warrior in all the nine realms!" Thor said confidently, his voice booming with pride. The Sisters of the Day and Night however were not convinced. "I'm afraid we simply can't accept that as an answer, so until you are ready to answer us truthfully you will not be allowed to leave the castle grounds." The white alicorn said as she then left Luna to show Thor to a spare room, then left to head back to bed. The Night Princess lead the Asgardian to a high tower, usually reserved for visiting griffon dignitaries. "We hope this shall be to thine liking." Luna said as Thor looked around. The Asgardian was stunned, having expected to be put into a dungeon or cell during his stay. "Thank thee, milady. I shall repay this kindness, so swears the Son of Odin!" Thor proclaimed, holding his head high. Luna was about to leave, when her curiosity got the better of her. "You hath mentioned this Odin before. Who is he?" Luna asked as Thor walked over to the balcony and looked up at the stars. The Asgardian sighed in a mixture of frustration and weariness. "Odin is the Allfather. It is through him that Asgard lives and he is its rightful king." Thor answered. Luna rolled her eyes, still not believing the griffon's claim of being from the mythical world. "We see. Well then, we shall leave thee to thine rest Thor." Luna said as she took her leave and closed the door with her magic. Thor walked over to the bed and laid down, the events of the past few hours having drained the god mentally. He was asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. Thor groaned as he awoke the sound of his door being knocked on. The room he had was spacious enough to be quite comfortable, though the different architecture made him yearn for his home even more. Dragging himself out of bed, he went over to the door, the pony behind it still knocking rather insistently. Thor opened the door, only to be knocked in the face with a hoof. The hit did little but shock the Asgardian, but the same could not be said for the one that struck him. "OW! What are you made of?!" The pony asked as he shook his hoof to ease the pain shooting through his hoof. Thor looked at the pony before him. It was a unicorn with a white coat and a blue mane and tail with the symbol of a shield emblazoned on his flank. "What is thine reason for awakening me mortal? It hath better be of grave importance for thine own sake." Thor said, very much annoyed. "Princesses Celestia and Luna have requested your presence for breakfast this morning. I'm here to escort you to the dining hall." The pony said in an official manner. At this moment Thor's stomach growled, reminding the Asgardian that he had not eaten for a good time since his banishment. "Fortunately for thou I am in need of sustenance. Lead the way mortal!" Thor commanded in an arrogant tone. The unicorn before him didn't take too kindly to the tone the griffon and said, "I'm the Captain of the Guard and I only take orders from the Princesses, not griffons with over inflated egos." Thor glared at the pony and felt his blood beginning to boil. "Hold thy tongue mortal! The God of Thunder shall not be spoken to in such a manner!" Thor all but shouted as he began to flap his wings so that he might look down upon the unicorn. "You're basically a prisoner. I can talk to you anyway I want." The unicorn said, his voice calm yet with an edge to it. "HAVE AT THEE!" Thor yelled as he tackled the unicorn in front of him. "I wonder were Shining Armor is with our guest." Celestia pondered aloud as she ate a spoonful of oatmeal. "Indeed. It is unlike the good Captain to be tardy." Luna said as she sipped some tea. Suddenly the door to the dining room opened and in walked Thor, an unconscious Shining Armor laying on top of him. "My apologies miladies, but thine Captain required a lesson in speaking to royalty." Thor said as he tossed the unicorn off him and took his seat at the table. To say Celestia and Luna were shocked would be an understatement. Shining Armor was Captain of the Guard for a reason, his magical prowess not too far behind his sister's, so the fact he was defeated and that Thor did not have so much as a scratch on him was cause for alarm. However, Celestia was patient and figured Shining probably did insult Thor in someway as the griffon carried himself the way royalty would, so Celestia chose to ignore the incident for now. "SERVANTS! I REQUIRE SUSTENANCE! BRING FORTH THE MEAD AND MUTTON!" Thor bellowed, rivaling the Royal Canterlot Voice in sheer volume. The room filled with an awkward silence shortly after the outburst. "We knoweth what mead is, though we do not have any here at the castle, but pray tell what is mutton?" Luna asked, causing Thor to groan. "Oh yes. I forgot, thou art ponies. Very well, bringest me something large and filling." The Asgardian said dejectedly. The servants brought him a large salad that, while not what he wanted, Thor dug into it heartily. He finished the salad in almost record time before ordering another. After twenty minutes, Thor had eaten 20 salads as Celestia and Luna watched on in shock and partial disgust at how he fast he was able to down the food. "Another!" Thor ordered, as Luna leaned over to her sister and whispered, "Where dost he put it all sister?" After lunch Thor wanted to go to the garden to try and lift Mjolnir again. Celestia and Luna had to attend to royal business, so they had a guard follow Thor to make sure he stayed within the castle grounds. The pony that accompanied Thor was a pegasus, with a golden mane and coat that had a black cloud with a blue lightning bolt for a cutie mark. He also matched Thor's well muscled physique. Thor could tell a warrior when he saw one and said, "I can tell thou art a true warrior. Tell me, what is thine name mortal?" The guard kept walking as he said, "Beta Ray Bill." Thor nodded as they soon reached the crater where Mjolnir still sat. Thor flew down and tried to lift it, but yet again was unable to. Beta Ray Bill was curious now. Once Thor stepped aside, the pegasus flew down and stared at the hammer. "Do not waste thine time mortal. Many of your fellow warriors have attempted to lift Mjolnir and all have failed. If Thor cannot lift Mjolnir, what hope do you have?" The Asgardian said as the pegasus simple followed the griffon after casting one last look at the hammer. "Sister, what are we going to do with that griffon? This delusion of his hath become quite tiresome very quickly. And with Cadence's wedding fast approaching, it may not bode well to have a mad griffon running to and fro through the castle." Luna said as Celestia penned a letter. The Solar Princess looked at her sister from the corner of her eye and replied, "That is precisely why I'm sending for Twilight Sparkle and her friends. If anything they'll at least provide a distraction for Thor and perhaps Twilight can help him get over his grandiose delusions." Celestia then sent the letter off to a certain purple dragon. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 3 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 3 Celestia and Luna waited at the train station for the Elements of Harmony to arrive. "Sister, dost thou truly believe that Twilight Sparkle and her friends may aid us with our dilemma?" Luna asked her sister. "Trust me Luna, if anypony can help it's my student." "So when did your delusions of being a 'god' begin?" A purple unicorn asked as she sat across from a rather large griffon that laid on a couch. "I hath told thine rulers numerous times that this is no delusion! I am a god! An Asgardian Prince!"  Thor insisted, quickly losing his patience with the unicorn. "OH! Twilight I know what we should do!" A pink mare exclaimed as she popped up behind Twilight's chair. "GAH! Pinkie, don't do that!" The unicorn exclaimed, very much irritated at the interruption. "He should sing about it! That way we know if he's telling the truth or not!" Pinkie Pie said, bouncing around giddily. "Sing? Pinkie, I'm conducting a psychological evaluation, not Equestrian Idol." Twilight said in a rather annoyed tone, though this was either lost or ignored by the party pony. At this point, the rest of Twilight's friends entered the room, accompanied by Princess Luna. "What are you guys doing here?! I'm trying to examine a very delusional griffon!" The unicorn practically shouted as she addressed her friends. "Calm down Twi, we just wanted to see what the big deal about this guy is." A certain rainbow colored mare said as she flew over to the griffon. "And we art much intrigued with this 'psychology' thou mentioned Twilight Sparkle. Pray tell, what does it do?" Luna asked. Twilight was about to answer her, when Pinkie Pie interrupted. "Come on Thor, show us what you got!" Pinkie said as she suddenly pulled out a record player from nowhere. Thor was downright confused, though having lived with a trickster god for nearly all of his life was not as shocked as many would be by this display of universal law breaking. "I doth say, it hath ages since I partook in the singing of a ballad. This indeed sounds like it would be most enjoyable!" The Asgardian said as he got up from the couch. "That's the spirit!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed as the music started and a soulful guitar strum was heard. After a minute or two the griffon did indeed begin to sing. "Across the Rainbow Bridge To the place where the old gods live Father sits on throne Near the place where the frost giants roam In the winter time Eating boar with goblets of red wine And I feel at home" Thor sung, causing everyone present to be amazed at not just what a good singer he was but at how heartfelt he did so. "In the old stone halls Where the warriors all stand tall And they share the tales Battles fought, both triumph and failed And the goddess song Both sung in a choir and whisper And I feel at home Two worlds, trapped in between like The moon pulls the tides of the sea Oh I... Asgard, an heir to the throne or an earth god, it's not my choice alone Oh I..." At this point, Luna saw something in Thor. It was a deep longing. A loneliness. A feeling of despair that she was all too familiar with, having felt the same feeling while trapped in the moon with nothing but the Nightmare to keep her company. Luna then walked over to the record player and stopped it, causing all eyes to look to her with confusion. "We believe thou art telling the truth about thine predicament." Luna said as she walked over to the blond griffon. "No one could hath sung such a song with such passion and heart as thou did without having been to the place described. Thou art of Asgard, Thunder God." Luna continued as the Elements of Harmony all stood mouth agape. "Luna are you absolutely sure Thor's claim is true?" The elder Princess asked as she walked with her sister through the castle halls. "We would not have brought it to thine attention Tia if we did not believe it to be so." The Night Princess said, causing Celestia to nod. "I know you wouldn't have. However I will still need to be convinced." The Solar Alicorn said, causing Luna to stop in her tracks. "This is not a matter of not believing you Luna. It's a matter of whether I believe Thor. If he truly is a god of Asgard, then the truth will come out soon enough." "Is everything ready Chrysalis?" A smooth and calm voice said from the shadows. "Of course, but I still need to know how you plan to capture the princess." An insect-like pony replied to the shadowed figure. "Ah, you of all beings should know that a good magician never reveals his secrets."  The figure said, stepping out of the shadows to reveal a green and black griffon. "You had better deliver on your promise griffon. Your plan for invading Equestria is brilliant to say the least, but if I sense even the smallest lie then you will pay dearly." Queen Chrysalis said as the griffon just chuckled. "My dear Queen, I never lie."  The griffon said as he bowed to her, secretly crossing his talons. "I shall believe that when you tell me how you plan to capture the princess." The Queen said haughtily. The griffon glared slightly at her tone, but then chuckled darkly. "My dear queen, your kind are not the only ones who can change their shape." The griffon said as he snapped two talons together and in a yellowish-green flash stood as a well built white unicorn with a dark blue mane and a star-shield cutie mark. "If you believe anything Queen of the Changlings, believe this: Loki never fails."
